  1. High Earth orbit The Lighthouse February 14, 2024 8:30 PM UTC (Greenwich Mean Time) / 3:30 PM Freedom City, New Jersey A request had come to the Freedom League from the Atlantean royal family, asking them to allow rather recent Claremont graduate Heroditus Stylianos the opportunity to examine some of the technology used in the Lighthouse. Given the close connections and long history between the League and the royal family, the request had of course been granted and arrangements made for a tour. While coordinating the tour, Velocity had realized that although Ghost, the most recent member of the team, had joined a couple years earlier, he had not really had the full orientation on operations on the Lighthouse. Deciding to take the opportunity to take care of both things at once, the speedster had arranged for the two to meet her at Freedom Hall so they could teleport up to the space station. "And welcome to the Lighthouse." Velocity said with a smile as she appeared on the Lighthouse's teleportation pad along with Heroditus and Ghost. The yellow clad speedster gave a wave to the technician manning the controls for the teleporter as she stepped off the pad. "We are currently located on deck five, which also houses the infirmary." Glancing back to the other two, she continued, "So, up to you if you want to work our way up to the command center before starting in on the lower levels or start up at the top and just work our way down."
  2. GM Friday, December 17th 7PM Riverside The Benedict Sans Office Tower 25th Floor The Benedict Sans Officer Tower was a newer addition to the Riverside skyline. It towered over its neighbors as an collection of office floors. Importers liked its proximity to the river and as did start up tech firms like to distinguish themselves from their Hanover counterparts. Representatives from numerous technological and import companies, both local and from outside the city, gathered for a pre-holiday party at the offices of Dumass and Prude Imports. The offices occupy most of the 25th floor. Networking and deal-making was done under the veil of festive cheer. Everyone knew the party was a thinly disguised ploy at gaining favor with key companies. Everything was going fine. Champagne flowed, hors d’oeuvres were nibbled, and schmoozing abound through out the large room where the party was being held. Offices lined two walls of the party room, while floor to ceiling widows encompassed the exterior wall, overlooking the courtyard and offering a magnificent view of the river in the distance. Suddenly, gunfire pierces the evening cheer as armed goons dressed in black stand aside from the open doors of the party room. Five men, one a large man with a thick red mustache and bear paws for hands, another scrawny man with large fly-like wings, bug eyes and arms. A bald, heavyset man in wrestling pants and a long grey/black hair man with glowing eyes flanked them. Finally, another man, obviously younger then the others stood to one side, with a drawn out nose and mouth that gave him a shark like resemblance to match the sharp white teeth his grin shows off. The red-haired man steps forward and spoke up. “Listen here ya prissy, walking checkbooks. This here’s a robbery, you’re gonna cough up whatcha got while we rummage through your offices for pretties, or I’ll know why.” “Now see here!” An older man in a expensive suit steps forward from the terrified guests. Mr. Russell Dumass. The co-owner of Dumass and Pride Imports and the man hosting the party. “You would do well to leave before you face trouble.” Mr. Dumass glanced over at large, suited man with an earpiece and nodded. As if on cue the man and several others around the room draw pistols on the intruders. The party crashers laugh as the armed guards aim there weapons at them in return. The black clad goons aimed small assault rifles and the tension in the room thickened until the red-haired man raised a bear paw of a hand and the goons relaxed some. What happened next was swift and vicious. Four of the men moved with purpose while the one with glowing eyes simply watched. The guards quickly fell under the assault of the villains. Some knock unconscious while others were less fortunate. With the shark faced man being the least restrained. The man he took a bite out of bled profusely and this seemed to only drive him into a frenzy. The other villains only watched as the shark man bite the man over and over until in a rage he picked the bloodied guard up like a rag doll and tossed him through one of the floor to ceiling widows to have him land in a blood mess in the building’s courtyard 25 floors below. The speed and ferocity of the attack cowed any further resistance in the crowd as they began to comply with the men and their goons. Satchel carrying goons began to move through the crowd as the villains regrouped. They spoke in hushed tones before splitting up. The bald villain in wrestling pants and boots took several goons and left the party room as the bear-handed man turned his attention to Mr. Dumass. “You.” He commanded. “Your office, now.” The frighten businessman followed the command and lead the villain into his office. The villain closing the door behind him for privacy. The remaining three villains watched the goons moving through the party guests like vultures waiting on their next meal.
  3. GM The Painted Desert, Arizona October 4th, 2020 10:00 AM "Sorry kids, grandpa wasn't kidding about this desert being hell during storms." Blue Squad had been told that they would be going on a field trip to Arizona, to the painted desert, to meet up with a Doctor Macedon for a survival class. Leon might have heard about his friends' trip the year before, and how the aging Doctor Macedon had decided to swear off any and all future field trips after yet another trip to the past through the Magic Mesa, but maybe this time would be different? The whole thing had started out pretty well. Doctor Alexandra Macedon had picked Blue Squad up at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport with an off-road van with enough space for the entire crew, their luggage and Danica's ride. It turned out she was the previous doctor Macedon's granddaughter, and she had been more than happy to take up the task of leading another squad on a survival class. They had reached their dropoff point and then proceeded out into the desert. A few hours later, a sandstorm had started kicking up, slowly growing in strength and intensity. "We gotta find shelter! Anybody see anything?" Doctor Macedon's long brown hair was kicking around her in the wind already, while she fought to keep her stetson secure on her head. Up ahead, the group could see a mountain that just so happened to have a cave.
  4. As both an alumi and fellow educator Mike found himself at the Claremont Academy not infrequently. He had at times advised students before. But this mentorship program was a rare visit not in his mild mannered grade school teacher persona but as Phalanx and while his secret identity was by most reckoning the worst kept secret among heroes he at least attempted to draw a firm line between the two. One he hoped his partner for hte mornings event would abide. Though Geckoman was nowhere to be seen yet, not that running late was entirely out of character, and if truth be told Phalanx had arrived slightly early in his efforts not to be late. He kept a wary ear for the sound of the Pitchoo just in case as he waited cape blowing faintly in the low breeze and head just shy of brushing the rafters of the small pavilion adjacent to the gardens where he was to meet his fellow alumni and any students he might offer some measure of comfort and he hoped wisdom.
  5. Kord Dormitories, Second Floor Claremont Academy, Freedom City, New Jersey Saturday, September 4, 2021 Like the rest of the dormitories at Claremont Academy, the first floor of the Rita Kord Dormitory was a scene of somewhat controlled chaos. Classes were set to start early next week after Labor Day, so the dorms had opened up this weekend for new and returning students to get moved in. Trying -- with some small amount of success -- to control this chaos was one of the floor's Senior residents, whose towering 6 foot 4 inch height made it easy for him to oversee most everything around him. "Two lines, please, one in, one out... no, no, stay to the right side of the ha- no, your right... Ho! Lift with your knees, not your back! Wait there a moment, I'll- oh, yes, sir, that's right down there, next to last on the left..." Try as he might, there was only so much Heroditus could do to control the Surfacers, but he had grown more accustomed to and accepting of their ways in the past few years.
  6. GM TOMORROW! The mighty beast tore through the hallways, running after the young man clad in red, white, blue and gold armor. The mighty Aliengator ran its claws through the wall as the Freedom Eagle blasted at it. He had reached his goal, a swirling circular portal, large enough to bring an army. He held a hand out towards it, and it came to life, a swirling rainbow portal opening. The Freedom Eagle turned just in time to see the massive humanoid alien alligator come running at him, grasping him and pushing him into the portal, leaving the empty hallways behind. The Sky Above the Millenium Mall April 24th, 4PM, 2021 An otherwise nice and quiet day at the Millenium Mall was interrupted. The sky above the mall crackled with rainbow energies and multicolored lightning. A massive circular portal in all the swirling colors of the rainbow opened, releasing two falling figures. The portal closed immediately. The larger, a large humanoid alligator clad in a white armor that left its arms, tail and face free, was grappling the smaller, clad in red, white, blue and gold. The smaller figure managed to kick himself free, spreading out golden wings to stop his fall, while the monster fell to the ground. Seemingly unharmed, aside from parts of its armor starting to break, the creature stood and roared to the sky. Of course, the winged man was not the only hero at the scene!

  8. Port of San Juan San Juan, Puerto Rico, US Wednesday, April 1st, 2020 3PM local time "He has not called me once." Princess Thaelia of Atlantis explained to her former roommate Giang Trang. The conversation had gone as such for the former roommates. Catching up on their lives, the latest subject was her awkward not quite courtship of Elias Silvestri. "I own a cellular device, and yet no distance calling." Thaelia was dressed in ceremonial Atlantean armor, an object wrapped in a large cloth the size of her body tucked underneath her arm. Thaelia, Giang, and Heroditus were in the port of San Juan. One of the busiest ports in the Caribbean. Which on this day had an entire passenger ship dedicated to them. But, the trio would not be actually utilizing the ship. Though the pier was crowded with many dockworkers and potential passengers traversing, no one paid mind to the otherwise empty dock as they approached. Unlike when General Dalekos had dragged Heroditus out of Claremont some months ago, Thaelia didn't set up a meeting with Headmaster Summers. Simply arriving at Claremont and essentially kidnapping the Atlantean scholar. Leaving Giang with the job of apologizing to the Headmaster, who was both already aware of the kidnapping, and subsequently tracking them down. Where Thaelia explained that she needed inquisitive eyes for a task. The Atlantean Senate had unilaterally requested that three abandoned Atlantean outposts be investigated. After reports of salvagers in the area they dare not have Atlantean technology taken by those who may wish to do Atlantis harm. Though at least that was the public stance, never one to mince words Thaelia openly theorized to the others that certain members of the military may also be looking to reoccupy some of those outposts. Their first stop was to be her grandfather's base of operations during surfacers' second World War.
  9. Location Unknown Date and time unknown: Saturday March 7, 2020 at approximately 10:04 AM China Standard Time (CST) The rocky, cold terrain of the hillside had become a blur of color around Danica and Heroditus. Then the pair felt a slight jolt and everything returned to normal. Only, they were no longer in the cold foothills of a massive mountain range at the edge of a desert. Instead, the pair found themselves standing in a brightly lit open area, a hot sun bearing down on them, a fact not helped by the heavy humidity that hung in the air. Looking about, Heroditus could see no trace of the portal that had brought them here. Glancing ahead, Danica saw the edge of what appeared to be a very thick jungle that spread out to either side. But as the pair turned around to take in their surroundings they both were slightly taken aback by what lay behind them. The jungle wrapped around the clearing and to steep side of a rocky spire that towered over several hundred feet into the air, with rugged, jungle covered hills behind it. But perhaps even more surprising was the structure built into the base of the rocky spire. Three sloped sides rouse upward dozens of feet to a flat area, wide stone stairs going up the middle of each side. Atop the flat area was a small, columned building that was clearly built into the side of the cliff that appeared to Danica to be of a Greeco/Roman style. But Heroditus realized the structure was of an Atlantean design….
  10. The Western edge of the Taklamaka Desert, at the foothills of the Pamir Mountains Western China Saturday March 7, 2020. 7:54 AM China Standard Time (CST) (6:54 PM on Friday March 6, 2020 in Freedom City, New Jersey) A cold winter's wind swept over the sands of the Taklamaka Desert, shifting some of the sand as it went. A pair of figures walked up a sand dune in the early morning light, the dark shapes of tents and other temporary structures down in an open space below them. Not far to the west, the snow-capped peaks of the Pamir Mountains rouse up into the sky over the dark foothills which lay between the mountains and the desert. <"Why did they say to come out here?"> One of the two men making their way up the sand dune asked in Pashto. The other man in the lead gave a slight shrug of his shoulders. <"They said a member of the Danger family would be arriving with some assistance to take over the search for Doctor Schneider and Doctor Warren. You have heard some of the stories of the Dangers, likely wants to make some sort of dramatic entrance."> The two men crested the rise of the dune and moved out onto a relatively flat expanse of sand amongst the dunes. <"Hopefully we will not have to wait too long."> Those words proved prophetic, as the pair were just starting to look about for some sign of the arrival of the help from Danger International when there was a bright flash of light and a group of individuals appeared a short distance away. The central figure release the hands of the individuals on either side of her and took a step forward. The two men saw an attractive seventeen year old girl dressed in dark khaki cargo pants and a light brown winter parka. She wore a pair of well-worn hiking boots, and her long brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail. "Good morning, I am Veronica Danger." The teenager said to the two men with a small smile.

  12. Kingston, Freedom City New Jersey Late Fall 2019, 10:30 PM Since the Terminus Invasion of 2018, much of Kingston had consisted of ruined buildings and empty streets. Only the most minimal efforts to start to rebuild had begun, and mainly along the boarder sections with other North Freedom neighborhoods, leaving the majority of the center of the formerly historic neighborhood still largely abandoned and in shambles. Now, those that frequented the Kingston area were those that wished to be unobserved or otherwise isolated from the more crowded and active sections of Freedom City, while still maintaining a close proximity to the rest of the city. A small figure in a trench coat made its way through one of the empty streets in the heart of Kingston, moving among the shadows with a seeming confidence that there was nothing to fear among the dark ruins. The figured walked for several blocks along the cracked and broken sidewalks, stopping a few times to peer around towards the dark recesses of the nearby buildings. Eventually the figure turned into a dark alleyway and was seemingly swallowed by the darkness within. If anyone had been following the figure, it would have seemed they had vanished into thin air in the alley. However, the figure continued on its journey dozens of feet beneath the cluttered streets, moving along a path through the partially flooded sewer tunnels that ran under Kingston. The figure still moved at a steady pace, perfectly at home in the dark, damp confines of the sewers. After passing through several city blocks of tunnels, the figure came to a bend in a tunnel where a section of wall had collapsed, beyond was a larger open area that appeared to be a half buried subway station. Several tables of various shapes and sizes had been set up along one of the platforms and were covered with a variety of scientific equipment. Another section of the platform had been turned into a makeshift living area, with a bed and some other furniture set up. The entire area was partially lit by several emergency lights that had been placed around the platforms. The result of the makeshift lighting was that there were sections of the platforms that where relatively well lit, while the rest of the station was cast in shadows of various depths. The figure moved onto the platform containing the collection of tables, stopping briefly to look at some of the equipment as it went by, before coming to a mostly empty table. The figure sat a large duffle bag onto this table and began carefully removing various objects from within it. As the figure was focused on its task the almost oppressive silence of the chamber was interrupted by a cold voice from somewhere among the shadows. "Good evening Dr. Seidel." The figure quickly turned away from the table, scanning the illuminated section of the platforms, even as he edged towards some of the nearby shadows. "Who are you?" The man asked, his tone a bit surprise but not necessarily concerned or frightened. "Someone who has spent some time trying to locate you." The voice from the shadows simply replied. The trench coat clad figure identified as Dr. Seidel moved into one of the deep shadows near the collection of tables. "You will soon wish you had not done so." Dr. Seidel responded, his voice deepening and straining slightly as he did so. This was followed by a few pained grunts and groans before the shadows went silent. Then, a large figure could faintly be seen climbing among some of the shadows above the platforms lit by the emergency lights. "So, you can now change your shape at will." Stated the cold voice that again seemed to come from multiple directions at once. "All the more reason you will regret coming down here." Replied a deep, partially hissing voice from the large shape crawling along one of the uppers walls of abandoned station. "Perhaps." Replied the cold voice. "But I believe there is a way we may help one another with mutual goals." The large figures stopped, peering out to scan the darkest areas of around station with yellow reptilian eyes. "I suspect there is little you can offer which I will be interested in." It replied in almost a growl. "I believe we may help one another in striking out against the Second Raven." The cold voice replied from the darkness. There was a long pause as the yellow eyes of the large figure peered out at the shadows around the station platforms. "Go on, you have my interest."
  13. Claremont Academy Freedom City, New Jersey Wednesday November 27, 2019, 11:00 AM "I appreciate your willingness to mentor another student Giang." Headmistress Summers stated as she and an Asian young woman walked down the path from the administrative building for Claremont Academy towards the Roberta Isley Gardens. "I believe Heroditus could benefit from being able to talk to someone who had a similar experience as something of the outsider among the other students. Your familiarity with Atlantean culture will be an added benefit." "As always, I am very happy to help Headmistress." Giang Trang replied as she walked alongside the older woman. Giang stood about five foot three, with a lithe build and moved with an easy, fluid grace. Despite the cold of the late November morning, she was not at all dressed for the cold, wearing a pair of jeans, a white T-shirt and a red windbreaker. However, the Asian young woman did not seem bothered at all by the cold. "Although I am curious why you thought of me and not Thetis or Thelia?" Callie Summers gave a small chuckled as she glanced over to Giang. "Well, certainly either has had a similar experience as Heroditus. However, both are also members of the Atlantean royal family, which could make it more difficult for him to fully feel comfortable expressing concerns to them." "I see." Giang replied simply with a small smile and a nod as the two continued toward where Heroditus would be waiting.
  14. December 2019 Dutemps Tower I AM GOING UNDER THE SEA. I WILL BRING YOU A FISH. Aquaria considered what else to say, then added HAVE FUN AT THE ART GALLERY! It was only a day trip out to the art museum with the glass with her other friend, but Jessie had been looking forward to it and that was good. She didn't want to spoil her good time, so she added a note on the refrigerator that said CALL HELP IF I AM NOT BACK SOON. With her job done, Aquaria headed to the closet where she kept her armor. She climbed inside and throbbed with satisfaction as the space-metal closed around her, the warm liquid that emerged from every crevice inside immensely more satisfying than the cold, dry air of their apartment. She and Jessie had special windows that actually opened, something Eve had said was the "superhero" model and because sometimes the claustrophobia in this little dry space was terrifying. With her armor on, she hung her trident over her back and began climbing the sides of the building, up towards the castle. Was anyone home today? She certainly hoped so. December 2019 "Would Heroditus Stylianos please report to the headmaster's office? He is being picked up." The rather odd PA announcement seemed to make Heroditus' art teacher very worried, and right in the middle of watercolors no less. Heroditus had never actually heard that particular phrase said over the intercom before, at least not when it came to him. "Oh dear, oh dear, well, ah, Mr.Stylianos, we'll take care of everything," said Ms. Zinzendorf. She walked him to the door, a sympathetic expression on her face. "Don't worry about a thing."

  16. Artificer Identity: Public, though largely unknown Alternate Identity: Heroditus Fabricus Stylianos Birthplace: Atlantis Legal Status: Atlantean citizen (minor) with no criminal record Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Residence: Claremont Academy Dorms Occupation: High School Student (Sophomore as of 2019/2020) Affiliations: Atlantis, Claremont Academy Family: Xyles (father), Yrdoste (mother), Theodora (twin sister); Baelrath (distant cousin, deceased), Barbara (aunt); Aueivokans, Epatoeuns, Kinoibios, Teptavopos, and Yttapchos (renowned ancestors) Age: 16 (Date of Birth: September 1st, 2003) Gender: Male Species: Human Offshoot (Atlantean) Height: 6 ft 4 in. (1.93m) Weight: 210 lbs. (95kg) Skin: Olive Hair: Black (very dark green) Eyes: Sea Green APPEARANCE Tall, sleek, and reasonably attractive, with a long Aquiline nose, sharp cheekbones, and strong jawline topped by sea green eyes. He keeps his hair -- a shade of green so dark is appears black -- long (sometimes up in a ponytail or man bun, sometimes loose), and is trying to grow in a beard; he is certain it shall be magnificent. His preferred outfit is dark blue short breeches that end just at the knee & a dark green short-sleeved tunic, cinched together by a brown belt and bandolier which are covered in pockets o5 various sizes. He is also often seen with a pair of goggles -- left lens purple, right lens green -- set on his forehead when not in use. He’s still getting used to wearing shoes, but currently favors gladiator-style sandals that lace up to his mid-calf. HISTORY Thousands of years ago, the island continent of Atlantis was home to a civilization of Preserver-enhanced humans, advanced far beyond anything else on Earth. Atlantean “technology” was a strange combination of scientific principles, the alien science and technology of the Preservers, and their understanding and use of magic, including ley-line energies, enchanted crystals, and tapping into various elemental forces. Much was destroyed or lost during the Sinking, as was the knowledge to make and maintain it (hindered by the fact it was all hand-crafted, never mass-produced), but several scraps remained. The Stylianos clan has long worked to recover and restore these lost artifacts, which has given them some sway in Atlantean culture; while none are part of the nobility, many serve as favored artisans or in the military. Heroditus and his twin sister Theodora are the latest in this long line of techno-mages, and received both practical education and formal training in mechano-mysticism since they were eight. Theodora had a surpassing talent for manipulating magical energy, and focused on sorcery and spellcasting -- unusual for the family, though not unheard of -- while Heroditus proved quite adept with the artifacts and devices that made Atlantis (and his family) so great. In an effort to expand his knowledge and skills, Heroditus applied to and was accepted at Claremont Academy. He hopes to learn about surface world technology and magic, to see if those techniques can be used in recreating lost Atlantean artifacts. He might also give the superhero thing a try -- he’s not eager to get into combat, but not averse to it either, and what better way to field test his creations?! PERSONALITY & MOTIVATION Heroditus is proud of his people and his family, and is eager to learn all he can and bring further honor to himself and his house. He misses the family workshops, but will learn to make do at Claremont. He’s strong minded, strong willed, and totally dedicated to his craft. He has some trouble understanding others who aren’t as dedicated to their pursuits, especially if those pursuits don’t involved magic or technology (ideally both). Atlantean society as a whole tends towards being conservative, haughty, proud, and reserved, valuing predictability & stability. It is martial but not violent, valuing peace & friendship and preferring diplomacy to battle, but also believes in the precise application of force when & where appropriate. Given their rigid & reserved natures, Atlanteans also tend towards xenophobia -- particularly against Surface Worlders -- though they regard such dislike & distrust as normal & sensible. As in most cultures, their adolescents often run counter to this. However, the typical rebellious Atlantean teen would still seem calm and cool-headed compared to the typical rebellious Surface Worlder teen. Most of this applies to Heroditus, though he is more open-minded and innovative (some would say iconoclastic) than most of his peers. He is the one who volunteered to go to the surface world and study at Claremont Academy, and he looks forward to seeing Surfacer magic and technology (which most of my peers dismiss), and how it might be integrated with Atlantean devices. POWERS & TACTICS Like most Atlanteans, Heroditus can breathe water, not through gills but because the lining of his lungs was adapted (due to arcanogenetic modifications performed on his ancestors) to allow him to extract oxygen from water and to withstand considerable water pressure. He can also breathe air, although he’s most comfortable in an aquatic environment (and can dehydrate over time if not immersed in water). His eyes are sensitive to light and able to see in dim lighting in the ocean depths, although not in complete darkness. His muscle tissue is denser than human; though he’s built like a swimmer (who sidelines as a blacksmith), he can out-perform most (non-metahuman) weightlifters. Another arcanogenetic modification done to him, thought up by him but designed & performed with the help of his mother, added magic-sensitive photoreceptor cells to his retina. This allows him to see magical energies, which appear to him as auras of various colors. Heroditus is able to generate magical energies, though only roughly; he can generate omnidirectional bursts of magical energies and create mystic shields around himself. He can channel his mystic energies into an assortment of mechano-mystical devices -- effectively acting as a battery for them (or, rather, the Devices provide Alternate Powers for his Magic) -- to generate a variety of effects; he’s always tinkering with them, refining and adding new abilities. His current kit includes a multifunction blaster, a gauntlet that can create, shape, and transmute matter, goggles that enhance his vision and hearing, and a headband that can generate light and holograms. ALLIES His family. His roommate, Benjamin “Rebound” d’Amato. His intramural squad/team (Green Squad): Danica “Chelone” Holmes, Veronica Danger, Monica “Lady Liberty” Gutiérrez, Astrid "Ms. Thursday" Torsten, Benicio “Octoman” Wang, and Micah “Thunderbird” Roebuck. ENEMIES No personal enemies so far, though he has little fondness for Deep Ones. MISCELLANEOUS Behind the Scenes I’d been toying with the idea for some sort of spellcaster. That idea morphed into a technomancer -- somewhat like Marvel’s Forge, in that they’d specialize not in magic spells but in magic items. (I’d thought of giving them ties to Ogoun, loa of metalworking & rum-making, since vodou loa are supposed to be as big in Freedom City as the Asgardians are in Marvel and the Greek deities are in DC, but I could not get that to gel properly.) Flipping through Atlas of Earth Prime showed that Atlantis’ technology is technomagical, so that became my starting point. (I also drew bits from the Champions superhero RPG, as technomagic is also prevalent in both their Atlantis and Lemuria.) The idea of “fish out of water” soon bubbled up, as did “exchange student,” so my technomancer became my second Claremonter. One visual difference I’m going to try to play up between him & my other gadgeteer: while Doktor Archeville’s tech is more art deco (with Kirby Crackles), Artificer’s -- and most Atlantean stuff -- will be more art nouveau. COMPLICATIONS Accident: While Heroditus is quite skilled with Atlantean technowizardry for his age, there’s still a lot he needs to learn. And there’s even more he needs to learn about Surface World technology and magic. So when he tries to test some new bit of mechano-mysticism he’s come up with, or tries combining Atlantean and Surfacer gear, unexpected side-effects can occur. The GM can give him a Hero Point in exchange for declaring that Heroditus’ experiments have created some sort of hazard, which he must drop his current task to deal with. Dehydration: If kept out of water for prolonged periods, Heroditus will weaken, first becoming fatigued, then exhausted, then unconscious. Exposure to intense heat or other desiccating effects can also cause this. Open Space Anxiety: Heroditus grew up in an environment that constantly pressed in on him, and not experiencing that gives him some anxiety. He sleeps in a pressurized water-filled tank, and when out and about wears a compression vest. The GM can give him a Hero Point in exchange for declaring that Heroditus experiences a major anxiety flare up, rendering him helpless and unable to take any actions. Where Are The Crystals?: The technology of the Surface World -- modern electronics, or even simple combustion engines -- are as weird and alien to Heroditus as Atlantean techno-magic is to Surface Worlder engineers. The GM can give him a Hero Point in exchange for declaring that his unfamiliarity with Surfacer technology causes significant setbacks. Heroditus is also invited along! At the outpost, the young Artificer learns of experiments done on changing Deep Ones back into Atlanteans, and finds evidence of atrocities. But not all the atrocities had been committed by the Deep One assailants. (And Carrions Bests) August 28th: Heroditus moves in to Claremont. He meets several students: Leroy aka “Sun Dragon” and Dio, Kameron aka “Red Lynx,” Lulu aka “Crystal Gazer,” and his roommate Benny “Rebound” d’Amato. (It’s Mov(in)g Day!) September: Heroditus meets a few latecomers to Claremont: Mia “Soliton” Mustafic-Markov, Danica “Chelone” Holmes, Judy “Daystar” Smith & Ashley “Watchdog” Smith, and Maxine “Spectre” O’Brian. Something about Heroditus deeply unsettles Danica, though he does not catch on to this. (Late Arrival) A few days later, Heroditus joins Claremont’s tech club (hosted by Valeria Velásquez), along with Benny, Judy & Ashley, Leroy, Mia, Claude “Gnomon” Jergens, Benicio “Octoman” Wang, Micah “Thunderbird” Roebuck, and Nick “Vox” Brown. At the first meeting, he sees Leroy create a block of “programmable matter,” OctoBen gets the idea to connect the block to the internet, and Heroditus helps with that by building a psionic-optical communication bridge. (Tech Compliance) A few days after that, Heroditus is summoned to Dr. Marquez’s office, to be made aware of an incoming guest speaker: Sea Devil, a Deep One! He shares some information about the conflict between Atlants and Lemuria, and agrees to behave himself during Aquaria’s speech. (Fish Out Of Water) He does indeed attend the speech, along with Atlantis’ Prince Telemachus and General Dalekos, Crystal Gazer, Octoman, Red Lynx, Soliton, Adam “Specimen” Lanchester, Sun Dragon, and Vox. The presentation goes… awry. (Dagon the King) October: Artificer, Ms. Thursday, Octoman, and Red Lynx get caught between tech smugglers and Red Lion & his New Freedom mercenaries! (Daka Rush: Claremont) November: Heroditus takes his roommate up on his offer of boxing lessons, and is joined by Claude, Judy & Ashley, and Octo-Ben. (Punching Up) Headmistress Summer introduces Giang “Tsunami” Trang to Heroditus, hoping the two might help each other. (Still as Water) Heroditus and his Claremont Squadmates (Chelone, Veronica Danger, Octoman, and Thunderbird) visit the Hanover Zoo. But Fear-Master and Goanna are there, too! (Reptile Brain) December: Deep Ones have attacked Atlantis! They injured Xyles, and Theodora is nowhere to be found! General Dalekos brings in Heroditus (and he brings in Octoman), while at the same time Aquaria (and Miss Grue and Wraith) investigate the attack. But what both groups find may unnerve all of them -- Theodroa was changed into a Deep One! (Hydra the Queen) 2020 February 9th: Heroditus joins Benny in another sparring session, along with Àjàṣorò "White Lioness" Tafari. (Again) March 7th: Heroditus and the rest of Green squad accompany Veronica Danger to find two lost archaeologists in the Taklamaka Desert, in Western China. (Ancient Enemies) The group is separated, leading Heroditus and Danica on An Unexpected Journey! April 1st: Heroditus is kidnapped enlisted to aid Princess Thaelia (aka Glamazon) and Giang "Tsunami" Trang, taken to San Juan, Puerto Rico and from there to an abandoned Atlantean outpost near the Bermuda Triangle -- one Thaelia's grandfather had used! (Spring Cleaning) April 7th: While studying in the library, Heroditius meets one of Claremont's newest students, Muirne (aka Shadowborne), and her guardian, Dee (aka Synapse). (New to Freedom) April (Late): It's prom time! But Heroditus is not interested in that. He is interested in the alternative event being put on by Professor Gale al-Salaf, though. Benny and Danica are there, as is new student Leon (Paper). But who is al-Salaf's special guest speaker? (Just Like Fire) October 31st: A Lemurian curse turns approximately 1% of Earth's population -- that's about 8,000,000 people -- into werewolves! Davyd & Heroditus are out walking Claremont's Quad when it hits the shapeshifter -- can his Atlantean associate aid him? (Night of the Wolves) 2021 April 24th: While at the Millennium Mall, Heroditus sees an AlienGator and Freedom Eagle ∞, falling through some sort of portal in the air! Fortunately, Muirne (Shadowborne) and Natalia (Nocturne) are also there, and the three Claremonters help protect civilians and subdue the reptilian mensace. And then welcome Freedom Eagle ∞ to their city (?). (Future Freedom, Today!) September 4th: Heroditus helps guide the incoming Claremont students to their rooms, with some success. He also chats with his new roommate, Charlie (Nevermore II), as well as with Bernadette (Multi-Girl), Ryder (Chitin), and Utsawa (Kensei). (Hut Two, Hut Two!) October 4th: Heroditus and the rest of Blue Squad (Chelone, Effigy, Invisigirl, and Paper) attend a "survival class" in Arizona's Painted Desert. So dry, so arid -- he hates it! And that's before they.... (Survival Class: Prussian Blue) October 31st: Heroditus attends A Gathering of Mages at Parkhurst, to discus some recent disturbances they've all been sensing. November 3rd: Artificer, and Freedom Eagle ∞, begin receiving mentorship from two Claremont alumni: Geckoman and Phalanx! (The Kids are Alright) December 17th: While accompanying some classmates (Neko Musume, Luke "Nightscale" Landers, Owain "Kid Gawain" Jones, Leon "Paper" Moore, and Alice "Shooting Star" Armstrong) to a pre-Christmas party in a Riverside warehouse, Artificer & friends stumble across a robbery happening at the Benedict Sans Office Tower. It's up to them to rescue the hostages and stop the bad guys! After they're done, Gawain turns the heroes into birds so they can quickly fly away, which Heroditus hates. (Party Crashing) 2022 June: Graduation from Claremont. 2023 December: Artificer decides to try the "be social" thing an attends the Freedom League Holiday Party. (Holiday Cheer!) 2024 February 14th: While on a tour of the Lighthouse with Ghost, hosted by Velocity, Heroditus bears witness to the (new) Star-Khan's (Kinarr's) attempts at heroism, which is undertaking in order to prove how different he is from his father (Kinan) & to woo Paradigm of the Praetorians! (Written in the Stars)
  17. GM October 10th, 6PM, 2019 Riverside, the docks, the cargo freighter Viper Star At the captain's shout, the previously stunned and frightened crew dove under railings, slid back hatches or simply discarded bulky survival suits to reveal the sleek, glowing and deceptively-primitivist designs of Dakanan technology. The rustic sound of their propellor cut abruptly, replaced with the distinct thrumm of a daka-controlled propulsion system. The formerly-leisurely pace of the Viper Star noticeably jumped, the freighter turning to head for the North Bay. "I'm sorry," Captain Imamba said, thoroughly looking it, "but we can't wait until everyone who needs our help can afford it. And I can't let loyalty to Dakana stand in the way of my duty as a thinking, feeling human being. Crew, attack!" The crystal arcs crackled, red light flashed, and the air filled with the muted roar of sonic pulses hailing down on the small group of students!
  18. OOC thread for this thread. Cruisin' for a high-tech bruisin'. @Tiffany Korta @angrydurf @Dr Archeville @Cubismo @Grumblefloof Everyone gets 1HP to start for beginning in the midst of combat without immediate cover. Captain Imamba and the crew of the Viper Star will use the Soldier stat block from the Core Rules, with the addition of the Teamwork, Improved Aim and Prone Fighting Feats. Their weapons are blasters set to the Stun Alternate Effect. Initiative rolls for the crew: 16. Block of 10 NPCs. After Initiative rolls, the crew will take a surprise round.
  19. Claremont Academy 10:30 am, August 28th, 2019 Weather: Sunny, 77 F, Wind E 15-20 mph The visitor's parking lot was packed. A sea of people bustled amidst vehicles and toward open, shining gates. Belongings, often with grunts of effort, were loaded onto carts. Laughter echoed from caravans trickling through the main entrance and the Quad. Hand-drawn signs pointed the way, each adorned with student messages. In time, the shadows of the twin dormitories provided respite to travelers. Staff and peer counselors dotted the trail, assisting overwhelmed students on their journey. Vice-Principal Dugan was the first new face to arrivals. Her table near the gates kicked off the journey. Mr. Marquez wheeled the circuit and kept visitors on course. Mr Kuzkin and Ms. Harcourt paced about the Kord and Carter dorms, respectively. Their task, to organize the move-in, appeared to have some success. At the very least, weary travelers could partake of cold refreshments and treats outside the main doors. While outside was organized chaos, the dorm halls were like herding cats. A din permeated the air. Dozens of students, parents, and guardians wandered in search of rooms. Boxes and bags transformed the hallways into obstacle courses. The excitement of new memories and old friends contrasted with worried hugs and goodbyes. If nothing else, the dorms were places of beginnings and endings. What are you doing this beautiful day? Moving into the dorm? Helping new students?
  20. Fall 2019 Heroditus knew intellectually what school counselors were - healers who looked after the mind rather than the body. Atlantis certainly had its own share of such people. But being summoned to meet personally with Dr. Marquez, the school's wheelchair-bound counselor, had come as a surprise. So here he was, waiting outside the counselor's office, wondering what had brought him here - but he didn't have long to wait. Pushing himself down the corridor came the doctor, a smile on his face for the student. "Ah, hello, Mr. Stylanios!" He pressed a button on his chair and the office door opened. "Apologies for keeping you waiting. Shall we talk?"
  21. Down below The argument from below awoke Heroditus, his parents' voices echoing up from the atrium of their house to his second-floor bedroom window. "No, he's too young! You shouldn't take him to a scene of such...carnage!" "He is my right hand, and he needs to know the nature of our foes! Especially with him about to go Above!" The third voice wasn't immediately familiar, and spoke more quietly than either. "Whether you bring the boy or not, we need to go quickly before the spoor is lost. I trust you, Stylianos, and if you trust your son's discretion, that's all the word I need." Peering out his window, Heroditus could make out quite the crowd down below. His mother, his father, and a figure in a general's armor he thought he recognized were standing in the courtyard around the back of a high-speed watercraft that looked to be of military make. The general was accompanied by several soldiers, all of whom were still inside the craft proper. There was enough room for more inside.

He keeps his hair -- a shade of green so dark is appears black -- long, and is trying to grow in a beard; he is certain it shall be magnificent. He might also give the superhero thing a try -- e’s not eager to get into combat, but not averse to it either, and what better way to field test his creations?! Heroditus is able to generate magical energies, though only roughly; he can generate omnidirectional bursts of magical energies and create mystic shields around himself. He can also see magical energies, thanks to arcanogenetic modifications he received that added magic-sensitive photoreceptor cells to his retina. He can channel his mystic energies into an assortment of mechano-mystical devices -- effectively acting as a battery for them (or, rather, the Devices provide Alternate Powers for his Magic) -- to generate a variety of effects; he’s always tinkering with them, refining and adding new abilities. His current kit includes a gauntlet that can channel and refine his mystical energies for a variety of effects (directed blasts, blinding lights, complex illusions, telekinesis, and transmutation), and goggles that enhance his vision and hearing. Atlantean technology, based on a mix of alien technology & magic and having been adapted to work in icy salt water, is vastly different from surface world technology. It does not rely upon electronics or electricity (virtually useless underwater unless completely sealed), nor upon combustion or the combination of volatile chemicals (also problematic underwater), but instead is powered by magical crystals drawing upon various elemental energies, recharged in orichalcum-lined sockets linked to ley-lines or by the wielder’s own innate mystical energies. Many Atlantean devices look similar to surface world tech -- an Atlantean blaster looks not that dissimilar to one made by the Foundry -- but a surface world engineer taking it apart and looking inside would be completely baffled at how it works. (Attempts to deal with them would require the researcher to roll the lower of Knowledge/Arcane Lore or Knowledge/Technology.) COMPLICATIONS Accident: While Heroditus is quite skilled with Atlantean technowizardry for his age, there’s still a lot he needs to learn. ----- Power Level: 9 (149/151PP) Unspent Power Points: 2 Trade-Offs: -2 Attack/+2 Effect w/ Blast, +2 Attack/-2 Effect w/ Move Object; -1 Defense/+1 Toughness ABILITIES: [4 + 2 + 4 + 10 + 6 + 2 = 28PP] Strength: 14 (+2); effective Lifting STR 24 Dexterity: 12 (+1) Constitution: 14 (+2) Intelligence: 20 (+5) Wisdom: 16 (+3) Charisma: 12 (+1) COMBAT: [12 + 8 = 20PP] Initiative: +1 Attack: +6 Melee, +8 Ranged, +12 w/ Move Object Grapple: +8, +20 w/ Move Object Defense: +8 (+4 Base, +2 Dodge Focus, +2 Shield), +2 Flat-Footed Knockback: -6, -3 w/out Force Field DC BLOCK ATTACK RANGE SAVE EFFECT Unarmed Touch DC 17 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Physical) Bolts of Magic Ranged (1,200 ft. max) DC 27 Toughness (Staged) Damage (Any Magic) Burst of Magic 15-50 ft.
