  1. "I will not," Leroy admitted, looking longingly at the snack table, "I do not eat or drink, yet I am grateful for the offer. Please, extend my thanks to our glorious hostess. This is beyond what we can repay." Bowing politely to Bluebird, the tall boy in the white robes wandered over to the pool. His hair had been piled up on his head, a thin circlet embedded in it dangling a fine-mesh white veil in front of his pensive face. As ever, he outright sparkled in the light, this time from a fine golden dust on his dark skin. His robe, soft cotton, was white as snow to a casual glance, but a closer look revealed shifting greys and glints of light, revealing that it projected the view of the clouds of some other world. His sandals were plain brown leather, without an inch of heel. "Hullo." he muttered softly to Verglass, sitting gingerly apart from where Benicio had splashed. Almost immediately he lapsed into silence, watching gloomily as his green dragon floated belly-up, hissing with pleasure as his tail propelled him like a scaled torpedo across the lengths.

His skin is otherwise smooth and flawless, the only other markings are golden tattoos of fire and dragons festooning his body. His hair is long and bejewled, hanging to his back in thick curls and rope-like braids meshed in precious metals or glittering with precious stones. He's unguarded and animated in movement and expression with a smile for everyone, a helping hand at the ready and sparkling eyes. Even in battle he's anything but solemn, laughing or cursing roundly, throwing everything into every action. He's possessed of seemingly limitless energy and passion. His voice has a strong Nigerian accent, particular to the coastal delta region, but with a pronunciation that to Atlanteans is instantly familiar. His clothing matches his personality, brilliant colors in fantastical arrangements, with tunics, robes and trousers cut and styled in fractals of every conceivable color, the most common being blue, red and yellow. He usually goes barefoot, and when not wears sandals strapped at the knees. He rarely, if ever, gives any consideration for the weather. On campus he wears the Claremont school uniform, though modified to resemble the private school's original three-piece suit in rich blue and dazzling gold. As Parhelion, he uses his powers to shape a suit of crystalline black armor made from 'black diamond', actually a sheathe of extremely high-density ambient light and radiation energy. History: Leroy was born the third son and 13th child to the ruler of Earth-2, a dimension incorporating many Earths into one massive civilization. As a child he wandered the wild and monster-haunted worlds without fear, guarded by three of his mother's oldest friends. From the Rings of Refuge where the greatest of monsters can learn to be kind again, to the subterranean empires of the dragons, he went on countless adventures, making friends seemingly everywhere he went. His future seemed bright and certain. However, it soon became clear that he was not on the path to the One Power, the power underpinning the cosmos, the power that, as child of the leader to untold billions, he must have to be worthy of any status. When his efforts proved so feeble he needed a Phoros, one of the living stars, planted into his heart to grant him any powers at all, his fate was sealed. His friends were commanded to forget him, and he was restricted to New Atlantis so as not to become a liability. His mother's mind changed, however, when she heard about Claremont Academy, the crucible on her homeworld of Earth-Prime where new heroes were forged. Shortly after his 16th birthday Leroy and his dragon, the acolyte he had named Dio, departed for another world. Taught that his mother's homeworld languished under shadow and evil, Leroy wasn't expecting to find friends, a new faith and even true love there, but now that he has he needs to start answering some hard questions. Time isn't standing still, and his dreams won't happen on their own. He's no longer the Sun Dragon, now he is the reflection and herald of a greater brilliance. The Sun Dog, the Parhelion. Personality & Motivation: Leroy is passionate about everything he does, rarely solemn or even really calm unless there's something seriously wrong with him. He wants to love everybody, thinking that the only way for others to accept him is if he accepts everyone else unconditionally, but is slowly coming to understand that sometimes you just can't get along with someone else and making allowances for someone into infinity does nobody any good. This comes close on a deeper realization that he's not the sort of person his culture wants him to be on almost any level, from his fervent new faith to his total unsuitability or interest as a warrior. He doesn't want to kill or conquer, but that's the very foundation of his civilization. His relationship with Judy Cahill has especially changed his attitude. The women in his life had all been both physically and spiritually imposing, powerful beyond reckoning and singularly-devoted to their path to the One Power. That someone can be so opposite to that and still be strong internally, still determined to protect the weak and do good in the universe, has awakened Leroy to ideas he still doesn't understand. He's not yet matured, however, merely changing the absolute centre of his universe from his mother to the unbelievably idealized version of Judy he firmly believes is her true self. Powers & Tactics: Parhelion charges into the fray, using the appearance of careless bravado to conceal a ruthless eye for denying his enemies their advantages and giving his allies a winning edge. He prefers to fight in tandem with Dio, the pair working to keep their foes off their feet and under constant fire. His command of gravity gives Sun Dragon potentially limitless options for one-on-one and larger fights, but his progress in unlocking his full power is slow, and he runs a frequent risk of over-extending himself. Power Descriptions: Parhelion's powers manifest in two ways: as a massive shift in local gravity, visibly distorting the air around him and any affected by his powers, or else in flashes of searing light. The former is most obvious when he lends others his power of self-propelled flight, with air and particles of matter caught between his gravitational pull and that of the planet. His power over gravity has extended to the creation of the superficially crystalline 'black diamonds', actually hyper-condensed forms of energy that act as solid interfaces between dimensions, allowing the transmission, storage and spontaneous creation of nearly any other form of energy. This naturally includes solid, liquid and gas phases of matter. As well, Sun Dragon's internal biology has been extensively altered, granting him enormous strength, ability to survive in hostile environments and durability. Complications: Anger: Leroy was brought up never to ignore injustice or wrongdoing, beyond reason or compromise. Bound: Parhelion would never willingly abandon his dragon Dio for any reason. Darkness: Leroy is paralyzed with fear in the dark, and struggles to enter places with dim or no light. Difficult Birth: The Phoros spark placed within his body is steadily, if slowly, growing. Random power fluctuations, crippling pain or abrupt ejection into space are some of the milder side-effects. Enemies: Though he's largely unaware of it, New Atlantis is based on the violent conquest of other worlds, and Parhelion is a much softer target than most of his family. Fully-Articulated: Under the shadow of greater power all his life, Leroy cows all too easily to his perception of proper authority. Lives With His Dad: Sun Dragon lives with his dad, anti-prison activist and musical instructor Lavernius Conte, on weekends and holidays. Mission: Parhelion is here both to find people interested in leaving Earth-Prime for Earth-2, and to free his uncle from prison. Almost all he does is bent around those two goals, and setbacks are exceptionally hard. Relationship(Judy Cahill/Daystar) As boyfriend of a member of the First Family of the United States, Leroy must work carefully to keep her secret safe from the myriad of enemies who would be all too happy to know about it. Responsibility(Family): Living up to his parents' expectations is of paramount importance to Leroy. Failure is devastating and not to be accepted. Responsibility(Powers): Parhelion power over gravity has potential for enormous destruction if used incorrectly, something he's been sheltered from. Temptation(Power): Anything that seems like it will make Leroy more like how he's "supposed" to be, in powers and in physical strength, is nearly irresistible. 4. B'Ka was up bright and early as dusk gathered, sitting outside and watching the pale sun work its way below the horizon of jagged, raw stone. He was naked, and smelled of Dirge's and his own dried sweat. For the first time since his arrival in the system, the Hapisian looked calm, resolute, with none of the jittery energy that had characterized him thus far. When the rest were ready, he fell in silently with them, the brassy, hornéd helmet closing over his solemn face as he took a last look at the shrinking sliver of cold light vanishing...leaving in its wake a brilliant mass of glittering stars. To a Terran, they would have looked frozen, immobile points of light. But to a more experienced eye they had some of the waver and glimmer that made them look so alive, so full of hope and mystery. "They're beautiful," Squire B'Ka said, muffled and distorted through the armor's translator, "I hope we get to visit some of those someday, 'lana."

    Again.

"Our friend Hero is very enduring, yes! Sometimes I envy you...well, I envy everyone, at some point or another, but you most frequently! What is natural and obvious to me is cumbersome and oppressive to you. Breathing itself is mostly an affectation by now, a way to feel less distanced from the world around me. To have it so meaningfully impact your life, where you go and what you do, seems so wonderful." Leroy smiled admiringly. Swiveling around in place to have a better view of the spar, he inclined his head again to Àjàsoró. "I fall most splendidly." he said, apropos of nothing.
  6. "Dio is dreaming of other dragons. Ones with progressively smaller neck-frills. I could not tell you why, he refuses to explain." Shrugging the weight of his compaion onto the table, Leroy frowned at the middle distance. He'd been oddly quiet since Amara's reply to his question. "Good Davyd," he said softly, "could you be in two pieces, and alive and conscious in both?" Drumming long, slender fingers on the table, the Dragon Prince stroked his chin, visibly mulling something over. He started, and turned shamefacedly to the shapeshifter "I beg your pardon! That was quite unintentional! And yes, that would be splendid!" He smiled hopefully up at their reptilian host "There are unconfirmed reports of thinking life that do not resemble us, have you encountered them?"
  7. "Regrettably true, Night," Leroy sighed, looking at the un-marred circle still in the dirt, "a host must know when to shut the door." A look passed between Leroy and Dio, neither saying anything aloud but some idea clearly crossing both their minds as Leroy's face suddenly brightened. Kneeling, he pressed his palms to the circle, watching the grooves and sigils fill with black crystal. The wreath complete, he hefted it, smoothed the inside with a delicate finger-brush and set it like a crown on his head. "There we are!" he beamed, "Now lady Storm can find us wheresoever we go! This way, comrades!" With that the boy launched up a staircase, following a path that looked like it was made of fangs, claws and swordblades. "I have not gone on adventures in years, good Davyd," he explained on the way, each geometry-defying obstacle in the Dimension of Doors approached with the same childlike glee, "but no-one is barred from going anywhere or doing anything, so long as nobody gets hurt! We might visit the Shapeless, and dance with them for a glimpse of our futures! Perhaps we shall visit the Sun city and swim in seas of fire! There is a cross-worlds market where people pay in songs, Night, and Mustafic-Markov may enjoy the Spire-Rocket Challenge, where the energy-conversion of your massive creations must propel you into space! And the planets! So full of magical creatures, unpolluted splendour, untold secrets! Race on horseback through hurricanes, tweak the tails of a stonetiger, dig for buried treasure, tickle the whalesquids, dine with ghosts...!" Far from running out of breath, Leroy had begun to run out of room to say everything he wanted at once, and for a time just ran laughing through tangles of cold iron and dull red bone. "And that," he added giddily, "was just what they took me to before I was ten!" "Here we are!" he slid to a halt before the door. It was about 80ft high and 70ft across, black as jet, or obsidian, carven all over with something too worn and faded to make out. The handle was a broken sword-hilt. "Dio, if you would?" "On it." Flapping to a stop atop the doorframe, having avoided the maze entirely, the green dragon traced one claw along the patterns, chanting something low and cold. As he spoke the door softly unlatched and swung open, creaking on one half-broken hinge. On the other side was another world. Rugged, hilly, full of peaceful herds. A great city of white stone rose in every direction as broken tumbles, gaily-painted. Down the steps glimmered a peaceful blue sea in a broken stone basin, with ships sailing upon it and beaches of golden sand. Black pillars soared from the ground into the sky. Visible in the sky was the Moon, and its eternal companion, the Earth. An Earth raw and new, volcanos visible in the seas that broke up continents of yellowed or iridescent green. In the seas shadows moved, vast and ponderous. Like a halo, a shining metal ring girdled the planet, electric lights blazing along the inward edge. Between that and the visitors was a fantastical city-scape. Canyons of skyscrapers through which dragons soared, arcane shimmering portals attached to conductive wires, flying vehicles like retrofuturistic cars, drovers of cattle herds that stood tall as redwoods, a neon cacophony clustered around five titanic, coloured domes. After a moment's adjustment, the Earth-Prime natives realized that they were at the approximate centre of a hollow, semi-transparent sphere. The city ran on both sides of the shell, curving off until its lights were indeterminable from the glitter of stars. In the distance were other seas, grasslands, mountains, what could only be described as a 'mega-circus' and, rising like a black spike, a tower of utter and total darkness. Dio had swung through the open doorway and buried himself in the dirt in an instant, rolling and snuffling with pure joy. "Oh, it is so good to be home. Welcome, my comrades, to Earth-2. To the future of all our people." Leroy sighed, grinning from ear to ear as he stepped over the threshold. "Do not worry about the guards," he added, waving to seemingly empty air, "they will depart if you ask. First things first, a swim! Night, do you enjoy swimming? I am afraid it is rather warmer here than your home!"

  10. Going to stick with Emerald City as that is My Post. I'd like to request its secret rule by supervillains be made explicit. Given the low traffic(my fault) it's not much use to conceal. MarsTech, in indication that Mars' envy treads on the heels of Archetech, is one word. A mention in the top blurb about Cryptids & effective corporate rule would be appreciated, given their differentiation quality that makes EC a little more than 'FC but West Coast and boring'.
  11. "If I may say so, Night, you would know he was lying" Leroy said, zipping shut his backpack and transmitting it into a chunk of black diamond. "The authentic, unfettered self is what my people value. It is the path to true power, as you shall see, and those who contain or curtail it are unwelcome." "If you require them, Mustafic-Markov, there are 'feminine products' in the backpack. These things were not made mysterious to me and I thought it better to be excessively prepared." "He didn't even need any prompting, just walked up to the counter and said "Good woman, are these the most absorbent you have?"" Dio added helpfully, nailing the Dragon Prince's earnest aristocratic diction. Leroy reddened "It was an entirely relevant question! She had no call to laugh and make such sport of me!" The dragon nodded "At least the heating pad and water pills were at a different store, away from any 16-year old cashiers with cruel hearts and acid tongues."
  12. "Davyd!" Turning gratefully to the squad's facedancer, Leroy clasped his hand warmly between his own, his phone flicking on in his other and wincing at the missed messages. "I am so sorry! The Dog Hour seemed right to me also, yet Dio warned against it most sternly!" "A pact with magical beings isn't going to be simple." Dio lashed the Threshold with his tail, his bone-ridge teeth-plates gleaming between thin, curled lips. With his claws, he swiped through three of the circles connecting to the larger, central circle. "Dio is sorry as well!" Leroy said brightly "And you look ready for the beach, Davyd! A favoured haunt of the 'dancers when they descend from the Rings." His face clouded "Ah...your family knows you are on a trip with us? Mustafic-Markov may need to contact hers later."
  13. @Nick I'm so sorry Nick! I forgot Arcana was on Orange Squad instead of Green!
  14. Mia found Leroy turned very angrily away from Eira, furiously knitting a round, white woolen hat while muttering under his breath "Whining? Pah! Like I were some glassgarden rose, quivering before a summer breeze!" Starting at the voice of Orange Squad's leader, he turned smartly about, tossing his handicraft into his backpack as he flung his right fist over his heart. "Mustafic-Markov! I-well, our squad lacks cohesion, and you did not outright say no, so I did as I thought best for us. This will give us a chance to work together and give you a perfect opportunity for leadership!" At the question about Earth-2's nature, he frowned "It was kind to me. To many billions of sapients and trillions of sentients. Our civilization is horrible only to tyrants and the wicked, Mustafic-Markov, nobody is hungry, nobody fears for their life, everyone does and thinks as they wish. No woman is chattel , no man a slave. There is no trade-off. No sinister catch. Oppressors fear everywhere that their vicitims will rise up, with blood and...and fire." He shuddered at something. "It is like the Delaztri of Paradigm," he concluded, "only for those of the many Earths. Earths that are wild and wondrous, where by ancient pact the weakest may walk without fear, and the strongest find an equal challenge!" His smile was a little shaken, but it returned in earnest. "It is a good place." Leroy paused to scan the surrounding Threshold. "The rest of our team should be here soon."
  15. Ari

    Again.

"A victory can be over many things, good Ben." Leroy imitated the other boy's movements, his long, lithe arms and legs compressing into bars of black iron. "As the law of blades tells us, worth comes from overcoming threats to existence. That is as much our preferred emotional and mental states as they are our physical. Though fewer blows are struck, the slaves of this and other lands live in constant defeat, and those who rule them in freedom are the victors in a struggle they keep hidden from the vanquished." Still smiling, Leroy paused to pin up and secure his hair, the swathes of black curls compressing into a hard knot at the back of his head. That done, he looked expectantly at Àjàsoró.
  16. Springing to his feet, Leroy leapt across the distance and just barely stopped himself from trying to hug Eira. Laughing giddily, arms sweeping to the misty skies, he shouted "It worked! Oh, hurrah!" He spun on his heel to stick his tongue out at Dio, the dragon rolling his eyes and unfolding a forked tongue almost as long as Leroy. Laughing again, scars thin as white spidersilk against his skin, he turned back to the first arrival. "So splendid you could come, Night! And such attire! Such vivid plumage! The Sandparch and the Seethe wish they could be you! As do I, alas," the silver ring glinted on his hand as he flourished it down his crisp white robe with a sigh, "bleached and smothering must do for me. It would not do to draw eyes so far from my pledged." Tugging at a loose strand of hair he frowned "It will be a shame to be shorn again. Dee wears her hair long, I thought it made a nice complement." Discarding both strands with a shrug, Leroy glanced around the Threshold and the staricases spiralling in every direction, including many that didn't make any sense at all. Some seemed to collide, but still arrive at different doorways. Some doors floated in space until you located a seemingly pointless stairway that lined up with them. It made an intuitive sense, you could quite literally feel your way through by the patterns of tiles, the grain of wood, the arc of crystal and the compression lines of otherworldly stone. Even the doors seemed to draw or repel you, based on where you wanted to go. Logically, however, it was all but unfathomable to someone without a mystic's knack. As well, it was in constant motion. Stairways relocated, doors vanished or reappeared, and the whole apparatus spun in several directions around the central circular plot of dirt and stubby grass. "While Dio was preparing the spell, I found our door. It should swing right 'round soon enough, sparing us a tedious navigation of the 'ways. What are you going to do when we get there first, Night? I am going to visit some old friends! Do you like horses? I know a herd would be happy to have us!" "They're intelligent," Dio supplied, "and their boss, Striker, likes upsiders well enough. Not afraid of anything, either, picked a few fights with dragons and lived to tell about it."
  17. To be fair, Thevshi, superhero fiction does depend on bewildering large blind spots or tolerances of the protagonists for blatant evils, with their antagonists often operating right under their noses for lengths of time that border on the absurd. But in light of your crit earlier, have hit on it just being composed of modified versions of the three leaders written above.
  18. OOC thread for this thread. Orange Squad goes to Earth-2 for spring break! Thrills, chills, blood-spills abound in a comedy classic! @Dr Archeville @Heritage @Shofet @Avenger Assembled
  19. April 13th, 2020, 9AM at all points in the Omniverse, the start of Spring Break, Eternity Threshold of Primes, The Dimension of Doors, Infinity "I'm multiple liquid tons of 'dragon's blood', Prince. You're what, a gallon? Gallon and a half? This is stupid as hell." Above his charge, the green dragon lounged on a step, looking up at the boy with no little frustration. In the geometry-defying space Leroy Ransom-Conte, Dragon Prince of Earth-2, looked even more excessively dramatic than usual, a robe of pure white billowing from his shoulders, his feet unshod and his hair swirling in the shrill wind between worlds. In one hand was a knife of black diamond, in his other was a bundle of nerves very clearly trying to escape down his sleeves. Sweat trickled down his face as the blade approached his thumb. Beneath his shifting toes was a meticulous circle graven with Atlantean runes, with five circles intersecting at points any magician would understand at a glance, but to Leroy had been as alien as the experience of towering over most schoolmates. "My blood is unspilt for their sake, Dio." He swallowed, focusing on the descending arc of the smiling, smiling little dagger. "I am a coward." The dragon snorted, looking deeply unhappy "I don't think so, but...okay. Give a shout if you want something for the-" The knife brushed his skin, and like water dissolving salt it tore through. "-pain." Dio finished with a sigh, hopping off the step to pat Leroy on the back as the boy's face worked fantastically, the six scars on his cheeks stretching and growing ragged. Hurriedly, as the black blood beaded and smoked, Leroy walked to each circle and marked the names they enclosed with a smear. That done, he fumbled in a backpack, withdrawing a first aid kit and sitting down to disinfect and close the clumsy tear in his royal skin. "I thank you, Almighty," he muttered, tearing a band-aid out of its box, nose wrinkled at the sting of alcohol, "for Judy Smith, and her unerring foresight." "Now what?" Dio demanded, reclining once again, his pointed tail swinging over the edge of the abyss that gaped between the staircases wheeling and rambling in every direction. "They'll come here when they next walk through a door, but this dumb plan only works if they're all on board for visiting an Earth whose only advertisers are you and me. And one of us doesn't exactly make it sound amazing." he added with a look as pointed as his fifth limb. "I asked if they would like to visit a magical world, meet wonders and have an adventure. They all said 'yes'. This is the agreed-upon time. They know to open a door now will transport them." Leroy completed the application of the bandage with a gentle kiss, as Judy had always done, though he remained uncertain why. Despite the obvious lingering pain, his golden eyes shone. "I have erred many times, my dragon. But this time, nothing can possibly go wrong!"
  20. Since the attempted Grue invasion in the 1950's, and indeed for longer than proposed human history, extraterrestrial life has come to Earth to hide, to escape, to begin anew. Some become quiet, anonymous members of human or pre-human civilization, some rise to become brave heroes or dire villains, and yet others choose to exploit their unique set of circumstances for profit. Of this last is the Black Hole Gang, a band of exiles, fugitives and wanderers who combined their talents, resources and knowledge to become the Sol system's most powerful interstellar crime syndicate. Earth is home to many rare materials, unique wonders and kinds of life unknown in the wider galaxy. It is also poor, unadvanced by stellar civilization standards and largely ignorant of the world outside the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, let alone of the galaxy beyond Sol's orbit. The 'Terrans' know that alien life exists, some of it is hostile, and it comes from somewhere science has yet to determine. Sometimes the Atom Family or Freedom League return with some snippet of information about extrasolar life, but for the most part you can tell the average Terran anything and they'll probably believe it. That's the gravy train the Black Hole Gang runs on, and they are in no mood to lose their spot to the bigger dogs outside the Developmental Quarantine Zone, in which Terrans remain so helpfully unaware and outsiders are given the boot before they divulge too much. Starting in 1979, when the three leaders of the Gang arrived on the Pacific coast fleeing their various problems, they were amazed to stumble upon an entire hidden population of non-humans and even non-Terrans living in and around Emerald City. Learning from them of the mysterious Chamber that had gathered so much wealth and power into the city, using it as a base and laboratory for secret, total domination, the trio sought out the human crime collective and offered their unique skills and contacts in return for a share of the profits and certain escape from Earth if things ever got too bad. Nobody has ever justly accused the Big Brain of being closed-minded or prejudiced, and he accepted their offer. Even agreeing not to ever read their minds without their express permission. Since then, the Black Hole Gang has made a killing smuggling living things, technology and raw materials to and from Earth. After the opening of the extra-Plutonian wormhole, their business has boomed and their importance has steadily increased on both sides of the stellar divide. There are times, even, when they think of the Earth as home. Though for them, home has always and only meant a safe place to hide. Leadership: The original three who started the Gang remain its leaders, titled 'Star's. In order of age: Khorr'Tang, Star of Execution & Acquisition Oversight. When someone needs to be eliminated, or something valuable must be taken, this orange-hued Lor career-diplomat has both the savvy and ruthlessness to get the job done quickly and quietly. A secret devotee of the Katanarchist cult, she's shown tremendous aptitude for personal combat, stealth and mysticism alongside her hard-won people skills and knack for the perfect heist. She sees the Quarantine Zone and neighbouring stars as her future personal fiefdom, has spent considerable resources on building bases through the sector and will stop at nothing to protect her 'investment'. Of the Stars she thinks about, and thus hates, Terrans the least. Gowlim-D, Star of Personnel & Resource Management. The handling of currency, recruitment and care of employees and ensuring everything keeps moving is placed in the hands of this ice-blue Zultasian. Managing the Star Khan's treasures and ensuring every conquered world payed its tribute in full and on time makes coordinating an interstellar gang almost child's play. Heavily-augmented with cybernetics, she can transmit and receive information across the Orion Arm and stores most of the data involving the Black Hole Gang in caches scattered throughout the local sector. From observation posts and the sensors of craft across the void of space, she pulls the strings and leads the dance. As a former Khanate noble she loathes all non-Zultasians as her inferiors. Toyota Corolla, Star of Negotiations & Asset Development. The Gang is in constant need of new contacts, technology and field information. In the hulking and solid rogue Grue, they have a master of the underworld arts who fulfils these roles with ease. Formerly the nameless chief scientist for the Meta-Mind, Corolla now adopts any identity they wish from across a dizzying repository of stolen memories. They make the deals, form the alliances, design the latest bio-tech gadgets and keep Terran and galactic law-enforcement off the scent. It's a never-ending workload, but Corolla remains up to the task. After centuries devoted to one thing at a time, the explosion of possibilities is intoxicating. As the Star who deals with people the most, they individually hate all Terrans. Membership: The galaxy is full of desperate people, and even before the Incursion War there was widespread corruption and crime across the fringes of the Lor Republic and unrest across the Stellar Khanate. The Grue Unity, similarly, relying on unbroken psychic links to maintain order, has regularly lost control of Grue at the edge of its influence, ironically the cause of several invasions blamed on the Meta-Mind. As a result of this, displacement by the Communion and the arrival of the many refugee species from the neighbouring arm, the Black Hole Gang has a reliable stable of tens of billions of beings across known space. Their lowest number is by far human and Cryptid agents on Earth. However, most of these star warriors are common criminals. Little different from the average Terran driven to crime by circumstance or inclination, they provide in quantity and ubiquity what they lack in firepower and technical skill. The research assistant siphoning funds and data to pay for an expensive habit, the indebeted merchant captain reluctantly adding a little extra cargo, the soldier looking to make an accuser disappear. The Black Hole Gang's reach is only into the lowest levels of galactic society, but their grasp is unerring and unyielding. Most membera use the Criminal stat block, with non-human members adding their species characteristics. Equipment rare on Earth, such as blasters and spacecraft, are in common use by them. Methodology: Like their name(chosen purely because it was a common idea), the Black Hole Gang works to bend everything toward itself, unseen yet irresistible. Usually the Gang works in disguise as another organization, from governments to other criminals to even masquerading as Praetorians or Star Knights or superheroes. As well, despite their vast reach and resources, they take care to never work in bulk, or amounts that are difficult to move and hide. One cloning tank, one psychic mutant, one piece of magical art, the Black Hole Gang never gets greedy and takes pains to never over-extend its narrowly-limited power. That aside they will do anything, absolutely anything, for money and control. Resources: The Black Hole Gang has ready access to 9 private space craft on Earth, 507 in the Orion Arm, and approximately 1000 in extreme emergencies. None of these are warships, nor are any heavily-armed or armored. They are mostly small shuttlecraft and freighters. Their personnel is, as stated previously, in the tens of billions. A miniscule number on the galactic scale, but making up a varied and effective workforce that can go almost anywhere the Gang needs them to. Thanks to the Gang, many have biotech or cybernetic modifications that grant them any number of additional advantages, from minor shapeshifting, to invisibility, to direct interfacing with technology to bluffing psychic scans. As well, as Chamber members, they have access to the ferocious and powerful Brande Management supers culled from supervillain families. Some of whom are among the most-traveled humans in the galaxy. Space being largely occupied by airless rocks of little mineral value, the Gang has a great deal of free real estate set up with safehouses, docks with repair and refueling bays, caches on asteroids and so on. On Earth their base is a fortified bunker built beneath the Nolan Aerospace airfield and rocket launchsite. Sphere of Influence: The Lor Republic and Grue Individuality are the most economically stable, technologically-liberal and socially-mobile areas in local space. Thus, most Gang business is done in or with these systems. They exert subtle but considerable influence on the Developmental Quarantine Zone centered on Sol as well.
  21. Standing before the leader of the Praetorians, a battle-commander and hero of a thousand stars, Leroy could hardly have looked more disappointed. Sitting politely on the floor, a ton or so of unconscious magical reptile spilling onto it as well, he bowed his head. "Thank you for this hospitality, Paradigm Val-Ren. Devotion is a wonder of art and logic, a testament to the advances of your civilization. If Dio cared enough to be awake, I know he would say the same." For emphasis, the boy held his dragon up and shook him vigorously for several seconds. When that failed, he let the monster onto the ground and looked curiously at their host. "If I may presume on your goodwill, where is..." he shifted in his seat, frowning up at Paradigm, "the rest of you? Are you at the station? Who is this you currently inhabit?"
  22. As another black rainbow of mystery matter vanished, Leroy turned from it to shoot Mia a puzzled look. "Yet...power is what we are attempting to obtain, right leader? Are not supers valued by what fewer barriers lie between you and the object of your will? One of the richest and one of the most beloved supers of our time reign over a multinational corporation and a planet, do they not?" A sudden look of horror passed over his face and he waved his hands placatingly. "Not that I doubt you, of course! This is merely difficult for me to understand! Pay no mind!" His scars red, the Dragon Prince made the rest of the walk in embarrassed, downcast silence.
  23. Strolling along a respectful step behind Mia, Leroy hummed a marching tune to himself, face stern and defiant but with a giddiness in his step and a tugging at his lips that very much undermined the effect. As they passed the crystalline remnants of his ill-timed efforts to capture the ILD(Inadvisably Large Dog), he tapped a smaller, rectangular chunk against them, causing the swirling, arcing diamond to vanish with the dark-lit depths. Fissures in the floor, walls and ceiling, however, failed to dematerialize in the same way. "Ah, more time with good Basil," Leroy smiled, "well, he has been desirous of replacing this wood for some years. It will be a pleasure to help him. Sometimes I quite envy his chosen path, he builds and mends and cleanses, and harms none but the wicked. No matter how small the flaw is to us, to him it is worth every effort to expunge." Something sent a cloud over his face, "I am rather surprised at Àjàsoró. Such logic has done grievous harm to the causes of the oppressed, especially feminism. One of the reasons mother left these shadowlands, actually. Somehow, something was always more important."
  24. GM It reacted to her touch, opening up like an unfurling flower. Low, pulsing music began, the stage under her feet starting to gently rotate to show off every moment of Robin donning her heroic alter-ego. The inside was comfortable, cushioned and supportive at the same time. A black fluid covered the inside, faintly warm and pleasant to the touch. Almost anticipating her movements, the Ultio suit slid over her arms and legs, adjusting subtly to mould the torso around her frame. Like a snake shedding its skin in reverse, Robin felt hidden artificial muscles and a kind of gelatinous mass wrap around her. It was comforting, despite the circumstances, like she was being hugged from all sides. Finally, the helmet descended over her head, an augmented reality interface whooshing to life over the visor as a forcefield snapped into place in front of her face. Reams of data and a bewildering array of options were at a twitch of her eyes, with plenty of space to just look out into the world. A world spinning slowly to a halt as a crowd passed in and out of eyesight, a beaming Mars, still a good ways shorter than her, in black and green with a dragon-like aesthetic. "So, Rob!" he was shouting, an affectation for the stage rather than a necessity. His much-milder voice was coming in loud and and clear over an audio link, with captions identifying him and giving his tone on the visor. CEO Maximilian Mars: [Encouraging, Wonderment] Wow, folks! She looks like a hero already, doesn't she? The crowd loudly agreed. CEO Maximilian Mars: [Parental] I've never seen someone take to the suit so easily! What kind of powers are you thinking for Robin Langley, Warrior of Justice? Hollered suggestions, a segment of the options lighting up. Load-Out. 500 Hero Points were in her account already. She could afford one of the power packs, helpfully laid out with stylized examples of what kind of costume best fit it. There was an annoying golden light at the edge of her vision.
