  2. The wind roared in Queenie’s ears. She couldn’t hear anything over or under that omnipresent sound. So, she’d just have to use her eyes. At first, there was nothing and no one. What’d you expect, McQueen? Lines of adoring brown people hailing their savior? Nothing’s that easy, sunshine. Then, on top of a hill, a building had collapsed and was sliding down said hill. There were no flies on Maybelle McQueen. She flew over to the collapsed building as fast as she could and made a nice big colander to catch all that debris. She dug the edge slightly into the side of the hill so that nothing would slide under it. An trick she learned in the kitchen long ago. She just hoped she could hold it all.
  3. Terrifica didn’t like it. Her virtual doppelganger appears out of nowhere, with a story about a previously excellent scientist having made a terrible mistake and unleashed a monster upon the world. There was something she wasn’t telling. It was a mystery. Something hidden behind the obvious. How…interesting. “I don’t make a habit of getting into the vehicles of strangers I’ve just met. It’s dangerous thing to do, you know. Fortunately, I brought my own ride.†She pointed across the street at a motorcycle sitting in a parking lot across the street. Its appearance was utterly unremarkable. She tossed a glance at Miracle Girl. “It can seat two, if you’d prefer not to fly the entire way.†Quietly, she says. Discreetly because he’s gone and done something very illegal. Should the authorities find out, he will have to endure jail time, and that simply won’t do at all. Honestly. Geniuses and their egos. Her eyes narrowed into slits. “Quietly? You mean without informing law enforcement of any wrongdoing. Considering that the way you’ve told it, his monster is rampaging as we speak, you’ll forgive me if I have little sympathy for him. Genius comes with a responsibility to be used wisely. It’s annoying to me how many seem to forget or simply not care about that fact.†Terrifica sighed. “However, if the damage is confined to his own property and no one aside from himself has been injured, I see no harm in keeping this as quiet as possible. I cannot, however, say the same for my associate.â€
  4. Red Rat & Revenant Revenant’s fist drove the man back a few steps. He rubbed his jaw for a second. “Not bad. You are as strong as they say. I’m not the bragging type, either. I know I’m not the best there is.†He stepped back into the fray, hands up. “I just know I’m no amateur.†He was balanced loosely on the balls of his feet. His stance resembled the ones most often seen in a professional MMA fight on Pay Per View. “I just know a few things, you know?†His fist snapped out fast and snagged Revenant in the cheek. Blue Jay Unfortunately, Olive noticed Jay’s tracer just as soon as it was applied. It was true, hand to hand wasn’t her forte, but she was irritated with Jay. Some people make poor decisions when angry. There was a flash of green light, and Olive reappeared a short distance away. She had the tracer in her off hand. “What’s this, chica? Planning to follow me home?†Her irritation had vanished, like magic, and that playful confidence had returned. She wagged her finger at Jay.“Tut-tut. You say such awful things and then act so romantically. There’s a word for that, I think. Tsundere. I hate to break to you, chica, but you’re not my type. Too many girl parts, I’m sad to say.†Her smirk was extremely punchable, but then she seemed slightly confused. “Just between you and me, chica, I don’t get why anyone’s that upset. It’s just a business transaction. My associate and I get money. The parents get their girl. The other two get their problems solved. Everybody wins. It’s not like we’d hurt her or anything. We’re not monsters.†Then she smiled brightly. “We’re entrepreneurs!â€

  7. The vetting process runs counter to how I think and generally operate. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just that I should stick to simpler things to avoid having to 1. go through it and 2. throw tantrums and hissy fits because of it. It's a working with others process. Lots of talking. Cooperative effort. All that good stuff. Problem is, I work best alone with rules and/or guidelines. Don't like talking, or cooperative effort. Want to know what is allowed and what isn't, so I can work and be done with it. Not the way it works here. Is okay. Not bitter. Just...learned a new thing, is all. So. Something simpler. Couple of ideas. Renegade electromagnetic controller. Mysterious power outages. Tracing thereof. Find him. Street gang fight, maybe. Still...working on details. Or speedster battlesuit thief. Crime spree. Fast perp. Other heroes on it, but ours find her first. Still needs work, though. Not happy with build yet. Plot is weak. Needs shoring. Also, open to suggestions. Both are...unfinished. Is different. Can't really explain better.

  9. http://orokos.com/roll/233845 Aaand that's a 33. So she definitely noticed. Olive will casually teleport away again, actually laughing as she flicks the tracer away.

  12. Vonnie raised an eyebrow. “That is cool. I’mma have to take a look at that sometime. I’m a little into tech, too. Though I wouldn’t say I’m a genius, you know? I just know a few things.†Hino Heavy Industries…Vonnie pondered the same for a moment “The name’s familiar, but not really. Sorry. I’m just a kid from Brooklyn. I don’t know that much about big tech firms and all that.†At Sakurako’s mention of heroing, “Just a little? Practically a virgin. I been at this for over a year. Yeah, all but the last couple months were up in NYC, but still. I’ll take you on patrol with me. How about it?†He flicked a glance at Haruko. “You can come, too.†Then Errant. “…I don’t know if you’d even want to, man. Heard about some of the stuff you get up to. I’m just small potatoes. You are welcome though, I guess.†Aaand back to the ladies. “If you can’t swing or fly or whatever, I can carry you. Just gotta hold on tight. I can swing faster than most cars go in this town.†Vonnie was a good kid and he had a girlfriend he adored, this much was true. However, he was still a teenage boy and thus couldn’t help fantasizing about two pretty girls holding onto him tightly and then beating thug booty with a big civilian cheering section. Because…come on, man. What lady-lovin’ teenage boy (or girl, if we’re being real) wouldn’t dream of that? Little of this, however, showed on his face. Expert level poker face. Yessir. Look ladies! Crime! Wait. D#$% it. “Actually, I shouldn’t be all cozy like that. My girl wouldn’t like it. She’s a civvie, doesn’t go here. Y’all go ahead and eat.†He indicated his own snack. “I’m covered.â€
  13. Your Initiative rolls. I needs them. :D
  14. Sure, enough, between Trailblazer’s teleport flashes and the fact that it was a flippin’ Pumpkar, Stronghold found it hard to lose for good. Oh, it made a turn or two and almost lost her, but then Trailblazer would pop behind them again, or a quick soar above the buildings would solve that problem. Queenie, for her part, busily saved literally everyone who crashed along the way. She never quite caught up entirely, but no one was left trapped in their cars or in their shops. So, pros and cons. The chase led at last to the Waterfront. In particular, between two big warehouses with the water to the rear. The thugs hopped out of their Pumpkar and huddled around their leader. “We couldn’t shake ‘em, Miss N!†For her part, Miss N was as garishly armored (turnip armor!) and armed as the thugs, but had the demeanor of a true leader. Also the craziest set of crazy eyes that anyone present had ever seen. “So, then. It is time for the great showdown. The heroes have come to stop my foolish and wicked ways. But I say this to you. It is your ways that are foolish and wicked. All of that processed sugar and fat.†She spat out the offending words as if the syllables themselves disgusted her. “It is all poison, and you fools willingly eat it. I have come to save you all from yourselves. Know my name. Soon it will be hailed far and wide as the name of the savior of humanity. My name is The Nutritionist, and I will save you all even if I must destroy your heroes to do it. To me, my pretty!†At her call, the water heaved, and her creature revealed itself by climbing onto the dock. It was huge, standing at least 20 feet tall and maybe more. It’s just…the intimidation factor loses a little something when it’s a cauliflower with arms and legs. “Destroy them!â€
  15. Once again, Terrifica gripped the bridge of her nose with her thumb and forefinger. Sure, announce our presence to the entire Waterfront. What harm could that ever do? Still…this isn’t unsalvageable. She does make a fine distraction. She spoke quickly, and quietly. “Mechanized. I’m going to find another way in. Please make sure Glamazon doesn’t get in over her head. The more the enemy focuses on her, the easier I will go unnoticed.†She didn’t wait for the girl’s reply, instead directing her attention to the AEGIS agent. “Please wait here. Your faster connections to the emergency departments may be needed.†She didn’t wait for his response either, quickly walking around the building in search of an alternate entrance.
  16. Terrifica yawned. She was tired. She’d been here almost the entire night before, putting this finishing touches on, well, everything. Then a few hours’ worth of sleep and a day full of classes at MIT. So much joy, there were no words for how much. She disdained caffeine. No substitute for sleep. So, in true control freak fashion, she was in the control room with Jack. Technically, she was tucked into a corner using her longcoat as a blanket and dozing lightly. She opened her eyes now and again to see what was happening on the monitors, but for the most part she was having a light nap. She felt comfortable doing this because Grim kept popping up like a jackrabbit, only more nervous. She was wearing her normal costume for the moment, but there was a suspicious looking watch on her wrist. It was a holo-emitter, technically, but it didn’t change Terrifica’s appearance in the least. However, it did change the color scheme and pattern of her costume and longcoat. As such, Ghost Terrifica (all white with glowing black eyes) Demon Terrifica (all black with glowing red eyes), and Serial Killer Terrifica (no orange, red streaks all over, crazy eyes simulation) were all set to make appearances. After her nap.
  17. “Of course you didn’t have anything to do with it. Despite those men getting out of the van where you told me to meet you and having access to the radio frequency the men were using. Sheer coincidence, all of it.†Terrifica said offhandedly. She didn’t show it, but she was surprised by the woman’s appearance. There’s a significant resemblance to me. And the name, Ms D. D for doppelganger? How could that even be…done, with just a brief radio conversation? Can’t. Could be unknown enemy, who excellently hid said status. No. Speculation is pointless. Focus. Although…I don’t like that two for the price of one comment. “Doctor Ring? The scientist? I know of him. He does quality work, even if the general public would think him a mad scientist. The question is, why go to all this trouble? There are several tech based heroes with higher profiles than mine. And there are plenty of others who’d be more than pleased to punch down an out of control robot. You could have just walked in the front door of Archetech and had Miss Americana and Dragonfly on the job in less than an hour. A notice on Claremont’s bulletin board would have brought you at least half a dozen eager teenagers like this one.†She jerked a thumb at Miracle Girl. “So, I ask again. Why go to all this trouble?â€
  18. Because I'm nitpicky. Doesn't Gather Information work in similar fashion, only instead of getting on the internet you're talking to people?
  19. http://orokos.com/roll/233452 Knowledge Technology gets 21. http://orokos.com/roll/233453 The complicated chaining of Well Informed to Online Research to Computers gets 31. I don't even know if I can do that.
  20. There was a blank spot in Vonnie’s memory. Something…exploded, maybe? He’d moved, fast. Then…he bolted up right. The rocks had fallen and buried the entrance to the cave. Starshot had leaped clear, but the other boy hadn’t made it out. Vonnie dropped several Spanish curse words in rapid succession. He didn’t know much more of the language than that, but for letting off steam that little bit was more than sufficient. A quick glance with his spatial awareness revealed the grenade thrower was long gone. So, faster than should’ve been humanly possible (though not by all that much, granted) he was at the cave in with Starshot. He didn’t wait for the other boy to respond to the older man’s pleas. He just started flinging rocks out of the way with a strength that belied his mediocre build.
  21. Terrifica’s ears perked up, hearing the girl joining her. “Ah, good.†She turned around and started walking backwards. “You’re transferring into Claremont. You must have a codename picked out. The one I use is Terrifica.†There was a brief moment. “You may remain anonymous, if you prefer.†She turned around at the door outside. “I…don’t usually work with others. If you could let me do all the talking and just be glowing, floating, and vaguely menacing I would appreciate it.â€
  22. Terrifica strode just past the out of towner girl. “Before we go forward, you should know something very important.†She let the moment stretch before she spoke again. “What you’re thinking is written all over your body language. Momentary excitement upon meeting one of Freedom’s costumed champions. Now there’s anxiety. Am I really a hero? Did you make a false assumption? If I’m a villain, then I need to be stopped. But you can’t do it right now. Because I could be a hero, in the middle of stopping a bigger crime. You could just ask me, but unfortunately I’m not going to tell you. What I suggest is that you follow me and figure it out for yourself. Or are you the type to leave a perfectly good mystery unsolved?†On that note, she started leaving the building at a deliberate pace. Almost as if she was expecting the girl to catch up.
  23. As it stood, Vonnie appeared to be nothing more than another ambiguously brown student. Maybe a little on the handsome side, but not so much that he stood out. He wasn’t even dressed out of the ordinary. Jeans. Polo knock-off shirt. Sneakers. He directed his attention to Haruko. “Me? I’m Vonnie.†Now that he thought about it some. “Yeah…I think I’ve seen you around. I’m a sophomore, too. Think we’ve got that art class together on Thursdays, but don’t hold me to it. Sometimes I mix up faces. But you-â€He pivoted to Sakurako-“I have never seen before. Wouldn’t forget a face like that. What brings you to our fair school?†He managed to face them both with that last sentence, as if he was asking both at the same time. “Me, I’ve had some…bad breaks. Lost my mom. Still, I’ve got potential, says Headmaster Summers. So here I am.†There was a moment where his good cheer almost went out, but then it was back.
  24. http://orokos.com/roll/232905 19. A rare failure from orokos.
