  1. Alice was expecting the hit, although she was more preparing to be punched rather than swatted like an unruly chihuahua. She saw stars, and her ears rung. She stumbled back half a step, feeling the concrete beneath her crack slightly as her weight settled on it slightly. Shaking her head to clear it she looked up at the brute. "Is that all you got?"
  2. Shooting Star can take no actions due to being daze, but at least she keeps her dodge bonus such as it is XD
  3. Muirne retracted her arm without much fanfare and listened to the man talk once he switched to English. It certainly seemed the sort of issue to draw Vanguard's attention, so she knew at least why they were here. He said children but she was pretty sure he meant teenagers like herself or young adults like Mette. She could hardly condemn the idea of wanting to protect what is valuable to you, and she wasn't about to condemn them having super-weapons when she was on a team with several people who did the same. So the issue was therefore the violent turn the movement had taken. "Most of the problem is beyond the scope of what we can fix, but regardless we cannot stand by and allow such things to happen. People are angry, rightly so from the sound of it and so are getting violent. Is this person directing them to be violent, or simply not speaking out against it and so allowing it to go unopposed?" It was an important distinction she felt. While the latter implied that he was either not of sufficient moral fiber or brave enough to speak out against the violence, it meant that the anger in the main body of people would likely push a more violent leader to the fore. If he was encouraging it then it was unlikely that his removal could have a negative result. We could strike back against the violent groups, depriving them of weaponry and the more aggressive membership. Aoife piped up, and while Muirne could see the validity in how that would defang the group, it didn't sit right with her. That would imply that we support what they are fighting against. Aoife responded first with a burst of confusion, then derision before replying. If their cause is righteous then the violence is justified. Muirne suppressed a frown at the comment. She could understand how Aoife came to the conclusion, but the targets sounded populated rather than governmental or anything of the like. Violence against civilians is never justified. Muirne responded resolutely. She felt that this conversation would need revisiting, at least to explain the reasoning behind it.
  4. Muirne took the pass from the Headmistress with a quiet nod, choosing not to comment about the 'colourful language' that she would apparently be exposed to. It wouldn't be diplomatic to mention it. She bowed slightly before retreating from the room upon dismissal and turning to Betsy, “As Luke asked earlier, is there anywhere in particular that you would like to go, Síþwíf Brooks?" She may not be particularly sure how to respond to the woman herself yet, but she had a job to do. Besides, this 'Betsy' person seemed interesting. Muirne didn't disagree with Aoife's comment, it seemed to her that she might learn some valuable things from Síþwíf Brooks, and Luke would probably get himself in trouble asking about the Headmistress' school days.
  5. If the army liaison was perturbed by the eclectic mixture of individuals coming to his nation's defence he didn't show it, although there was a somewhat confused look at Aquaria's comment about things from mountains. With a small nod the man spoke again, "It's nice to see you all so eager, if you'd all follow me we have a briefing room ready so that we can point you in the right direction." The room he led them to was dominated by a large table with a map of the area with a handful of points marked with pins and small notes saying what the place is. The only other occupant is a well dressed, elderly Māori man who slowly stands to greet the heroes, his eyes lingering on Klara before moving on. The liaison cleared his throat before speaking again. "This is Hunu Huhapo, he's the leader of a local Hapū. He was asked to come in to offer insight on the situation after the giants were identified as likely being from Māori stories." The old man nodded, "Tēnā koutou. The giants are called the Maero, the stories tell that Māori drove them into the mountains and forests after coming from Hawaiki and that they kill and eat both animals and people." He grimaced as he looked to the liaison, "We should count ourselves lucky that the towns near where they are were evacuated quickly." The military man nodded, looking to the heroes. "We have limited reconnaissance, since we've been keeping our distance on the ground and they have some magic users who can conjure storms strong enough that planes and helicopters can't get near them. We know that they've reached Windwhistle on the near side of the Rakaia river with an advance force, while the main body hasn't started moving overly much yet. The primary thing we need is to either take and hold the bridge or destroy it, since that would force them to head downriver to advance, giving us more time to mobilize, but if possible we'd appreciate any other help you could offer."
  6. Again, The Dreamer still wasn't particularly well versed in the workings of this world, but those people were definitely suspicious. Left unmentioned would be the fact that she was also on a roof, likely looking suspicious but regardless. With a slightly frustrated sigh she abandoned another wheelchair to an ignoble end being left in random places. She was pretty sure she'd seen one on an online store. Thankfully she could always dream another one, just as she dreamed herself armour plating over her dress and a steel mask with a sharp pointed nose and a large crest studded with silver and blue gems to match her clothing. She used her Dream Movement to lift herself up onto the back of the large blue dragon that she conjured onto her roof, and then quickly it flew to the other. Alighting close enough to be heard, yet far enough to appear non-threatening she spoke up. "Forgive the intrusion, but it is a mite suspicious to be inspecting the building which also happens to be the place of work of a recently kidnapped individual. Surely you have a perfectly reasonable explanation, no?"
  7. The Dreamer is gonna investigate the roof people. She'll be using her flight to reach them, Summon and Wonderland Arrays are set to Assault of the Dream Beast and Dream Movement respectively.
  8. Aoife looked at the group appraisingly as they conversed with Nightscale. She was aware that the Freedom League was held in high regard, and her prey fleeing was an obvious point in favour of their reputation not being blown out of proportion. "We are Claremont Students, yes." With that, Aoife went silent once more. She contemplated saying more. Muirne would say more, but what would she say? "Will you be needing any further questions immediately, or would it be best to do so at a later date?" There. She was even being sensitive, since they needed to handle Fleur's death, however temporary it might be. She bet even Luke couldn't tell she wasn't Muirne!
  9. Ouch, our boy swings hard! Shooting Star's toughness is 1d20+12 = 17 which I don't think I want to take, so I will immediately spend a Hero Point on rerolling that, since I don't want her to be immediately pulverized 1d20+12+10 = 23 a one! A nat 1! Ouch!
  10. Alice looked over as the two teens ran up to them. She had to admit that she was surprised that the girl was taller than she was, but she pushed that aside as she reassessed the situation. Silver said that she was okay, and so the number one priority was retrieving the kidnapped girl. She turned to the civilians again speaking quickly, "Stay back, it's pretty obvious this guy is packing powers and I don't want any civilians caught in the crossfire. Can one of you call the authorities and tell them that there is a kidnapping happening with powers involved? Let them know that Shooting Star and-" She looked at Silver, she didn't know her name and didn't really want to call her 'Silver' out loud when she was acting as the authority, lest the name sticks and they not like it. Instead she lamely continued, "-Her... On the scene attempting to apprehend the criminal. After that get yourselves under cover." With that, she sped off to the part of being a hero that she really enjoyed. Not that she didn't enjoy helping people, but nothing got her blood pumping like a fight. She rocketed past the big guy after missing an attempted tackle, stopping on a dime after passing him. "Okay creep, put the lady down or this will get ugly."
  11. Okay, now that she knows Chimera's okay she's after the big guy. She's gonna fly after him. Then going for a grapple attempt, she's All-out-Attacking for the max she can +4/-4. To hit roll 1d20+7 = 12, I doubt she hit ? EDIT! She will also be interposing any attacks that le Brute puts towards people. If it's an area attack she'll prioritise the 'civilians', protecting El if both are threatened.
  12. The Carnifex ex Imaginatio The Carnifex grinned as the men pulled their weapons. She'd been hoping on that sort of reaction. "Apparently it's great!" The nightmare leapt forward, striking the man across the head with her stone-like fist. "Oh you have a sword! I'm terrified." She crouched down, her grin still affixed to her face as she reached the man's head height, opening her arms to expose her torso, "Come on, hit me!" The Dreamer The Dreamer reached the roof moments before the Carnifex laid the gun toting guard out, and had a distinct sinking feeling that things were going to go sideways in a rather extreme manner. "You have me at a disadvantage, but yes I am called The Dreamer by those who know me. Who are you, and are you responsible for the Carnifex attacking those men? If so, why?" She narrowed her eyes at the creature. The Carnifex was an unrepentant monster, and setting it on some men without a good reason wasn't something she could allow.
  13. Okay, Initiative for The Dreamer is a straight 1d20 = 20 holy crap a nat 20. Initiative for The Carnifex is 1d20+2 = 19
  14. 1d20+2 = 21 Shooting Star is quick off the mark!
  15. Okay! Let's go. The Carnifex is going to All-Out-Attack +2/-2 and take a 10 to hit for a +6 to hit and then take a 10 (16 total) to smack over the dude with the gun. DC 25 Toughness for the poor fella.
  16. Removed her Variable power and replaced with array.

  20. Burnham Military Camp Near Christchurch Aotearoa/New Zealand July 3nd, 2021 On the first day of the Matariki celebrations an army of giants appeared from the Southern Alps, marching upon the city of Christchurch. With no time to respond the New Zealand Armed Forces had to turn to other sources of help. And so, the day after Matariki the government of Aotearoa put forth a call for heroes. At Burnham Military camp a liaison waited for the heroes to arrive, smiling when relief when the four heroes were assembled in front of the building. "Thank you all for coming so swiftly."
  21. Alice had been keeping an eye out for the kidnapper, patrolling extra when she could to find them. She had to admit that she wasn't really expecting to actually find anything though. Regardless of whether she actually expected this, she wasn't just gonna float on past when people needed help. Priority one, check on the strange cape. Regardless of if they were Hero or Villain, Alice didn't know if they had super toughness and if they didn't they could have broken bones or internal bleeding. Priority two was to go after the guy of course. She flew quickly to the crushed car, reaching her hands forward to the stranger to keep them from moving too much. "Hey, don't move. Are you super-tough or anything? If not, does your biology respond to modern medicine or do you have somewhere you can go for medical care?"
  22. I am also glad to have been a part of the story and look forward to doing more threads with both of you!

  24. I'd be happy to toss Shooting Star in
  25. Aoife froze as the monster just... fled. She had been expecting the creature to return to the attempts at killing them, but instead this new individual showed up and it simply left. Was this new individual that significant of a threat? Or was their appearance a herald of something more threatening? They seemed preoccupied with Fleur's corpse, so they should take some time to recouperate. Quickly she turned to Luke, "Are you alright Nightscale?"
