    Heavy Mettle

Natalia relaxed her power, black and gold dust settling and fading away into nothing without her to sustain it. She took a moment to look over Pan's creation with a proper critic's eye before responding. "It's arguably helpful," she said, "intrusive, distractingly garish, it's vainglorious, and it will be exceedingly annoying for whoever has to clean up after all this mess." The young heroine turned to leave the stage, patting Pan on the shoulder as she went. With her remaining good arm. "For you, I'm sure it's perfect. You're right, after all: I'm sure it will be much better for your story." She didn't bother taking the stairs off the stage; she simply hopped down, extending just enough power to fall in slow motion to the ground. "Crisis averted, then."

    The Third Act

"If I have the time," said Natalia, which meant 'yes'. She pushed her sunglasses back up. "Unpacking wouldn't be the worst idea, and I have a lot of it, even if I don't pull any projects out." Maybe she'd have time to track Ryder down, if she was efficient about it. That part was not for saying out loud. "You and I should talk, too," she added, pointing a finger Muirne's way. "Not now, but soon. One on one. We'll se ground rules, figure out allergies. It'll be great." She did not sound like she thought it would be great. She laid a hand on her luggage and picked it up like it weighed nothing, setting off toward her room. "Later."

    The Third Act

Natalia nodded to Muirne's roommate confirmation, but with so much other chatter going on she hadn't bothered with more than that; in fact, with so much ongoing chatter she'd been content to lean against her oversized luggage and watch the room. She should probably have just left. Was it weird to just hang out? She could stand to learn more about the new blood, but needed to not look like she was actively interested. That wouldn't do. She'd even put her sunglasses back on, the better to hide where she was looking. And yet she probably shouldn't have bothered - at Danica's entrance she had to at least slide them down her nose a little to get a better, and approving, look. "Danica," she said. "Looking good. I like the hair - a little loud, but it's a nice contrast. If you can't match your own colors, you can at least match your accessories, hm?"

    The Third Act

Nocturne Natalia pressed her lips together for a moment before, apparently, deciding that this was just how this year was going to go. "Well," she said, "then I suppose you own yourself. Phenomenal. Try to keep your fur to other things you own, hm?" She removed her sunglasses, carefully slipping them into one of her folded jacket's pockets in exchange for a small slip of paper. "Though unless you're in room....305," she added, gold irises skimming her notes, "I imagine that won't be hard. I'll just have to live in hope that my new roommate doesn't run a zoo...or a cat rescue."

    The Third Act

Nocturne "Tch. More animals," said Natalia, taking in the common room as she entered; she was wearing black slacks and a loose golden top, but the matching jacket was draped over a piece of luggage too large to be reasonably moved as easily as it was. She set the luggage down for a moment and it immediately slumped under weight it hadn't previously had. "I don't suppose anyone's figured out who owns them," she asked, looking down at the cats from behind her sunglasses. "I'd really prefer to not spend yet another year trying to get animal fur out of everything I own."
  7. Just a couple quick typos on Gawain; you've bought Con 16, and paid for Con 16, but you've noted the cost at 5pp. Down at the bottom, the wolf form's super-senses are listed at 1pp even though they cost (and you correctly paid) 4pp.

    Heavy Mettle

"Language, Cricket," chided Nocturne; with the threat passed she'd settled back down on the ground, dust and debris shifting slightly as she dropped her gravity bubble. She looked like she had a headache - though, she often did. She pointed at Eira without looking, adding, "And you are not in a position to recommend anyone else for repairs." She was not looking at Eira because she was looking up at the bandshell, flexing her hands as if they ached. They did ache. "I should be able to hold that up," she said, little wisps of black and gold dust tentatively circling her feet, "if anyone wants to secure our captive and make sure nobody's been left behind. With all this noise and panic I can't imagine emergency services aren't already on their way, police included."

"Not much flesh and bone in there," said Nocturne. She was gathering that odd dust again, arms low and wide as it coalesced into something like a claw. "Sea shanties and weak resolve, maybe." The claw wasn't fast but it was certain, leisurely flowing through the air to dig its points into the thing's back - each point an anchor, each anchor drawing gravity in and down to hurt the thing and hold it in place. Not for more than an instant, but sometimes an instant is all anyone needed. "Let's put it out of our misery."

    Heavy Mettle (OOC)

Well, Nocturne called for coordination so she may as well help! She will also get in on the combined attack. The DC won't matter so much since her flat DC will still help for the combined bonus, but she'll all-out attack +2/-2 to offset her PL and attack penalty: Ranged Attack Roll: 21 DC23 toughness, which is just barely within the +/-5 of Canister's DC27.

"Professor who?" Nocturne asked, coldly, and as pointedly as possible. Also pointed: several jagged bits of rubble, which she dragged up into the air with a gesture and flung at the crab creature with one outstretched arm; she put as much force into it as possible, but she didn't like her odds against something this large. She caught it off-guard before, but now.... "Tch," she said, wishing too late that she'd held a little in reserve after shredding the other demon. She wanted to spit; it wouldn't have been proper. "If the rockette slips free again we're going to have to prioritize - it's all well and good if these fools to fight each other, but if not we need to thin the ranks. As for you, knockoff, apparently if you want to get to the original you're going to have to go through this thing first. Maybe make yourself useful before you go back to assassination."
  13. "A souvenir?" asked Gaian Knight, though his tone was nothing but friendly, head propped up on one fist as he enjoyed the discussion. He'd always enjoyed when everyone could just...chat. There was so little time for it some days. "Not that I'd imagine Fleur's creating a bunch of poisonous poppies, given the circumstances, but you never know and magic can do some interesting things. It's probably worth treating the flower with respect, either way." It was fairly subtle. Tiamat was less so. "If we find out later that a plant monster has shown up in a government facility," she said, "I won't think highly of it." She was also smiling. Her smile was not especially nice. "Flowers, I think, are for admiring and not experimentation." "Benefit of the doubt, Tiamat." She didn't look convinced, but the knight shook his head rather than push it further. "Sorry. And, again, welcome - don't hesitate to reach out if you need us. For my part, though, no - I didn't have anything else to cover. Anyone?"

    Heavy Mettle (OOC)

Well, none of that's good! Nocturne's going to turn her attention back to the Crab, I guess, in the hopes of thinning the field a little. She makes a ranged attack with her move object, as before, but with what little power attack as she can muster: Ranged Attack Roll vs. Crab: 19! If that hits, it's a DC25 Toughness Save vs. damage.

    Heavy Mettle

Nocturne turned in mid air, scowling down at the armored newcomer with something like tired, angry disbelief. "Now there are two of them," she muttered. "I'm pretty sure that isn't allowed." And then they shot acid at Ryder. "Definitely not allowed," she said, setting her jaw; she reached out and made a fist. "Have you considered inventing your own gimmick?" she asked, gravity bending inward on the newcomer like a giant unseen hand. She tried to look less tired than she felt - Pan's proclamation helped, and she'd never tell him so. "Something original. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but it betrays a certain weakness of character. I'll be happy to give you some design advice, but right now we're busy, and you'll have to wait your turn."

    Heavy Mettle (OOC)

Well, I'm hesitant to leave the Crab standing but as long as she has the benefit of the Inspire, and seeing as it applies to attacks and checks.... Nocturne tries to gravity-grapple the new guy. Ranged Attack Roll: 25! Grapple Check: 30! Thank goodness for that inspire, she can't roll a grapple check to save her life this thread....
  17. RETURNING STUDENT Name: Natalia Koschei Codename: Nocturne Year: Junior Pronouns: she/her Current Intramural Team: Orange Current Roommate: Kid Celtic (inactive) Reflection: Last year was...productive. Natalia needs to expand her use of her powers, and probably work on her stamina. Independent Thinker: Natalia has met too many people who justify her pre-Claremont world view, and too many people who don't fit it at all. A conundrum.
  18. "It often ends up being less about the doctoring and more about whatever specialty would apply best to a given metahuman," agreed Gaian Knight; with more formal business done he'd settle back into his chair a bit, casual without slouching. It was an office hours trick. "If you have magic concerns, you probably need a magician more than a medical doctor; if you've sprung a coolant leak, you probably need an engineer, and we have a few of those we've worked with regularly. If your problem really is biological, or intersects heavily with your biology, then it isn't going to hurt to grab a couple near-experts and watch them put their heads together. If you can't find a meta-human specialist, then a regular doctor and a brilliant biologist may be able to sort you out, and they'll probably be excited to do it." "And for dire problems," observed Tiamat, "we know a few proper healers." Her stress on 'proper' probably underscored her opinion on modern, mundane medicine. "That too, present company absolutely included," agreed Gaian Knight. "And, ah, speaking of company - I assume Amaryllis knows already. Is she excited?"

    Heavy Mettle

Nocturne was breathing heavily as her black-and-gold particles dispersed into nothingness - alongside the musical monstrosity, to her visible satisfaction. She took a moment to scan the battlefield, which was definitely a tactical choice and not because her bones ached, and almost breathed a sigh of relief...until the crab-taur-shark one grew. Eira had the girl with Pan for backup, the guitar was concerning, but Natalia could probably sit down for a while, Ryder had this, right? Right. "Right," she said, gritting her teeth. She didn't fly so much as fell, sliding through the sky toward the bandstand like she'd stepped off a ledge. "Hey!" She shouted, gesturing; the nearest heavy, inexpensive object or rubble she could find shot toward the remaining Melod-oni's back. "Making your music louder's not going to help you if your music sucks!"

    Heavy Mettle (OOC)

Nocturne becomes fatigued. That thing's probably a bit large to try a grapple, so Nat's going to fly over to flank the Crab opposite Ryder and...hit it with a normal ranged attack, maybe get its attention. Ranged Attack Roll: 21 If that lands, it's a DC23 toughness save.
  21. "Embarrassing or not, it's a little encouraging to hear," said Gaian Knight, folding his hands on the table. "It's one thing to say you have experience training under the best - it's another to know where that happened, and to know that you have practical experience in the community. We're not going to spread that around against your will, of course, but if you do get push-back from other heroes your history might help to win them over. It's something to think about." "One assumes she doesn't need us to tell the government how to play politics," drawled Tiamat, who had been looking ever less interested as the conversation went on; Gaian Knight only shrugged, conceding the point without contest. "If there aren't any other questions for the Patriot, perhaps we can move on to a great deal of congratulations and thinly-disguised attempts to get gossip and secrets out of Fleur."
