  1. Keeping a mind that its not your specialty, you'd know the rough basics of nanomachines: Very tiny machines, that can be programmed for a variety of purposes. They have not seen much use in either public or private sectors yet, having been a mostly theoretical science, that has now evolved into an emerging technology. There are theories that they can be used to do anything from 3D printing to biochips, nanoassembly, use in medicinal fields and more. All the information you had been able to find on Dr. Lang kept her actual area of expertise for nanomachines intentionally vague.
  2. GM "Yep, pretty standard stuff. Gotta keep the lawyers happy." Rita was rocking a bit back and forth, from her heel to her toes, while Nicole read the NDA. Once she had finished signing and clipped on the visitor's pass, Rita started gesticulating towards the nearest elevator. She barely even seemed to acknowledge that the receptionist was there. She let out a quick laugh at Nicole's question. "No, no. Its great, and its grand, but I'll let you decide for yourself. Some people just doesn't seem to understand why what I'm doing here matters, and some seem to do, so, I'll let you decide whether its worth dropping your jaw or not. But yeah, I've been working on this for years, and I think it'll be ready soon." Rita winked at Nicole while she pressed the button, then paused, before asking her own question. "So, tell me, what do you know about nanomachines?"
  3. GM As the clouds began to gather and the rain began to fall, the group outside would hear a whistling sound. Or rather, a pair of sounds. Like two projectiles hurling towards them at great speed, flying through the air. Inside, the group could see just that, smoke rising from the ships where their cannons had been fired. To those with enhanced senses, it was clearly more than just lumps of iron and metal. Intricate designs were woven into the cannonballs, glowing with a bright red light that left trails behind them, even as the speed of the projectiles made the exact designs impossible to see. The group gathered outside barely had time to react before the cannonballs slammed into Zenith's barrier, the impact shaking the entire thing, leaving behind a gaping hole.
  4. Forever Boy init: 24 For now, I'll just roll for the ships as a whole, with more initiative coming along the way Ship A Crew: 23 Ship B Crew: 15 The ships each get to shoot a cheap shot, having gotten ready for just that as they approached: Ship A: 28 Ship B: 17 Both hit the dome, resulting in a DC23 and DC27 Toughness roll for it, respectively. @TheAbsurdist do you want to roll for that, or want me to? As mentioned, we'll go with a rolling initiative of two acting at once, then going on to the next one. So @Tiffany Korta and @KnightDisciple is up, with @Thevshi and me on standby. Once all four has taken their turn, I'll go with the Pirates. Might split into two threads as originally planned later, but doesn't make sense to do so right now. *32 - White Lioness - 1HP - Unharmed *26 - Thunderbird - 2HP - Unharmed 25 - Veronica Danger - 3HP - Unharmed 24 - Forever Boy - 4HP - Unharmed 23 - Ship A Crew - Undamaged 21 - Ms. Thursday - 2HP - Unharmed 19 - Salvo - 2HP - Unharmed 15 - Ship B Crew - Undamaged 11 - Zenith - 2HP - Unharmed Other Zenith's Dome - Toughness 10, Def -7? (5-12) (Awesome Size) - Undamaged (pending hits) Current situation, to summarize: The institute is currently surrounded by a Toughness 10 dome, which the teens can pass or shoot through without harm. Zenith, Micah and Ms. Thursday is outside, with fog and rain clouds giving them some cover. Everyone else is inside. The flying Sky-Pirate ships are approaching from above, being about 3300 feet away at this point, having just Let me know if I miss anything at some point, will probably be a lot going on all at once.
  5. Sense Motive DC25 to reveal the spoiler
  6. GM The squids were, as far as they could tell, absolutely terrified, absolutely glowing yellow now. They all snapped to attention, huddled around each other as they were, one weakly pointing further into the ship at the question. The one that had pointed started flashing. Duller and brighter, shifting through much of the color spectrum. It was difficult, but Aquaria understood, at least. They are further in the ship. I will show the way. Please do not hurt us anymore. It paused, flashing more colors in response to the question of its comrade. He hid. He was scared.
  7. That's another hit, and TOU for the cultist: 23 Somehow still standing! Give me an IC, then I'll follow up with Cultist 1.
  8. Well, the Nazis were clearly looking for something here. Cassidy was the first to admit that he had no idea what any of the weird Atlantean text on the walls meant, or what the Nazis were saying for that matter, but he was not going to let that get in the way. They were Nazis in full uniforms, and you didn't try to reason with Nazis. Even if they weren't exactly the pure white and blonde Nazi stereotype that he'd expect, but did it really matter? And then Tsunami decided to make her move. The water rose up, blocking the path and she stepped into the light, addressing the Nazis. Right, no issue there. The question was how would they react? Cassidy had an advantage here. While Tsunami might have announced herself, he was still hidden, and if the Nazis proved hostile? Well, better to get into the right position, then. The sand moved across the floor, as if a wind was blowing. Slowly, almost impossibly, moving in between the men, right in the middle of the group. Time to see what they'd say to Tsunami, then decided on what to do.
  9. A preemptive stealth to sneak closer to the men while sand and with Hide In Plain Sight in use: 1d20+14 = 29
  10. @Avenger Assembled Yeah, I think we're stretching the free action a bit, so... Wadjet goes first, then the Cultist gets to react on her turn.
  11. GM The squids stopped in their tracks. Rather, they were forcibly stopped in their tracks, as Asad's explosion of brilliant blue white energy impacted against the floor and the water blew out towards the squids, sending them back a few feet. They all flashed yellow as Asad raised his glowing hand, starting to huddle together, their arms wrapping around each other as they sought support. They stayed very yellow, not a single other colors shining from them. To those that understood, the meaning was clear. Don't hurt us. We surrender. And yet, one squid that the group knew of remained, having escaped somewhere into the ship.
  12. GM "You bet! We're building the future here, kid! Can't have just anyone snooping around and try to steal it, right?" Rita was beaming, gesturing with her hand for Nicole to follow towards the building. "You'll get to see most of it, gotta keep some secrets, but you'll have to sign a NDA first, of course." The large pyramid structure loomed over them. As they approached, it started to block out the sun, leaving them in shadow. "From everything I heard, you're trustworthy of course, but lawyers and money men and all that." They got to the entry, which quickly opened into the main room with the reception. Rita quickly strolled up to it, picked up a tablet and handed it over to Nicole. "Alright, that's the NDA. I'll need you to read everything there, then sign at the bottom." She was all business now, the jovial tone from before all but gone. The receptionist, a dark haired man in his early twenties with a small moustache and short hair, flashed Nicole a quick smile and held up a visitor's pass for her to see. Reading the NDA over, it seemed like pretty standard stuff. It was mostly stating how Nicole were sworn to secrecy, and any and all sharing of information that she learned during the visit would be strictly controlled by ArcheTech. Any unauthorized sharing would learn to termination, with the possibility of lawsuits to come. Rather standard stuff, really.
  13. Great rolls, but as you said, just skimming. Official stuff: Rita Lang has been working on nanotech for more than 20 years. She has had many interesting theories about how nanomachines could be used to cure diseases, repair tissue and more, once the technology fully matures, at least. She has generally kept out of public, but is well known in academia. She has been with ArcheTech since ArcheTech West opened. Generally speaking, Rita seems to be more of a planner than a doer, making the plans and theories, and leaving it to her assistants to actually build the nanomachines. There has been several instances in the past of assistants or colleagues complaining about her being a perfectionist, firing others over mistakes. Rita claims that this has only been after several similar incidents.
  14. I don't really feel the need for a GM post yet, so let's keep going with them just hanging out and setting the scene a bit before I get the action started.
  15. Forever Boy Walking. Always walking. Even if Pan did not see the need for secrecy of identities, he would at least respect his friends' needs, and so, he was walking, rather than flying. It took longer, and it was not quite as fun as flying, but that was how it was. "I imagine there are a great many movies I have yet to see, nerds or not." He leaned in a bit closer, flashing a grin. "After all, we did not have movie theaters back on Neverworld. Many other wonders, sure, but no moving images on giant screens." He decided to leave out the part about only having been on the Earth for less than a year so far. He had not exactly been shy about being from somewhere else, after all. And of course he had loved Star Wars, so this, Star Trek? Now that should be fun to see. Honestly, both being Star somethings made it a bit confusing, but he was willing to brave the confusion! And while Selena might be paying the tickets, he insisted on the snacks. Including lots and lots of popcorns. Ever since his first visit to a movie theater a short while back where Danica had introduced him to the wonders of popcorn with butter, he had been hooked.
  16. Justice Yeeeah. Gretchen had it covered. She didn't really seem to care that Robin was nearby, but honestly, why should she? Its not like she knew what Robin could do in the first place, even if that man seemed like a weirdo. She really shouldn't worry, right? Just some loon trying to come in with some phony book and try to get an easy payday? Robin smirked a bit at the thought. Yeah, like he was going to get by Gretchen with a play like that. No way that would work out how he hoped. Still, he seemed really weird, so better to not take any chances, right? She moved somewhat closer, without getting too close. Just browsing, looking around.
  17. GM "And yet, here it is! A book that does not make sense, and yet it exists! The find of the decade! The century, even!" The man was clearly still excited, even as Gretchen started opened the book. The first page seemed to be an index. Something else that made little sense, if it was a book that had manuscripts written one by one. And the titles were not exactly the greatest stories ever told. Or at least, not ones that were well known. A total of six stories were listed in it. The War to End All Wars. A Planetary Romance. Sword of Justice. Star Cross. Under A Metal Sky. The Astonishing World of Miv. The question was, which story would Gretchen turn the pages to?
  18. GM The alien horse man tried to stop his laughing, and started to float up, while Mona was dancing around him on the waves. Whatever else, his perception could at least keep up with Mona. "Ha, yes, yes, I must imagine I am!" Another laugh. Qaqaqaqai. And she was off. He started flying after, building up speed, until touching down and starting to run on the waves, and this time, he actually started catching up with her. "But, you see, this was but a test! And you passed, wonderfully and with such haste!" He was almost up to her, and somehow, she could hear his voice even before he reached her. "This is an invitation! To the great race! Speedsters from across the multiverse, racing across all that is and might be!"
  19. Go ahead with IC, that'll stop them in their tracks.
  20. Dust Devil could work for occult hero, though he's not much of an investigator yet. Not quite early 20'es, but he is mid 20'es. He is Western themed and powered by the Magic Mesa, so if its something with ghost dance, he'd fit right in there.
  21. Justice There was a lot of commotion going on up near the entrance, with the strange man barging in like that. Robin had moved closer, standing just a bit away now. Gretchen was tough, pretty no-nonsense, and Robin would like to think that they'd become acquitances, if not friends yet, but it still felt weird just leaving her with the strange man and his book all on his own. Holding a hand up to her mouth, she coughed once and then started browsing a nearby shelf, just to let Gretchen know that she was there.
  22. GM The man appeared dumbfounded for a moment. Moving a hand up, he raised his glasses, which had slid down his nose, to make sure they were properly over his eyes again. "You are the owner?" He paused for a moment. Not exactly what he had been expecting, but then he just placed the heavy book down on the counter in front of Gretchen. "Behold! Original manuscripts, for several of the greatest stories told in the last century!" He looked expectedly at Gretchen, his glasses starting to slip once again. "All used this book to write them down, all passed it on to the next!" He was excited, that much was clear. And as Gretchen looked at the book with the glasses, it was clear that there was something magical about it.
  23. OOC for this. @Zeitgeist Blue
  24. GM May 11th, 2019 1 PM ArcheTech West, Bridgepoint Nicole had been given a special opportunity, as part of her internship at ArcheTech. Come to ArcheTech West in Emerald City, shadow Doctor Rita Lang for the weekend. It was not so much a work weekend as a research weekend. The notes about the actual research had been kind of sparse. It had something to do with nanomachines, and a revolutionary use for them, but aside from that, the notes were rather short. They did note that Doctor Lang had specificially asked to have Nicole shadow her, so that was a plus, at least. Something about wanting an outsider's view of the project, which meant Nicole would have to write a report on it once it was done. Doctor Lang was standing outside the building as Nicole arrived. She was a Caucassian woman in the late 40'es. Slightly overweight, which she would attest was because of staying in laboratory all day. Her dark red hair seemed to have been dyed to hide beginning grey hair. She wore a white labcoat, which was open, revealing her jeans and a black t-shirt with the Nine Inch Nails logo. A pair of glasses was hidden in the pocket of the white labcoat. She patiently waited, looking up from her phone as Nicole arrived. "Hey, you must be Nicole. I'm Rita, nice to finally meet you. Been hearing great things about you, kid."
