    Fragile

Phaedra let herself get pushed out of Winifred's room--she was strong, she could have resisted if she wanted to--and smiled after her girlfriend's lips left her own. She was still smiling when she watched Cathy head back in to check on the Victorian, when inspiration struck. Phaedra glanced down the hall to where the others where waiting then vanished in a flicker of crimson light. The redhead was gone for a few minutes when a portal yawned open in Fred's room and she reappeared with a pint of mint chip ice cream and a spoon. This she handed off to Winifred with a grin, reached out and gave her shoulder a squeeze and pirouetted around to hook her arm through Cathy's and escorted her from the room.
  2. "That's not blood," Nightingale said, peering into the room over the shoulder of a person whose name she didn't catch. She didn't realize she said that out loud for a moment--too busy reminding herself to not go licking the blood, at least not with witnesses--but the she gave a small grin. "I would be an awful haemotheurge if I couldn't spot the difference." Good save, she thought to herself. Avoid the vampire stuff. Blood magic is already creepy enough. "So.. who wants to play occult google translator?"

    Fragile

Phaedra slipped past Riley and Robin after they left to give Winifred some space. Until now she had been Cathy's silent shadow, quietly sharing the burden of her girlfriend's concern for her friend. Now she stood in the door frame, looking across to someone that she regarded as an ally and friend and frowned slightly. "You had Cathy worried," the half-breed said without preamble. "I was not," she admitted, giving Fred a small shrug that could have been an apology. "Believe what you may, but I understand more of your condition than the others do. I admire your control of it."
  4. Is it actually blood? Nicola has a nose for these things...
  5. The Church was more aware of the occult than most would realize at first, but when one stopped to consider matters, its interest made considerably more sense. Which explained why one Nicola Cervenka, known in some select circles at the Nightingale (and in some even more exclusive circles as Sister Nightingale) had heard about the Celestial Spirit Fellowship and that it had reached out. Because despite being a vampire, the former religious sister still had a relationship with The Church. Not one that the Church would ever admit to of course, even normal people didn't want to admit that vampires were real, but the Church certainly didn't want to admit it had one on its payroll. So to speak. -- A woman with pale skin and dark hair approached the group, eyes obscured by sunglasses though it was rapidly approaching dusk. Her clothing was dark, her coat was leather and long, the wind toying with it dramatically. On top of her head was a dark hat, the classic detective fedora and around her neck hung a rosary. Her movements where, in a word, predatory and seemed at odds with her close-lipped smile. "Good evening," she said, her English still carried her Czech accent. "I am the Nightingale." That sounds so stupid thought Nicola, but her King--and since when did she start thinking of Avenger as her king?--insisted upon her adopting a moniker. She glanced at those still outside and gestured toward the door. "Might we enter?"

    Limber Up.

"Cathy is.. just the coolest," Phae said smile, looking a little apologetic at the unintentional pun. "You really should come hang out more often," Phae said absently pulling at her top and frowning at the wet fabric. She sighed then glanced back up at Robin, "We've been doing a lot of combat training together lately, Cathy and myself." She chuckled, "Raina too, if you can believe it. Though I think she's not all that thrilled by my being there. She's oddly territorial, an attitude I'd more expect from people at home than here."
  9. Min returned to the living room with a tray of snacks. She didn't really expect anyone to each, maybe nibble or two, but the tray of cut vegetables, crackers and cheeses was more to give people something to do with their hands. Or to keep their mouths occupied so awkward silences were just slightly less awkward. After she set the tray down she returned to Erik's side, giving her husband a small sad smile with a hint of apology. She rested a hand on his shoulder then trailed it down his back. "Considering the way I acted last time this subject arose," she said quietly, "I did not think it appropriate for me to bring it up again. That isn't to say it should not be discussed, only that I have forfeit my right to the discussion."

Phaedra rolled her shoulder in a slight shrug to Robin. "Not quite used to the weather on this world," she admitted, "But it could be one of the other kids. Either way I'm soaked and since I was planning on studying with Cathy later..." She trailed off with a grin, allowing the implication of frozen clothing linger. The knowledge that Cathy and Phaedra were dating was pretty common knowledge among the student body, and while many of them can assume what goes on between the two sometimes it really is just studying. Sometimes. "Anyway," Phae continued, making a throwing away gesture and dismissing her earlier comments. "Hello Corinne", she said grasping the outstretched hand and being careful about squeezing too hard. "Phaedra Morningstar, but you can call me Phae."
  11. The white-haired woman's lips twisted into a faint smile at Talya's reply to Ace. Min's smile faltered slightly, however, when the former thief finally got around to why everyone had gathered for the evening. She had known the subject was coming, but she still wasn't prepared for it being laid out in the open like that. Probably, Min thought to herself, because I had resigned myself to losing him and I had made peace with that. The idea that I might not... Min quietly excused herself from the room, heading back to the kitchen for more tea and to put a tray of snacks together. She could still hear everything in the room, people often forget that her hearing was well beyond the human norm, but she didn't quite feel as if her presence would be much of a help.

Folding her wings in close, Phaedra accepted Talya's criticism with a nod. The half-demon stepped closer to Cathy, their bodies lightly touching, and gave her girlfriend a shy smile while her fingers sought and found the ice maiden's. She turned her smile back toward the adults and her face became carefully neutral. "Fighting alongside Cathy something I am still relatively new to, but also something I look forward to more of in the future," she admitted. "It is a change to what I am used to," she added, "where I come from allies are usually just adversaries whose interests momentarily align, but you need to always be wary of the knife." She glanced toward the younger blond and gave her a brief smile and nod. "But not having to worry about that from Raina or Cathy, to trust that they had my back? It felt good, more than I can put into words."

    Limber Up.

The peal of thunder announced the storm that had been threatening all day, and the sound of heavy rainfall landing on the roof of the gymnasium soon followed. The gym's exterior access opened and in walked one of the schools more popular, if not among the misfits, students. It was obvious at first glance that the redhead got caught out in the rain, her hair was damp and clinging to her skin and her runners outfit was practically soaked through. "Well," she said, twisting her lips into a faint smile, "I won't be running this afternoon. Outside at least."

Talya's attack against Cathy momentarily distracted Phaedra and despite her training she started to turn away from the swordsman to aggressively pursue the former thief. This was the wrong move to take, of course, but the half-demon was about to fully commit to that course of action until two things happened. Cathy recovered just fine, and Raina had opened up Erik's expert defense. She added more momentum into her turn toward Talya, she was already fully committed to it, but she brought her glaive around in an arc before vanishing to appear behind Erik and placing him in her weapons path.

  17. "Someone is always dying," Min murmured, tucking a strand of hair behind a slightly pointed ear. She was holding a cup of tea herself and in the brief, if uncomfortable silence that followed her quiet statement she looked down into it so she'd not glance at Erik. Forcing herself to smile she looked up at Ace. "I do not particularly care for archaeology," she admitted. "I have seen more than enough civilizations collapse that picking their their bones seems.. disrespectful. I prefer to focus on that now."
  18. Push The End to October. ... all because of a quote from The Sandman. “October knew, of course, that the action of turning a page, of ending a chapter or of shutting a book, did not end a tale. Having admitted that, he would also avow that happy endings were never difficult to find: "It is simply a matter," he explained to April, "of finding a sunny place in a garden, where the light is golden and the grass is soft; somewhere to rest, to stop reading, and to be content.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 4: Season of Mists

  21. "Tea it shall be then," Min said, vanishing off in the direction of the kitchen with a quick glance toward Talya and Eden. Generally speaking the Englishwoman was the true tea expert of the family but the ancient guardian picked up a few things over the years, besides she watched Talya do it often enough that she was an adequate substitute. It was a short time--by how an immortal measures it at least--later that Min returned with some tea for Klara and a small tray of snacks for the guests and Eden.
  22. Wherein we provide easy to understand instructions on switching from IP.Chat to Discord, including how to properly link one's forum profile with their Discord account to properly sync access roles and nicknames. Two-Factor Authentication is enabled and required on the Discord server. It is currently enabled but optional on the forums, though it will probably become a requirement for those with more expansive permissions (mods and admins). This is why it is important to have a valid, up-to-date email address associated with the forums. In order for this to work right two things need to happen. The email address used on the forums must be valid and the same used for Discord. One will have to log into the forums via Discord at least once to make sure everything syncs properly. Users without roles on the Discord server will be unable to see, speak or interact in any meaningful way with the server, as well as remain confined to the #general channel. Make sure you verify your Discord account - or the whole thing's not gonna work.

Phaedra chuckled, and shook her head. "Right, fight first, prize later." Still keeping herself between Raina and Erik, Phaedra had no clue where the older woman was, the half-demon launched another series of attacks at the swordsman. In her own estimation Phaedra knew her assault was unlikely to breach Erik's guard, he was too skilled for her, but she hoped that there left enough of an opening for Cathy to follow through. Still, the hidden one bothered her. "Raina, can you find the woman?"
