  1. Corebook, yeah. Either way, good idea to get it and Ultimate Power.
  2. On a side note, if you only have the 3e book, get the 2e Player's Handbook ASAP, since that's the edition used here, and the differences are not small. You might also want to get Ultimate Power, but 2e Player's Handbook is fine if you don't have the opportunity to get UP right away.
  3. Memorial was starting to get... annoyed. These pirates just would not go down! Seriously, how much did it take? Emily had taken one of the pirates down, sure, but other than that... And that last blow had hurt. It was by sheer luck that she'd managed to parry those two blows- luck, or a half-daze had actually made her more effective, something that rankled. She frowned. One last try, if she continued having no luck with these two big guys she'd go after some of the smaller pilots. Switch power output - activate Lance Systems A glow focused around her right arm as several holographic cylinders appeared. She pointed her fist at the second big pirate, the one who'd taken the actual swing at her as the energy focused... fired... and did nothing. "...how tough can you guys get, anyway?"

Or at least the first season was. I've never seen the second, and I'm told that's a good choice. Anyway, he's a pretty obvious Cowl in the anime, which is why he's got the nickname of Chinese Electric Batman. Unlike Batman, however, Hei has electricity powers. Also unlike Batman, Hei doesn't hold back from killing, although his shocks aren't lethal by default (and that's the route this build goes). He augments his physical attacks by using electricity, and he also has a grappling hook that he can swing around with and use to wrap around someone's limb. And then shock them, because that Tether is intended to be electrically conductive. He sacrifices some skill ability in order to make the powers work- if you needed to get around this, you could drop a language or two. Now, the character's backstory as given from Darker than Black likely doesn't work- Hei works for a Secret Society as basically a troubleshooter. Maybe this hero did that in the past and now works as a hero in order to atone for some of the shady stuff they did in the past? Maybe their former employer isn't too happy about them leaving!
  5. Memorial's Intelligence roll to try identifying that howl has a result of 16.
  6. Memorial Rolls to use her Blast against again, one of the big guys. Result of 24.
  7. Stronghold notices it with a 23! And her initiative roll is... 10.
  8. Catherine smiled. "Gruen Tanzer's sounds good to me. What time would suit you both?" She politely ignored the almost-slip by Caradoc. The owner had to be someone special to him, but she didn't see much point in pressing him on the details. Blatantly unprofessional, and she was possibly going to be asking some stuff that... they probably wouldn't be entirely comfortable with answering anyway. She did want to do this face-to-face, though.
  9. "I must admit, while it's not urgent, part of why I suggested Cape and Cowl is because it's relatively private for the stuff that'll be coming up. Champions is nice enough, but it's... not exactly a place for when a lot of the conversation's not stuff any of us really needs to go public? I'd prefer something that's not too public, really." Catherine smiled as she continued. "I can cover the bill if need be, that's not a concern. It's the least I could do after what you two did."
  10. "Heh. You... remind me of my people." Kyla smiled grimly. "Always eager to explore, to learn. To..." As she looked at the silver statue, her voice wavered. "We never had a... great enemy or figure of pure evil in our major beliefs. We considered the true evil to be ignorance, rather than a particular being. But the Communion... they fit into everything that we'd consider a Great Enemy to be. Absorbing others by force into a collective that doesn't change, doesn't learn, only consumes. A fate worse than death. Far worse. At least with death, there's one more journey to undergo, one last thing to learn. But this..." She paused, shaking her head. "There's only one thing I'd particularly care to learn from this ship, and that'd how to destroy it more efficiently."
  11. Catherine smiled. "I'm actually in Freedom City on a business trip anyway- that's no problem. There's a couple of places I can think of to meet up- Cape and Cowl's my immediate suggestion, although if either of you have one, I'd like to hear it." Mostly Network business, although she was handling a few things on behalf of her father, as well. Part of the benefit of having a public identity was she didn't have to take too much of an effort to seperate the two things. "As far as time goes... I'm here for the next week before I fly to Canberra. I have most of my evenings open during that time period, or during the day this weekend."
  12. "No, nothing like that." Catherine thought about what they must have gone through to jump to stuff like that as their first conclusions. "We are still cleaning up what Newman's left behind- it's slow work, and if you had any information that could help, that would be more than appreciated, but I've got some other stuff to tell you related to those incidents. And something to give to the both of you." She smiled, although they wouldn't see it over the phone. "But all of this is probably done better at a time that's more convenient to you, which is why I suggested that we meet."
  13. The same voice came over both their phones, as Catherine smiled. "Ah, hello there, Caradoc, Argonaut. This is Catherine Fields. Vector. I wanted to talk to you both about some stuff relating to what happened in March, if you've both willing to meet up?" Catherine was rather nervous, actually. She didn't know if they'd be willing to talk, Caradoc especially. She didn't know his full story, but... well, what she'd seen in her hospital room told a good amount of the story, really. And she wasn't entirely sure how they'd react to what she wanted to give them... but it was the right thing to do, and she did need to do something to make sure they knew that what they'd done had been acknowledged.
  14. Memorial chuckled grimly. "Heh. And leave you lot alone to do your own thing, is that what you're getting at?" She paused for a moment. "If I didn't have a good sense of what one person was able to do on their own, I might. If I wasn't perfectly aware that, oh, I can't beat them on my own. No one person could beat the Communion on their own." She swung again, directing another hit- one more powerful, this time- towards the big alien. But more powerful meant less focused, and he managed to deflect the blow, causing her to frown. "If they aren't hit by a united fleet- a galaxy working together, then they're going to win. We need as few distractions as possible- as few niggling little things dragging us all down- as possible when the time comes." Memorial flew up, facing the pirates. "Or whatever you get out of this little raid? Won't matter much when the Communion's done with this galaxy. Believe me, when the time comes to strike, back, I'll be there. But right now..." She clenched her fists. "Right now, I'm helping make sure we're all ready. And that means stopping you, however I can."
  15. Well, Memorial's going to take another swing at the Big Guy who's injured! This time, she's taking a tradeoff- -2 to her Attack roll, in exchange for a +2 to her Damage... Which she gets 14 for. Okay, that's not exactly good... Hmmm. Okay, let's let that one stand.
  16. Was the pirate who spoke to Memorial one of those who's down?
  17. Haruko looked at Vonnie in sympathy. She did know what it was like to lose a family member before their time, although she... suspected not in the same circumstances he must've, and not such a close relationship. "I did not arrive at Claremont in exactly easy circumstances myself, although not as harsh as you seem to have had. Mine was probably on the news, anyway." She sighed, before nodding to Errant as he arrived. "Hello there." After considering Sakurako's question, she smiled. "If they are serving ramen today, I will have some... I will come with you, actually. Help you carry the meals back."
  18. Saturday, 22 November 2014, 1400 It was a cold winter's day in Freedom City. And across the city... two phones were ringing. Catherine sighed as she sat in the hotel room she was using, resting in her wheelchair. Hopefully, she'd be able to get out of the dammed thing soon enough- her recuperation from her injuries was coming along nicely, although she'd likely never be able to walk unaided again. Well... powers aside. And Dad was working on a powered frame, now, which should let her fight for extended periods of time... Now, though, her concerns were different, although related, as she called the other two heroes involved in that particular series of events, as a pair of medals glinted from where they were laid out on the bed. "Well, let's hope things go well..."
  19. Haukea nodded, trying to find the right words to say. "Um... yeah, I'm Haukea. It's a pleasure to meet you both." Wait. She was eating while talking. Probably a speedster? Must me. Would explain the amount of food she was eating, too, she had to have a very quick metabolism... although the Hawaiian teenager certainly didn't intend to ask. Because that would be rude. And she certainly wouldn't want to be asked that kinda stuff herself. The guy... actually, reminded her a bit of herself. Except Kalani had always dragged her into stuff, so she didn't think she was ever quite like that. And she'd never worn a tinfoil hat. "Um, yeah, we are. You two as well? It should be fun, good way to test ourselves, right?"
  20. "Oh, well, it was worth a try." Memorial soared over Mechanized, making a beeline for the closest of the two big and ugly pirates. As she did, she called out in Lor. "My name is Kyla Han'denor. I am the last daughter of Belran, Gravespeaker of a murdered world." She drew her fist back. "And you. You're just... picking over the scraps, while the things that murdered my home destroy Lor-Van, while they try to kill and worse..." Her teeth clenched. "You fools. Well, at least we can stop you." A fist flew forwards, hitting dead center... and doing nothing. Guess she'd have to go for some more vulnerable parts, huh.
  21. Okay, Memorial's flying up to one of the big, not-intimidating guys and hitting him. 1d20+10=20 - http://orokos.com/roll/233449
