  2. Muirne tried to regulate her breathing as the other Vanguard members offered their expressions of support, trying to keep calm. She sat across from Eira, watching as a silver tendril extended from her wrist and trying to parse through her thoughts. The Shattenwelt is another dimension where I draw my powers from. Without my link to it I have no powers. I can't say what would cut it off since it's never happened to me before. She looked away from the silver tendril realising it might be rude, the fact that the girl across from her was an artificial being. That was why she wasn't talking across the mental link. She thought about how to bring up the subject without possibly offending her future schoolmate, before giving up on subtlety and quietly asking. "So you're a robot?"
  3. Muirne chuckles at Kam's comment, "I suppose if I ever need to know about other countries, or advice about travelling I know who to look for." Muirne says jokingly. As Kam continues she nods and notes down on a fresh page that the location they are headed to is the dorms. She had to mentally check herself again when Kam called the gendered dorms outdated. She was from a different time and would have to get used to the differences between then and now. She stepped back slightly to give Veronica space so as to not inadvertently pressure her into something she didn't want to do, and waited for her response.
  4. Carnifex ex Imaginatio Power Level: 7 (105/105PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: -3 Attack / +3 Damage, -3 Defense / +3 Toughness In Brief: The deepest fears, vices and evil of The Dreamer personified as a monster. Alternate Identity: None Birthplace: The Dreamer's Mind, Earth S-Omega-1 Residence: The Dreamer's Mind, Emerald City Affiliations: None Family: None Description: Age: ??? Gender: Appears feminine Ethnicity: Monster Height: 12'7" Weight: 1946lbs Eyes: Yellow Hair: Obsidian This beast stands over twelve feet tall, with a toothy maw and glowing yellow eyes. It has stone-like skin that cracks as it moves, and long bristling hair that looks like it is made of thousands of obsidian shards. It's eyes gleam with cruelty and malice as it surveys the world. Every time it manifests there is something different about it than the previous time, like cloven hooves, horns, a great tail, or fire glowing from the crackling skin. History: The Carnifex began developing first from the nightmares The Dreamer suppressed, and soon began to feed off all of the darkest parts of her psyche, developing into a creature of cruelty and hate as The Dreamer was learning compassion and love. It did not possess the cunning at that time to trick The Dreamer into letting it out, instead revealing it's nature and causing her to suppress it even as she dove further into her dreams to support the war effort. It struggled to escape the trap that was The Dreamer's mind, wanting to be free from it's tether to the Dreamer, but finding it's efforts to escape fruitless, and knowing that it would perish were The Dreamer to. It quite enjoys the new, dangerous world The Dreamer has found herself in, as the Carnifex finds itself called forth into the world with far greater frequency than ever before as The Dreamer is forced to rely on it's power to protect her, something which never happened in the Liddell estates, as the girl was never in danger as she was constantly protected. But this newfound freedom has caused it to crave more. Personality & Motivation: The Carnifex is like a dark reflection of The Dreamer, good humour replaced with cruel glee and compassion supplanted by hate. It cares not for the line between reality and dream, as to it the pair are one and the same. It craves freedom from it's mental shackles, but The Dreamer and Carnifex are too different to find common ground. It does protect The Dreamer fiercely out of a cocktail of motivations, including it's desire to live, the chance to hurt people, the brief morsel of freedom and a small amount of possessiveness towards it's jailer. For now the Carnifex plots new ways to get The Dreamer into enough trouble that she has to rely on it's power, and to someday break free of The Dreamer's grasp. Powers & Tactics: The Carnifex is large, tough and strong, with the ability to leap long distances and shrug off small arms fire. It has no discernable anatomy and is no more wounded by a head injury than a leg one. The Carnifex prefers to do it's own thing, but knows that for the most part The Dreamer only brings it out to fight, and it will listen to her direction on who to hurt, as it is smart enough to know that it is more likely to get summoned again if it follows such direction. It prefers orders that give it extended periods of activity or greater amounts of freedom, and may even accept orders it would baulk at and consider odious if that is the case. It will also accept orders to protect The Dreamer, as it will cease to exist if The Dreamer dies. Examples: Acceptable: "Take those mobsters out." Unacceptable: "I need you to head straight to this person and deliver this message." Acceptable: "I want you to hunt this person down, and tell us where they are." Unnacceptable: "Help this little girl" Acceptable: "You need to break through the defences in this building." The Carnifex can also be bribed although The Dreamer does not use this option much, and the Carnifex will always take a while attempting to haggle on the order, which can waste a good amount of time in situations where haste is necessary. Examples: Acceptable: "I need you to head straight to this person and deliver this message. I'll let you stay out for a few hours afterwards." Acceptalbe: "Help this little girl, there are people out to get her who you can hurt." 5. The Dreamer Power Level: 7 (105/105PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: -4 Defense / +4 Toughness In Brief: Interdimensional Refugee who found their way to Emerald City, Earth Prime. Theme: Just a Dream Vixy and Tony, Meet my Friends, Cami-Cat Alternate Identity: Adrianna Liddell (Secret) Birthplace: Earth S-Omega-1 Residence: Emerald City Base of Operations: Occupation: Affiliations: None Family: None known Description: Age: 19 (DoB: 13th November 2001) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'2" Weight: 140lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Blonde The Dreamer has long flowing golden hair that reaches to the small of her back, framing a pale face. She examines the world with large blue eyes, trying to discern her dreams from true reality. Were she able to stand she would be short with an hourglass figure, but lacking the toned muscle of most heroes, instead being soft. She tends to wear dresses that match to her curvy figure and are easy enough for her to put on without use of her legs. She sits on a wheelchair covered in whimsical designs that remind her of her home and the dreams of others that she would always see. Some designs that people from Earth Prime would recognise are a grinning cat, a tea party with a man, a hare and a mouse and a caterpillar puffing on a hookah. When she goes out as a hero, she dreams herself a variety of suits, but tends towards a dress with thin plates of metal to give the appearance of being armoured. She adds a split down the front to allow her to sit astride her dream steeds. History: The Dreamer hails from a world where just before the end of the 18th Century the dreams of man had come out to play, so the world was filled with the whimsical, the wondrous, the macabre and the terrifying. Over time people learned to lucid dream and hold in their dreams, but generally only held back the few nightmares they couldn't wipe away. The world changed with the first hyperlucid or true dreamer, Alice Liddell. Her dreams were physically present in the world, there were very few of them, but they changed the world. When they dreamed of flame, it really burned, and many people lost their lives as the first and second generations of hyperlucid dreamers came into their own. Eventually the world settled once more, with the true dreamers at the top of the world order. This proceeded as the status quo centuries, but this cam crashing down. The world came burning down as someone tried to enhance their own power, using some dream device that they thought would make them a god of dreams. It instead made them a calamity. They lost control of the nightmares they held within, causing disasters and monsters across the world. Eventually a strike team was used to kill them, cutting their nightmares off at the source. There was another dimension that saw this disaster, Earth G-War-3 and used it to their advantage, hoping to capture hyperlucid dreamers to use in their own wars. This dimensional colonisation was something all sides were using, and was beginning to drag many other dimensions into their war. This dimension conquered over the decimated countries before they managed to pull together enough to fight back. This was the world The Dreamer was born into, latest child of the Liddell family, the richest and most powerful true dreamers who had helped maintain the dominance of the English even with the damage done to the world. Soon The Dreamer was taught to use her power to help the war effort. As she was wheelchair bound instead they used her vast dream power to create weapons, vehicles and supplies. Despite the war front beginning to stabilise, doomsday cults were beginning to form in the civilian population. The Terminus was laying the groundwork. Already exhausted by the war effort, and not prepared for the opening of a new front, the Terminus Invasion destroyed the opposition, laying siege to London with no hope of relief within a week of the portals opening. As the city's fall became inevitable, The Dreamer's father used a captured dimensional transporter to send The Dreamer away, hoping that she could be safe, and she found herself lost in Z-Space. Quickly she made a container for herself, dreaming herself food and propelling her way through the endless void. After a year and a half by the count of the clocks she dreamed up she found herself in Earth Prime's Emerald City. She enrolled as a dimensional refugee under her given name. Personality & Motivation: The Dreamer may come across as strange when people first meet her, as she will often do and say curious things to discern if the individual is the product of her dreams, or actually real. It may take some time for her to determine if the person in question is real, but afterwards she will show that she is a person of good humour that cares for the people around her. She will often go out of her way to help people around her, providing the people she cares for with materials that she dreams into reality, like she once did in her home dimension. Powers & Tactics: The Dreamer uses her summons to fight for her, doing damage, trapping enemies and moving objects. She uses her Dream Steed to avoid being trapped while using her Wonderland Array to control the battlefield. If she has to she will bring forth the Carnifex ex Imaginatio, which will allow her to concentrate more on using her powers to control the battlefield, but this is a last resort. Powers Descriptors: The Dreamer is a hyperlucid or 'true' dreamer. While most of the people from her world's dreams were harmless, a dreamed dog couldn't dig up a flower garden, her dreams are not like that. They are fully real. She is surrounded by creatures spawned from her dreams, which protect her from harm and fight for her. She can warp the world around her, creating items from her dreams, changing the environment, moving objects, and even transforming non living matter into something else. She can fly upon the backs of her own dreams, create creatures to attack people, summon chains, ropes or have creatures like pythons to ensnare her enemies or summon creatures or engines to move objects. Working in tandem with her dream creatures she can move far larger objects than either power alone, as she focuses most of her dreams to shifting it. Her most dangerous summon is the one known as the Carnifex ex Imaginatio. It is made of her deepest fears and all of her vices and evils personified, a creature born of all the nightmares she holds back from appearing. The Carnifex rages to be freed from her, to release it's fury upon the world. It hates everything and wants to be free. It is aware, however that were it to kill The Dreamer that imprisons it within her that it would cease to be. So for now it will protect her, but that does not mean it's not willing to cause her troubles, especially as she may be forced to let the Carnifex out to save her. Complications: A Dream of Comfort: The Dreamer works to help people, donating clothes, food and other necessities wherever she can. She deeply cares and wants to help wherever she can, even if it puts herself in danger. The Dreamer's secret identity could be tracked down through her donations to charity, and will often put herself at risk to keep civilians out of harms way. Through the Looking Glass: The Dreamer struggles to tell what is real and what is a product of her dreams. As such she has to find ways to discern if people are real, and can come off as strange or rude in the process. The Dreamer's attempts to discern dream from reality can cause difficulties for her as she may offend people, or damage her credibility. Nightmare Breach: The Carnifex ex Imaginatio is always trying to force its way out or force The Dreamer to let it out. There are times that the Carnifex manages to force its way out (Switching to Summon in the Array) and it will often try to cause some trouble for The Dreamer to force her to bring it out again. Butcher of Dreams: The Carnifex ex Imaginatio is uncooperative and unfriendly, wanting to be free to cause misery and pain but constantly held back by The Dreamer, but under no compulsion to help her. The Carnifex ex Imaginatio will often refuse orders which it does not agree with, forcing The Dreamer to work without it, or come up with a deal that it would accept. Menagerie of Dreams: The Dreamer cannot hold back all of her dreams, and is followed by her dream creatures constantly, although she encourages them to hide when she is in public as a civilian. The Dreamer is constantly followed by her dream creatures, and people who recognise The Dreamer's powers can recognise her civilian identity. 6. She cocked her head at Veronica's statement of not being 'from' somewhere, but quickly understood as she provided details. She thought to her visit to Canterbury with her father. It had seemed so vast and distant from her village, yet it wasn't even a long way in terms of the size of England. Yet Veronica had travelled to every corner of the world. "I can't imagine what that must be like, this is the first time I have left England, and I haven't even seen much of that." She smiled as she listened to Kam's addition although her expression hid some worry, as she felt like the boy had been studying her, but she hadn't had any reason for suspicion of the boy. Putting the concern aside she continued the conversation, "That's really impressive. Do you miss travelling so much?"
  7. Alice looked over at the man as he spoke "Yeah, I think we all keyed onto something being wrong. We're in a misty void, with a group of complete strangers." She said drily. "I don't know about you, but this isn't exactly normal for me." She narrowed her eyes as he poured a drink from a flask, alcohol was not exactly common under the Khanate, so was that homebrewed like some resistance gathering places made, or was he deep enough in cahoots with the Khanate to be allowed booze? She stiffened as he mentioned her magic being strong, but tried to resist the reaction to not give anything away. She payed very close attention to what he was saying, noticing that he hadn't slurred, he had in fact meant thaumodynamics. Did the Khanate have different nomenclature in their programs? Had they found a way to work with both magic and physics and changed the word to match? Were they changing language to make the difference between their colonies more pronounced so that freedom fighters could be found based on different words? Or was this a full 1984 style redevelopment of the world, changing language gradually to reduce what they deemed traitorous thoughts? She was growing more and more certain that this man worked with the Khanate, and was simply too hung over to realise he was talking with an enemy. If so she could get some good information from the man before he sobered up enough. She glanced at the woman next to her. Was she in with the Khanate or fighting for freedom like her? She didn't recognise her implying that she wasn't from any of the resistance groups she'd worked with, so any signals would likely be a coin toss, and she couldn't risk flashing too many is quick succession or the man would catch on that something was off, drunk or not. "I haven't ever thought about it." She replied finally. She span as the new stranger landed near her, falling half into a ready fighting stance. She knew something was up here- That was Daedalus' armour, who had died in the first attack by the Khanate, so this new individual must have taken it and moulded it like that. And if someone had picked up Daedalus' legacy that would have surely been something she would have heard. So it was a Khanate agent, and in order to claim his armour they had to be high ranking. "If this is where we go when we die, why would you be here?" Which Khanate species was it, and if so what was the best course of action if she couldn't talk her way out of this? She could likely fly away, but if the armoured lady was a resistance member she would be abandoning her to her fate. Her suspicion hinted that she was likely to be one, since the Khanate tended towards overconfidence. Quietly she replied "I wouldn't put chemical warfare outside the realm of possibility." She stepped closer slightly, whispering "I hope I'm not wrong here, but are you part of the resistance? Cause I really don't like my odds if you say no."
  8. Alice pulled to a stop settling to the ground a reasonable distance from the stranger, her white cloak settling now that her flight was over. She stood a few inches taller than the stranger, resplendent in her white suit, sky blue gloves and boots and bronze chestplate. She brushed her black locks back from the front of her cowl. "If you know something I don't about this place, I hope you're willing to share." She looked the stranger over, recognising her as some kind of super, but she didn't know of any heroes who looked like her, and it was hard to fail to identify the scant few left who still fought the Khanate. She readied slightly, hoping that she was wrong and she hadn't just flown straight into an enemy "I'm Meteor, any idea where we are?" Secret identities would hold for now.
  9. Muirne turned ashen white, stumbling slightly as she felt the constant pressure of the Schattenwelt cease. It had become part of her life and now it had just... gone. Her stomach turned and she grabbed onto the nearest team member for support. She tried to collect her bearings enough to warn everyone but all that was running through her mind was panic. Hit sy geleoren1! She was trembling now, repeating the thought out loud "Hit sy geleoren..." it came out as barely a whisper, her voice shaking. After what felt like an eternity she managed to collect herself managing to send out a coherent thought in English I can't feel the Schattenwelt, my link to it is gone. 1 It is gone
  10. Meteor (Alternate Shooting Star) fights for the downtrodden in a world gone dark. The 2004 Grue invasion saw the aliens defeated at a much greater cost than in the Prime timeline, the Stellar Khanate used the demise of many of the world's superheroes to invade the Earth in 2007 when Alice was 3. They took a year to bring most of the Earth to it's knees, with a few places, including Freedom City resisting for some time after with assistance from the Star Knights and Lot Republic. The city finally fell in 2015 when the Khanate attacked the Republic directly, forcing them to quit the defence of the city, unable to maintain supply lines and needing the manpower elsewhere. A year later Alice developed her powers, and began to fight the Khanate with her superpowered brother as the superhero Meteor, hoping to live up to the legacy of the old Freedom League and the Centurion.
  11. Alice stood, looking around, trying to orient herself in this strange void. Habitually she raised her weight off the ground with her flight, before realising that whatever she had been standing on hadn't broken beneath her weight. She called out to the strangers she can hear in the mist, flying in the direction of the one she can hear, relatively slowly, knowing the damage she can do if she flies into someone. "Hello!? Can anyone hear me?" She knew it was possibly dangerous if the strangers were hostile, but figured it was worth the risk. "If you can hear me shout out!"
  12. Muirne's notice roll is 1d20+10 = 20, and her sense motive is 1d20+9 = 12. My rolling is fantastic, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
  13. Muirne smiled wider as Veronica talked about Janus, "That's nice to hear." Muirne chuckled lightly at the question about her mixture of an accent, "I'm from Kent, in England. The accent is because it was Síþwíf Dee and her fiancé Breogo1 Erick who taught me to speak English, so I have a mixture of their accents. What about you, where are you from?" 1Prince, Lord or ruler
  14. Muirne returned Veronica's smile, "It's nice to meet you too. From what I've seen I do think I'll like it here." She nodded as Veronica continued. "It was Síþwíf Dee that set up the tour, partly because everyone back home wanted to know what it was like. I'm glad she did, since having a chance to see what it's like here is definitely going to help." She gestured to her notepad full of directions and descriptions as she said this. "If you don't mind me asking, are you related to Janus, or is the name just a coincidence?"
  15. Alice was very glad that she'd intercepted that. Her poor breastplate now had a large scar on it from the impact. "You okay?" She threw the question back to the girl behind her, but didn't wait for an answer, speeding across the crowd faster than the rocket did, landing heavily in front of the thug with the rocket. She swung wildly, anger at the man overtaking reason, and realised that she had misjudged as her fist sailed through the air, missing the thug by a country mile, passing over a foot to the left of his head. She quickly tried to play it off as intentional as she took most of her weight off of the abused sidewalk, and glared at the man, hoping the display of power would stop him from doing anything stupid. "That was your last warning. Surrender, before I take you on a jaunt into the sky."
  16. Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Muirne thought in response to Mette's admisson, chuckling quietly, before returning to the more serious subject matter. I could probably manage in my shadowbeast form... Muirne offered. It had been a long time since she had willingly transformed, and she didn't look forward to doing so, but if it was for Vanguard she would do it. But I wouldn't really know what to look for technology-wise so I'd probably need either help or to stay in range. She settled back into her seat, closing her eyes and focusing on the familiarity of the song she was now singing under her breath as she prepared mentally for the landing.
  17. Big gun there, beats her impervious. 1d20+12 = 29 Sayeth it's not gonna be a big enough gun though. Cripes I'm glad I declared that Interpose. Alice is going to fly up to the thug with the gun and try to knock him cold. 1d20+3 = 7 Try being the operative word I suppose.
  18. Muirne thought she had been lost before, but now she was barely even sure if Kam was speaking the same language as her. She did manage a smile at Kam's apology. "It's fine, I'm not opposed to you helping other people." She waved goodbye to Heroditus as they left. She noted Kam's explaination of the gym down, "I'm not superhuman outside of my transformation, so I'm sure that I won't need those, but I will definitely use the gym itself." she said with a smile As Dee left, Muirne let her know through the mental link that if she should need anything Muirne would be willing to help, but continued with the tour. Muirne drew a small map of the gym as she passed through the rooms, pausing as she watched a girl flip through the air as she jumped across the room attached to a pair of bungee ropes, greeting Kam and Àjàṣorò. Muirne decided to wait for them to respond before doing or saying anything.
  19. Since Interpose is supposed to be declared before the roll, Alice is going to use it if someone attacks Gauss.
  20. Muirne was easy to miss among the much taller people around her. She was wrapped in a dark green cloak, below which was a white woollen tunic, drawn in at the middle by a belt, which reached her mid-thigh. She wore a pair of charcoal grey tights, and some nice leather walking boots. Her hair was pulled into a braid, and hidden by the cloak. She had her mother's pendant around her neck, since she hadn't wanted to leave both of her treasures from her family in her apartment, and had decided against bringing a knife to a diplomatic meeting. She sat in her seat, trying to quell the nervousness she felt as they flew to a nation controlled by what she had been told was one of the most dangerous supervillains in the world, who had proclaimed his intentions for peace. What was she supposed to think of this? She huddled in her seat and watched people, quietly humming a lullaby her mother had sung her when she was younger. She especially watched Eira, who had entered into a meditative trance or something for most of the flight. She didn't know what to think about the girl after her interaction with her at Claremont, especially her final parting comment in her mother tongue. She hoped that this trip might help her get a bit closer to her future schoolmate, but wasn't sure how to go about that.
  21. Muirne was entirely lost as Kam explained about how a combustion engine works, and even more so about the questions Heroditus levelled about the specifics. She was still trying to catch up with modern mathematics and science, let alone how a car engine works. "Uh, I'm sure you'll manage Heroditus." She managed a sheepish smile "But you both completely lost me, so you can't be doing too badly." She blushed a bit as Dee talked about having fun, but tried to laugh it off. At Kam's mention of going to the gardens and Heroditus' suggestion of meeting there, Muirne nodded, "I suppose it would be a good place to end the tour then, since it would be for everyone." She smiled at Heroditus as he settled into his pile of books, "I suppose we should let you get back to work, it was nice meeting you. Talk to you later!"
  22. Alice missed the Eighty Eights van as she made her way through the crowd, planning on reaching the girl who had just flown in. She knew quite a few of the people here as both Alice and Shooting Star, so she took her time talking with them, letting them know that she wasn't here to bust people for drinking their Uncle Michael's moonshine, just here to make sure noting violent happened. It was slow going making her way through the crowd like this, but she didn't want to scare anyone by flying at the other super, least of all that super. They had probably seen her approaching, her costume was rather visible being white and blue with the bronze chestplate, but that was the idea. After a few minutes of slow going she did reach the bottom of the building, turning down a soda, before slowly floating up. "Hey, you aren't here to start anything yeah? Folks here don't get lots of chances to celebrate, so can you let the minor things slide for tonight?"

  24. Muirne breathed a quiet sigh of relief that she hadn't inadvertently offended him. That's good to hear, thank you Síþwíf Dee. A small, wry smile came across her face at his admission of a lack of familiarity with technology. "I don't think you need to be ashamed around me when it comes to technology, I might be even less familiar than you." She nodded when he offered to talk after. "I think that would be nice. Where do you want to meet?" She tried to keep up as Dee talked about the car in the magazine. She was pretty sure she'd seen one like it at the Estate when she was learning English, but she had zero clue about cars. She smiled slightly at Heroditus' reaction to her suddenly stepping in. "Síþwíf Dee is my guardian, she's here to have a look around before I come here."
  25. Muirne suddenly had to crane her neck upwards as Heroditus stood, her eyes widening slightly as she realised just how massive he was, despite apparently only being a year her senior. "Uh, thank you, it's nice to be here." She smiled brightly as another person commented on Kam's competence. "Janus mentioned something about the Kam being 'the best foot forward' for the Academy. All this praise might go to his head if we aren't careful. I didn't know there were gardens here, so I think I'll have to say I haven't seen them." She saw his shift in expression at her words and a spike of panic hit, and her link to the Shattenwelt started to force itself open again as she watched him revert to a weak smile. She still had so much to learn and she clearly wasn't ready. She didn't know what she had said wrong. Her voice wavered slightly as she replied "I was not aware, I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I did not mean to pry." She wasn't sure how to respond as he began to talk about technology. She couldn't imagine, the most advanced thing she had done without assistance was find the way to where her village was on the laptop Dee had supplied her, and that had taken her nearly an hour. She realised after a half second delay that he had asked about her, and what she wanted to study. "Well uhm. The main thing I want to get better at is controlling my power, since I sometimes transform without wanting to. I don't really know what outside of that I want to study, I'm still trying to catch up with the curriculum." She shrugged lamely as she admitted it, while she tried to wrangle the link closed.
