  1. "Oh." The slightly disappointed look she gave made it clear that was not quite the answer she was looking for. "Fire Alarm might work but that could get people to panic. Like to avoid that for now." She told him as they raced between the buildings. Memories from the school tour were starting to come together in her mind. "We should head for the Admin building. Might run into someone along the way if we are lucky." Some of the faculty live on the school grounds after all so there were better odds of finding help there than anywhere else.
  2. Lilly slowed down enough for him to catch up, but she did not stop. It was starting to feel like she was on a time limit now. OK. Maybe he's not crazy after all. Still things became a bit awkward when she found herself shaking hands with Jann. Self-consciousness was once again began to slowly creep back into her mind now that nothing was immediately trying to fry her. "Uh. Yeah that's right." There were many questions in her mind about him, but now was not exactly the best time. "So...Anyway, I'm guessing you've been here longer than me. Who do we talk to about impending doom?" In a place full of teenagers who could not control their powers, she figured there was someone you talked to in case someone exploded.
  3. Hope seemed to enter Lilly as he acknowledged he knew little. Only to experience it being extinguished as he continued onward. She let out a long, exasperated sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose in a vain attempt to calm down. "Look, that thing broke through some pretty old wards. If there are more then the whole school could be in danger. We need someone with magical knowledge to fix it before something else goes wrong and people get roasted alive." She told the determined Avian, exhaustion starting to be replaced with frustration. Not waiting for a response, she turned around and started heading for the door.
  4. "I dunno, I find being turned into a charred corpse to be a worse than a few angry teachers." Lilly rolled of her eyes and let out a long sigh. The adrenaline was starting to wear off and now everything should should have felt a minute ago was starting to catch up to her. She paced a bit, rubbing her eyes. "Look, do you actually know anything about wards or magic? 'cause I only know enough to know when something is up and thats about it." She did not like the idea of going back down there after doing everything she could to get out in the first place.
  5. Lilly did not look very convinced. "You sure? It looks like you can barely stand." She said as her vines uncoiled from her hands and fell to the ground, rapidly growing brown as they were robbed of whatever forces Lilly tapped into to make them exist. The thorns themselves would break apart before puncturing skin. "I don't know. I found this weird crumbling wall marked with old ward sigils. Next thing I know that... Thing broke through and I guess you can guess what happened after that." It was weird having an actual conversation with someone, even if it was one with subject matter this strange with a boy that has wings and talons. "Look, we should get you to the nurse first. Maybe tell one of the teachers whats going on. I don't know if we can take on anymore of those things." The fact their fight did a number on some of the school property was already getting her worried she might face expulsion. She was not in a rush to return to Thornwood High just yet.
  6. The vines were ripped back and hit the floor, charred bits of plant fibre crumbling away. More was forced into existence by Lilly to replace what was lost. She jumped to the side when she was the wooden sword when flying past her. There was a bit of disappointment that it did not land a blow on the thing. Gritting her teeth, she swung her makeshift whip over her head and swung it. At first it missed, swiping the air just above anything solid. Then she brough it in with another swing and slammed it into its rocky hide, thorns embedded in the cracks. She turned her head to Jann just as he got back up. "You OK?"
  7. Rosethorn once again resorts to whipping it. Result: 15. Even with the Slowed state I don't think that would be enough to hit it. Reroll: 16+10 for the reroll = 26 Same DCs, fail the will save and Fire Monster is paralysed
  8. In hindsight it might not have been a good idea to go in fighting with a guy who's only weapon was a wooden sword as backup. More so since the thing was on fire. She looked down at her vine wrapped hand and focused. It grew longer and started to lose some of the tightness. Her improvised thorny gauntlet now resembled a series of spiky, toxic whips. It would keep her out of reach of those flames at least. She swung them around her before cracking them against the creature. It did not look like they had much of an effect other than singing her vines. Lilly could have sworn it wavered a bit from the poison. Her eyes went wide. "Look out! Be care-" She could not finish as she saw Jann sent fling into the air by the sheer force of the blow and slam into the wall behind him. "Oh no." This was going a lot worse than she was expecting. The strange noises she was starting to hear were not helping in any way. Was this place built on an Indian Burial Ground or something? Such questions would have to come later. Lilly moved in the space between Jann and the fire monster. She swung her ships once again and struck a blow on the creatures face. Or what passed for a face anyway.
  9. Kinda skipped me in the IC there. Extra long post from me then Rolling with same attack, Extra Effort from last turn is still being maintained. Result: 26 Same DCs as before.
  10. Rosethorn shall spend a hero point to power stunt Extended Reach on her Toxic Thorns. She now has bunch of sharp spiky vines to keep her out of range of that aura. Rolling: 22 If it hits, that is a DC25 Toughness check on top of a DC20 Will check for Paralyze.
  11. Lilly tried to get her breathing back under control, trying to slow the rapid beat of her heart. She was not as successful as she would have liked. She clenched her fists. Vines one again crept up her arms with fine, needle sharp thorns slowly started to sprout from it. Lilly sighed "...About as ready as I can get." The plant controller told him, staying just behind him as she peered into the doorway. Not even a week in and I'm already getting into fights with things I don't understand...
  12. Lilly tried her best to push herself from the ground, something that proved a bit harder when your arms and legs were starting to shake. "It's some fire thing-" She managed to speak between gasps as she got back onto her feet. "...from the basement. It's after me." Lillian turned to face the exit, taking a few steps back as she anticipated the thing to burst out into the open or announce its presence. If it did not there would be no doubt she would need to start questioning her sanity a bit more than she already did.
  13. Painting, sweating, straining the muscles in her legs, Lilly did all she could to keep running. She was terrified and just a bit annoyed this thing was still able to keep up with her. The fear was enough that she once again tried to summon forth a few paltry vines to try slow it down once again. Probably was not going to work but advanced planning was currently a bit beyond her right at this moment. But now she could see a door. It was the emergency door but certainly fire creatures chasing after you qualified as an emergency. Plus someone was there and by this point she would take anyones help. "Hey!" She shouted just as she slammed into the door, stumbling onto the ground outside.
  14. Happy birthday man. May your cake be tasty.
  15. She did the best she could to calm down, all things considered. This was not an idea situation for clear thinking, but somehow Lilly was able to clear her mind a little and focus. "OK. Do I take the stairs or continue running around blindly in the basement?" Saying it out loud to herself made it pretty obvious what the smart thing to do in this situation would be. She turned and ran up the stair, taking the steps two at a time in a mad dash to get to the top. Already she was starting to feel some soreness in her legs, though she was certain burning flesh would feel a lot worse.
  16. Any internal monologue Lilly had now transformed into one long internalised scream. Her powers did little in slowing it down. It was starting to become even more apparent that she was going to need help if there was any hope in dealing with this thing, but as far as she could tell the building might as well be deserted. She took a few few deep breaths before continuing her run. Only real answer she could pull from her panic stricken mind was to head for outside and see if anyone can be found there.
  17. Ohcrapitoutnowandit'safter. Was what was starting to play on repeat in Lilly's mind as she immediately picked up the pace. It was fortune she was adept in running in heavy boots. Without really thinking about it, Lilly willed vines of ivy to appear from crevices and lockers of the hallway. They started to snake from the walls, lacing and stretching across the hallway behind her as they started to form a crude barrier. There was no telling if this would actually stop whatever was comming, but it could at least slow it down. She looked back behind her, trying to see in the dark what was after her.
  18. Lilly wracked her brain as she glared at the brick int he faint light. It seemed so familiar to her. It eventually dawned on her. It's a ward. And a pretty old one too. She concluded. But that raised more questions. What was it doing here? Why would the school need this? Was it keeping something out? Or in? Lilly jumped back, nearly dropping her phone on the ground from the sudden sounds coming from the other side. OK. Thats one way to answer a question. She though between deep breaths. Her nerves were starting to get frayed and her heartbeat would not slow down. The young plant controller took that as her cue to leave now and maybe find someone who actually knows what is going on.
  19. Rolling to identify weird occult symbols Result: 24 Turns out the internet does have a few magical secrets here and there
  20. So far so good was Lilly's opinion of Claremont so far. It was still strange not to stick out as much than she did back at Thornwood High. Then again wearing black can not compete with cyan skin or being related to a Sasquatch in the strangeness department. It was oddly refreshing in a way. Still the sense of not being outright rejected by the student body had not stopped her curiosity about the place she was going to spend the next few years in. And so, she wandered. It did not take her long to get lost though. She could have sworn she saw something on the corner of her vision a few times. (A common occurrence since the Forest.) But now she could not find much in the way of natural light. She started to dig through her bag for her phone. Can't this place afford light blubs or something? Lilly wondered as she stepped down into the darkness, only sounds to be heard where her boots hitting the floor and the faint sound of her smartphone turning on. Thing could barely produce much light with a battery so low. This all combined into the vague feeling she was breaking various unspoken rules about horror movies. Still, a dangerous sense of curiosity had served her well in the past..
  21. Despite one last attempt to leave the planets orbit, Ruby was forced to concede and head for the mystery planet. A few commands were put onto the console to make sure the engines were ready for emergency takeoff. Planning ahead was something would have to do in. She got up from her chair just as the ship made planet fall. She was ready as soon as she disembarked. Golden battle scared armour and her Repeater Rile was charged and ready. Even if combat was not what they had in mind, the implied threat of violence could deter some of these people. "Keep your eyes peeled. I really don't want anymore surprises." She told the over Voidrunners. She did not trust the low tech look this place seemed to have when they can lock down a planet. Even if they clam they did nothing. All she could do now was wait and watch the gathering crowd.
  22. Rosethorn Power Level: 10 (150/156PP) Unspent Power Points: 6 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Lonely goth girl becomes natures champion Theme Song: VNV Nation - Illusion Alternate Identity: Lillian “Lilly” King (Secret) Birthplace: Thornwood, Oregon Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Occupation: Student Affiliations: Claremont Academy, The Court of Leaves Family: Julia and Adam King (Mother and Father) Description: Age: 16 (DoB: 9th october 2000) Gender: Female Ethnicity:Caucasian Height: 5'5 Weight: 110lbs Eyes: Green Hair: Black Lilly is a slender young woman with long black hair and pale skin. Her fashion sense leans more towards gothic, preferring black dresses, plenty of silver jewelry and any footwear that can add even the slightest boost to her height. In costume Rosethorn wears a dark green and black bodysuit with a red rose printed on the right side, fishnet sleeves and black gloves. A dark red mask helps hide her identity. Power Descriptions: Lilly is imbued with power from a high ranking spirit in the Court of Leaves. She can rapidly grow nearly any form of plant life she can think of from nearly anywhere and guide them into any shape she wills. From pheromone-laced flowers to thorn covered vines and carnivorous plants. She does seem to lack the power to animate or directly control them after growing them though. She has also gained enhanced strength, durability and the power to regenerate wounds thought photosynthesis. History: Lilly grew up in Thornwood, Oregon. A small town who's only notable feature was the incredibly dense forests surrounding it. More interested in fairy tales and stories as a kid rather than playing with others. Daydreaming rather than talking. As she grew older her interests became a bit darker. Horror movies, dark music and occult titbits from the internet became items of an interest and even her fashion tastes began to reflect that. Her parents were not too perturbed, thinking this was just a phase teenagers went through and she was not that rebellious all things considered. Unfortunately such feelings did not transfer over to high school life. Students avoided her at best and bullied her at worst, seeing her as some witch the town always seemed to have rumours about. It often became too much for her and she willingly hid away from people in places where they could not hurt her. Her favorite was clearing in the forest that surrounded the town. It was always a calming, peaceful experience for her and at times her only escape from it all. Things were different one day. She heard voices in the woods, speaking in unison in some language she did not recognize. Against her better judgment, she went in deeper to investigate. There she found a group of women gathered in a circle chanting with a tree-like human in the center. It started to scream for help as its essence was being pulled from its body violently. What was happening was clearly not good, but Lilly was not sure what she could do. But in the end she figured she had to try something. She grabbed a fallen branch, sneaked up behind one of the women and tried to knock her unconscious. It was not enough, but it interrupted the chant and broke whatever spell was being cast. The spirit was free and went on a rampage and the witches were forced to flee for their lives The spirit then stopped and studied Lilly. She was not sure what it was about to do or if rescuing it might have been a mistake until it pointed at her and declared. “You will become our Champion.” She did not have enough time to react before before Lilly found herself engulfing in a giant flower. It was not until late in the evening she emerged changed. She stumbled home to her worried parents, who then had their feelings turn to outright panic when she accidentally grew a tree in the living room while trying to explain what happened. Searching for a way to get Lilly's powers under control, it was not long until they came into contact with the Hero Boosters Club and then the Claremont Academy in Freedom City. Personality & Motivation: The years of social isolation have had an impact on Lilly. She is rather anxious and aloof of others at first, at least until they gain her trust. Then they find out she is a lot more cheerful and pleasant, even if her interests and sense of humor leans more towards the dark and morbid. She is happy to have superpowers, yet she frets that she might do something terrible with them by accident and feels a bit lost about being the champion of some mystical entity. The past few years have left Lilly sick and tired with mistreatment and cruelty in the world. She would rather see the world become a better place and now she can do just that. Powers & Tactics: Rosethorn does not like getting in close and personal with enemies. She prefers to use her plants, spores and pollen's to keep as much distance between her and them as possible. Should anyone manage to break through these powers hoping for a harmless target will be disappointed to find that she is much stronger than she looks and is more than willing to punch anyone close to her with thorn covered fists. Complications: Overgrowth: Rosethorn does not have full control of her powers and the plant life she creates tends to cause unintentional damage. Secret Identity: Lilly tried to keep her identity secret, if only out of privacy. Something Wicked: The Coven is after revenge for Lilly's meddling and covet the power she now possesses. What the hell is that?: Lilly's lacks knowledge about her status in the spirit courts and everything tied into that. Her ignorance could lead to problems.
