  1. Spectre is gonna make a short teleport out of the grip of the spooky ghosts!... And following that shes gonna take fatigue and a hero point as per our short conversation on Discord.
  2. "Wouldn't know much about oppressive parents." Max mumbled to herself as she sorted through the pile of assorted slacks, gowns, jackets and cloaks that spilled forth from the box, tossing anything she could find useful back in. Occasionally she would jump around the small area, leaving behind fleeting after images of herself that faded in seconds. Every article of clothing thrown back seemed to release another plume of dust on the blue haired girl. She held up another red cape for Leroys inspection. "We know who's playing these roles? Pretty sure we need to get the right sizes as well." "If you had the fangs, I think you would have been a shoe in for the wolf." She said with a smile as she reached for a dark grey robe when she paused. "Now that you mentioned it, it feels like I put most of this away." Maxine was not even sure she was making a dent on the pile on top of Dio. Then the voice spoke and she froze. "Uh. You guys hear that?" She asked after a second, finally grabbing the robe off the scaled holy dragon. Already she was checking the darker corners of the room and the auditorium for possible hiding spots. Has the old Academy found me already?
  3. Max coughed, waving off the cloud of dust motes that threatened to choke her. "When was the last time they used this stuff? She managed to wheeze out. It took her a moment before the air was clear enough for her to breath properly again. A fine layer of dust was quickly brushed off what had fallen on her black t-shirt and worn out jeans. Her eyes did their best to adjust to the light, the strong contrasting shadows gave more than a few outfits a menacing presence. She cracked a smile as each character was listed off, trying hard not to laugh. "Never heard of Cinderella described like that before." Max glanced back up at Leroy and shrugged. "I really only know what Red Riding Hood and Cinderella are suppose to look like so I'll look for them. Not super familiar with this play." Eyes were away from him and on the pile and what few were still hanging up before she could answer. "Eh, really long story. Either this or community service." Max did her best to layer that with as much sarcasm as possible. The teleporter crouched down and did her best to get the pile off the great green dragon.
  4. Max shrugged at Ashley's question and told her the room number. She nodded when she got an answer. "Just that way? Cool. Thanks for that." It was rare people gave her a straight forward answer. And then more pwople appeared to say hello and shake her hand. "Pleasure" She added with a sly smile, then frowned slightly just as the handshake ended. Max rubbed the lingering heat between her fingers, surprised by just how much heat she felt. "Oh, I should be just fine. I'm not going to teleport and fuse myself with a sidewalk in downtown Chicago anytime soon." Max was not sure exactly where that was, truth be told, but she figured the reassurance would help. And then the person she bumped into spoke. "Oh. Huh." She paused as she scrambled to answer on the spot about her powers. "Not sure. Something to do with some mutation I have and manipulating dimensional mechanics. It was not explained to me very well to be honest." A lot of what the instructors of the Shadow Academy told her about her powers went flying over her head and the dumbed down version left a lot of details out. She looked around at the assembled students, adjusting the strap attached to her bag. "I'm not interrupting anything am I?"
  5. "Just call me Max." The girl said, visibly starting to calm down. No death threats, good sign. It was now she was able to get a good look at everyone present. A puzzled expression did cross her face when eyes settled on Danica and the sizable turtle shell before she returned to Mia. "Just kinda lost here. Only got here today and I have no idea where the hell my room is." Max reached down and snatched the duffel bag from its spot on the floor.
  6. Where the hell is it? A blue haired girl thought, glancing at the various doors in the hallway. A large grey duffel bag was slung over her shoulder while her Headphones were on, blaring music from her ears. She found herself turning through the hall, distracted in her attempts to find her room. "Think it was on this floor..." Max muttered to herself quietly as she started walking backwards. Usually her memory was better than this, but thoughts of what had happened over the week kept intruding and distracting her. Much like right then when she backed right into Heroditus. In an instant her entire body had taken on a ghostly blue shade, clothes and all with the exception of her duffel bag which fell right through her and landed on the hallway floor with a dull thud. The blue girl started to grow more and more transparent before fading away like the after image of a camera flash. Max had instantly appeared behind the Atlantian, pressed against the opposite door. "Oh $#!%" She said as her shoulders started to sag and a breath she was holding slowly let out. She hit a button on her headphones and slipped them off, music going silent. "Sorry man, did not see you... There." It was then she noticed everyone else in the room just behind him. There was a slight frown from her for a split second before her face went blank the moment she realised how it might look. Her hand was raised and waved slightly. "Uh... Hi?"
  7. Name: Maxine O'Brian Codename: Spectre Year: Junior Pronouns: She/her Prospective Roommate: I don't know anyone here, so surprise me. I guess. Goal: NOT going to jail would be nice. Favourite YA Fiction Novel: Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. It was weird enough to attract my attention and good enough to keep it. Not enough books do that.
  8. Spectre Power Level: 10 (150/155PP) Unspent Power Points: 5 Trade-Offs: +1 Attack / -1 Damage ±2 Defense / -2 Toughness In Brief: Teleporting Teen Villain turned Hero. Catchphrase: “Boo’ Theme: Adios - KMFDM Alternate Identities: Maxine “Max” O'Brian, Nightshade Birthplace: Trenton, NJ Residence: Claremont Occupation: Student/Troublemaker Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Eliza O’Brian (Mother) Andrew O’Brian (Father, missing) Description: Age: 16 (June 13th, 2003) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’7 Weight: 125lbs Eyes: Green Hair: Blue (Naturally Blond) Maxine is a young woman with pale skin. Her hair is wavy, chin length mass of light blue hair dye that is starting to show her blond roots. Her emerald green eyes are usually framed with eyeliner and just a little too much eye shadow. She has an eyebrow piercing and one in her tongue along with several in both her ears. Max’s fashion sense leans towards what she calls ‘budget goth’. T-shirts, jeans, skirts. Whatever she can get her hands on that is some shade of black. Usually with a beaten pair of sneakers or doc martins. As Spectre she dons a sleeveless black and Cyan bodysuit with a matching hooded jacket with a stylised S on the back, paired with black gloves and a domino mask. History: Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Max's father was an engineer at a tech company while her mother was a middle manager at the same company he worked at. Andrew O’Brian vanished unexpected when she was 5 years old and Eliza slowly became consumed in her work as time stretched on and no one found Max’s father. Max was either left with babysitters and eventually on her own most of the time once she got older. It did not take much for her to fall in the wrong crowd and get into trouble. Skipping school and shoplifting were just a few of the things she did back then. Her mother did attempt to ground her, but as Eliza climbed the corporate ladder, it got harder to enforce it and Max always found a way to escape and do whatever she wanted. One night out on the town changed things for her. Max was nearly run over by a speeding car on her way back home. She closed her eyes and the car crashed. She was completely untouched and covered in a strange blue haze that made her look transparent. It took Max a while to experiment with her powers and find out what she could do with them. Lacking any real impulse to grab tights and fight crime, she mostly used her powers to make her escape when someone caught her doing something she was not supposed to or mess with the rich executives of the city she felt deserved it. Her rounds of petty crime did not go unnoticed and soon she found herself targeted by Shadow Academy recruiters who wasted no time buttering her up with all sorts of promises of wealth, power and more ways she could harness her powers. Not really knowing any better, she found herself agreeing to his proposal and soon found herself taken to the Shadow Academy in Freedom City under the name Nightshade. Things went great for her. At least at first. She was a fast learner when it came to tasks related to larceny and infiltration and her growing skills with her powers were enough to get into Beta group, just a step below the prestigious Alpha group. It was all exciting to her and the thrill of some of the ‘field trips’ brought a smile to her face. As the weeks went by however, Max’s attitude towards the Academy started to change. Field assignments with her team mates showed her they were barely contained psychopaths, the lessons were drifting towards more questionable subjects such as bomb making and the growing paranoid feeling half the school was plotting against her. Maxine was starting to get the feeling joining was a terrible idea. Then she discovered her teachers wanted to turn her into an assassin. The idea of murder revolted her on a fundamental level. The second she had the chance, she packed her things and teleported out of the facility and started to look for a place to lay low for a while. That plan did not work how she envisioned however. Unbeknown to her, she had a tracking device on her person and pretty soon her old team mates were hot on her trail. They seemed to follow her everywhere across the country. She eventually teleported back to Freedom City, hoping that maybe the superheroes she was trying to avoid might help. Max had a chance encounter with Corona, who helped her fend off group Beta before discovering how they were tracking her. Unfortunately, it did not stop the cops arriving who identified her and arrested her. After that it was a confusing whirlwind of legal matters and what to do with her. Max cooperating with the authorities and cutting a deal to provide everything she knew about the Shadow Academy was enough for her to avoid Juvie. Instead she found herself on probation and in a rehabilitation program organised by the Claremont Academy. She also found herself a ward of the state. Maxine’s mother had not reported her missing the whole time she was gone. She did everything to keep her shock and disappointment hidden from that news. Max is now stuck at a new school, with a new superpowered identity and the feeling she has nowhere left to run to. Personality & Motivation: Recent events in her life have left Max sullen and miserable. She is dealing with the guilt of being associated with terrible people, trapped alone in another school full of super powered students that do not trust her and part of her is wondering when the authorities will stop playing games with her and just toss her into some cell for the rest of her life. Max buries herself in her hobbies of books, heavy music, Improvised sky diving (Teleporting high into the air and letting herself fall) As Spectre though, she feels almost like her old self. She finds genuine excitement teleporting and weaving through danger, taunting villains and ruining their day. It is different from the crimes she pulled as Nightshade, but with all the turmoil in her life it feels like a genuine escape from everything that has gone wrong in her life. Powers & Tactics: Max usually acts as support, happily distracting, taunting or causing enough havoc with whoever she is facing so whatever team she is with can take advantage. Her teleporting and phasing powers help keep her out of danger while doing this, leading her to take dangerous risks. Power Descriptions: Spectre’s powers are derived from her Metagene that allows her to manipulate her position in space as she sees fit. It allows her to do things such as teleport across vast distances in the blink of an eye (Though she is not fully aware how far she can actually teleport) to phasing through solid matter. She can even partially phase through humans and machinery, causing pain or damage electrical systems, though she does not know how to do both of these at the same time. Her body is surrounded by a light blue ethereal haze while phasing that makes her look transparent and teleporting leaves a lingering ghostly after image of herself that vanishes after a few seconds. Complications: Enemies: The Shadow Academy and her old team want her dead for leaving. History: Max wants to keep her past as Nightshade out of the public eye as much as she can. Probation: If Spectre violates her probation (Caught committing crimes, Willingly leaving the City) there is a real possibility she could go to jail. Reputation: Not everyone is convinced of Spectre's turn from villainy. 10. From the books at least, Emerald City is suppose to be an idyllic city with a long history of basically being a place for super villains to hide out and retire. The Silver Storm (Which I am pretty sure did not happen here, I could be very wrong) ruined that status quo with a bunch of very active supers running around doing hero and villain stuff. Kind of like a wild west sort of thing. Without the storm, it probably leans more towards secret conspiracies. There is like, five or so different secret organisations running around there Bedlam has a lot of themes about decay. Lot of public personalities are getting old or getting emotionally eaten alive by guilt they are ignoring, infrastructure is breaking down and getting swallowed up by the mob and whole sections of the city are rules by gangs. Everything is breaking down and no one is around to try and fix things. Hell, even the supervillains baked into the setting are a step down from the typical megalomaniacs the other cities have, usually its a bunch of idiots trying to cause mayhem or wrapped up in their own mental issues. Another is Beldam has a streak of black comedy going through the book. It is so overwhelmingly terrible that if it was played 100% straight it would get depressing and unappealing after a while. Hitlers brain exists! And is quite dead, usually used by people to get nazi fanatics to do whatever they want via a speaker attached to the brain. A librarian has decided to send debt collectors and leg breakers to get overdue books and so on. Know it it lot more than one sentence, but I figured it would help somehow.
  11. While I do like the pitch, I more or less have the same misgivings as the others about adding another city to the roster.
  12. Dice roll comes up to a 14 What does Rosethorn know?
  13. A knot in a nearby tree started to change, warping into a man sized hole that opened into darkness. Inside a black and green clad figure climbed out and hopped down to the ground. Spriggans and sprites came to Lilly, crying about something devouring the forest and their description did not fit and loggers or pyromaniacs she had to deal with in the past. The sight of the dome before her did give her pause. Definitely different. She thought with a frown. Rosethorn had little idea what to do now even with a bit of experience beneath her belt. Giant black balls of entropy was a whole new experience in comparison to dealing with flesh and blood enemies.
  14. Why didn't I design a warmer costume? Rosethorn though as she slowly approached the ice sledge. It did look solid enough to hold two people, that she was willing to admit. She was hit with a brief moment of vertigo when she looked over the side. The world of superpowers and spirits was still strange to her. She turned her head away from the speeding ground beneath her towards the mystery woman. "Uh. Yeah. Dryads are not subtle when they don't have a place to stay apparently." She noted. Lilly was not sure how they would get there themselves, but she would not be surprised they would find a way there quickly. "Oh. I'm Rosethorn by the way. You?" With the grotesque displays of cannibalism out of the way, she was pretty sure introductions could be done.
  15. "I dunno." Lilly said with a shrug. "I've read about this stuff but until recently not a lot of hands on experience." "Kinda assumed you might have an idea who put the curse down in the first place since you already did some digging." She said with a quick tap on the article Jann had shown her. "But if we're this stuck, we might as well check the spot for anything else spooky. Assuming the teachers have not blocked off that part of the school." She leaned back, relaxed and enjoyed whatever sounds were coming out of the sound system. It was her first time at Eclipse and she was gonna enjoy what little time she had left in it before diving back into flame monster territory.
  16. She tilted her head. It was moments like this that reminded Lillian that English was not Janns primary language. Also that things like magic and the spirit courts were even more foreign to him that it already was to her. "Well if there is a curse on the place it would be smart to do a bit more digging. Though if ageing magic wards are a thing then I got the feeling things might get complicated fast." She looked around the room and shrugged. "I will admit this is not exactly the best place to gather occult secrets." Most goths knew as much as the laymen when it came to magical matters. "Still not sure if it was something natural though. I mean, you saw it right?"
  17. Lilly read the article and frowned. "...Well, other than ghosts I'm drawing a blank." She said with a shrug. "I mean, it could always be spirits. But...." From her limited exposure they would attempt to communicate with her, either in the language of spirits (Which she still found difficulty understanding) or at least plain English. She sighed then leaned back in her chair. "Sorry. Got any other ideas what it was then?"
  18. "Pretty sure my plants would beat you to that Bill." Rosethorn said with a glance to the ground. Vines and flytraps that were not already keeping the lumberjacks in place had their mouths open, slowly snapping below them. It was mostly for show though. Lilly doubted she could create plants that could really devour a man whole. Although the situation at hand made her doubt these men were still human... Rosethorn turned to the cold elemental woman and shrugged. "I can travel... Not that familiar with the layout.of this place though." Lilly admitted. She did wonder how this girl was recruited by the spirit courts. She seemed to have a better handle on things than she did.
  19. "Well I'll need to find them first." Lilly said as she drank her sugar loaded coffee. "Don't know what they will be like. I'm guessing they might like you if you are able to do all of this." She added with a wave of her hand. There was a faint pulse of something in the house. Perhaps they did continue existing on this planet. More questions for latter she guessed. The teen grabbed one of the muffins and listened to Stesha, nibbling on it between caffeine sips. "Haven't even thought about what job to get either. Got a bit sidetracked by the whole Nature Spirit Guardian thing." She explained with a glance at the black depths of her mug. "Its a bit overwhelming. Plus not a lot of people with first hand experience with them."
  20. Ruby felt...Robbed. The flashing lights, the panic of threats coming to destroy theses people. Old instincts set by her mentor and her homeworld triggered. She had sent rounds from her rifle flying at the vortex of space and time, a creature that should not exist. And in the end it had vanished with little fanfare. It felt more like a footnote in her history that a true battle. She rested her Kinetic Rifle on her should and sighed as the anomalies final moments passed. Echos of Zorla's words from their parting were in her mind. Promises of Fortune, glory and Immortality in memory. Deeds and actions etched into the stars for eternity. Every moment here in this bubble of time just took that away from her. One world as a footnote. It would be a disgrace in many ways and the people that taught her so much. Ruby glanced at Bliss, Roulette and the people that shared their DNA. Destiny is in your hands child, forged by your will. Remember that. "...We don't." She announced in turn with Bliss as she turned around. The Voidrunner was not far away. No doubt there was a way to escape this world.
  21. OK that different. Thought Rosethorn as she observed behind the spirit magic that kept her veiled beyond sight. The latest edition to the scene had a touch of the strange aura she saw spirits gave off in the ice forming around her. The woman herself did give off a weaker version of that aura bit it was still different. At least she was not on the side of these intruders. Lilly steeled herself before acting. "Considering you're not suppose to be here in the first place, I think it would be smart if you did." Rosethorn shimmered back into sight with a step forward. "Plus I think he's gonna have a problem with blood loss soon." She added with a nod in the mans direction. One of the fly traps was left wide open underneath the wound, blood dripping into its waiting maw. Lillian looked over to Temperance and gave her a small, awkward wave. "Um. Hi."
  22. ...Will you stop hitting Ruby with so many criticals! Anyway, Rolling Toughness. The result is a 24
  23. Taking this turn to Aim at Suul. Can't really do much inside a bubble other than grumble after all.
