  1. Done! 26 Active PC Heroes vs. 13 Active PC Villains (though at least one Villain, Dryad, is going to be turning Hero in the near future)
  2. With surprising nimbleness, Archeville leaps up onto the table where Dryad had been, away from the ivy which was bursting up out of the sinks, down through the ceiling, and even from the un-treated samples of Dryad's body on the table. With less nimbleness he set himself into a crouching position on the table, looking straight at Dryad. "Cut it out, Phyllis," he said to her, hoping that A) using an incorrect name would tip her off and simultaneously that the other inmates didn't know that wasn't her real name and in turn be tipped off to what he was trying. "You want to make the Green Man pay for vhat he did to you, right? Make him pay for changing you from a beautiful white woman into this plant-monster?" He wasn't sure what race she'd been before her change, but if he could make White Knight and his crew think she had been white, it might make them more willing to accept her into their fold. "Vell, if ve help these fine young men make the Red Man, the Yellow Man, the Brown Man und the Black Man pay for vhat they haff done to this fine country, if ve follow them und go along vith their plans, I'm sure they'd be villing to help you und me in our goals." Bluff/Innuendo check to see if Dryad got the "follow along with me" message: 14
  3. Yes, but Student Body's core shtick is being Superhumanly Attractive. As far as I know, that's not Velocity's core shtick; her core shtick is being Rather Speedy.
  4. Archeville looks to Captain Wonder, Gossamer and Rusty, "Seems as good a time as any to 'introduce' you all to NERGAL, und show zhat not all robots are malevolent murder-machines. Shall ve head back to mein place?"
  5. How is Velocity becoming more attractive? Plastic surgery? Secondary Mutation? Mystical enhancement? Dressing more provocatively?
  6. Two things about the Scientist raise warning flags in me brain. With his +6 on Fort saves, Alpha Ape's going to be able to resist the DC 13 Stun effect with some regularity. First, what's that Subtle on the end for? Is it for the Super-Strength, or for the whole Vest? Secondly, how's the Scientist going to use this to help keep Alpha Ape in check? The "Wrangler" implies that the Scientist will be wrestling the Alpha Ape to a standstill... but Alpha Ape's grapple bonus is a bit higher, and he's a great deal stronger -- Toughness +3 won't help much against a DC 20 crushing attack if Alpha Ape squeezes, either in anger or, more likely, when giving his keeper a big loving Lennie-ish hug (see Of Mice and Men).
  7. Removed Maggot (archived due to player request). PC Heroes outnumber PC Villains almost by two-to-one!
  8. Removed Badb & High Note (archived due to player request).
  9. There is no Sonic Dazzle aimed at Reflexion, ManBat's blasting the Druggie with a Blast.
  10. D'oh! Sorry, meant pookaking. Don't worry, ManBat blasted a Druggie.
  11. Herid, I've a question, which I've posted here. Nareik, what area is Dryad filling with vines? Who should be making saves? And, on the off chance that she can't hit "everyone", who are the main ones she wants to be sure to hit?
  12. The Book of Magic had an option for "Arcane Innuendo": Firstly, would this be allowed here at FC PbP? If not allowed as a straight-out switch, could it be done with the Benefit feat (like was ruled for the various uses of Knowledge [Tactics] with Master Plan as suggested in Mastermind's Manual)? Secondly, could something similar be done with other Knowledges? Say, tech-heads using Knowledge (technology) to pass secret messages to one another using technobabble, or someone using Knowledge (art) or (history) by making references to assorted works of art/historical events, or Know (pop culture) by spouting off movie & tv quotes? ("Uzani, his army at Lashmir. Uzani, his army with fist open. His army with fist closed.") And, again, if a simple skill switch can't be done, could it be done with the Benefit feat (like was ruled for the various uses of Knowledge [Tactics] with Master Plan as suggested in Mastermind's Manual)?
  13. Are you familiar with DC's S.T.A.R. Labs? ASTRO's like them. Public thing, works for the betterment of all, but occasionally some of their experiments (like the ape who became Dr. Simian) go rogue.
  14. That fails, though not by more than 5. ManBat takes 1 Bruise.
  15. End of Round Recap Players Grimalkin -- 1 Bruise -- 0 HP ManBat -- 1 Bruise -- 1 HP Nightrival -- Full Health -- 3 HP Reflexion -- 1 Bruise, 1 Staggered -- 1 HP Initiative Orders 29 -- Hispanic Woman (in front doorway) 28 -- Nightrival (in bedroom) 26 -- Asian Woman (in kitchen) 22 -- Reflexion (just outside, hiding) 21 -- Slick Willie (Unconscious? Dead? in bedroom) 21 – Heavy (Bruised x2, Stunned; in bedroom) 20 -- "Twitchy Pete" (now in living room) 19 -- Druggies (6; 2 down, 4 up; 3 Shaken = 2 Fleeing, 1 Panicked) 17 -- Grimalkin (in kitchen) 15 – Manbat (outside) Pookaking, for future reference, ManBat's Sonic Blast calls for a DC 21 Toughness save. His Sonic Dazzle calls for a DC 16 Reflex save (and then a DC 16 Fort save to shake it off).
  16. With the anger/fear of Targette replacing the fear of the giant bat-monster, Reflexion scrambled to get behind something, anything, that could block Targette's view of him. The only two things in the room remotely usable for such were the broken television set and the cigarette-burned sofa, though both would need to be moved from against the walls to work for him. There was another option, leaving the room altogether... but as he was forming this idea, a whirling dervish of a man burst in from the adjoining room, spinning madly and emitting a high-pitched squealing shriek. This distracted Targette enough for Reflexion to stagger out the front door and a few feet off to the side, out of her view. Where he soon sees two of the Druggies have started coming back to the crackhouse. Though, oddly, they're not running, just sorta... moseying. Reflexion tried to crouch down in the shadows near the front corner of the house, trying not to make any sound form the extreme pain he was still in, though he realized any sound he made would be muffled by th deafening shriek of the man-bat creature flying overhead. With some relief he found that his body still moved with the grace of the martial artists he'd seen recently. Targette soon emerged from the house, angrily looking this way and that, but she could not spot him. Then she looked to the skies, and saw the man-bat. Nighrival's kick lands solidly against Heavy, which his him right in the solar plexus and leaves him doubled over, but still standing. This leaves him very open to being grappled by the vigilante, who takes the opportunity. "Oof, I'm seein' stars... hey, I can see! Ohhhh...." As Grimalkin peers out through the crack along the two-way door leading from the kitchen to he living room, a flash of purple light seen just form the corner of her eye catches her attention. She sees that a fairly attractive woman of indeterminate Asian ancestry has appeared, dressed like a higher-end "escort" but carrying a fairly large duffle bag. She seems busy snatching up various vials from 'Twitchy' Pete's 'lab,' including some things from the refrigerator. ManBat lets loose a shriek, and concentrated soundwaves slam into one of the two Druggies ambling back towards the crackhouse. He falls, clutching his ears as he curls into a fetal position. Suddenly, ManBat feels like shrieking again, this time due to intense pain! (OOC: Please to make a DC 20 Will save.)
  17. The officer's convulsions increase, his body jerking about as if in an epileptic fit. Unlike true epileptic spasms, though, his mouth opens wide... as another one of those blob-monsters ooze out of him, and lashes out at where Catherine had been! The pseudopod 'turns' to 'look' at the street-mage, and the blob-thing continues pouring/crawling out of the very dead (and hollowed-out) officer. [[ We can use the same initiatives as the last combat, or reroll, whichever y'all prefer. ]]
  18. Rumor is there'll be a Watchmen teaser trailer with this flick.
  19. I've created a second post in that thread. The first post lists everyone alphabetically, the second splits 'em up into Heroes and Villains.
  20. Active Characters, Heroic (as of March 15th, 2009) Arrowhawk: Bowman-esque vigilante, who has a broader range of skills than Bowman but is not as proficient with them as the Freedom Leaguer. And his identity is a secret, a semi-necessity for his street-cleaning operations. Avenger: A dark, gritty vigilante primarily active in the Fens and on the South Side, working hard to clean up the grimmest areas of Freedom City via sheer human courage, bravery, and training. At least, that's what he wants you to think. And why would someone lie about that? Dark Star: Living embodiment of a dark star; and inexperienced but dedicated hero. Doktor Archeville: Eccentric Gadgeteer (Mad Scientist) hero, though at times he has all the cackling and haughtiness of a mad scientist supervillain. Is it really all just an act to keep folks off-guard? Worked as a superhero in and around Germany for several years before moving to Freedom City, where he’s still working on making a name for himself. Geckoman: Slacker teen who stumbled upon some mad scientist's tech and uses it for heroic stuff. An accidental injection mutated him to give some reptilian characteristics. Twilight Gryphon: winged mutant and medical student operating in Freedom City. Calvin Parker: Teenage Streetmage operating in Freedom's Riverside district. Quark: Young and (very) enthusiastic inventor/tech-head. Recently hired by the Claremont Academy's science department. The Scarab II: Few know that the gold-&-scarlet-clad psychic vigilante known as The Scarab is secretly freelance legal consultant and "self-made millionaire" Elena Guerrero. Fewer still know that she is the latest reincarnation of Prince Heru-Ra, hero of ancient Egypt, who last walked the Earth 30 years ago as Alexander Rhodes, the first Scarab and founder of the Rhodes Foundation. The Spartan: Aristodemus of Sparta, one of two to have survived the Battle of Thermopylae, berserker of Plataea, granted immortality by the gods and simultaneously exiled from his home. Has partaken in countless combats of all sizes over the millennia, and has fought with & for honor & glory. Tarantula: Spider-y heroine (with psychic webs!), fighting for freedom (for both the general public and for herself). Wesley Knight: Extremely powerful and versatile biokinetic who's come to Freedom City to learn more about what he can do. Active Characters, Villainous (as of March 16th, 2009) Belphegor, Artisan of Hell: Art-loving prideful greedy demon. Mostly works as muscle for other mystics, due to a lack of true arcane knowledge, though he does know a surprising amount about art & history. Captain Knievel: Truly the manliest man that ever lived. Some say that he survived a fall from an airplane, using only his force of personality to slow his decent. Strong as an ox and quick as a fox, The Captain is one BAMF, and collateral damage is his middle name! He true identity is a secret, and it needs to be for all of the crazy s*** he gets himself into. Ember Paw: Young and inexperienced Irish "werefox" working on cultivating his power and his cunning. The Ghost: Incredibly lucky “B&E” man, infamous for his ability to get into any secured locale. If the price is right, of course. Malice: Metahuman-hating human genius in a home-made Battlesuit. Has a rivalry with other tech-heads, but really hates superhumans who were unfairly gifted with their powers. Original discussion thread is here. Please post requests for additions and edits in that thread.
  21. Added Captain Communist, Lullaby, Maelstrom, Synapse, Wesley Knight, and Wildcard. Removed Poltergeist, Psi, Raindance, and Super-Thug -- archived due to inactivity.
  22. Since Jack's not posted in quite a wile, nor responded to my PMs, I'm closing & archiving this.
  23. A moderately intelligent ape with fantastic regeneration powers. That'd qualify as unique, I'd say! Do be aware that, with an Int of 6, he's going to have an extremely limited vocabulary. Like Dustin Hoffman's character from Rain Man, only... less. Most of is vocab is going to be monosyllabic. And with an Int that low -- not to mention powers that fantastic -- no government organization would simply let him go (much like Dustin Hoffman's character, he cannot fit into normal society, though his slightly-above-average Wisdom would let get aorund a bit better than Hoffman's character). Due to Dr. Simian's existence, he's going to be facing a fair deal of... well, prejudice. Once they learn he can talk, Average Joe is going to think he's one of Simian's minions (or is Dr. Simian himself, though very, very drunk). And Simian himself is going to want to 'recruit' you. All this being said, I can think of at least one way for Alpha Ape to be 'released' into FC: he's remanded into the custody of ASTRO Labs. Knock off a rank or two of his Regeneration, use it to get a Scientist 'Minion' who acts as his keeper. (Do be aware that the stats for the Scientist in the first printing of the M&M 2E core rules are incorrect, but they were fixed in the errata.) Take off 6 ranks from his Regeneration (reducing everything from "no action" to "standard action"), and he can have a Fanatical PL 3/45pp Minion (good for a Scientist with 30pp worth of tricks up her sleeve), or a team of 25 PL 1/15pp plain Scientists. I would prefer you to breakdown the saves. That is, write out the base modifier & the ability modifier. Something like "Fort +6 (+2 Con, +4)" Similarly, I'd like to see the size mods listed out for his attack & defense. Something like "Attack +2 (includes -1 for size)" Also, having the Regeneration times listed would be helpful, too. I'm getting 59pp on powers, not 61. Comprehend 2 (speak to & understand animals, Flaw: simians only) = 2pp Growth 4 (Large; Extra: Duration (Continuous); Flaw: Permanent; Power Feat: Innate) = 13pp Protection 2 = 2pp Regeneration 42 (Recovery Bonus +8 [+10 total], Bruised 3/no action, Unconscious 3/no action, Injured 6/no action, Staggered 6/no action, Disabled 8/no action, Ability Damage 8/no action) = 42 2+13+2+42 = 59 Maybe you forgot the gorilla super-senses (low-light vision and scent)?
  24. Freedom City does have an Intelligent Ape in it, Dr. Simian. He's a member of the Crime League. He fights for simian rights (well, animals rights in general), and hates most humans. There's also an entire parallel world populated by apes, Earth-Ape. Also, playing a character with an Int of 3 would be very difficult. You'd have the smarts of an infant. Lassie would be considerably smarter than him (assuming s/he has stats similar to the Wonder Dog from Golden Age, which has Int 6, Wis 12, and Cha 6). Now, that all being said, I'm all for Super-Apes -- it's one of the sillier things form comics that has a special place in my heart. But if you're gonna do it, I'd suggest got for a more unique angle. Namely, powers -- most comic apes I'm aware of either don't have any real powers, or have vast mental powers (like DC's Gorilla Grodd), though there are of course exceptions (the Red Ghost's trio of super-simians). So, go for a superpowered ape with atypical shticks. Maybe he's a supremely skilled martial artist, or has sonic powers, or growth (or growth and shrinking), or he's some sort of were-ape (a human that turns into a gorilla... or maybe a gorilla that turns into a man!), or he's mostly ape but partly something else (baboon-tiger? gorilla-lion?). Of course, the classics -- like a human brain in a gorilla's body -- can be good, too.
