  1. "It's like a Saturday morning cartoon that ran on HBO." -Our page on TV Tropes.
  2. "Like I said, I get it. One day I'm at the beach with some friends, nearly get hit by an out of control car, my powers emerge and I almost kill the driver when they reflexively flip the thing, about a week later I'm here and not happy about it. At first I just wanted to get a handle on my powers and get on the first plane back to Puerto Rico." Folding her arms on the table Selena continued, "Then I started talking and interacting with some of the other people here. I'm not going to try and sell you any sort of fairy tail 'happily ever after' bullcrap but I can tell you this, some friends to hang out and blow off steam with have been a life saver." "And for the record, my nose is far from out of joint. I'm just noting and trying to offer some help. If you hate what you're doing, you're going to live half your life in twice the time."
  3. "I'm not sure really how to explain it well. You paddle out on your board and when a suitable wave comes along you pop up and try to ride it for as long as you can," she answered Jann. "If we can't get a session of the Room in, maybe we can hit the beach and I'll show you?" Selena ate a few more bites of sauce covered pork while Sakurako explained her knowledge and some of her experiences with the school's training room. "I've got to try and get on the list, this thing sounds amazing. I can't help but wonder if on Halloween someone's ever programmed in some kind of horror LARP experience. I'm picturing metahumans fighting xenomorphs and it's going to take forever to get it out of my head now." When the gadgeteer expressed her feelings about the school she commented, "I think I get what you're feeling. Well, you've got three decent reasons to stick around. I mean, who else am I going to accidentally hurl pinballs at when you go?"
  4. "Careful Tex," she said with a playful smirk, "If you drip much more sarcasm on the floor they might make you get a mop." Several more minutes passed between the two as they worked on their respective papers in the near silence of the library. Finally she clicked her pen's end to retract the tip before setting it down and, looking her table-mate in the eye, flatly stated, "You don't like it here, do you." Definitely not a question, a simple observation from his tone of voice, his procrastination of a ten page paper, and his defeated posture when she had arrived. After a pause she added, "I get it, I wasn't thrilled when I got here either. If you need a sympathetic ear, when you're ready, I'd be willing to listen."
  5. "I'm absolutely positive he's what got the trend going, I spent a couple paragraphs on that actually. He was the man who set the stage for superhumans to step onto the world's stage after all." Selena opened her own textbook, a science volume specifically focused on magnetism, and started taking careful notes. After some comments Sakurako had made before classes started the magnetokinetic had dived headlong into her physical science classes. Without looking up from her notebook she asked, "So, what's with the licorice? And how did you get Mister Howell to not yell at you for bringing food in here? I've gotten the death glare just for finishing a bottle of water on my way in."
  6. "Ah, yeah, that paper was a pain in the culo. I think I spent an entire weekend on that one," she mused, tapping a pen against the table a absently. "And you're right, they can if you're not careful but they can certainly be useful. Hiding body language, retaining body heat when patrolling on a cold night, plus when it catches the breeze just right it just looks badass." After a minute she added, "That last one will probably need some reworking and expanding for Miss Hana, 'Capes are badass' didn't seem like something she'd accept in the paper. Might be worth the time to check deeper into the history of capes and cloaks in general." "I could loan you the notes I gathered on the subject but I'm in the pro-capes side of the argument so I don't know how useful they'd be to you."
  7. Selena eyed his papers, mostly a pile of crumpled up notebook pages and a fresh page with only his name. Resisting her first urge to go for an utterly caustic reply, either in Korean or Spanish, she just shrugged and said, "I'll do my best." With another display of magnetic prowess, she pulled out a chair for herself and scooted in to the table. As she dug into her bag to pull out her own books and pens she asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what are you working on? Maybe we can help each other." And, worst case, I've got a pair of earbuds in the bag, she thought to herself, wondering if maybe she should have just set up on the roof..
  8. Selena floated into the library, literally because actually walking after training with Alex and Jann was just a few shades short of agonizing. She was getting better at least, today she had actually blocked about one in five of Feathers' staff strikes but it was always that sixth that got her. Sighing she gave the doorknob a gentle nudge to turn and open. Passing several other students, each working on their own projects and about half were flaunting their own powers she looked for an empty table to set up shop at. When that plan failed, she checked again for the least crowded one where she spotted the young man chewing on licorice in the back. Floating over, her toes just inches from the ground she set her bag in an empty chair across from him. "Mind if I work here? It's kind of crowded in here today."
  9. "Fine," she snarled laconically, yanking the sphere she had missed with back from the drywall and to her side while taking better care to line up her shot, aiming for his smug smirk. With a strong push on her powers and a slowly exhaled breath, the light emanating from her left eye flared for a brief second and the metal sailed on a direct trajectory at the teleporting villain. With a solid thud the projectile struck home, punching him in the chest. With a jerk of her head and another eye flare, the sphere flew back to hover just before Gauss' outstretched right hand as she lined up for another shot at her opponent.
  10. Attacking Mayhem with another steel ball flung by incredible magnetic force. 1d20+7=25
  11. Stealth check 1d20+11=13 Notice check 1d20+10=20
  12. Pulling a domino mask from her belt and fixing it into place she nodded at the boys flying near her. "Probably a good idea. If we're lucky, it's just some other students we haven't met yet. If not..." she trailed off as she willed a pair of steel orbs from a pouch on her belt into the air, allowing them to begin a slow, lazy orbit around her body at shoulder level. "If not, the school year will certainly be kicking off with a bang." Taking the lead she flew ahead and up trying to stay out of the light of Facsimile's crackling form, attempted to get a better look at the group of teenagers who had just collided with someone.
  13. Selena floated a few yards away in her Claremont uniform, her cape flapping in the gentle late summer breeze, impressed once again by the versatility of Alex's powers. Behind her, spread out carefully on the ground, lay dozens of fireworks, each connected to a bit of scrap steel from the metal shop's recycling pile. "Very nice Facsimile, though we need to work on the Cannonball Special again sometime soon." she called back as both she and one of the fireworks rose higher into the air. With a push on the metal, her left eye's glow increasing from "barely lit candle" to "briefly as bright as a torch", she shot her friend's explosive target high into the air.
  14. As discussed in Chat, I'm thinking Jann and Selena would probably be hanging with Alex before the fecal matter strikes the osculating instrument.
  15. Gauss flew over the crowd and Sakurako as she attended to the wounded. She came around the building just in time to see the teleporter disable the two guards in seconds before vanishing and reappearing in the lobby. Feeling the need to take his attention off the civilians inside the young magnetokinetic lined up one of her steel ball bearings and unleashed it at the assailant. In another, much smaller shower of safety glass the steel sphere flew past him and smacked into the wall. Cursing mentally in all three languages she spoke she schooled her face and called out, "That was your one and only warning shot. Surrender now."
  16. Sorry for the delay. 1d20+9=12 to fling a steel ball at Mayhem.
  17. Selena joined the crowd in rushing away from the falling glass, taking the opportunity of the confusion to duck down a nearby alley and slip out of sight. Once she was sure she was not being observed she unzipped her backpack and pulled out her costume, a pair of ball bearings, and a domino mask. Shoving her backpack behind a dumpster she quickly donned the grey and purple costume she had designed. As she ascended into the air and the ball bearings began a quick orbit around her, she finished attaching the white cape and flew out towards the main entrance to ASTRO Labs.
  18. Selena's going to follow through on her last IC post and find someplace to get into costume, an alley or blue police box or something and then take a shot at trench coat. 1d20+11=12 and probably fails spectacularly at getting away unnoticed.
  19. Selena tried her best to remain polite but a person in any long coat with setting off alarms in the teen's head. Said alarms began waving red flags as they blared in her mind the more he talked. He spoke like he was anticipating trouble, something that she had heard from other students could be either a precursor to some kind of attack or honed survival instinct in the local population. His glancing at his watch however had her believing the former. Turning to him after he touched her she said, "Poquito English. Lo que es cabeza de huevo?" Hoping to have distracted him for a minute, she glanced around for a place she could duck away and get into costume.
  20. For the record, it isn't that I'm not here Rav, it's that without anything to contribute, since she's trying to keep her cover, I'd been letting Endeavor and Bird be the focus for the time being. Once I'm done with work I'll get a post in to join the others.
  21. Considering her answer, Selena's left eye once again glowed with violet light as her fork floated from her hand and speared into the small pile of pulled pork she had taken. After a second she reached out and lifted a forkful, saying, "Not really. As long as what I'm trying to move is ferromagnetic, I can just will it to move. Trying to do anything complex is like using my left hand. After it's fallen asleep. One of the things I've been doing to try and improve my precision is spin ball bearings like baoding balls. I also have been practicing with how many I can spin around me at once. As of about fifteen minutes ago, my new record is seven." "Do you think the simulator can also do surf? I'm itching for some waves and if I can't get to the beach before classes start it might drive me crazy. Actually, on the subject of the sims, maybe we can combine the SCUBA plan with the combat training? Pick a couple random threats, Feathers notes our technique as a baseline before starting the instructions?" she mused.
  22. Selena followed the tour guide, the suggestion from Mr. Summers playing in her mind again as the group stopped. Having new students take a few local tours is actually a pretty good idea, she thought to herself. As the young woman pointed out ASTRO Labs and their aid in superhero activities she subtly adjusted the backpack she wore which contained the costume Sakurako and she had designed. Saku had called it a rough draft but Selena was still glad to have it, especially after hearing about some of the other students' adventures around the city. Taking a swig from her water bottle she hurried to keep pace with the group, several of which had stopped to stare and snap pictures at her friend dropping from the sky to grab a couple hotdogs. Well, that explains why I didn't see her this morning, she mused as the group moved on.
  23. "Well, before the cape, my go to hobbies were sci-fi and fantasy novels, surfing, and anime. Though SCUBA does sound fun," Selena said before popping another potato, drowning in butter, into her mouth. After finishing her morsel she added in regards to the idea of self-defense, "I wouldn't mind some training in Kumdo. Maybe some sort of staff or knife fighting." To Alex she cocked her head, "Not a bad idea though I'm now curious, do you know how your power differentiates between you grabbing a rock and picking up a handful of sand to copy?"
