    Elastic Hero (WIP)

    The look is based on the spotted salamander and the fire salamander, yes. I find them both striking and pleasing to the eye. I'm really want to avoid blue/yellow, because between Claremont and Centurion, it's so ubiquitous among PCs and NPCs alike. I'm also trying to avoid the blue/orange combo that Thrude uses, or making red the dominant color like with The Scarab. I thought about going blue/red, but that feels too much like ripping off Spider-Man's look, and though I've found pics of blue newts and red newts, I have yet to find one that was both. I decided on yellow as the main color, partially because of the look of the animals in question, partially because of the connotations of yellow and gold described here, and partially because yellow against a field of black is a popular marketing choice. Yellow is an instinctually attention-grabbing color, and it is easier for human eyes to focus on yellow objects and perceive fine details of yellow objects at a distance than it is for objects of most other colors. 2/3 of the costumes so far use yellow as an accent color instead of a main one, because it has the power to completely overwhelm the outfit if too much is used. I was worried that was the case with #2, but for some reason, that seems to be the most popular one so far. (Everything I just said about yellow applies to red as well, but, again, I wanted to avoid another red costume among my stable.)

    There. I think I finally tinkered enough and wound up with a "true" PL10 build I can be happy with.
  10. I don't think you'd have to have the suit buy off the vulnerability, since Vulnerability affects the DC of attacks with that descriptor. But yeah, a 1PP Immunity with a Device discount shouldn't nullify a 5PP drawback. But she could probably still suffer extra damage from heat-based attacks while inside the suit if you wanted.

  16. Odin, King of Asgard, and his Queen, Frigga, dined at a circular table in a private garden within the walls of Valhalla, with their daughter-in-law and Crown Princess, Sif. Warriors of the Einherjar, distinguishable from mortal Scandinavian warriors of a millenia ago only by the slight golden glow that always emanated from their flesh, poured mead into tankards and served plates overflowing with fresh fruit and roast venison. When Thrude entered the garden, Sif rose from her chair and took her daughter's hands into her own. "Thrude!" She stroked her daughter's cheek, then pulled her close and kissed her forehead. "Mother!" Thrude's mouth hung open in astonishment. "Your...your hair!" Thrude's mother had once possessed golden locks which shined like the sun and flowed down to her feet. But now, her hair was black as coal, tied into a single simple braid which ended at the small of her back. Thrude lifted that braid from her mother's shoulder and stared at it. "What happened...?" Sif, Lady of the Harvest, sighed. "Loki." She spit upon the soil after saying the name of Odin's blood-brother. "Loki happened. It is not a tale worth repeating, but it is one you can hear from a thousand different tongues. Please, sit with us."
  17. Thrude awoke to a knocking at her chamber door. Still in her dressing gown, she heaved open the solid oak to reveal her grandfather's wife, the Queen of Asgard. Frigga wore a simple but elegant forest-green dress, contrasting the fiery curls, streaked with white, which fell about her shoulders and down her back. A broadsword rested in an ornate scabbard belted around her waist. When she locked eyes with Thrude, an easy smile smoothed the wrinkles of her face. "Grandmother!" Thrude wrapped her arms around Frigga and pulled her close. Frigga stroked Thrude's hair with one hand while returning her embrace with the other. "I've always loved it when you called me that, Child." Thrude's grandmother by blood, the birth-mother of Thor, was commonly known to be Fjorgynn, the great jotunn of the Earth. But it was Frigga's knee upon which the young Thrude had bounced, Frigga's cloth which had helped wipe the spittle from her mouth. "The All-Father has invited you to break your night's fast with us. Your mother will be joining us as well." Frigga left the rest unspoken, but Thrude took her meaning. And my father will not.
  18. Posting with Trollthumper's consent, since no one else has. Trying to get this moving again. Thrude will try to get a firm grip on the ship and use her Super-Strength to hold it in place. If necessary, she can put the Flight or Space Travel power from her Device into the effort as well, to counteract the existing momentum of the ship.
  19. A cloud of fog in the vague shape of a great eight-legged warhorse gallopped across the skies of the Tri-State area. Lightning flared from inside the empty spaces where a horse's eyes would have been. Thunder roared with every beat of the misty hooves. One hand gripping the wispy edges of the cloud resembling a horse's mane, one hand holding the great axe-hammer Hridgandr to the side, Thrude Thorsdottir, Princess of Asgard, rode her spectral steed in a widening spiral radiating out from the center of Freedom City. She climbed higher up and farther out with each pass, faster and faster. Searching for the source of the distress signal, her route expanded to cover the city, then the state, and soon the entire Eastern Seaboard, before breaking the Earth atmosphere entirely. Once she pierced the stratosphere, Thrude kicked her boots against the edges of the horse-shaped cloud between her legs. She became a fiery blur, azure and amber rings racing around the planet. After a few passes, the goddess finally noticed the gleaming, floating wreck spinning in orbit. She rode up to the ship, reached out to the hull, and grabbed on to what was left of the wing, straining to hold it still.
  20. Thrude uses her Dimensional Travel power to open a portal to Folkvangr, and leans on her Benefit feat to take advantage of Freyja's hospitality.
  21. Thrude blinked a few times and rubbed her eyes after the flash from Set's phone camera. She opened her eyes to see the pint-sized deity standing confidently before her. She rubbed her chin thoughtfully as her eyes drifted from his head to his feet and back up again. Then she glanced back down at her huge axe-hammer. Her shoulders slumped a bit as she sighed. She gave a quick squeeze to a wad of cloth near the center of her chest, where a finger-sized chunk of stone hung under her tunic from a simple leather thong around her neck. Over a millenium had passed on Midgard since she first pulled that largest piece out of the mound of gravel and powder that used to be the man who had forged Hridgandr, since she had turned from her father and joined Freyja's sisterhood. Her eyes shot back up, looking down at Set's face with a slight smile. "Thy wit is quick, fellow Storm-Lord. Thy courage is battle-tested and true. Thy honeyed words are kind, and forsooth, I cannot protest thy reckoning. Nor can I promise that all thine appetites shall be sated this night. But thy aid this day merits a hearty helping of mead at the least." Thrude gripped the haft of Hridgandr and slammed the end against the ground. A bolt of lightning shot up from the hammer-head into the heavens. A dark cloud formed overhead, expanding to cover the entire sky above Lonely Point. A huge blur of green pierced the clouds from above and descended slowly upon them. A tree branch thicker than the Sentry Statue, coated with oblong leaves the size of 18-wheeled trucks, bent down to rest its end gently upon the ground. "I have a standing invitation from Lady Freyja to visit her palace at Sessrumnir. I do not think she will mind if I bring a guest, especially one so pleasing to behold as thou art." And if I do not decide to indulge thy desires, if I decide to let yet another age pass without a fellow warrior's touch, then surely Freyja or one of her handmaidens will take a liking to thee.
  22. Astrid Kierkegaard slurped a raw oyster from its shell, leaned back into her wheelchair, and washed the oyster down with a swig of ale. She didn't much care for the other clientele of the Wading Way Brewery. There were too many stuffed-shirted would-be corporate raiders and popped-collar "brodudes" from the nearby university. And the food was a bit outside what she normally considered to be her personal price range. But she had to admit, that fare the other day hadn't steered her wrong when he'd recommended the "Twilight Summer Ale." Since she agreed to become the mortal host of a goddess, she was trying to scale back on the quantity of her alcohol consumption in favor of quality. She was glad she'd caught this one before the end of the season, and that she'd snagged an outdoor table, away from the chest-thumping apes dressed as people inside. She was in the middle of her next swig when a piece of the sky fell down into the park across the street. She did a spit-take onto the sidewalk, wedged her glass between her thighs, and started heaving the wheels of her chair as fast as she could around the corner. She pushed herself a block down 51st, then into an alley. She pulled a large, ornate drinking horn out of her messenger bag, poured the remaining ale into it, and raised the horn to her lips. Argh. Forgot to close my t- A bolt of lightning stabbed down from the sky into the alley, sending chunks of asphalt flying in all directions. Astrid and her wheelchair were gone. Thrude Thorsdottir, Princess of Asgard, now stood in her place. She heaved her massive axe-hammer Hridgandr up toward the sky, and a divine wind pushed her into the air.
