  1. Archeville turned and smiled as he tried to hastily chew and swallow the bit of food in his mouth. Still smiling, he shook Darian's hand, "not an interruption at all, Herr Cale, always happy to meet und greet new people! You are a student here?" He gestured towards an empty chair, "please, sit, join- oh, but I see you are mitout nourishment! Please, go, get some food, den come back here und ve vill talk some more!"
  2. I'm glad Kickboxer-Man missed -- plays well into Ghost's luck based powers. ;)
  3. The kickboxer laughs, "t'is be over too soon!," as he whirls again and aims a devastating blow at Ghost... ... and misses! The wall behind Ghost, though, takes a nasty hit; there's not a hole going all the way through, but there is a deep foot-shaped indentation. You are an interesting one, Ghost hears in his head, he should not have missed like that. Maybe we'll keep you, study you. Belphegor charges for the magnetic man, snarling. "You think you can defeat us? Defeat me?! Your command of metal may make you a match for faeries, but not a demon of the Pit!" Hellfire flashes as he claws the man. "Scream for me, mortal! Scream me a sweet song of suffering!" Damn, this feels good!
  4. "Well, well, what's this?" a growling but resonant bass voice said, "a little pup? I didn't know this city had a kitsune running about!" Looking up, the Ember Paw saw the terrible source of the voice: some sort of Christian demon! It was massive, looked to be at least half a foot taller then him. It had a scaled, dark red hide, batlike wings, and a long, heavy tail. Smoldering orange eyes looked out at him from between short curving horns on its forehead and a fanged muzzle, and its flexing hands bore wicked talons. The only clothing it wore were scarlet trunks, which obviously with a hole in the back for his tail. "I'm guessing the same call which brought me here also brought you. Interesting... well, c'mon up, then, show us what you've got!"
  5. Alright, I think I've got it all straightened out now.
  6. "Wonderful, wonderful!," he said, peering over to the café. "And I do not believe I've been there before, so that will be a treat for me, too!" There will be other treats, too. But I must be patient, yes. Jos scratched the back of his head, then checked his watch, and seemed a bit startled. "Oh, look at the time! I am sorry, but I have got to run -- someone has been calling me for the past few days, since I got into the city, and I am hoping to catch them tonight. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!" He offered his hand to Sirius to shake, but after a few seconds, whether shaken or not, he jogs off. Jos jogged back to the small apartment he'd been renting, with three things vying for attention in his mind. First, his evening jog had shown him where he would be setting up his shop/new home, a two-story building at a crossroads. There were people in it now, but that could be remedied. Second, the encounter he'd had tonight: the boy seemed useful (not to say trustworthy), and if the boy could lead him to more artifacts, all the better. Third was finding out what was causing that damn buzzing in the back of his mind, present ever since he'd arrived at Freedom. Now he was home, he quickly disrobed and changed Change! Change, O mortal form! Release the might from fleshy mire! Boil the blood in heart of fire! Gone! Gone! -- the mortal form -- Rise, the Demon Belphegor!! and flew out the window.
  7. Okay, so are you all going to follow Vigor's suggestion and go east to check the zoo, or continue going southeast? Or split up, with some going one way and others going another?
  8. Wait, so is he supposed to have Power Reserve 3 on his own (not in suit), or is the Power Control 9 from his suit supposed to be Power Reserve 9? Does he have Power Reserve 3 on his own and Power Control 9 in the suit?
  9. You mean, back out now? Or retcon it so we never went in? Hope you feel better soon!
  10. (Continued from here.) As he had flown across the Atlantic ocean from North Africa, Jos Terhune felt something tugging at him from the waters below, just a mile off Freedom City's coast. He still felt it in the back of his mind while in the city, but was unable to investigate as he went about setting up shop. Fortunately the sensation, while never-ending, was not intense enough to distract him if he was focusing his attention on something, but it was always there as he drifted off to sleep, and first thing in the morning. Now he had time. A great demonic shape soared through the night sky towards the derelict and abandoned oil rig, and touched down where a boat would have moored. The sensation grew more intense, not distractingly so but definitely more insistent. Whoever or whatever it is I'm sensing probably knows I'm coming, so I may as well let 'em know. The demon bellowed and roared. "That's quite enough of that, Mr. Ter- sorry, Belphegor," said a French-accented voice from a few dozen feet away, on the rig itself. Looking up, Belphegor could see the source: a pale man appearing in his mid-40s with a narrow mustache and a few streaks of grey in his wavy black hair. His clothing was opulent, a modified form of 17th Century French nobleman's wear: trousers and a broad-collared jackets of dark, richly embroidered velvet, with lace cuffs, a ruffled cravat, and leather belt and boots. Over this was a black mantle lined with red silk, held across his shoulders by two brooches linked by a golden chain. A gold-headed rosewood cane and rings on his middle and ring fingers sparkled in the lights on the rig. As Belphegor cautiously approached, he could see the cane's head was in the shape of a dragon, and belt, mantle, brooches, cane, and rings all bore mystic characters. "So," he said as he looked the man over, "who the Devil are you supposed to be?" "I could ask you the same thing, but I already know. You may call me Legend, and I am the, shall we say, majordomo of this Arena. I did not set it up, but I do look after it, and its guests. And now that you are here," he tucked his cane into the crook of his arm, then twisted one of the rings on his left hand 180 degrees, "I can deactivate this." The odd sensation was completely gone. "What, you lured me here to-" "To make sure you were aware of this place, nothing more, nothing less," Legend said as he put the cane back in his hand. "My associates established the Arena to be neutral territory for all of an... extralegal and antisocial inclination, a place for all to meet and greet, to circulate news and rumors, to plan jobs, to test and work and train in secret, or just work off some steam in a place that would not attract undue attention from the local constabulary." "Interesting," Belphegor said, stroking his chin. Shame this form can't grow a goatee. "But how do I know you're telling the truth? That this isn't some elaborate trap?" "Ask around, talk to folks, do some research. It shouldn't be that difficult for someone of your skill and educational background." "What?" "Oh, look," he said, turning to see another visitor, "another one's come. Excuse me." And with that, he vanished. [[ OOC: I'm assuming Legend has some ability to know about the villains and to appear in a form which would impress them (while also looking somewhat sinister). So to Belphegor, he appeared as a French Satanist; to Ember Paw, he may appear as an elder Druid whose hands are stained with blood. ]]
  11. Some changes to Belphegor. First, I'd like to increase the intensity of his Vulnerability to holy attacks from minor to moderate (+50% or x1.5 modifier). As his demonic power grows (as it did last time when I increased his Demonic Attacks array), the demon-ness in him grows, and so he reacts more violently to holy attacks. His human 'skin,' though, does still protect him from 'environmental' holy attacks (i.e., he can set foot on holy ground, even in demonic form, and be no worse for wear). This will bring him to 7pp in drawbacks, the max for his PL. With that 1pp, and the 1pp I earned for him for August, I'd like the two following feats: Connected Equipment (HQ) His HQ is thus: Updated by V_M
  12. Sorry, been sorta swamped with things and this fell off my radar. If you are still interested in playing this guy, we can look over him again.
  13. First suggestion: please use the proper format Suggestion 1.5, tell us what's he Immune to. Second solution: give him an actual background, history, and motivation ;)
  14. Welcome to the board! Please feel free to introduce yourself in the "Secret Identities" thread (link in my .sig). As for your character's backstory, it's good, but a touch grimmer (and Noir-ier) than we typically get around here. Butt he part at the end where he starts turning his life around does definitely bring it back to the sort of character we usually see. So that part's cool 8-) The part that's not so cool, though, is is stats. Specifically, the format you used in his powers. (His Gun is especially confusing.) Please use the format described in the Game Rules thread. A few more things on the powers: * What is the "special" sense for his Uncanny Dodge? What can block it? * Why is his Probability Control (and associated effect) Innate? "Innate" is for things that are an inherent part of a being's nature, like an Elephant's Growth. * It appears he has Deflect 8 (all ranged attacks; Extras: Automatic, Action 3/Reaction). That's 56pp (Deflection doesn't need the Duration extra.) But Probability Control 10 is 40pp, so the Deflect cannot be an Alternate Power of it (since APs must have a cost less than or equal to the base effect). * Defensively, he's PL 4 (Defense 3 + Toughness 5), and Offensively he's PL 6 (Attack 5 + Snare 7). Even with all his luck, that's fairly low.
  15. Folks with Attractive, definitely, and, well, whatever the Ref overseeing your game decides. Like I said, could be a painting, a sculpture, etc..
  16. Actually, yes. Well, sorta. In D&D 3E/3.5, one book actually did give stats for alcohol. I incorporated it into an article I wrote for an ezine (for M&M 1E). Best way I can think to simulate alcohol is Drain (all ability scores at once; Extra: Poison; Flaw: Limited to Dexterity and Wisdom only; final cost 3pp/rank). Rank is determined by how strong you want your effect to be: wines click in at 1-2, beers at 1-3, and spirits 1-5 (and you can of course always go higher: it's magic, after all ). If you wanted to be really nasty, you can also add a Linked Drain Constitution effect (alcohol poisoning; Extra: Poison; Flaw: Only affects characters who've had both their Dex and Wis drained to 0). Or you can go with Confuse.
  17. It turned out we didn't get hit as harshly as the weather folks were predicting. No power loss, no felled trees. 'Course, no we're keeping an eye on Ike.
  18. In Bram Stoker's Dracula, sunlight wasn't a major problem: it didn't do any damage, it just robbed Dracula of his supernatural powers. The "obsession with beauty" thing makes me think of the Toreador vampires from White Wolf's Vampire: the Masquerade. They were so obsessed with beauty (be it a person, a painting, a song, or whatever) that they would actually become entranced by beautiful things when first seeing it, standing in still fascination. If you were interested in going that route, she could have a drawback "Weakness (beauty, stunned for one round by losing an opposed Charisma check; common, moderate, 4pp)"
  19. Jos nods when Sirius mentions sitting down to discuss the finer points. "Oh yes, yes, certainly! Perhaps... over lunch? There are so many good places to eat around here, and I have just had time to sample a few." He pats his stomach and laughs, "though if I go to too many, I will need to do more jogging!" That's right, keep it light, we're all friendly here. No one's going to bite your head off. When Sirius mentions an object, Jos's mood gets slightly, though noticeably, more serious, more no-nonsense. "Oh? Well, I must confess that my knowledge of Gaelic language, ancient or modern, is fairly non-existent; I'm limited to English, French, and Dutch. Not to say I know nothing of Gaelic culture and history, though: it is not one I devoted a great amount of my studies to, but I am passingly familiar with the major points. But, not knowing the language would be a big impediment." Don't come across as too knowledgeable, he may try and pump me for more information. He has something I want, I can get something he needs, so let's dance a bit longer. Jos snaps his fingers, "I'll tell you what I can do, though: give me a couple of days to get in touch with some of my contacts and see if I can find anyone in the city who might could decipher it. Of course, it would be useful to be able to give them a sample of what they would be deciphering," he sensed Sirius tensing up, "so if you could provide, say, a photograph of a section of the writing, that would help me be better able to track down a translator with the appropriate skills. You could present me the photos when we next meet, when we discuss 'the finer points' of working with me, and with luck I can get a meeting with a translator set up within a week."
  20. Completely understandable; Real Life should come first, and sleep is very important.
  21. Nightrival cannot use Instant Counter -- he has no mental powers with which to counter the mental whammy that's hitting him. (And even if he did, you'd still need to roll to see if you can counter, d20 + you power's rank vs. d20 + the villain's power's rank.)
  22. You still need to actually roll the re-roll -- spending an HP lets you re-roll (and add 10 to the result if the re-roll comes up less than 11), it doesn't let you just negate the effect.
  23. *bump* I think a few players of our villains may not have heard of this. And I definitely think it's something to keep players aware of: it's usually very easy for heroes to do the "meet and greet" thing, but villains tend to have a harder time of it.
  24. Locked & archived due to all characters being archived and players missing/departed.
