  1. And while I'm here, may as well add that I may not be on much this weekend, as tropical storm Hanna is headed my way, and may strengthen to a true (though low-grade) hurricane. Most predictions say my part of the state should just be brushed by the storm, but predictions have been wrong before.
  2. 20,948 posts! 1,143 topics! 163 members! (though of those, 60 have made no posts, so it's more like 103 members...) 130 member/player-made characters! (yeah, over 3/4s of those -- 105 -- are inactive & archived, but it's still an impressive number of characters! That's more than all the statted characters in the Freedom City campaign setting book!)
  3. Added Arrowstar. Archived NeuroLogic (per player request). 17 Active PC Heroes vs. 8 Active PC Villains. And as always, if you'd like some change made to your character's description in the Active PCs List changed, please don't hesitate to tell us.
  4. Well, pooh. Hope things go easily for ya, and we hope to see ya again. I had fun for the little time we got to interact :)
  5. "Nothing seems to be broken or torn," he says, smiling as he brushed himself off, "so I suppose I am alright." He then extended a hand, "I am Jos, Jos Terhune [yos tare-hoon]. You... are not from around here, no? I am new to the area myself, just came over from the Netherlands a couple of days ago. I am an art appraiser, antiques and objects d'art are my passion." He knelt down to check his running shoes, making sure they were still secure, "though I'm sure a young man such as yourself would find such pursuits immensely boring." That's it, tell him just enough to gauge his interest, see if the little fishy nibbles. Maybe this is some punk raver kid, maybe he's something more. Maybe he'll even show me that little glowing thing. Precious, precious thing. Yes, yes, calm, calm, mustn't get too excited. At least, not yet.
  6. Pretty much the same as a tabletop game. You make your Diplomacy check and tell the GM/Ref what (in broad terms) you would like, and the GM'll determine what you get based (for the most part) on how well you rolled.
  7. Archeville takes a few steps forward, still behind White Knight but better able to see the guards. "I vould do as he says, gentlemen," he said in what he'd hoped was a fairly even blend of 'commanding tone' and 'pleading tone', "dere are already a goodly number of hostages here."
  8. Jos Terhune had been jogging for almost a half hour around and through Riverside. Not only am I working off those last three slices of tiramisu, I'm starting to get a pretty good lay of the land around here. So many restaurants and shops! I'm certain now that this is where I'll set up my own little shop. I've just got to narrow down where it'll go! Of course, I'll need some things to fill it with, but between my connections and contacts in the black market, the few items I liberated from Marrakesh, and some magic from my 'partner', that shouldn't be much of a problem. Rounding a corner, he saw a young man stowing a faintly-glowing item into his pocket. Well, well, what's this? A kid out on a rave? Or a precious thing? No, no, don't want to change here -- too much risk of losing my 'secret identity,' and I certainly don't want any hero-types showing up. Besides, he may know something of value, or even make a useful pawn. Heh, a pawn for my pawn shop! Now, how to... ah, of course. Just as Sirius put his book away, a 30-something jogger collided into him. Sirius was able to keep on his feet, but the jogger fell flat to the ground. He soon got to his feet, but seemed more concerned with Sirius' welfare than his own, not even pausing to brush himself off. "Oh, my, I hope I didn't hurt you, young man!" His semi-German accent marked him as a foreigner to this country.
  9. Do be aware that, since PL caps are "Hard" caps, she can only have up to Attractive 3 (for +12 to Bluff & Diplomacy). Strictly by the rules, she can't have more and just not use some of the bonus. As she gains PL she can gain more Attractive, though that would of course take some explaining ;)
  10. Both are good Not useless at all! The total skill modifer comes from two things: skill ranks and the associated ability score modifier. The most ranks you can have in a given skill is (PL+5), or 15 ranks for a Pl 10 character. The maximum modifier you can have from ability scores is (PL+5) (at least, for Dex, Int, Wis, and Cha). So she could have a maxed ability modifier (+15 from Cha 40) and maxed ranks in, say, Diplomacy (15 ranks) for a total Diplomacy skill modifier of +30. Killing is a definite rarity here, as rare as combat is common. "She's not a fighter" is certainly not an invalid part of a character concept, I just wanted to make sure you were fully aware of the ramifications. Donlad Trump's net worth is approximately $3 billion. This is nothing to sneeze at... but he's not even at the bottom rung of the top 100 wealthiest people on Earth (the lowest person there is worth three times what Trump is; the wealthiest is worth over 20 times what Trump is!). Wealth being a somewhat abstract thing in M&M, there isn't really a handy chart (that I know of) saying "you're worth this many million/billion at this level of Wealth." (One might could be reverse-engineered from the Wealth charts in D20 Modern and its associated supplements.) Best there is is what the book says: Benefit/Wealth 1 makes you Affluent, Benefit/Wealth 2 makes you low-end Wealthy, Benefit/Wealth 3 makes you high-end Wealthy, Benefit/Wealth 4 makes you mid-level Rich, Benefit/Wealth 5 makes you high-end Rich, and Benefit/Wealth 6 or more makes you "Filthy Rich."
  11. That book is actually the perfect thing for Jos/Belphegor, since he'd like to expand his powers and be more than just a "bruiser"/lackey for true sorcerers. ;)
  12. I don't believe we're using the "Staged"option for Mind Control, so I'm not sure that Flaw would be allowed. More importantly, I'm not sure "Limited to Pure people/Heroes" would be a valid Flaw -- Limited tends to mean limited to something concrete, easily identifiable. As Silver Age-y as we try to keep the place, there are some characters (both PCs and officially published characters) who are neither pure "White Hats" nor pure "Black Hats." And what of the millions of non-powered shlubs who just try and make it through the day? Given her background, why not have it be Limited to people whose blood she has tasted? That's a semi-classic flaw to vampiric emotion- and mind-control. I'm not sure this works, either. A weakness is "you suffer harm from something normally harmless to others (normal people)"... but everyone would be harmed by having a sharp wooden object in their heart! I'd suggest taking a Vulnerability to blessed, silver, and wooden weapons instead (a common frequency, since folks who face her will probably assume she's some sort of vampire and will bring anti-vamp weapons to future encounters). Keeping with the Bathory/Vampire thing, a Weakness to Sunlight would be appropriate: besides being a bane to vampires, it's also a cause of premature aging/wrinkles, something she'd want to avoid. Also, be aware you cannot have more points in Drawbacks than your PL, so the most a PL 10 character can get from drawbacks is 10 points.
  13. Well, that's all well and good, in theory at least, but there's a few snags: * She should have some Minions, some allies she can always count on to do her dirty work. * With no ranks in any Interaction skill (like Diplomacy), she'll be relying on just her Charisma. With a +15 modifier, on average (25) she can make Hostile folks Indifferent (and with a bit more work, from Indifferent to Helpful)... but that presumes you can even get them to hear her out in the first place (assuredly not an option for, say, robots or zombies). And Interaction Skills only work against NPCs, not PCs. * Most importantly, your character is going to get into combat, in some way, at some time -- heroes will trace her through her captured flunkies, enemies from her past (see below) will show up on her doorstep, etc.. A typical PL 6 character would have no problem taking her out. And while being taken out by a relatively low-powered (and possibly inexperienced) hero would give her more reason to hate those meddling supers... is it really something you want to have happen in every fight she'd get into? Even Lex Luthor has some combat ability. * Lastly, think on this: is the character as you have her described truly the type of character someone would play at a more traditional tabletop game? Or is it the type of character which would be more typically used as a GM-controlled NPC? Not a problem, per se (even the FC Campaign Setting book suggests having a PC or other GM-made character be the wealthiest in the city), but it is going to take a lot of background stuff to explain how she's approximately as wealthy as some folks who've been amassing wealth for thousands of years. If it's inherited, how did the folks she got it from acquire it in the first place? And if it did all come from inheritance, there's probably going to be other things she's inheriting, to, like enemies from their past. That... doesn't really address the issue. Why would her home have significantly better security than the Freedom League's and Overshadow's HQs? Be sure to check the Freedom City Encyclopedia for more info on some of these people & organizations.
  14. Numbers look like they add up, and enough Refs seemed okay enough with the Dimensional Movement thing to let it pass, so here's your first approval.
  15. And even with super-names, it certainly happens in comics -- how many "Captain Marvels" does the Marvel Universe have? How many Flashes and Green Lanterns and Doctors Mid-Nite/Midnight and Misters Terrific does DC have? Then again, those tend to be Legacies, so it'd probably be best to ask the player first and see about tying your character's backstory to theirs.
  16. ">," he replied as he sat. It struck Wilhelm just how young Viktor looked: his bios say he is 30, and working for the past decade as he has as a superhero almost always takes some toll on a person's appearance, but this man seemed as young and fresh as many of the undergraduate students here. Of course, taking a look with his special senses, he could tell exactly why that was. ">" For a moment, he truly does look weary. And then he snaps right back, ">" He paused to take a sip of tea, ">" Another pause, another sip, ">" ">" he said with a laugh and a smile, then set about cutting the sausages on his plate into bite-sized chunks. ">"
  17. Archived Gossamer and Grimalkin (per player request, though Grimalkin will be NPCed by Heridfel for a little while). We're now at 16 Active PC Heroes vs. 9 Active PC Villains.
  18. I've a feeling more than a few folks are busy with schoolin' about now ;)
  19. We tend not to look at characters until there's a background/history and description of them, justification for the stats (like her incredibly high mental ability scores). Those make the character a character, and not just a bunch of numbers A few pointers, though: * With an Attack, Defense, Toughness, and damage-dealing ability all of 0, she's going to be in for a world of hurt when she gets into any sort of combat. Especially if she's not at all the stealthy type. * With Benefit 7 (Wealth 7), she'll be one of the richest people on the planet. * With Security System 6 on her HQ, that'll be a DC 45 Disable Device check to break in. That's... very high. Though, being an old castle (I'd presume), I'm guessing there'd be enough cracks and holes and whatnot for liquid- or gaseous-form beings to enter (not to mention energy beings, truly incorporeal critters, and teleporters). Complications are valid, I'd say: one's a form of racism, one's a form of extreme pride.
  20. In case y'all have not yet seen, Heritage has officially left, leaving us Gossamer-less.
