  1. And here be the OOC thread. I don't know if Nightrival & Hub know each other's secret identities, so I tried to leave my post somewhat vague so you two can proceed accordingly. Characters (Players) Hub (Heridfel) Nightrival (Shadowboxer) Arrowhawk (Ecalsneerg) Red Star (Geez3r) Shade (Tohotai) The Spartan (Bendisgeidfran ["Bran"])
  2. Date: September 9th, 2008 (a Tuesday). It's a nice summer Saturday afternoon in Hanover. A light breeze blows down the streets, and the sky is nearly cloudless. The sidewalks are full of people walking about, some with clear purpose, others just enjoying a stroll or a conversation. On occasion, something unusual -- an exotically attractive woman with fine scaly skin, a man with clownfish-orange skin, a child walking on air next to its mother -- reminds everyone that this is Freedom City, home to perhaps the highest concentration of "superhumans" on the planet. Only some of the people stare at these unusual folks, and most of the ones who do are clearly tourists. All this tranquility is shattered as a large bin full of CDs goes hurtling out of one of the electronics shops along the street. Moments earlier... Liam Callaghan and Kevin Malone had come to WAA -- Wilmington Avenue Audio, a small but popular store for music lovers. They'd come to pick up some hard-to-find CDs, which apparently no one else in the city had; Liam had also heard some rumors that the building served as a drug den (for things harder than plain marijuana), and wanted to check the area out. Liam was already at the register, making his purchase and chatting with the teller, but Kevin was in more of a "hey, let's see what's over in this bin" mood, looking over new and used CDs. "But I want dat one!" a loud gravelly voice cried, heard even over the assorted samples of music playing in the store. Turning to see what the ruckus was, two people in trenchcoats and fedoras could be seen at the back of the store, turned so their backs were to everyone else. One was small and slim, with long red hair reaching to the middle of (his? her?) back; the other was huge (over seven feet) and bulky, with no visible hair. "You said I could have one, whichever one I wanted!" the loud voice continued. The other spoke, almost as loud yet definitely softer and feminine. "Yes, but don't you want something different? You already have three copies of this CD!" "Nun-unh! I got t'ree diff'rent CDs. Dis one's number four!" "But... but they're all the same!" "No! No, dey're not!" "Okay, okay, fine, fine, just... just calm down, Ernie. Okay, here, here, take your CD and we'll go." A pause as the giant looks down at the disk handed to him. Then, "No! Dat's not da right one! RARGH!" Perhaps the redhead made an honest mistake and handed him the wrong disc by accident; they're far away, it's impossible to tell. Perhaps it was the tone of her voice, or a look she gave him. Perhaps he's just ill. Whatever the case, the large man was now picking up one of the large bins of CDs and hurled it towards the register, smashing out through the window and to the street outside.
  3. The Cha modifier is off. It should be "Cha: 20 (+5), 30 (+10) w/ Amulet" The header should read "Skills: 44r = 11pp" And as I pointed out above, he modifier for his Charisma is off. The skills should be "Diplomacy 12 (+22)" and "Intimidate 4 (+14)". Also, SEnse Motive is based on Wisdom, not Charisma; it would be "Sense Motive 8 (+10)". First off, there's only 21 points worth of effects in the Amulet -- too much for Device 4 (which only grants 20 points). Also, Device 4 (PF: Indestructible) would cost 17pp, not 16. As for becoming fatigued if the amulet's removed... it'd be a Drawback, probably Uncommon frequency (how often do you foresee him losing his amulet?), but I've no idea on the intensity. I'll ask around.
  4. The demon's grin turned very wide, and his forked tongue snaked out again over his lips. "Reeeally? How very, very interesting. I like you, pup, yes indeed. I've a feeling we'll be meeting again. Many, many times. As for tonight, though...." The demon again spread his mighty wings and began to flap them, rising into the night air. Oddly, the winds blowing off them smelled not just of brimstone (i.e., sulfur), but also faintly of... excrement? "... I hear someone at a crossroads, calling out! And who am I to refuse such a summons?" The demon's booming laugh echoed as he flew off towards the city, his form swiftly swallowed up by the city's lights. Damnit! I never did learn that pup's name! (Continues here.)
  5. Archeville walks in to the armory, head up, looking straight ahead. As he goes, he says, softly, "Ich bin traurig. Ich bin sehr traurig. Ich bin ein schaf in der kleidung eines wolfs." "What's that? What'd you say?" one of White Knight's brothers shouts. "Ist bin taugen," he calls behind him to White Knight's men, "Ist bin sehr taugen. 'It is suitable, good, it is very suitable'. Ich bin in der shaffen kleben zu sie in voll: 'I have in war become stuck to them fully'. Apologies, vhen I get excited I tend to slip back into mein native tongue." Looking around the armory quickly, he finds his belt and 'screwdriver.' "I vill need a moment," he calls out, "to make sure dese men haff not broken mein gear. De last time I handed mein equipment to someone, it took me a veek to get it back vorking to unscramble de mess dey made by trying to examine it." Archeville makes a show of checking his gear, while darting his eyes about in search of a power damper control panel, or a comm system. [[ See OOC thread for Bluff/Innuendo check result. ]]
  6. Yes, it applies everywhere. In M&M 2E, skills cost 1pp per 4 ranks. Yes, I'm flogging myself for not having noticed this earlier.
  7. Ah, what you need, or what you want? Just what are you hiding, Tin-Man? "Oh, it's a rare person indeed who truly considers himself a villain -- rationalization is something you mortals are so very good at." "And you, pup?," he asks, stepping a bit to the side so he can see both Icarus and the fox-boy. His tail swished back and forth behind him, like a slightly agitated serpent. "You said you're a hunter -- well, what do you hunt? People? Riches? Power?" Perhaps it would be best not to attack these two -- no point in ruining perfectly serviceable agents. Besides, I know other places I can vent my fury.
  8. I'll leave that to MarkK -- if Emissary just wants to do one-on-one, that's fine.
  9. I'd like to do one eventually with Doc. He's not done any real patrolling, and he would like to hang out some more with Emissary. But Doc can wait ;)
  10. "Self-taught, eh?," he says with a clearly impressed tone in his voice. "Most impressive. I vould, however, advise on not skipping college: even if you feel dere is nothing dey can teach you, you may be surprised at de lessons you can pick up. I learned qvite a bit in mein years here, both in de class und outside." He leans over slightly to pick up the PDA, and speaks a bit softer to Darian, "if nothing else, it teaches you proper time und resource management, und some truly critical social skills. Who you know can be as important as vhat you know" Picking up the item, Archeville sits straight back up, holding it in one hand and his cup of tea in the other. He looks the device over, turning it this way and that. "Hrm, nice lines, sleek, lightveight... dough, just vhat do you mean, 'like a babelfish for machines'? Ist ein universal translator?"
  11. Alrighty. Do you have a little one- or two-sentence description you'd like to use for the Active Characters list, or shall I make something up? ;)
  12. Technically, no (it'd be 100% on-topic, in fact), but doing so might make the thread blow up to ginormous proportions. One alternative could be to fill it out and send it to me (since I'm the one who started this), and it can be added on to your character sheet, or you can add it to your character's thread in the FC News Forum.
  13. Not necessarily: she could be a very nasty "smash and grab" type. Sure, she doesn't require much (in the way of food and shelter and so on), but she can still be a greedy (not-so-)little so-and-so in search of decadent comforts. Maybe she even gets the idea to kidnap scientists to 'cure' her (starting out semi-tragic), but later realizes she likes her powers a lot and instead tries to find scientists who can make her smarter. And there is always the "Minion of Another Villain" angle -- and since this is largely a player-run board, you get to determine the NPC villain and what s/he wants you to be doing! Oh, minor thing, the "Homeless" drawback should be "Destitute and homeless" (Wealth 0).
  14. Just a description, I'd say. Unless, of course, the trophies are useful items or have some other effect, in which case you'd need the Power feature. Yes. Oh, you want an actual, useful answer. Fine.... Midtown and Parkside (both in Downtown Freedom), North Bay (in North Freedom), and Port Regal (in South Freedom).
  15. That'd work, too. Like traditional "bad luck" items (black cats, broken mirrors, on Friday the 13th [or Friday the 17th if the character identifies as being Italian], et cetera)?
  16. "Villainess" is the correct term And the hero-types do outnumber the villain-types by about 2:1 here, so a few new baddies could be welcome. Then again, since one of the board's two Heroic Flying Powerhouse-types has recently departed, another one wouldn't be unwelcome. Basically, you should play whatever you want to play So, did you mean scrapping this character and submitting a different PL 10 character as a villain, or altering Ionica's background & such so that she is a villainess? If the former, that's fine; if the latter, that's fine, too, but I would have to rescind my approval until I had a chance to read over and contemplate her new background.
  17. Either, both. Or as Power (Enhanced Feats 1 [Ritualist]). Yes. Yes, since it's a Knowledge check. Yes.
  18. Are these two really what passes for villains in Freedom City? If so, the reports I've heard are grossly exaggerated. Though this Icarus guy could be packing some serious firepower in that suit. "Thought it was a good name, eh? Shame, I could've offered to fix any disfigurements." He held out his right taloned hand and the dark fiery aura 'flowed' into his hand and formed a roughly baseball-sized image of a badly burned and scarred face. He passed his left hand over it, and the face became healed and unblemished. After a moment, he closed his hand into a fist, snuffing out the flame-image. "Well, what's in a name anyway, right? That which we call a baby by any other name would taste as sweet," he says, licking his lips and fangs with a forked tongue. "As for myself," he drew himself up, spread his wings wide, and re-ignited the aura of dark flames, "I am Belphegor, the Dark Muse, Artisan of Hell!" He lowered his wings back down so they wrapped about him like a cloak, but his dark (hell?)fire aura stayed. "As I told the pup over there," he pointed to Ember Paw with a thumb, "I readily owe up to being a Bad Guy. So what about you? I'm guessing that armor's got some power in it: what do you do with it?"
  19. *bump* Thought some of the newer folks might like to see this. ;)
  20. Nasty guy Skills are 4 ranks per 1pp. You've got 22 ranks, so that's only 5.5 points. Okay, well, first you need to figure out what sort of minions he has. Are they just crazy/nihilistic people, with stats comparable to the Bystander? Or are they more like trained soldiers? Once you figure out what you have (in terms of how much pp one minion costs), you'll need Minion in rank equal to (minion total points / 15). Then, you need to figure out how many minions you want to have; for each 'doubling' of minions, you need one additional rank of Minion. So, with Minions 5, you could have: * 25 minions built on up to 15pp each (Minion 1 for 15pp, +4 more ranks for 25 Minions), or * 10 minions built on up to 30pp each (Minion 2 for 30pp, +3 more ranks for 10 Minions), or 3 * 5 minions built on up to 45pp each (Minion 3 for 45pp, +2 more ranks for 5 Minions), or * 2 minions built on up to 60pp each (Minion 4 for 60pp, +1 more rank for 2 Minions), or * 1 minions built on up to 75pp. Keep in mind the House Rule we have regarding minions: no minion may have a PL greater than one-half your own PL (5 in this character's case). Well, first off, you need to tell how the sword chooses its wielder: Restricted 1 always goes for some concrete way (sex, an ability score, absence/presence of some power, etc.) to determine who can use it; it can't be just "whoever the sword chooses." Given the background, I would suggest "anyone who has committed murder". As for making both effects go at once, it's a simple matter of linking the effect: Strike 8 (Extra: Linked Drain Constitution 10 [PF: Slow Fade 1]; PF: Mighty) You strike a target, they must make a Toughness save against the Strike and then immediately after make a Fortitude save against the Constitution Drain. Again, 1pp = 4 ranks in skills, so Enhanced Diplomacy 10 (+10 ranks in Diplomacy) only costs 2.5pp. Also keep in mind that the most ranks you can have in a skill is (PL+5), or 15 in your case. This seems more like a personality trait (Complication) that a real Drawback, in part because there are no official rules on sleep requirements (though Kenson seemed to like my suggestion). 'Course, with the points being saved from skills, you might could add Immunity (need for sleep) to his Armor or Amulet This is definitely more of a Complication: he chooses to do all these things; he is physically capable of not doing these. (As for the Armor/Protection, Devices are already Noticeable by default.)
  21. Well, my first question is to ask what the Probability Control is Linked to. As for Drawbacks, only one I can think of that might fit is poor (he's still trying to get back on his feet after his bender; 1pp drawback, your Wealth bonus is +4 instead of +8 as for other starting characters), or some vulnerability or weakness (the downside of his luck powers).
