  1. "You started it!" snapped back the Gremlin, looking directly at the Doktor. "You don't remember, do you? oh that's priceless! I knew you where neurotic, but this caps it all!" said the creature, doing a little dance. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. I can't hurt you. You had enough sense to build in that failsafe when you made me. But everything else, you see, is fair game!" "Oh don't look so shocked!" it said, waving a bored hand at the Doktor. "What did you expect? your fractured mind, bits and pieces of yourself floating around that mess of a skull?" it said, tapping the side of its head emphatically. "Some neurosis given form?" it hissed, then mocked the Doktor's Voice... "All these creations! So dangerous! I could destroy the world with my inventions! they are dangerous! dangerous! I must destroy them!" it wailed, with operatic melodrama. "And hey presto, you built me! the failsafe!" it smiled, jamming its thumbs into its chest. "And here I am. Wrecking everything. This is just the beginning. The game. Everything you build, I destroy! hahahaha!" The creature laughed merrily, caught up in the moment. "So don't whine to me, you pathetic, drivelling, snot-nosed excuse for a man. You can't even keep your head together. The world is lucky to have me, destroying the doomsday devices of a fruitcake mad scientist!" "Don't talk to me about the game. You started it!"
  2. OK I am awarding a +5 Situational Bonus to that for various reasons! So 17 vs 1d20+8=16 You have its attention! The rules have always (to me) seemed unclear about exactly when a target of fascinate gets another will check."Ends when the targets overcomes it..." I suggest this is just handled as a speed of PLOT thing, every now and again it gets another Will save.
  3. "...." replied Supercape. He hadn't really given it much thought. When it came to handling radation and energy, there was nobody better. Handling a rough street gang was another matter, however. He had handled enough brawls in his time as hero to know the basics of pugilism, but he didn't much fancy his chances in an all out bar room brawl with some hardened bikers. "Lets play it by ear" he said, as best he could. Dismounting from his bike, he strolled up to, and into the Garage. Choosing the person most likely to be running the garage that afternoon, he walked up to him. "Say, nice garage you have here. How would I go about speaking to the owner?" he said, bluntly.
  4. GM Avetti looked up, cross eyed, at Voltage as the master of electricity rained down pure power on to him. He started to move, but was to shaken to get far before he was hit with the lightning. His body convulsed, arcing with sparks and power, his hair standing on end, and his body shaking, before he dropped on to his hands and knees. "You'll pay for that, you swine!" he cursed, muttering something faintly in italian, before grasping his gun. "Stamp him into the earth, Supergiantboy!" he yelled, shaking his head and its tattered hairs. "Raaaargh!" snarled the enraged, fifty foot Sam, clumsily shaking off some of the house and stamping, unsteadily, on the ground.
  5. 1d20+0=19 Dazed (not really relevant as already stunned), and bruised (assumed you wanted non lethal!). Avetti tries to recover from Stun, as does Scientist. 1d20+0=15, 1d20+0=1 so Avetti recovers, but does not act. Supergiantboy goes to smash puny Voltage! 1d20+2=11 is a miss (even with large size miss rules). Round 2: 22- Voltage - 2 Hero Points - Unharmed 19 - Avetti - Bruised 10 -SGB - Unharmed 4 - Scientist - Stunned (DC 14 to escape).
  6. GM "A blood oath?" replied Mead, confused. "Look buster, I don't get you. I don't get you at all..." he said in a genuinely vexed manner, irritated and perplexed at the same time. "First, I heard you, I swear it, confessing to killing all those people. Clear as you speaking to me now. Then when I come over to confront you, you suddenly have a change of heart. " "And now, a blood oath?" He sighed, considering his options. "This is messy, real messy, fish-man. And I don't know if my superiors are going to like me shooting an unarmed man, not on no accounting for no blood oath. Smells fishy to me, my friend, this whole damn thing smells rotten as hell. But I guess if you want a bullet..." He took up his gun, aimed, and fired.
  7. GM Avetti Gasped as Voltage burst into the makeshift laboratory, drawing out his gun. "How did you track us down here?" he yelled, angry at the world. "You screwed up this day enough already, hero! but this time, I got something for you...hit it!" On order, the scientist threw a giant Iron switch, unleashing huge sparks of power right into Sam, who writhed around and rolled his eyes. The procedure, whatever it was, was far from perfect...a shockwave of electricty arced through the loft, followed by a dimming of the power. Then, Sam grew. Still convulsing from the procedure, his body broke through the roof, and the floor boards, with walls, ceilings, floors all getting pushed aside or pulverised. His giant head smashed through the roof and he stood towering over Avetti, the Scientist, and Voltage. He must have been fifty feet tall by the time he stopped growing, his hair on end and his body quavering. "Get him!" shouted Avetti, reeling from the blast but pointing at Voltage.
  8. Fiat for a reaction on part of the crew! VOltage 3 Hero Points Sam's growth is seriously damaging the house, effectively wrecking it. Reflex Save DC 15 or a DC 20 Toughness save from the debris and fall. 1d20+6=24 Avetti makes Reflex Roll. 1d20+0=18 Scientist does too! Also, there is an explosion of electricty, a DC 15 Stun Effect which you are immune to (and so is Supergiantboy, as it came from his growth). 1d20+3=13 Avetti, stunned. 1d20+0=13 Scientist, stunned Initiatives: 1d20=10, 1d20=19, 1d20=4 Supergiant Boy: 10 Avetti: 19 Scientist: 4 None are minions. So you are up first!
  9. GM There were three voices. The first was the rumbling deep voice of Mr. Avetti, a voice Voltage remembered well. "So, this here is really going to do the business, is it? like with those insects?" "Yes, that's the...plan..." came the second voice, an older male voice that Voltage could not recognise. "One flick of this switch and our test subject here...he should respond the same way..." "Pl..ease...let...let...let me go! I changed my mind..." came the third voice. It was Sam Morgan!, the brother of Voltage! "Shut up boy!" responded Mr. Avetti "you went hanging round my boys, wanting the wild life, didn't you? even got yourself into a spot of trouble with debts, with the police....well, I saw a bit of potential, that's true. And now, you get your chance to be a superhero! working for me, of course!" He paused melodramatically. "Supergiantboy!" he said in an operatic tone "Largest Hero in Freedom...working for yours truly, of course...just like those flies and creepy crawlies!"
  10. Voltage -2 Hero Points post your stunt away!
  11. GM The two thugs had fallen to the floor, out cold, with hair standing on end from just the power of Voltage. The loft was partially boarded up, bolted from the inside - but some wood and iron could be melted and shattered without effort by one mighty blast from the electrical hero. It would prove no obstacle. Power cables - thick ones - streamed into the loft through drilled out holes. The loft was clearly not built to be a laboratory, but somebody had done a pretty good job of converting it into one. Beyond the trapdoor, up into the loft, Voltage could hear some murmurings...voices, although quite how many and who he had no idea.
  12. The Librarian is kidnapped dum dum daaah! I suggest between you you meet up to take the investigation forward - either following up on the Librarian or the book, or both (or of course any other ideas you have!)
  13. Not sure what is in the way to the centre, but if, as Rav says, there is is some Terminus Energy field blocking it, will stunt (for an HP as fatigued already) another Power: Nullify 12 (Energy Drain 2PP/Rank) Extras: Perception, Duration: Sustained for 5PP/Rank at 60PP. Add in subtle 2 and inditect 1 just because they fit with his other powers. Now the difficulty would be using that whilst maintaining a concentration duration effect (his impervious forcefield). So in this case, he will have to maintain it as a move action, by making a concentration roll: 1d20+20=38 which he does with ease!
  14. "Never tried" said Supercape, floating by the suited heroine. "But it shouldn't be impossible...just a matter of inverse paramatric extrapolation through n-dimensional space. If I set up a negative feedback loop though the M-brane..." He coughed and caught himself. Then realised that Ironclad would actually know what he was talking about... However, just this once, his lecture would have to be cut short. The energy build up was dangerous, and his quantum shield would not hold forever. "I mean, yes, I can. Won't be easy though. In fact, it will be damn hard. Keeping up this field around us too...which, incidentally, I have every intention of doing!"
  15. GM The Next Day... Abigail Hart, Librarian, didn't come home that night. Nor did she turn up to work. Or phone anybody. In short, she was a missing person. A couple of police cars were flashing away outside the library, and an appeal had gone out by the library staff, and even in the news. "I don't know what's happened to her! please! someone must know something!" quoted her mother, who she lived with. But nobody knew what had happened to her. Agnes got a call, as did Subito, from a concerned Detective, asking about their visit to the library, and if they had seen Abigail, what did she say, was she frightened, what was she wearing...
  16. Who is keeping the book? :)
  17. GM In the Service tube... The boobytrap was no match for the genius of Doktor Archeville. In a moment, whilst not repaired, the potentially dangerous wiring was disarmed. "You got me there...." whispered a voice just a bit further down the service tube. The thing was no more than two feet high, looking like a warped imp, or gnome...or... Gremlin... It was grey, with crunched up, puffy features on its face. It was hard to say what it's skin was made of. It looked out of focus, fuzzy. Otherwise, it had two arms, two legs, long, gangly, with particularly long fingers that ended in precise nails, good for both interfering with complex machinery, and equally, if need be, dishing out a nasty scratch. "I should have known you would be too clever for that..." it whispered. At least, it sounded like a whisper, but it was loud, cold, and clear. "But this is a good game, is it not? Fear not, my master...I have no intention of letting you die..." it smiled, with a cold cruel smile. "Just destroying everything you ever built or loved!"
  18. GM In the Cockpit, with Glow "The Damn weights were secured!" yelled Marco, loosing his rag. He ran sweaty hands through sweaty hair, his normal perfectly groomed posture in dissaray. "Oh Gods, I think I'm getting to be sick..." he mumbled, before doubling over and emptying his stomach onto the floor of the cockpit. "Nice timing!" yelled back the Co-pilot, Smith, shaking Fawkes to see if he could rouse him from his slumber. The man was out cold, and bleeding from a particularly nasty gash on his head. The injury looked pretty severe. Smith thumped the console in frustration. "This is all turning to hell! I gotta stay here, see if I can't get this thing down" he said to Glow, wiping his brow. "You gotta see if you can get help for the Captain...he looks busted up bad...tough old guy, but that blasted weight caught him hard...he looks bad...I don't suppose you are trained in first aid?" He looked back through the broken door to the passanger suite. "And make sure those damn weights are secure...even better, throw them overboard or melt them or something...this is beyond coincidence. Somebody here wants this ship down. I don't like the look of the Jackson guy..." "Damn reporter..." he mumbled. Meanwhile... The Cinema screen of the passenger cabin flicked onto view, without anybody turning it on. At full, deafening volume, it played an old black and white episode of the Twilight Zone.
  19. GM "Message received, Protectron!" replied the officer of the radiowaves. "Dispatch we have a....a...." "...." "...I don't think they have a code number for it, but we've got it! on our way, ambulance en route!" Meanwhile "....Man....it hurts...." whimpered the youth. "You saved my life, dude! you saved my bleedin' life!" he wailed. "You are awesome...dude...." he continued, wincing with the pain. "You are one awesome golden dude. Hey man, I'm sorry about bustin you up back there. You just be a meal ticket out of this hell hole, you know! But know, you saved my life. The Flag Street gang...we got your back dude...." As he spoke, his two friends sidled up to Protectron from across the road, dropping their makeshift clubs as they did so. "Jeepers! they shot Wild Willy!" said the other black man, who may have been 'Willy's" brother. "Oh man, this is some messed up day! I can't believe you shot Wild Willy!" he yelled at Protectron. "Chill man, chill!" said Wild Willy "Mah Golden dude here, he saved me! Harry Print shot me, or at least somebody who looks like him. Don't dress like him, that's f'shure!" he said, wincing once again at the end of his sentence. "But this here dude, he stitched me up. Saved mah damn life! So lay off him! I owe him my life, man, and the Flag Street Gang always pays its dues!"
  20. Are you guys ok to jump to "next morning"? after deciding who gets to keep the book?
  21. GM Under the pale light of the rising sun, Weaver, the beggar, and Arug sped away through the fertile banks of the Nile out into the lands of Egypt. "Come come" whispered Ahmed, his bedraggled hair blowing in the still cool air. "We must not push our luck too far...the carpet, it is a magnet...we must alight!!!" He pointed to the grounds below them. "Down there, look: beggars, merchants, travellers...we can go by camel!" He pointed at a group of the very beasts, travelling on a dusty nile road amongst cars, carts, and men and women on foot. The camels appeared to be owned by some merchant.
  22. You are all cool! Ahmed is, if nothing else, very stealthy too!
  23. "Sure" lied Supercape. A bicycle... He hopped on the bike, and cracked his knuckles. The principle shouldn't be too hard - he knew how to drive a car, and could ride a bicycle, after all. He studied the controls carefully - throttle, brakes, gears...yes...it all looked familiar. He smiled at the Agent. "Piece of cake!" he said, full of confidence, as the engine ignited. The bike and hero yanked forward under the engine for a yard or two, then stopped. Then, his smile not fading, he repeated the inelegant maneuver. "There, see?" he said as he applied the throttle more gently. "Nothing can go wrong!" And with that, he drove off towards 56th Street, as carefully as he could.
  24. Hotzone: Synth Going Underground. Synth was out of pocket, as usual, when the crisis started to unfold in Freedom City. She had just enough money to cover her rent that week. She thought she was getting a handle on the whole money thing, but it just didn’t seem…right, somehow. She tossed some clothes, food, and a copy of Marx (now there was a man who understood) into her backpack and headed off to work. She had found some employment on a construction site. There had been a little bit of scepticism that a woman could do the hard labour, even a woman with her strong, athletic build. Scepticism had turned to respect as she had ploughed, tirelessly, through the first day’s work. That respect was turning into wonder. And then, as Synth knew, came suspicion and small resentments. She had learned to leave before that set in. Big Joe Cane was one of the largest men on the site, with arm’s like tree trunks from years with the Jackhammer. He was a friendly man, simple, honest, straightforward. Everyone liked Big Joe Cane. Including Synth. And he had taking a liking to her. She had a few admirers and suitors on the site already, but Big Joe was happily married, two kids, a third on the way, and had little or no interest in playing away. It was about then that the “incidents†started happening. Rumours and gossip at first, but faster and faster until the truth could no longer be refuted. Everybody was developing Superpowers! Big Joe Cane was no exception. He was pounding away on the road, doing some maintenance work, enjoying the deep vibrations of his Jackhammer, with Synth not far beside him, when the road erupted like a small miniaturised earthquake. “Hot Thunderbolts!†he yelled, as chunks of road flew and circled around him, his dead Jackhammer falling to his side. He was vibrating with the same power and force as his tool, and the ground around him was simply cracking open and blistering. As his body roared with power, the damage became greater, knocking over the other workers, bar Synth, who retained her balance. Slabs of road whizzed around, hitting two other workers – and a third, if Synth had not pulled him to one side. Meanwhile, Big Joe was digging himself deeper and deeper into the road, like a pit. The situation could have got exponentially dangerous, had not Big Joe hit a power cable, sending his huge body flying with the electricity of the city. It was enough to knock him cold for a few minutes, and kill his untamed power. And that was Big Joe’s story. But it wasn’t Synth’s. Just as Big Joe developed his powers, the mutagen in the water they had both been drinking hit her. She felt her cells, and body, twist. With great effort, she managed to put a lid on the chaotic division of her cells. Eyes, limbs, even organ’s formed and closed all over her body. There was enough distraction and dust to keep her from view, but it was taking all of her effort to stop literally exploding in a mess of random tissue. She hauled herself over to Big Joe. “Joe…it’s doing something to me…Joe…I gotta hide…going underground…sorry Joe….†She mumbled, out of one, three, and two mouth’s at different points. With that, she dived down the hole that Big Joe had unwittingly dug, and down through the exposed maintenance tunnel. With the chaos that followed in the coming days, until the cure was found, nobody was paying much attention to the hole in the road. The road was closed, but that was it. All the cities resources were diverted to bigger fish – the power supply, the water supply, the peppered incidents of explosions and powers going astray, and of course the rash of new super villains taking advantage of their new powers and the new situation. And then of course, there was the issue of the toxic side effects of the mutagen, requiring even more effort to find and distribute a cure. Amongst all that, a hole in the road was of no consequence. So Synth Sat down there, a mess of limbs, eyes, mouths, noses, her whole body seething and reeling, barely able to function at all. She could have moved, she could have gone for help. But it would mean exposing herself. SHADOW wanted her back, wanted to cash in on their investment. And she wasn’t quite ready for public knowledge of her existence yet. No – she needed to stay off the radar, for now. The food in her backpack was carefully rationed. She found a water mains down there, in the hole and the tunnels, that kept her hydrated at least. But she only had morsels to eat. And her body was burning through the food it its new state. Soon, it started eating herself. Soon, she was too weak to even move and get help if she wanted too. “Hey, girl, are you still down there?†A flashlight in the dark. Big Joe Cane. “Yuhhh…Yuhhh..It’s me….†Big Joe clambered down, with some difficulty due to his frame, and shone his light on the mass of flesh that was Synth. “Hot thunderbolts! What happened to you???†he gasped, shocked at her appearance. “What happened to everybody else?†replied Synth “same…with me….not so…pretty uh?†she said, doing her best to try and control her body. So weak. “Girl, we gotta get you out of here, get you to a hospital…†said Joe “I…I think I can use these powers now, kinda like controlling the earth, you know? Moving you?†“Joe….I…can’t….I can’t….†Maybe it was the faintness, the hunger, maybe it was her desperation. Maybe it was the fact that Big Joe Cane was just such an honourable decent guy. Maybe she just needed a friend to unburden herself on after all this time. But it all came tumbling out. All of it. Sweden, Her identity, SHADOW, her powers, the lot. “Well ain’t that some story!†whistled Joe. “Fancy having a real life super hero work right beside me! I had heard a few stories about you, but nobody took too much attention. Guess that explains how a girl like you can throw around a Jackhammer like me, eh?†he smiled. “I guess if you be needing to stay underground, Big Joe can fix you up there!†he smiled. And he did, sealing her in, and coming down regularly with food and water to tend to his ward. And eventually, when the cures were administered, giving one to Synth. “Got you right patched up there, hell, you look almost human now!†he smiled as Synth returned to her normal form. “That’s exactly what I am!†replied Synth, changing into a spare pair of Joes clothes, her old ones ruined by the ailment. They were men’s clothes, and far too big. But it beat being dressed in tatters that did little for her modesty. “Joe…you saved my life…you saved my identity. You know, you are the only person to know. I don’t have the words to say how grateful I am. But I want you to know, if there is anything you ever need…anything…I will be there for you, and your family…†Big Joe smiled and gave Synth a slap on the back that would have knocked over many men. “Anytime! Guess I’m just giving back a little to the heroes of the city!†he laughed “You just go do your thing, keeping the world and the street’s safe for us!†“But you owe me one!†he said, with a wink, as the two clambered out of the hole. There was plenty of reconstruction work to be done, and the two would no doubt be busy.
