  1. I've always seen it done largely off-panel: player says they want to make a Gather Info roll, Judge tells them hoe long it'll take (and cost), and if the player still wants to go through with it he rolls. Judge briefly describes who & where the PC got the info from, but focuses on the information itself.
  2. Aside from the Character Approval Judge-y things I've said in the thread, I'd recommend lowering Base Attack Bonus and getting some ranks in Attack Focus (Ranged), since so much of her stuff is ranged.
  3. She's got 12 Feats listed, so that's 12pp, not 10. Her Grapple bonus would be +9 (same as her BAB + Str modifier), not +5. I would prefer it if folks list the damage they can do along with their Combat info (in her case, something like "Cold Blast, Ranged Damage 10, Fort DC 25" or "Breath Freeze, Ranged Fatigue 10, Fort DC 20"). It makes keeping track of things a lot easier.
  4. Numbers and stats all look fine to me, though I would personally like to see the stats presented in a slightly clearer way (the Device is a tad 'muddy', it all runs together, and I prefer it when things are listed alphabetically). *inks up his new stamp* APPROVED!
  5. With Sustained Enhanced Strength, your strength cuts out when you're stunned (or unconscious or otherwise unable to take a free action to sustain it), which'd be Very Bad if you're holding a building at the time (though you can try and maintain a Sustained power as a reaction while stunned by succeeding at a Concentration check, DC 10 + power rank). I'm 99% sure that continuing to hold something is a reaction (i.e., you don't drop things when you're stunned), so the loss of Enhanced Str/Super-Str would have a definite impact. This isn't much of a flaw for Intelligence or Charisma because, when you're stunned or unconscious, you cannot use anything tied to those ability scores anyway -- no skill tied to either of those abilities can be used as a reaction. Same goes for his Comprehend Languages power, changing the duration to Sustained isn't enough of a limit to be a full Flaw, as it's doubtful he'll hear anything in a foreign language only while stunned that's crucial to know (or even useful to know). The "Charisma with Effort" thing would be better done as a Boost Charisma (Self Only; possibly Slow Fade and Total Fade), if it is a true effort to maintain and not something he has active every waking moment. I have no problem with Adaptation (or any other Variable Power), but mine is just one voice I do have reservations about it being an AP of another power, since (to my mind) a Variable Power should be that power's only "setting." Corrosion's already Touch range -- why are you adding the Touch Range flaw? (And you cannot have the Extended Range PF on a Perception Range power.) Oh, and the Schattenwelt is the "Shadow Dimension" that's the source of Nacht-Krieger's powers. It's spooky. EDIT: Oops, I was wrong, as I was going solely by the 'cheat sheet' skill chart. Seems Knowledge checks can be made as a reaction. But, as Barnum says, this isn't likely to come up much: how often do you honestly expect the character to need to make Knowledge checks while he's stunned? If it's once in a blue moon, it's a Drawback, not a full Flaw.
  6. I'm still curious about the "Detect Injury" power -- is it just to detect the Injured condition (which can only be caused by lethal damage), or any type of damage (Bruised, Injured, etc.)? A suggestion, for sake of easy record keeping, would be to mark down what his Bloodrage Boosted stats are: * Str 26/+8, Damage +12 Strike, Con 30/+10, Toughness +12, Attack +11 melee, Defense +11 in round 1; * Str 25/+7, Damage +11 Strike, Con 29/+9, Toughness +11, Attack +10 melee, Defense +10 in round 2; * Str 24/+7, Damage +11 Strike, Con 28/+9, Toughness +11, Attack +10 melee, Defense +10 in round 3; * and Str 23/+6, Damage +10 Strike, Con 27/+8, Toughness +10, Attack +9 melee, Defense +9 in round 4 I would also suggest that, rather than re-posting a new set of stat blocks, you go back and edit the initial post, so that when this character thread is fully approved and moved people will be able to easily find the actual approved character.
  7. [[ 19, eh? That works perfectly! ]] As Catherine's mind races back through the corridors of time, her mind's eye sees nothing but blue light at first. Slowly the light fades so it is but a border around her vision, and she sees the same spot in the park, but many hours earlier. The sun is high in the sky and shining bright, though the absence of any sound adds an eeriness to the scene. Catherine soon sees a woman jogging by, and though the vision was not as clear as she would have liked, the street-smart sorceress could tell it was Alex McGee. The young blonde coed seemed to be enjoying a routine jog (though how anyone could enjoy running was lost on the donut-loving occultist), and so entranced by the endorphins of her run and the music blaring through her iPod that she did not notice the five small forms approaching her. They were the rough size of large dogs, or perhaps a pre-teen child, though the vision did not reveal anything beyond the rough size and the creatures dark green coloration which blended well with the abundant foliage of the park. The creatures soon swarmed and were on her, bringing her down by their sheer weight, and though Catherine heard no scream she could see the jogger's face twisted in agony. The silent mauling continued as the things wriggled and squirmed over her body, leaving trials of a glistening slime behind them. Here and there she could see between the creatures and to the burned flesh and exposed bone of the victim as they devoured her. Though the creatures were far from done with their meal, the vision closed, and Catherine's mind reeled back through the red-limned corridors of time to the present. [[ I've edited the first post in the OOC thread to reflect current health conditions and Hero Points. ]]
  8. Indeed it is, and giant robots was one of the things he did (as well as death rays and size-altering beams) ;)
  9. Archeville nods at Velocity's words, then turns to see the winged newcomer arriving. He smiles and waves to her, then waves her over. Archevile seemed truly surprised at this, "Kapitän Wonder is familiar mit me?! I am honored, presuming of course zhat is is me you are familiar mit und not von of mein ancestors. Mein family is a... troubled von -- it is a regrettable truth zhat mein grandfazher served mit zhe Nazi Party -- und I do vhat I do in part to atone for zheir misdeeds und clear zhe family name."
  10. As Imposter and Mongrel Angel catch one another up, and Nightshyft moves to defend Catherine from... whatever that dripping is, Catherine's mind races back in time... [[ I'll need a Notice and/or Search check from Catherine to determine what she discovers, please. ]]
  11. I like the Princess of Pestilence, too, though with her hatred of authority I have a hard time imagining she'd name herself after some noble/royal title. Pandemic Pandemique Pandemia Pandemonia Pandemonium Pestis

So am I the only one keeping the same avatar?
  13. Very creepy! And the rats suggest lots of ways to go with her character. (Vampire queen? Pied piper [but with a bewitching voice]? Rat-woman?)
  14. "Hrm, a fair point, ja. Still, is it not best to avoid, as zhe saying goes, 'taunting zhe dynamite money'? I mean, I'm sure he cannot harm you -- if zhe stories of your speed are true -- but zhat doesn't mean you zhould be so flippant, nor so qvick to match his own level of... crassness. Such is not becoming for so beautiful a voman as yourself." "Ah, zhere I go, trying to give advice vhen it is not asked for. And mitout even introducing meinself!" He bows slightly to her, "I am Herr Doktor Viktor Archeville, of Germany. I've only been in Freedom City for a few months, und so hope to use zhese exercises to make some new contacts."
  15. Archeville turned to Captain Wonder and extended a hand to him as the Legionnaire's attention was captured by the saffron speedster. "Ah, Kapitän Wonder, so good to finally meet you! I've heard so much of your exploits, it is a true honor to be here mit you. I do hope zhat past... elements do not impede our current und future azzociations." At Leginnaire's outcry, Archeville turned to Velocity, "I vould be careful how you address him: I zhink he comes from zhe same place Centurion did, und I doubt you'd talk to him zhat vay, hrm?" [[ I'm assuming it's not uncommon knowledge that Centurion came from a parallel Earth where the Roman Empire never fell. ]] Wow... he's good! Wish I knew exactly what he'd said.... Archeville thinks as Captain Wonder dresses down Legionnaire.
  16. [[ nareik, I think you mean "inhuman," not "inhumane"... unless those muscles have been doing some very naughty things! ]] Archeville put his notepad away, then looked around the room to see who all was in attendance. Emissary and Captain Wonder! They're no Freedom League, but they're both definitely experienced at the hero gig. Oh, and there's Legionnaire! He looks to have healed up nicely, even without my assistance. And that yellow blur must be Velocity! At least, it is if the descriptions I've heard weren't too inaccurate. Archeville glided over to Legionnaire, hovering just a few inches off the ground and so appearing to be as tall as the roamin' Roman. "Greetings again, Herr... you know, I never did catch you name, I only know you as zhe Legionnaire. Glad to see you haff healed so vell from vhen I saw you last, zhough."
  17. D'oh, I'd meant for my "talk about past stuff" comment to be for nareik (player of Legionnaire)!
  18. I keep meaning to get into Bones -- a friend raves about it -- but I'm almost never able to catch it. Thank goodness for Netflix! :)
  19. Archeville wouldn't mind thwarting her. Repeatedly. Seriously, though, that is an awesome pic, and I wish my drawing skills were even a tenth as good as that! That is professional-grade work there! And JDRook, maybe her hand is backwards, a sure sign she's a rakshasi!
  20. The Archeville Family Tree Vischer ("fisherman") Harbin ("little bright warrior") Archeville * Born 1407. The most successful fisherman working the Donau (Danube) river in all of Freiburg, due to long studies of the habits of the various fish species. Went mad in 1430, claiming to have been contacted by untermenschen ("under-men" -- probably Deep Ones [Atlantean/Serpent People hybrids], possibly something else). He tried, futilely, to warn others of their threat until his death in 1453, age 46 (most records indicate heart failure, though one reports that his heart had been cut out, though the absence of any intruders implies that he did it himself); at his time of death he had the body of someone nearly half his age. ** The untermenschen (and the current Archeville) did to Vischer what Amanda Waller revealed was done to Terry McGinni's father Warren in the JLU episode "Epilogue": he was altered so that his reproductive material was that of Something Not Quite Human. He himself was largely unchanged (physically -- just enough to maintain the changes to his reproductive material), but his mind was quite unhinged. * Earliest user of the "VHA" naming system for which historical records are clear. Also earliest Archeville of which the familial traits of madness and longevity are recorded. * Married Leah Hoffman. Had three sons, one born before his madness, two after. Vadim ("a powerful ruler") Hademar ("famed fighter") Archeville * Born 1430, the middle child among of his generation. A sociopath and rapist who viewed other people as at best pets to play with; may have been responsible for the deaths of his two siblings. Killed by one of the women he tried to take in 1480 (at the ripe old age of 50, ancient by the standards of the day). * Married Laura Schultz, a minor baroness. Had one child by her, but probably fathered countless others via rape. Valdemar ("renowned leader") Heller ("bright, brilliant") Archeville * Born 1475. First of the Archeville lineage to make serious studies in the sciences, taking full advantage of the facilities at the relatively new Albert-Ludwigs-Universitat Freiburg (Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg, one of the oldest universities in Germany), eventually becoming a teacher there of natural science. Records indicate he exhibited a form of what would now be called Asperger syndrome. Died 1533, age 68, having lived longer even than his father. * Married Johanna Becker, a woman 25 years his junior. Had three children, one son and two daughters. Valter ("mighty ruler") Herbert ("illustrious warrior") Archeville * Born 1516. Also studied at Albert-Ludwigs-Universitat Freiburg, focusing on the humanities. Went in a near-catatonic depression at the death of his first child, and remained so more or less until his death in 1592, after a remarkably long 76 year life. * Married Emily Wagner. Had three children, though the first two died at an early age of illnesses. Venn ("from the marsh or fen") Helmuth ("helmet, protector, courage") Archeville * Born 1546. Extremely bipolar. Studied medicine in an attempt to prevent others from dying the way his two siblings had. Served under Swiss clockmaker Hans Locarno -- aka Master Mage Lord Deosil -- from 1600 until his death, beginning the Archeville line's fascination with cuckoo clocks; Deosil attempted to stabilize him, but his attempts only sometimes worked. Killed 1645 by plague, living an unheard of (for the time) 99 years of life. * Married Lena Weber. Has two children, a twin son & daughter. Vid ("sylvan man") Hackett ("little woodsman") Archeville * Born ~1634. A bear of a man, and a paranoid schizophrenic, who lived in the Black Forest of southwestern Germany during the latter half of the 17th century, generating rumors of a Sasquatch-like creature in the area. Killed 1705 by hunters, after having seen 71 winters; a remarkably accurate sundial was found near his cave-home. * Never formally married, though fathered at least one son via a baroness (Leonie Meier) who got lost in his woods one evening. Rumors persist that he fathered more with young girls who got lost in the woods or with druids/witches mistaking him for some nature spirit with which they could commune. Virgil ("strong") Hartwig ("courageous in battle") Archeville * Born 1682. Served in many battles during the early 18th Century, putting his extreme rage and berserk fury to good use (most of the time). Made a habit of collecting any timepieces from his foes. Killed 1757 while serving in the Seven Yea's War, despite being 75 years old. * Married Anna Fischer. Had three children, all stout boys. Vito ("conqueror") Hilliard ("hard warrior") Archeville * Born 1719. Fought against Napoleon's forces. Killed on battlefield in 1809, at the amazing age of 90. Borderline psychopathic/sociopathic, showing absolutely no empathy for anyone, and few emotions; seemingly felt no physical pain, either. Pursued clockmaking as a hobby; extremely punctual. * Married Maria Schneider (in a maneuver to gain financial & political power), a woman 40 years his younger. Had two sons, one at 56 and one at 77. Varian ("changeable one") Hoffman ("courtier") Archeville * Born 1796. Had a small hand in the transformation of the Confederation of the Rhine (Napoleon's organization of the German states) into the German Confederation in 1815, and later played both Austrian and Prussian forces against one another in an attempt to gain more power (but wound up helping cause the Austrio-Prussian War of 1866 instead). * Conflicting reports on his exact appearance; a minor shapeshifter? Multiple personality/dissociative identity disorder? Date of death unknown. * Married Sophie Schmidt. Had one son with her, though may have had other children via other women he seduced/tricked. Victor ("winner, conqueror") Hobart ("shining intellect") Archeville * Born 1848 in the Austrian-held section of south Germany. A highly skilled glass-blower and silversmith, and moderately skilled clockmaker. Had a (very) minor role in reuniting the Austrian-held sections of the southern German states and the Prussian North German Federation into the German Empire in 1871, by providing replacements for cracked mirrors in the galerie des glaces (the Hall of Mirrors) of the Palace of Versailles, where Prussian King William I was declared German emperor. Died 1914, at the age of 66. * Obsessive/compulsive with mirrors, reflections, light & darkness, and duality. Minor photokinesis & umbrakinesis. * Married Marie Müller, a woman two decades his younger. Had three children, a son and two daughters. Remains of all ancestors subsumed into ArchEvil/Dokthulhu form on June 17th, 2011. Verrill ("loyal, masculine") Herman ("soldier") Archeville * Born 1896. Loyal to both the German Empire in World War I (1914-18) and the German Nazi party in World War II (1937-39), as a soldier in the former and, inspired by the use of chemical weaponry on the battlefield, as a "mad scientist" in the latter (specializing in size-alteration, clockwork automata, and time manipulation). Reportedly died 1965 in an accident in his Brazilian laboratory, age 69. * This is a lie: Verrill lived, and continued working for SHADOW, creating all manner of mutants and monsters for Overshadow. Sadly (for him), his plans to overthrow Kantor came to an abrupt end on June 17th, 2011. * Regenerative capabilities saved him from numerous lab accidents, and allowed him to harvest own flesh for experiments. * Married Margaret Schneider and fathered one son with her, but the revelation of her Jewish ancestry lead Verrill Herman to shoot her and flee, leaving her for dead. Varick ("leader who defends") Heinrich ("ruler of the home/estate") Archeville * Born 1940. Raised by his mother, who was not as dead as Verrill had believed. Lived his whole life in West Germany, working on electronics and computers (many of which contained or were precision timepieces). Committed to an insane asylum in 1990 following the attempted murder of his son. Originally stuggled with mild schizophrenia (hallucinations & paranoia), later developed a unique combination of late-onset Tay-Sachs disease and something akin to Lesch-Nyhan syndrome (symptoms of the former started appearing soon after his son's birth, of the latter after his incarceration). Still alive as of this writing. * Possesses several extrasensory abilities: precognition, postcognition, and true sight. (Some of his schizophrenic hallucinations were seeing things that really were there but no one else could see!) * Married Cynthia Bauer, a Romani woman; she died in childbirth. Has one son. * Killed June 17th, 2011, when he was subsumed into the ArchEvil/Dokthuluhu form. Viktor ("the conqueror") Helmut ("healthy spirit/mind") Archeville * Born 1977. * Active as a superhero in the first half of the 21st century (2000 and onward).
  21. Would it be okay for Dr Archeville to have a brief cameo, where he visits Dryad in jail (before her breakout) and tries reassuring her of his promise to find a way to help her?
  22. MarkK, do you want any mention of the "We Are Legion" story Cosmicarus was running for us be made (as if it'd been completed some weeks ago; "I see that black eye healed nicely," "How's Valencia doing?"), or just ignore it?
  23. Doktor Archeville had heard of the open invite via the soc.superhuman.hero usenet, and almost immediately decided to go. No better way to introduce myself to both the newcomers and the ones who've been at this for some time. And make no mistake, I am a newcomer here, even though I've been operating on my own for some years back home -- there are different cultural and social factors here, and I don't have the same level of contacts, so some things I'll have to re-learn and re-establish. What he did debate on, though, was how to enter. Walk right up? Too mundane. Fly in? Straightforward, certainly, but again too 'vanilla.' Fly in cloaked and invisible? Unusual, certainly, but possibly too startling, and it might send wrong first impressions. Hijack the internal video feeds to show my face on all the monitors and introduce myself through all their intercoms? Again, wrong first impressions.... Which is how Archeville found himself flying from his new home in Hanover to Freedom Hall in the City Center. The place impressed the German engineer & scientist: Daedalus' design was elegant in it's simplicity, though he was a tad surprised at the Mesopotamian ziggurat-like form, given the architect's apparent Balkan heritage. He'd taken the tour of the ground floor back when he was a college student at HIT, back in 1999, and was impressed then, but had not been back since it had been destroyed and rebuilt back in 2001. The current version was even more elegant and awesome, and Archeville paused now and again as he floated his way to the sub-sub-level "wreck room" to jot a few notes down on his notepad. He was busy scrawling a note even as he floated into the "wreck room" where a few of the others were already gathered.
