    Gridlock!

"Calm down. You won't be harmed," Replica said matter-of-factly. She had no intention of actually hurting the hacker. Just make him well-aware of just how much trouble he was in. "I know you're the Irate Pirate and I know you're partially responsible for this massive traffic jam." Replica gave him a look that indicated that there was no way would be able to talk his way out of denying it. "I also know that you didn't do this alone. If you want to get off easy I recommend you tell me and my associates who gave you that hacker app you used on the traffic AI."

    Gridlock!

It seemed like fortune was smiling on Replica today. Not only had she somehow survived maneuvering through the mother of a traffic jams but she also managed to reach the Starbase cafe just in time to catch the hacker about to leave! The hacker himself didn't exactly fit the image of an evil supergenius hacker and looked like an average young man likely in his early twenties by the assessment of Replica's scanners. If she had any doubts that the Irate Pirate wasn't the true instigator of all this chaos they were gone now that she saw the man, boy really, in person. Seeing that he was thumbing with his bicycle look, Replica sprinted towards him and attempted to grab his hand. It might have been a bit much given the situation but this boy's actions could have caused the deaths of many Freedomites and Replica wanted to teach him that idiocy had consequences.

You know what? Let's get nuts! Replica decides to use the WEST car and try to avoid the gridlock with her driving skills. Such as they are... Drive: Avoid traffic: 1d20+8 28 It's a miracle! My first natural 20!

    Gridlock!

Three options were available to Replica by her calculation. One. We could go on foot like Simmons suggested. I would take the longest amount of time and it was obvious that North couldn't be able to keep pace with the young Simmons or the tireless Replica. Two. She could just "borrow" a bike or motorcycle from a nearby Freedomite but even given the situation Replica was adverse to doing that. Even logical robots didn't like heroes that exploited circumstances to take things from civilians. That left her with one option. Replica made her decision. "I believe it would be prudent for us to take WEST car to the Starbase cafe. We may need the equipment within it and I believe I can drive us out of the gridlock." While her abilities allowed her to access any electronic device she still would prefer for Simmons and North to have access to their own equipment in case she needed help. The two scientists in question looked apprehensive about the decision but ultimately agreed to the plan and followed Replica into the car. The android turned the key in the ignition and prepared herself for what could be a very... interesting drive.

    Gridlock!

The new stream of information that had entered Replica's digital consciousness like an epitaph or revelation. It made sense now! The laughable hacker she had been forced to deal with was skilled but ultimately nowhere at the caliber of hacking an AI made by ASTRO Labs. There had to be a a third party involved that was masterminding all the events that had occurred so far. Perhaps it was the true AI that West had feared? Theories aside, Replica had to relay everything she had learned from her fight with the Irate Pirate and track the subpar hacker down and learn more about this mysterious ap of theirs! Replica did just that. Unplugging herself from the traffic AI's cyberspace was a heck of a lot more easier than going in the first place and the android found yourself back in the large basement in a literal flash with North and Simmons looking at her with concern. "I know where the hacker is. He's in a Starbase cafe no more than two blocks from here. We're going to have to move fast to catch him before he makes a break for it. I'll brief both of you about the details on the way."

    Roomies!

Astrid had been halfway getting this and that out of her duffel bag when Nicole made her presence now. It was a good thing to that she arrived when she did because Astrid was about fish out her headphones and blast some Enslaved in her ears to make unpacking a bit more exciting. If she had it would probably would have taken a megaphone for her to hear anything but viking metal. Letting go of the duffel bag she took Nicole's hand and gave her a strong (but not too strong) handshake. Giving hardy handshakes was point of pride in Asgard, and while Astrid had been trying to tone down the Asgardian know that she was back on Earth stuff like that slipped though every once in a while. Taking the opportunity to finally get a good look at her new roomie, Astrid realized that she was actually pretty tall and likely would have been almost as tall her if not for the chair. She also noticed she was wearing a pretty nice placid dress, but the thing that truly drew her eye was the glasses she was wearing. Something about them just felt... familiar but different at the same time and Astrid didn't know why. Figuring that being caught staring at her glasses would be a pretty bad start to their cohabitation Astrid decided that it was about the right time to let go of her hand and start opening her trap. "Well, I couldn't figure what to leave behind out a home so I decided to just bring everything with me," she replied using good old sarcasm. A part of Astrid worried that her Norwegian accent might be too thick, but pushed the concern aside as baseless first meeting jitters. She always had to a gift for languages and had already meet a couple Americans that seemed to understand her just fine. Besides, she had a feeling that the girl in front of her was smart enough to get through language barriers with ease. "The name's Astrid. Astrid Torsten officially, but most of my old friends just called me Thursday. You're Nicole Whitfield-Hall, ja?"

"Did you just pull that pistol out of your..." Replica couldn't help it. She put a hand to cover her mouth, which was fighting to keep another round of wild laughter from escaping. Fortunately, doing so did not distract her from the Irate's Pirates second attack. Like she did before, the android deftly avoided the giant cannon ball with a superhuman nimbleness that left the pirate dumbfounded. That expression would change it horror as after the cannon safely passed by into a digital abyss Replica let go of her hand and unleashed the full force of her once restricted laughter. The explosion of cyber-sonic vibrations deafened the pirate and literally swept him off his feet pulling off into whatever counted as a ceiling in the cyberspace.

Replica knew almost every human language on Earth, and that obviously included French. So when she heard the Irate Pirate's horrifically fake French accent, a mix of disgust and amusement overwhelmed her and almost distracted her from the pirate's lunge. Almost. It appeared that Replica was just as agile in cyberspace as she was in meat-space as she deftly managed to avoid the absurd pirate's attack by spinning away from him only to turn around and kick in the back while he did a double-take. He landed most ungracefully on his on face, letting out a rather colorful curse as he did. The spectacle was such an embarrassing sight that the android likely would have felt the new emotion of guilt if not for the fact that she was once again laughing uncontrollably. The Irate Pirate had managed to get himself standing again and the expression on his face was one of naked red rage. It looked as if he was preparing to make another attack, but the laughter had suddenly gotten so loud that he couldn't help but cover his ears against the sonic attack. The tortuous laughter had been Replica's doing. Since she had found her way past ICE a subroutine had been trying to figure out how she could code an unique cyber-attack in case one was necessary. Originally she brainstormed the attack as being represented in cyberspace as a bolt of lightning, but somehow her current emotional state had influenced the code and turned her attack into a deadly cyber-cacophony of laughter! Given the current circumstances Replica had little problem with this.

    Roomies!

August 29, 2018 Claremont Academy (Rita Kord Dorm, Room 411) To say getting into Clarement Academy on move-in day could be hectic was possibly the grandmother of all understatements. The Rita Kord dorm had become a storm of activity. Students both new and returning were coming in and out of its walls in all manner of directions and methods. Speedsters were racing to get to their rooms, teleporters were popping in and out with their supplies, phasers nonchalantly passing through walls and people, flyers attempting to avoid the congestion on the floor only find out they weren't the only one's with that idea. In a word, it was chaos. And Astrid loved it. Easily holding a massive overstuffed duffel bag in one hand and her favorite guitar in the other, Astrid made her way through all the madness with a grin on her face. Asgard had been chaotic too, but there was a sameness to all that wonder. As strange as seeing giants, valkyries, dwarves and gods together was they all kind of clicked to together to make a whole that had its own internal logic and theme. Claremont, on the other hand, was just plain mad in Astrid's eyes. Everything and everyone seemed to keep from different worlds, each with its own unique theme. The school was diverse in the truest sense of the word, with super-geniuses, mutants, aliens, Atlanteans, and yes, Asgardians walking around every which way. Despite it all Astrid felt a there was sense of koselig here, a feeling of cozy belonging that permeated across the whole dorm as she made her way through it. It might have just been wishful thinking, but Astrid's gut told her it was genuine. When she finally made it to her new home in Room 411 she broke the dorm room in by causally flicking her duffel bag to one of the room's beds and gently putting her guitar there as well. Astrid was told that she would have a roomie to share the dorm with. Was it a Nicole Whitfield-Hall or a Nicole Whitefield-Hall? As Astrid began to unzip her duffel bag and unpack she wondered what kind of person this Nicole was. Looking at her guitar for a moment, Astrid certainly hoped she was someone who liked heavy metal.

Given the ICE system's manifestation as a storm Replica shouldn't been to surprised by a pirate showing up, but she quite frankly couldn't help herself. To say this was unexpected would be an underestimate. It was absurd. It was illogical. It was... downright hilarious! Replica abruptly stood up from the white chair she'd found yourself, looked the pirate directly in the eyes, and for the first time in her relatively short life laughed out loud. It was a bonafide belly laugh and the android had to steady herself so that she wouldn't collapse onto the floor. This... this was new amazing! She'd never felt this was before. Sure in her lab she'd test mimicking the biophysics of laughing but this was genuine and came with a mix of emotions that she had only read about before. She knew that she had to compose herself. That she had to talk to this pirate character and learn of his origins and motivates for hacking the traffic program but it would take several seconds before she was even able to look at him without fighting a chuckle. When the last of the laughter had left her and she was able to talk again Replica only had a few words to say in her normal robotic monotome. " I don't suppose you'd be willing to look past what just happened and lower your rapier so we could talk it out would you?"

Would convincing an AI that's its malfunctioning require a Computers or Diplomacy check?
  14. Cubismo

    Gridlock!

Well, that was certainly alarming. Replica ran the possibilities through her cognitive processor as quickly as possible. This AI seemed determined to kill possibly hundreds of humans and she needed answers for why fast! While thousands of possibilities were created, assessed and discarded only two managed to pass enough scrutiny to be 87.9% likely given what information the android currently had assess to. The first possibility was that this was indeed a self-aware AI, albeit a very corrupt one, that was simply lying to her about being not being self-aware. The second was that the AI had been hacked by a malicious hacker that somehow changed its system directives. Either or, it had to be stopped. But how? Trying to brute force her away into its systems had been unpleasant to say the least. Perhaps a more diplomatic approach was called for? "Self-aware or not, you must stop your current activities. You are programmed to manage traffic, yes? Maximizing human casualties is the exact opposite of your intended function. Do a diagnostic of your systems or check your backlogs. This is not what you're supposed to be doing and you must correct the error you've made."
  15. @Fox Ah, now I see the skill problem now. Should be fixed. The container's correct PP has changed as well.
  16. @Fox I believe I got the Combat and Powers issues fixed. The Skill issue I'm not getting. I'm counting them up (after I got rid of 1 Language rank) and I'm getting 53, not 46. I even put the sheet into HeroLab and I'm still getting 53. What am I missing? Thanks for appreciating the magic Asgardian baseball bat by the way.

    Gridlock!

That had been... arduous to say the least. While "feeling" anything in cyber-space was something of a misnomer. Replica did feel as if she'd gone through quite an ordeal. Doing the literal cyberspace equivalent of weathering a massive storm at sea only to fall through a trapdoor could do that. Replica might have been able to logically appreciate the "humor" of the situation if not for that fact she was smack dab in the middle of it. The android took some of her long blonde hair and squeezed some of the "water" out of it. It wasn't her really her body obviously but if she was going to have a chat with a possibly malicious AI she wasn't going to look completely soaked while she did it. Speaking of which. "Yes. Thank you for the warm welcome, Application." Replica didn't usually do sarcasm, but given the situation she decided to indulge in the human tradition. "I have question for you, Application. One. What is your major malfunction? Your systems appear to be acting erratically. It has become a danger to the humans dependent on your systems being functional and that needs to stop." Is was as much a question and an ultimatum, Replica knew, but going through a hurricane had made her understandably impatient. "Two. Are you self-aware? Have you made these system decisions on your own volition?" This time her voice had softened. It might not have made a big difference to getting her answers, but Replica felt compelled to do so. If this was indeed another AI she didn't want to make another of her kind afraid of what it was.
  18. Alright I made some changes to the text, @Avenger Assembled.
  19. Alright. Rage is going to be nixed and replaced with something else. As I understand it trollhumper there are multiple Thor's in the Freedomverse or there theoretically can be. The Thor I had in mind was a bit more down to Earth, so to speak, and was more like the mythological Thor, a defender on mankind.

(113 kg) Eyes: Blue Hair: Red Physical Appearance Astrid takes after her father, possessing the same fiery red hair and fierce blue eyes as the God of Thunder. From her mother she inherited a rural comeliness and a row of light freckles that decorate her cheeks and nose. Having had a rough and tumble childhood growing up in her hometown of Risør, Astrid has always been been in decent shape and ready for a fight, but after training in the practice yards of Valhalla she's become athletic. Similarly, while she's always been tall, learning about her heritage has seemingly caused her to go through another growth spurt that allows her to tower over most girls her age. While itching to be a hero, Astrid doesn't really possess a superhero costume and much prefers her own wardrobe of causal wear than classic form-fitting spandex when fighting the forces of evil. That said, she does make a habit of ensuring that whatever she wears while crime-fighting or monster-slaying at least has the symbol of a thunderbolt or hammer somewhere on it. Her favorite "battledress" and the closest thing she has to a superhero costume is a rune-inscribed black-leather jacket with a large thunderbolt symbol on the front. While Astrid has a distinct southern Norwegian accent its been influenced by her travels across Europe, and recently the States. It's not uncommon for her to pepper her words with not only her home country's slang but that of other countries she's visited as well. While Astrid has a brash and straightforward way of talking that can be quite intimidating when she's in a berserker rage, she's usually laid-back and friendly, and can be even be downright motherly when she's around her younger brother. When she's acting as an agent of Asgard she plays up the Viking warrior princess attitude, ironically mimicking a hero from a medieval play and throwing out "nays" and "thines" for the hell of it. History Astrid was born in a sleepy small town in Norway that most people have never heard of and she’d like to forget about. While her childhood wasn't perfect it was a mostly happy one. Her parents loved her and while her father would disappear for months at a time he'd always come back eventually. Until he didn't. When that happened everything changed. Her mother fall into a depression and once she started using alcohol to self medicate things only got worse. When her mother wasn't blaming her for her father leaving she was berating her being just like him. Eventually Astrid started running away from home whenever things got too bad with her mother. At first she'd try to find her father when she did, but as she got older the futility of doing so and her own growing resentment against him caused her to simply travel around aimlessly. Consequently, her biggest role models growing up were her friends in similar domestic situations and the burned-out rockers that she would see performing in bars whenever she runaway to a large town. The cycle of running away and crashing with friends, only to come back for one reason or another, finally came to an end when her mother died in a car accident during a thunderstorm while looking for her. Filled with grief and guilt over not resolving her differences with her mother and terrified of what the future would hold without her, Astrid purposely got into a random brawl that quickly went too far. Fortunately for her, a Valkyrie came to her rescue and whisked away to Asgard. The Valkyrie was sent by none other than Thor, the God of Thunder and her long lost father. He explained that he was a Thor from a another Midgard that had to come her's to circumvent a Pact that prevented the gods from his world from interfering with humanity. By doing so he could return to his favorite hobby of quietly slaying monsters that secretly threatened the world, even it if wasn't his own. He also explained how he unexpectedly fell in love with Astrid's mother and started a family with her, only to have to leave back to his world or risk the ire of Odin himself. When Astrid's mother dead the Odinson thought it necessary to finally intervene in her life again. While his explanations didn't do much to calm her, Astrid did accept his offer to let her and her brother live in Asgard to hone their developing powers. After going though some Asgardian training Astrid returned to her Midgard so that she could finish her education while her brother opted to stay in Asgard and be with the father he hardly knew. Given that Astrid was a bonafide demigoddess the only the place that could possibly finish her training was a school in the USA. Personality & Motivation Rebellious, bold, impulsive, stubborn, brash, crass and far too willing to get into a brawl if someone sets off one of her neuroses, Astrid is someone whose fun to be around but can quickly become unbearable if set off by something. A lot of these issues are a consequence of her father's abrupt disappearance and her mother's subsequent slide into depression and alcoholism. Her mother's death, the revelations about her father's true nature, and becoming her brother's guardian has prompted a positive change in her though. While still prone to brashness, Astrid has learned to rein in a lot of her worse impulses, becoming more responsible and reflective about her faults. Furthermore her new responsibilities have given her a sense of direction and purpose that was non-existent beforehand. Her primary motivation is providing for her little brother, Anders, which in out itself is motivated by her desire to alleviate her guilt of not being around when he needed her when their mother was still alive. Everything else, including being an agent of Asgard, going to Claremont Academy and her pursuit of a music career is secondary to that. Astrid has a thing for 80s American culture, particularly its era of heavy metal music, horror films, and fashion. She used to play baseball when she was younger and has found having a good back-swing immensely useful when fighting monsters. She hates to admit it, but behind her "cool girl" mystique Astrid has a wide-eyed love of history and folk music. While she's most knowledgeable about Nordic history she enjoys learning about the folk songs, customs, and traditions of other cultures as well. Powers & Tactics Hit the bad guys with Þórrklubba until they give up or go splat. That's Astrid primary tactic, and it usually works, but when she's separated from her bat she typically relies on her fists to pummel or grapple whatever gets in her way. Although she went through some training while in Asgard, and knows some of the basic techniques of the ancient Norse martial art Glima, Astrid fighting style mostly takes after her experience with street and bar fights. As such, headbutts, groin attacks and eye-poking are perfectly acceptable tactics in her mind. Power Descriptions As the half-human daughter of almighty Thor, Astrid naturally possess many of the superhuman physical traits that characterize the Aesir. She's incredibly strong, being capable of various astonishing feats of strength, like lifting a jötunn over her head without strain, leaping vast distances in a single bound and pulverizing foes with just her fists. The daughter of Thor is likewise quite durable being able to resist attacks that would outright kill a normal human and do some without being no worse for wear. Furthermore, Astrid shares the Aesir's natural immunities to extreme heat, cold and even disease, having never been sick a day in her life. Along with her natural gifts Astrid also wields Þórrklubba, a warclub forged in Niðavellir by the legendary dwarven weaponsmiths Eitri and Brokkr as a gift from her father. Þórrklubba is a magical weapon and with it Astrid can call upon the primordial forces of the firmament, striking foes with bolts of lightning, summoning icy rainstorms, and even allowing herself to fly. Þórrklubba also acts as Astrid's key to the Bifröst, granting her passage to the Nine Realms, along with the ability to teleport short distances in a flash of multi-colored light. While a devastating weapon Þórrklubba looks from a distance as just a large baseball bat. This is by design as Astrid wanted a weapon that wouldn't be to conspicuous in public. Up close, Þórrklubba is a martial masterpiece, a silvery club beautifully inscribed by golden Nordic runes that infrequently crackles with magical static energies. Complications: Responsibilities: As a child of mighty Thor, Astrid has a sacred duty to Asgard and is obligated to serve the Aesir whenever they need something done on Midgard. Big Sister: While Astrid's little brother Anders is as much a demigod as her is and safe in Thor's hall in Asgard, Astrid considers herself his true guardian and will go into a panicked rage if she learns something has happened to him while she was away on Midgard. Nazis!: Besides the obvious reasons, Astrid really, really hates Nazis due to them exploiting the power of her Earth's Aesir during WW2. She's also quite peeved that their Neo-Nazis descendants infiltrated the Nordic heavy metal scene and will go into a berserker rage whenever she confronts villains that share their twisted ideology. Culture Clash: While something of an americaphile, Astrid isn't aware of many of the culture's social taboos and honestly wouldn't really care about breaking them even if she did. Daddy Issues: Has an extremely complicated relationship with her father. His excuses for why he left his mortal family have never satisfied her and she partially blames him for her mother's death. Violence Is The Best Answer: She's getting better at it, but Astrid still believes that violence is usually the best answer when it comes to most problems, especially when it comes to fighting villainy, and tends to resort to it as a first response unless someone can talk her out of it. Gridlock!

Replica had never experienced any like this. She'd cracked into secure systems before but this was different. The resistance she encountered was... palpable for lack of a better word. It was as if she was tunneling through a wall of steel just to get pass the initial anti-intrusion protocols that protected the core. When she barely managed to accomplish that, the android felt as if she had been hit by a thunderbolt before she could even recover from that initial ordeal. In fact, she was hit by thunderbolt, or a at least virtual simulation of one. She had entered the core's inner cyberspace and it was like nothing she ever scene before. Usually the cyberspace of machines were nothing but an expanse of one's and zero's but what she was seeing right now was an ocean in the gripes of a hurricane. She could hear thunder everywhere and the rain was going down heavily and without stop. The clouds were pitch black and the winds were howling. It was chaos, but Replica managed to create a foothold in the form an island. It was the closest thing she had to safe harbor.
