  3. When she saw that some of the other beach-goers were getting ready to set up a game of volleyball, Astrid shot up from where she was sitting with a smile on her face that many people would rightfully see as a bit crazed. It took her all of five seconds to disregard her jacket and short jeans in pile and shift into the position. With her eyes on the court and her legs primed for the jump Astrid made a short running charge and leaped towards the volleyball court. When she landed with on the beach sand momentarily rose into the air spreading this way and that with some even getting in her hair. Astrid just shuck it off like it was nothing and declared her intentions. "So you guys are playing volleyball, ja?" Astrid asked eagerly. "If so, count me in! It's not baseball, but I still get to hit things, which is almost always fun." Before anyone could even respond to her Astrid walked up to the boy she had just seen flying himself and gave him a good slap on the back. "That was impressive! I've seen giants who couldn't even leap that far." Astrid paused for a moment, putting her head to the side. "Unless you are a giant? You're certainly tall enough to be one, that's for sure!" She said half-seriously.

    Assemble!

Well that was one hell of a turnaround. Was this just how American schools operated. Hit them with the bad news first and immediately come back with something they might find not to bad. Given how Astrid could hear everyone chat among themselves over excitement when just a minute ago when they were groaning it seemed to be effective. To Astrid though it felt manipulative and made her think of her mother in a way that just put a bad taste in her mouth. She signed. Best not to think about that or I'll be angry all day. She tried to think about the silver-lining to all this. Sure she wouldn't be allowed to go on the town whenever the hell she damned well pleased but she at least she'd she get to have a squad to hang out while she was stuck here. Astrid put her hand to her cheek. Then again, she thought, this could just be the Headmistress' way of pairing rebellious people off with students that who would be inclined to abiding by the rules, thus making it a whole lot easier to keep them in check? It was paranoid, sure, and even Astrid had to admit it was kind of a conspiracy theory but in a school like Claremont it didn't seem that crazy.

    Gridlock!

A direct hit with that RPG could well of kill them both at close range! Whatever this Red Dawn group was to call them extremists would have been an understatement if it was able garner this much fanatical loyalty from its members. Replica would have investigate this group after she put this mad man down. The RPG was a bulky, awkward weapon to be sure and Replica had to maneuver her body it just the right around the Russian if she wanted to take it from him without setting it off and blowing the pair of them off. Still, Replica lunged at the soldier with one hand attempting to force the RPG's grenade head upwards while the other slammed into his shoulder.

Welp. Since Comms Guy tried to do it to me I might as well turn to favor. I'm going to make an Attack and then use Improved Grab to immediately try and Grapple him and then try to throw with at the RPG Guy. I think I can do that as a full-round action, correct? Gridlock!

The Sambo was beautifully performed by Replica's assessment. All the interlocking techniques were applied correctly to create a maneuver that should have put her in a tight grapple. Unfortunately, for the soldier attempting to armlock an android with super-strength is a non-starter of a tactic. The Russian's slam into her elbow didn't even as much as scratch her exposed chassis and his attempt at locking her arm was easily broken out of with Replica only needing to flex her artificial muscles to break his grasp and push him away with her other hand, leaving him more than a little frustrated. Being inspired by the solider's attempt at restricting her, Replica decided that she could potentially end this fight with a grappling maneuver of her own. Closing the distance she just made with the Russian, Replica shot out her hands and tried to grab the solider's own hand and his elbow while at same time using her leg to kick him off his feet.

Even with more than a few dents in her chassis the soldiers knife couldn't cut hyperalloy metal and didn't even leave a scratch when it tried to cut into her. That didn't matter though. What did was that the Torch Cutter had managed to make a hole in the van albeit a small one. Through none of the soldiers would be able to climb into it still left the Darwin-X vulnerable to exposure. A prospect dangerously possible with random gunfire still occurring. She had to put the torch-cutter out of commission for the rest of this fight before he had a chance to make that hole any bigger. She took small step back to her some space and took another swing at the soldier.

    Gridlock!

Replica had to cut off her call with North short because another bombardment of shells were coming her way. Once again she tried to move nimbly move herself out of the way. And once again she failed. The damage wasn't as devastating this time around but Replica's chassis had been breached once again in another location and she was lacking coolet now. She didn't need to do a diagnostic to know that things were getting bad for her really fast. She had the posses of mind to calculate that the Comm's officer had run out of ammo and that the one cutting though the door was nearly finished his task. Things had reached a critically point and she had to think fast. The Darwin-X was the whole reason any of this was happening and ensuring its safety was vital. With the Comm officer out of ammo and the soldier with the RPG barely concious, Replica assessed that their immediate threat level had been lowered and that it was time to stop the cutter. Replica put her servos into overdrive made a dash towards the torch cutter through the gridlock, her fist primed for the attack.

    Roomies!

A simple amazed "huh" was all Astrid could muster when she saw Nicole at work doing whatever the Hel she was doing to her bat. Astrid thought that she'd at least take a minute to think on deal but it seemed like her new roommie wasn't someone who took a while to come to a decision. She was also kind of pushy but Astrid found it oddly familiar and endearing. Letting her friend nerd out on her bat, Astrid listened to some Adorned Brood on her iphone while she finished unpacking and sorting out of her clothes, music equipment and other random stuff. Every couple of minutes Nicole would have some weird new question about Porrklubba and Astrid did her best to answer them. Astrid had a couple questions of her own about Nicole knowledge of magic and they managed to have a sporadic conversation about the subject while they both set about doing their tasks. It was nice. Weird. But nice. In end it made Astrid think that this whole superhero highschool thing would work out and this first meeting between her and Nicole could just be the beginning of a beautiful friendship... Or a horrible disaster. She'd just have to wait and see. Either way, it would be interesting.

    Gridlock!

Immediately Replica recognized that she had made a miscalculation. Even though she'll managed to knockout one of the soldiers she allowed herself to be left wide in the open for some else to take a clean shot against her! She tried to make a spin on her feet and deftly avoid the shells racing towards but even her superhuman reflexes couldn't avoid the well-aimed rifle shots. Several slugs suddenly impacted her body and ripped through artificial tissues and hit her internal chassis. Usually guns were ineffective against her but these shells must have been something shell because they managed to damage her and leave small craters in her chassis. Fortunately, Replica was still operational and was able to give North a quick response. "I've engaged four Russian soldiers attempting to steal the Darwin-X."
  21. Astrid had just come to the party. She only heard about it at the last minute and wasn't sure that she even wanted to come. A mansion party near the beach didn't feel like her scene. Especially since she totally still didn't real really know the Dangers that well. Eventually though she decided swimming would be pretty cool and figured that there was a decent chance that some good-looking guys or gals might be there. She decided to begrudgingly tone the rocker look a bit for the party, wearing a pretty sweet black bomber jacket with lightning bolts on the back, her favorite ripped short jeans and a black swinsuit underneath it all. It was simple causal and most importantly wouldn't scare anyone here. Probably. Americans could be such prudes sometimes. Astrid walked onto to the beach with her typical devil-may-care attitude and looked around for anyone who seemed liked they'd be even mildly interesting to talk too. She didn't plan on getting into the water quite yet. Not until she manged to find someone fun willing to go in with her first.

"Right, sure thing," Astrid said, trying to sound cool with it. Even through she respected that Elizabeth wanted to listen to the Headmistress, she couldn't help but be kind of disappointed. Astrid definitely would much rather talk card tricks and superpowers than whatever this Headmistress lady had to say. After a minute though she thought better of it though. She was new here after all and learning whatever she could about his school was in her best interest. Plus, this Headmistress was a lot more intimidating than pretty much all the instructors he had back in Norway and Astrid couldn't help but feel that she sort of demanded her attention if not respect. So, she listened to what she had to say. It didn't take long for Astrid to start cringing at what she was being told. She wasn't around when the Terminus invasion happened but she could see some of the remaining wreckage of that fight and could definitely understand why Claremont would want to up their security. But this whole curfew business immediately rubbed Astrid the wrong way and it was hard for her to not start rolling her eyes. Astrid liked her freedom and while she was willing to reasonably limit herself sometimes she sure as Hel wasn't going to just accept a curfew and bunch of restrictions on where she was allowed to go.
  23. Sure I think Astrid would be into it.

    Roomies!

"Oh I guess having a magic baseball is kind cool, I guess," she said doing a pretty bad job of feigning humility. Honestly, Astrid was kind of love in with Porrklubba. Talking about her past in Norway and first meeting with her father always put her in a funk for obvious reasons, but gushing about Porrklubba was always cheered her up even though she was kind of self-conscious about babbling on and on about a crazy Asgardian bat. But hey, Nicole looked pretty interested so why go Fan Girl about Asgardian craftsmanship? Astrid causally picked up Porrklubba and showed it off to Nicole. "It's kind of a long story but basically my dad wanted to have a weapon made for me and so he got two dwarves to make one for me," she told her, being completely honest. "It's power comes from ancient runic magic. Inscriptions of power that channel empyreal power that holds the Nine Realms and bestows the warriors of Asgard with power over forces of nature and magic." She only realized she had been starring at the bat and not Nicole after she finally stopped talking to take a breath. That happened sometimes. When she wielded Porrklubba she could zone out and forget everything around here and just focus on the weapon in her hands. It was weird and borderline creepy but getting into the zone had saved her a couple times when she first got into the warrior girl of Asgard business, so she tried to think nothing of it. Shaking her head a little, Astrid tried to just go back into the conversation and pointedly put Porrklubba back on the bed. "I know that's a lot of to take but you probably know more about the nitty-gritty metaphyics of all this stuff than I do," she admitted. It was true. Asgardian magical theory on runes wasn't exactly her forte. Fighting giants and rocking out was. Speaking of which... "Tell you what. I'll let you study Porrklubba whenever I'm not using it if you're welling to let me rock out here every one and a while? I'll divvy up the cash to buy those ear plugs and even help you soundproof the room!" She was being half-serious, of course, but she did hope that music wouldn't be an issue. She did tend to great pretty loud after all.
