  3. "Steikje! Judy totally just spoiled my introduction," Astrid said, feigning sincerity as she walked towards the trio. "I was going to start my intro by talking about my tragic backstory before finally telling you my name at the very end for dramatic effect. It was going to be awesome but now its ruined forever." She shot Judy a fake scowl and shuck her head for added effect. "Oh well. Guess your just going to have to miss out. Anyways the name's Astrid like you heard, but people back home used to call me Thursday." Astrid shrugged. "You call me either or if you want." She took a seat beside the three girls, getting herself comfortable before quickly scanning the mostly finished puzzle for matching pieces. She didn't really know much about America's superheros besides the major ones and so a couple of the heroes displayed in the puzzle name's and powers were lost on her. She had to admit she wasn't terribly interested in learning about them either, much preferring to get to know the people around her right now. "I'm on the Orange Team... Danica? That's your name, right? Sorry if I got it wrong. I've seen you couple times here and there but never got to talk you. Until anyway." She turned to Ashley then. The demigoddess had no clue what climbed up her raev and died but Ashley always seemed have a scowl on her face while her sister seemed pretty cool. It was kind of annoying, not least of all because it reminded Astrid of herself and no one liked seeing their less than stellar traits thrown back at them. "Hey Ashley," she greeted, trying hard not to sound caustic and failing. "You having a rough night or is this puzzle a harder than I thought?"

Replica While they were transit back to the United States Replica did whatever she could to help Synapse confirm her suspicions about the Sleepers involvement in the case. She answered questions about the Russian soldiers behavior during her confrontation with them and described any strange ticks and gestures she saw amongst them. When they finally touched down back in Freedom City they went immediately to the soldiers containment so Synapse could make her evaluation. Seeing the soldiers again was a curious experience she had to admit. While the android held no particular grudge against, especially given they were brainwashed, she did still feel strangely cautious around them and was prepared to activate her combat mode in case they suddenly succumbed to their brainwashing again. The chances of that happening were low with Synapse monitoring them but Replica was prepared nevertheless.
  5. Astrid walked into the common room more bored than she thought humanly possible. She had been walking the around the campus for about a half-and-a-hour now and the experience was the perfect example of an exercise in frustration. There was nothing to do here! Most of the other students were sleeping or hanging out in their rooms by Astrid's estimate and it had turned much of the campus into a ghost town devoid of anyone she could talk too. It took Astrid more patience and caution then she knew she had to stop herself from simply fly over Claremont's walls or teleport the Hel out of there with Porrklubba to enter the city and find something interesting to do. Hitting up a club or bar in the Theater District would have been her first choice. She had heard that Freedom City had a pretty good music scene and nightlife and Astrid saw as a golden opportunity to not only have fun but also get in good with the city's local movers and shakers in the music biz. But no. She had to suffer some absurd curfew. Astrid signed. She knew she was being whiny but she couldn't help it. She felt like she was in a cage and it made her feel a bit stir crazy. That's why she came down to the common room after her pointless stroll. She thought the place would have been abandoned like everywhere else and hoped that she'd be able to play a few riffs of her guitar in silence there. But as Astrid looked up and saw that Ashley, Judy and another girl she'd seen on campus a couple times (Danny, Danielle, Danica?) were already there she made a quiet blessing to Hamingja and the Allfather and decided that playing music all on her ownwas not how she was going to spend her evening. "Hey," she hailed loudly. "What are you guys doing? Solving some puzzle?" Puzzle solving wasn't exactly Astrid's favorite hobby but at this point she'd do anything if it involved actually talking to someone. "Can I join you lot?"
  6. Seeing Kam catch her return at the last second Astrid couldn't help but be a impressed even as she cursed under her breath. He was good. All of them were actually. Her teammate behind her having been especially surprising. The guy was definitely a team player and made sure that Astrid could be her typical aggressive self in the front while he played one Hel of a back blocker and supporter. Astrid made a mental note to give Micah a fist bump and maybe sneak him a drink after the game was over if he was willing to partake in the latter. The age limit was higher in the US then it was in Norway but wasn't as if ever stopped her before. Kam's return volley snapped her out of musing and got her body went back into ready mode as pushed herself back into the air and returned the ball to the other side of the net with a slam of her palm.

Replica Replica turned to Dr. North and gave him her best attempt at a sympathetic, if sarcastic, smile. "The loss of the jaccuzi is indeed a tragedy but I'd much prefer having the extra room for our computers and equipment if given the choice." Going back to Synpase the android returned to her more serious tone. "I'm relived to hear that you can help interrogate these soldiers. If I'm being honest we had run of out leads and would have hard-pressed to discover much else about these terrorists." With that admittance out of the way Replica regarded both her colleagues. "If that's it then, and were all in agreement, then I think its best we move out as quickly as possible. We don't know when Red Dawn and Mother Board will strike next and that has to be remedied as quickly as possible."

    Crack the Anvil

Good, Replica thought. The civilians were using their attack to make their escape. If they were lucky they'd be able to use the rubble as cover and slowly make their way from the battlefield without being scene by the Omegadrones. Estimating that the best way she could ensure that would happen was by making herself so much of a threat that the surrounding Omegadrones would be forced to focus all their efforts on her and her compatriots, Replica readied her combat computer for another attack on the Omegadrone she was facing. With the Omegadrone still disoriented and bound by her steely grasp, Replica delivered another kick its torso. She them let him go from her grasp, but only for a second, so she could slam the full force of her artificial body into the creature. Now prone and the ground, Replica put her elbow into its chest to keep him there while she reeled back and started to land a series of punch on the downed monster while on top of him.
  9. "I'm right there with you Lulu," Astrid practically roared. Not only was she hungry as all Hel, but she was curious and excited to chow down on some authentic American food. Sure Norway had a bunch of American fast food places in its major cities, but Astrid spent much of her life in a rural town in the middle of nowhere. So besides a handful of times, usually when she ran away from home, she never really had the opportunity to enjoy the best artery clogging meals America had to offer. Even with just being in the lobby Astrid could smell sizzling burgers and nacho cheese and it was starting to make her impatient to say the least. She turned to the rest of Team Tang, that was what was calling their team and she dared anyone tell her different, and made her announcement. "Alright, Team Tang. Are we going to get some food first or are going to get some bowling in before that? I vote for food first. I'm bloody starving!"

Replica processed all the new information Synapse just provided. She knew about the strange events that occurred during the 2014 Winter Olympics, but of course, didn't know about the strange details involved for the Russians getting disqualified. The more interesting tadbits though was the involvement of Doctor Zero and this Sleeper character. A psychic influencing the Russian soldiers she had fought would not only explain their complete lack of memory of what they had done once they were capture, but also their fanatic devotion to completing their mission. There was a connection here, Replica was sure of that. It was only a matter of unraveling it to get to the truth. Once the processing was done Replica nodded her head in understanding. It was one those human gestures he had picked up over time. "Thank you for the information, Synapse," she said cordially. "I believe you are right in your assessment that the Sleeper's involvement in the Darwin-X attack is likely given the nature of his powers. Furthermore it seems more than likely that Red Dawn is a Russian terrorist group in origin." "Perhaps the Freedom City attack was made because this Doctor Zero wanted another batch of Darwin-X at his disposal? Or maybe he wished to expose it immediately to the populace of Freedom City as a terrorist attack against the US? He is a Soviet super-soldier perhaps the Cold War isn't quite over in his eyes?" Replica signed. Another human gesture, one that he been using more and more in recent days. "This all theory of course. Without much hard evidence to back it up." The android looked to Synapse then. "But perhaps we can find some using your powers? It is possible for you to use your telepathy to probe the minds of our captives to see if there's any evidence of the Sleeper and Doctor Zero being responsible for their brainwashing?"

Replica "My name is Replica." She replied in her usual monotone while taking Synapse's hand and giving it a firm shake. "It's like likewise a pleasure to meet you, Synapse." Replica didn't know much about Synapse besides the basics and her membership as part of the Vanguard. She supposed she could have her powers to find out more information about her, but ultimately decided against it. It was all well and good to use her abilities to learn everything she could about villains and terrorist groups but when it came to non-villains the android preferred not invading someone's privacy if it could be avoided. Besides, she could always ask Synapse herself if she had questions. Once the pleasantries were exchanged, Replica did just that. "How much has Dr. North told you about our investigation?"

  13. Group 3 "I get that," Astrid started, finally speaking up. Astrid moved her hand across the room of extraordinary students. "I get not wanting to deal with any of this weird crap." Connie's sudden outburst finally got Astrid's attention. If she was being honest she had been bored since Philosophy class started and had been mostly just sketching guitar designs in her notebook and sporadically putting down answers to the actual questions. She had her opinions on some of them, sure, but vague hypothetical questions rarely got her mind racing compared to more pragmatic and immediate concerns. Like for instance someone on her intramural team suddenly going into a fetal position and staring off into the distance. She didn't really get Connie's dual personality thing and how that related to her powers, but Astrid could definitely understand when someone needed a helping hand when they were going through some shit and she felt that had to do something about it. Plus, the closet nerd was pretty sure Connie consciously referenced Killer Clones From Outer Space, which her mind made her a person worthy of respect. "But like you said. You couldn't just let some rævtørk... I mean some crook, blackmail you into stopping being hero. That's your choice to make. Not his. So 'give in' I say when he tries to pull that crap on you."

Replica As they waited in the foyer for Synapse to arrive Replica shot Dr. North a concerned look while he was busy admiring the Vanguard's Headquarters. Replica didn't have to be a social butterfly to tell that Dr. North was more than a little shocked that they had been greeted by an AI. He had been trying to hide it of course, but it was painfully obvious to even her that the gridlock crisis in Freedom City had traumatized the good doctor more then he care to openly admit. His newfound paranoia didn't bother her necessarily. No, that couldn't be it that. He was just being understandably prudent in the face of a still pressing cyber threat that very well could have caused the deaths of hundreds of Freedomites. It was logical for him to be cautious about the potential risk of any AI being hacked and subverted by Red Dawn and Mother Board. But even with that rational Replica still felt somewhat betrayed and self-conscious by Dr. North's technophobia. Did he think that she was a danger as well? The android just shook her head and focused on why they were there. She could talk to Dr. North later once she and Synapse were done taking down Red Dawn.

Replica Replica didn't have much a chance to enjoy the WEST jet flight across the pond, despite it technically being the first she'd physically left the United States. No, she was far to busy still trying to find something, anything, on the Internet that gave her clues about Mother Board and Red Dawn. But even with the added benefit of time and state-of-the-art WEST scientific equipment, the android still had little to go on. Dr. North was right. They needed help. Someone who at the very least could look all this complied data with a fresh pair of optics. That thought was burning through Replica's artificial synapses even as she walked up with Dr. North to the Vanguard's HQ in London. We need help. Replica could only hope that Synapse was the person that could provide it and help stop whatever other plan of terrorism Red Dawn and this Mother Board character had planned.

    Gridlock!

Despite her data search ultimately coming out short the fact that mutual references to mother board and red dawn were non-existent on the entirety of the Internet was most certainly a red flag. It made sense that the mysterious hacker that gave the Irate Pirate the hacking app and the these Red Dawn terrorists were working together to steal the Darwin-X. It all being a coincidence would defy probability after all. But even with that information in hand it still left Replica with little to work with. At least until the three soldiers she knocked out were conscious enough to be questioned by WEST anyway. Until then she'd just have to hope that the approaching Dr. North had at least been able to learn something from the Irate Pirate and his hacking app.

Nah, I think Replica's gonna take beating 3 out of 4 goons as a win. She is going to use Online Research and Skill Mastery to learn what she can about Red Dawn though.

    Gridlock!

After handcuffing the still delirious and mumbling soldier Replica took a moment to look at his RPG, which was still laying where she had put it. Even if she decided to break her ethical protocols and use it to destroy the fleeing helicopter the chances of her actually hitting it were still depressingly slim her predictive models showed. Furthermore even she did there was a high probability that the downed craft would fall on top of pedestrians or gridlocked drivers. That was utterly unacceptable by Replica's standards and so she left the RPG where it was. When Replica heard North a few yards away from her position hailing her, she decided it was best to stay near the Darwin-X instead of rushing to meet him. It was always possible that other members of Red Dawn should show after all it would have been decidely embarrassing on Replica's part if she defeated the Russians only to lose the Darwin-X while she was distracted talking to Dr. North. "I am damaged but still standing, Dr. North," she responded. "The transport carrying the Darwin-X was attacked by an organization called Red Dawn. Besides them having Russians soldiers under their employ I know little else about them. Currently anyway." Seeing as the fight was over and she could finally focus finding out what this Red Dawn group was, Replica did just that using her technopathic abilities, combing through the Internet for any information on the group.
  19. The moment Astrid saw Kam toss the ball into the air, sending it flying into a forward arc, her whole body shifted into the ready position without her even having to consciously think to do so. She was balanced forward while her knees were bent and her arms out and ready to slam the volleyball right back on to the other side of the net. The reaction wasn't muscle memory, not exactly anyway. Besides playing the game a couple times in primary school Astrid didn't play that much volleyball, much preferring baseball and football. No, it was more like she just instinctual knew what to do once the game actually got started. The same thing happened whenever she was about to get into a serious fight with someone, or something. Her body just knew what it needed to do to get Astrid ready. The Aesir said the instinct was just natural part of being a Norse demigod and showed that she destined to be warrior. While Astrid had to admit that she did love to get into a scrap the idea that being a warrior was just a fundamental part of who she was one always made her nervous. She could be more than a hothead warrior fighting everything that got in her way, right? Stop angsting and get your head into the game, Astrid. The thought brought her back down to Earth. She could soul-search later. Right now she had to be the warrior. She ran up to the net and launched herself into the air to intercept the incoming ball. Controlling her strength so that she wouldn't overjump the ball or send it flying with such force that it ended up on the other side of the beach ended up being harder than actually blocking it because Astrid managed to send it back to the other side with a satisfying clap.

    Gridlock!

Despite rushing to catch him Replica saw the Comm officer 30 feet in the air from where he was just a few moments ago. Her scans told her that regardless of her inhuman strength she wouldn't be to jump high enough into the air to catch the soldier on the ladder and that odds of her shooting him down with an impoverished object were negligible. He was getting away and there was nothing Replica could do about it. Replica unconscious curled her fingers into a fist and for a few fractions of a second was lost to an emotion that she recently knew she had. The moment quickly passed though and Replica turned away from the fleeing helicopter. While most of the soldiers had been defeated, and the Darwin-X was safe in the van, the situation still wasn't over yet. The gridlock was still consuming the city as far as she knew and the mystery of what the Red Dawn was pending. Those two two issues had to be amended quickly, but first Replica had to determine whatever the lasting remaining soldier on the street was still conscious. Miraculously he was, if barely, but Replica doubted that he had much fight left in him. She had even greater doubts that he would be able to answer any of her questions about Red Dawn. Instead she closed on him quickly pulled out handcuffs from her utility belt.

Astrid knew she was being a bit aggressive, well, more aggressive than usually, but told herself it was necessary. She'd seen Micah enough around school to know his name and face, and from what little she had seen she pegged him as a shy guy. His gawking at Connie, who Astrid had to admit was smoking hot, and his hesitant tone didn't do much to change her initial assessment. Which is why she was putting it on a bit thick here. Micah needed some positive reinforcement something fierce and Astrid thought a good, old-fashioned trash-talk would do just that. Plus, she liked trashing talking in general.

    Gridlock!

After hearing her opponent's mumbled cry in defiance, which was being uttered through a very bloody mouth, Replica couldn't help but deliver a short pithy reply of her own. "<The facts say otherwise, comrade.>" With that Replica discard the soldier's RPG to free up both her hands and deliver a one-two punch of slamming one fist into his stomach and the other right under his chin. Not wanting to linger for another second on him while his compatriot tried to make his escape, Replica races towards the comm officer, weaving between gridlocked cars or outright jumping over them until she made it to him.
