  1. “Well, nice to hear a bit of the Hub’s accent down here.†Luke extended his hand to shake Morgan’s. “My name’s Luke Perrin, very nice too meet you. And… I swear I won’t make any joke about the backpack, my lips are sealed.†He covered his mouth with a hand and squinted in a passable imitation of the Hello Kitty face “Ok, that one slipped, sorry.†He was technically older than Morgan, but he was well aware that the last two years of his life weren’t likely to count; he was still a year behind him, he remembered, so maybe he should’ve dialed down the snark. “Seriously though, I don’t know your “rep†but I can’t wait to hear it†he bit his lip. Wow, way to suck up after a bad joke, Perrin. Real smooth! he thought to himself. How come he felt more at ease dealing with Lor Starfleet admirals than with high school?

  3. “We could…†replied Weaver “I think I could repeat the passage. However I am not eager to, definitely not unless you tell me moreâ€. He placated the excitement of the beggar by gently putting a hand on his forearm and pushing him back “We got into a secret place inside the Sphinx, but it was very stressful, and we haven’t recovered yet from what happened.†He checked on the professor sitting beside him in silence, to see how he was doing. “Frankly, I don’t know if I’ll ever recover completely.†Weaver fixed his eyes on the beggar’s uneven ones. He tried the most trustworthy and soothing voice he could manage “Listen, Ahmed, you are being tremendously helpful, and I think we have a chance of offering you justice by dealing with those weavers of fate. At the same time, we could accomplish what me and the professor came here for, something that I care so deeply, so completely, that to solve it I am prepared to suffer another shock like the one I just received and much, much worse.†“But you have to understand, I can’t follow you, I can’t help you, unless you tell me what we are looking for and how it is going to help. Please, friend. Tell me.â€

  5. The trip to Steam Manor was, for lack of a better term, awkward, even with Lord Steam continuously showing off the delightful mechanics of his vehicle to Lucy. Leviathan and Ewoma sat in the back, shoulder to shoulder, in a silence colder than the Ocean’s depths. Iobatus and Michelle sat beside them, in each other’s arms, and when Michelle tried to cheer up Ewoma by making conversation, the assistant lowered her eyes in silence, unable to withstand her friend’s gaze. They entered the magnificent residence in the same uncomfortable mood, just partly lightened by a reinvigorating afternoon tea and biscuits the Mansion’s staff had ready for their employer’s guests. Balancing masterfully his dues as a host and as the leading investigator, Lord Steam kept striking up conversation mostly about the retro and bizarre technology decorating his house. When the large clock on the wall, hundreds of brass gears and toothed wheels encased in the most exquisite mahogany, stroke 5 PM, he decided it was enough time spent on making his guests acclimate. Time to head to the forensic laboratory.

Reflex save 1d20+6 → [20,6] = (26) ok, wow. Two 20s in a row, that will never happen again.
  7. Supercape, you're a ref: does the policy require the opening of a third thread? If yes, where's Steam Mansion?
  8. Luke was prepared for a clumsy fight where everybody thought for themselves, but his heart filled with joy as he saw the young Aussie girl jumping around the mummy, making it turn around and leaving its left side wide open and unprotected. “Nice one, girl!†he yelled at Glow, hoping she would hear above the screams and noise. Also, in that exact second, the Chinese movie still playing reached its climax: the music playing during the final showdown wasn’t what you would expect from a Hollywood Blockbuster, but served as a morale booster nonetheless. Saiph gathered all the energy he could and let go a beam of white cosmic energy almost foot wide. It took more effort than he thought, but the glorious flashy impact of the energy on the mummy’s side repaid him tenfold of the effort.

    I'll Blast Hed-Ra. Since he's flat-footed thanks to Glow's Set-Up, I'll go for a Power attack +2 1d20+4 → [8,4] = (12) yes, of course I miss. It's bad taste letting a Set-Up go to waste. I'll spend an HP to re-roll that. 1d20+4 → [20,4] = (24) niiiiice. That's a critical. So TOU DC 30 (15 base + 8 blast rank + 2 power attack + 5 critical) for the poor Hed-Ra.

There’s some nice people among them, and I kind of resent the stereotype that always depicts them as creepy losers (prime example is Argus Filch from Harry Potter). Freedom City is no different: Basil Faulks, chief janitor at Claremont Academy, is described as “creepy†and “muttering to himself†(Hero High, page 110). But to be a janitor at Claremont you need chops: the alien princess’s pet laid eggs in the basement? He’s the one who has to hunt the hatchlings. Those defective nanites the kid genius dumped in the trash? They reassembled in the garbage bin, and guess who has to disable them? Not to mention that pesky poltergeist haunting the school play. So this build is my take on “what if Basil Faulks was as much of a crazy badass as the Janitor from Scrubs claims to be?†He can’t defeat the threats the students face each day, but he can damn well help. After years of moving vigilant and unnoticed in the corridors, he’s decent at sneaking up on enemies; but between Danger-sense, Blind Fight and Uncanny dodge, it takes a ninja master to sneak up on him. There’s no door that can resist him and he’s not slowed down by a basement full of knee-high water. Every week he cleans the library and sneaks out a book, building for himself a wide knowledge base. Whatever he needs, he can build in the basement! With a box of scraps! That Hoover-Hover the Janitor dreams about in the picture? Basil can have it ready in a couple of hours. 'Improvised weapons' is from Warriors and Warlocks, and gives you +1 to damage with, well, improvised weapons. Yes, he kicks your butt using a wrench or even just a broomstick. He is the only character who can say literally “I’ll mop the floor with you!â€
  11. Luke wanted to have a good time. Really. But among the downsides of getting back to school after two years in a collective body, sharing minds with your teammates around the universe, there was the issue of getting up to par with your lessons. He used to sit in the back, making jokes with his friends and talking to the cute girls: now he was forced in the front seats with the biology textbook open in his lap, trying to remember what he read about gills and lungs, cartilaginous skeletons, orders classes subspecies and whatnot. The voice of professor Hawke awakened him from his thoughts. He put back his book, buttoned his jacket and got off the bus. He looked for the few schoolmates he had already met with, but he was still preoccupied by the studies and crashed into another student he was pretty sure was named Paul. Or Parker … no! Peter. Yes, definitely Peter. “Sorry, Pete†he apologized smiling. “I’m Thomas, dude.†the guy scowled at him. Great, I’m doing just great. Luckily his eye fell on Subito and Kristin. Those two, he was sure about “Hi guys!†he grouped with them as the junior got them in line “Hey, that guy sounds familiar! Can’t mistake that Boston accent.†he commented as Morgan spoke.
  12. unless he can't because he's under stress, Arug will take 10 on both Stealth (total +21) and Notice (total +18) to carry out Weaver's orders.
  13. “I definitely think so.†Weaver shivered once more remembering the sanity-shattering sensation he was subject of in the hidden chamber of the Sphinx. “We entered a secret chamber in the Sphinx to retrieve… something... something that the professor needed for his research.†he bit his tongue just in time, realizing he was being maybe a bit too trusting. However the beggar seemed sincere, and his mind wasn’t anywhere near the healthy state necessary for the witty verbal fencing he used to tell half-truths. “So, do you think they already know about me because of my visit to this secret chamber? Do you think they are here, watching us right now?†While waiting for the answer, he reached out to Arug Stay hidden near the rooftops. Look if someone is watching me he ordered to the magical rug.
  14. Weaver is a PL 11 and small-time magic user. And would be very happy to be in your thread.
  15. Leviathan The fallen leaves crumbled beneath his feet and a couple of pigeons flew away scared as Leviathan suddenly reappeared by the northernmost corner of the house, hidden from the sun still fairly high in the October afternoon. Inside his pocket, the heroic Deep One found only a Kleenex, crumbled into a ball. He opened it and found four words on it – not written, they seemed more like impressed on the paper tissue. The message said only “WHEN WE ARE ALONEâ€. Nothing else. Later, when he rejoined the group, Ewoma tried to meet his eyes hoping to exchange a look of complicity – a tacit confirm that he understood her reasons.

    Presentation! [IC]

“Well now…†said Weaver as he glided off the wall and onto his flying carpet “that certainly made a mess.†He watched the zoo, a mess of howls and shrieks, with directionless spotlights still pointing here and there and 80es music playing loud on loop. He looked up at Asad “Adventures with you tend to be always very chaotic, Mr. Al-Misri.†He then looked at Catalyst “So, what do you suggest now? Should we return that thing immediately?†he pointed up at the flying Asad “or is any of you up for pursuit?†said indicating the fleeing man-ape, a few vines away. “Maybe we can stop him without breaking another sweat.†He took control of the “vines†hanging from the crane. They were just climbing ropes painted brown. He tried to envelop the bizarre hybrid, but he was quick enough to dodge the ropes. “It appears it isn't so. Maybe you can be more effective?†asked to the paintball marksman besdie him.

    Presentation! [IC]

GM Madame Marvelous had not an ounce of energy left in her tanned and bizarrely dressed body. She raised her reddened eyes at the sky, watching powerless as Asad flew up with the gadget she was wearing just a second before. The two bears fell on their rears, growling quietly, exhausted by the stress they had been subjected to. “Amir…†she wasn’t screaming anymore “come back... don't take that too, after my heart...†she was shaking her head, almost delirious, mad with pain from the pepperspray shot and who knows what else. Seeing his mistress defeated, and no longer influenced by the technological marvel, the man-ape looked as puzzled and tired as the bears. He stood on the wall, on four legs. He sniffed the air, cried at the night and jumped away, using the vines pending from the cranes, as swinglines to get away very fast from the battle.
  18. ok, Madame is bound, helpless, stunned and without her Device, pretty much out of the battle. The bears are exhausted. The Man-Ape is ok with just two bruises, but fleeing. Weaver attack roll to Snare him 1d20+10 → [2,10] = (12) yeah, no, that won't work... From now on, we can close things as a social thread, without rolls, or try to pursuit (or snatch from distance) the man-beast.
  19. I was waiting for possible reactions, alternatives and/or last posts from the other 2 players; once we get their ok, yes, we move there. Also, nice title-dropping. ;)
  20. It took the combined strength of Revenant and Iobatus to lift Brutus and lock him in the cellar, tossing in then his equally cuffed guards. The Ambassador wrote a quick note for the UNISON team explaining what they would find, then pinned it to the frame of the front door, next to her engraved brass tag saying “Michelle Roche, UN ambassadorâ€. Michelle watched with some apprehension her damaged house “Well, at least this is a crime-free neighbor†commented at the sight of her front door, now reduced to a bunch of splinters and wooden panels laying broken on the floor or hanging loosely by the frame. “So now what, Lord Steam? We all hop in our cars and follow you to your lab, to unravel the mistery?â€
  21. I don't think Ahmed is lying, but here's a Sense Motive just to be sure he's being genuine: 1d20+8 → [8,8] = (16) meh. Probably won't tell me much.
  22. Saeid stood in silence for a few seconds after the beggar’s tirade. He was having problems processing information – his head wasn’t responding as usual: he kept dozing off, lost in the sensation of infinite he had experienced. When he finally realized what the man was saying, he was astonished. “I… I thank you for your advice, Ahmed. I am very sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I think I am going to need to know more.†He paused for a second. Am I supposed to offer him money? This seems genuine, not just a way of getting a few coins, but… He shook his head “This… “weaver tribe†you speak of, they might know something very important to me. I get that they can be dangerous, yes, but so can I.†he felt his determination growing by the second. Even among the threads and strands extending in front of his eyes, stood a central, fixed point: his wife and their baby. “So yes, I have weaver magic. If you help me… if you can tell me more about this tribe, and how is it related to what you smelled about me – I may be able to offer you some justice. What do you say?â€
  23. Luke hadn’t planned for his debut as a superhero in Freedom City to be so splashy: the again, keeping a secret identity wasn’t a big concern for him: in his head, Claremont was just a temporary situation. He had his jeans ripped in correspondence of the Saiph mark on his thigh – what seemed like a questionable fashion choice, was really just to easily access the source of his powers. As his fingers touched the mark, the cosmic energy filled him and he felt the alien fabric of the costume condensing over his skin. “Ok now. Let’s see if I still remember how it’s done.†he whispered to himself before taking off. He flew up above Heraldo, trying to be as flashy as possible “Hey! Hey! Yeah I’m talking to you, you old rotten – hey, that’s accurate – carcass!†his hands started sparkling with light as he dispersed the energy in it, to cause a big flash without damage. “Look over here! You interrupted what probably was the only decent movie of the night. That’s unforgivable!†his hands brightened up to impossible levels as he directed the blinding starlight to the undead’s spectral eyes, before flying up to the ceiling.
