1. “Well, I don’t know about joining†replied Luke to Serge’s idea “I know my way around a computer and I know a bit about space, but those guys… they’re bona fide geniuses. I just want to meet them and see it.†he openly smiled at Kristin’s information “Hey, thanks! I’ll have to ask the headmaster if I can apply for that experiment! I was taking as many science classes as possible, but you might just have saved me a lot of time… oh COME ON!†he pointed at the screen with an exasperated smile “are those supposed to be the beast’s little chicks? They're smaller than his eye! You can find more realistically-looking rubber chickens in a toy store!†the entire room momentarily filled up with laughter at the very ridiculous sight of the little rubber monsters. When the loudness diminished, he answered to Chloe “You know… ok maybe you don’t know – anyway, a big part of the known Universe is under the Lor Republic –those guys always fighting the Grue. They’re usually very cool people, trying to protect the planets from world-devourers and such… ok basically back in Boston, I tapped in one of their artifacts and now I can survive in space and do crazy stuff with energy. I know it sounds a bit like Derrick Dash vs the horrors from Alpha Centauri†the flier he had in hand put this masterpiece almost at the end of the marathon “but really, that’s what happenedâ€. Or at least, that’s as much as I’m going to tell you he thought.
2. As the girl moved to grab the knife, the extra-dimensional detective sprung forward and grabbed her arm. Ewoma immediately jerked her arm away in a very skilled maneuver, leveraging on Steam’s thumb. She seemed ready to react, but immediately calmed down “I’m… I’m sorry. Of course that’s evidence, it was… stupid of me to risk contaminating it.†she retracted on her chair, apparently mortified. Steam, though, had a something else to put his mind on: as he touched her arm to stop her, what he felt under his fingertips was a strong and muscular arm, in sharp contrast with the thin and almost delicate frame of the ambassador’s aide. Also, he noticed that her skin was very cold. A bit too cold, even considering the shattered window on an October afternoon. As he was distracted by this revelation, Ewoma finally managed to dial the Unison Emergency Line. “Hello! Yes, this is Ewoma Russels – of ambassador’s Roche team. I need to speak with Mikos West as soon as possible.â€
3. As the minutes passed, all of the red-and-black velvet seats in the built-in theatre of the Golden Calf got occupied. Synth could see some people of the age she chose to assume, but mostly the audience was composed by middle-and-older age couples and families. Lewis accompanied her to two fairly central seats: he was still trying to start an ongoing joke, sprinkling the conversation with veiled compliments, but was getting frustrated with the unfazable and unreadable response that Synth provided. On the other hand, Glowstar and Wisp were given front row seats and got offered drinks: evidently the casino patron thought that if you were of age to fight crime, you could handle a bit of alcohol. The show was well-constructed, mixing high-end illusions with hypnosis tricks and prophecies born of cold readings. All in all, the show was less boring than one could expect: the one downside was Patricia, the red-headed assistant in the 50’s pin-up costume, who was clumsy and lacked any chemistry with the showman. At the half-hour point, William the Wonder took up a microphone and got close to the first row “I sense… I sense…†he repeated his routine for introducing one of his “propheciesâ€, and got close to Glowstar “We have a birthday coming up… isn’t that right, young man! Yes, our fine hero, and a fine Aquarius too: a free spirit, and a futurist with a rational mind, I bet. So young, and yet already a hero! Is it a family business, I bet?†he gazed into Glowstar’s alien-looking eyes, trying to read his reaction to guide his guesses.
4. William is trying to hot read Glowstar: since his identity is public, he'll use the information gathered from his team fed to him by earpiece to help him make guesses about Glowstar's past.(since his identity is public, the infromation is free, but not many people actually know it, I'm guessing; please correct me if I'm wrong). He will take 10 (for a total of 15) on Sense Motive. Bluff DC 15 for Glowstar to stay unreadable and avoid the showman revealing bits of his past to the crowd, for mere shock value. - If you succeed, his read fails and the show goes on. - If you fail, William reveals to the crowd in a dramatic fashion that you have a villain as a member of your family. You get an HP, but also have to make a Will save DC 15 or you are shaken
5. Luke’s gaze wandered off, beyond the screen where the giant bird was mangling a very, very immobile mannequin dressed up like one of the co-protagonists. “My old school was… so long ago.†he was starting to realize that “It was in Boston, the “Larry Kavanagh Highâ€. It was huge, we had more than a thousand students – with a lot of foreign exchange programs. It was great, and to be honest, I kind of miss it. But here in Claremont is a good place to do what I have to with… you know†he stretched his hands open in front of him, mimicking the gesture he did when projecting energy. “Also, what other school lets you visit and apply for internship at The Lab?†he picked up a chocolate, the darkest of the box. I will find you guys, I promise he thought to himself.
6. I'll take 10 (total 23) on Bluff to cause a distraction, and use said distraction to hide using Stealth (also taking 10 for a total of 23). I don't think this a stressful situation, but if I need to roll let me know. Assuming that whole maneuver worked, I'll stay hidden observing the reaction of the beggar, if he looks for me, if he approaches the professor, if he meets with somebody else... If he approaches the professor, anyway, I Ready an action: Selective Obscure on the beggar (descriptor: a scarf or shawl flies off a tourist's neck and casually lands on his face, as if carried by wind).
7. “Just one moment, if you please, professor†Saeid put his hand on the professor’s forearm to block him. “I’d rather check on something. One of these mendicants seems very curious about us, and as we are no stranger sight, nor display significantly more wealth than the average tourists, I would very much like to know the reason of this interest.†he pointed, as discretely as possible, to the beggar in question. “Don’t worry, it’s probably nothing, just wander around here for a few seconds; I just don't want to take an unnecessary chance.†After explaining so, he got closer to a large group of people following an English-speaking tour guide “Hey! Is that Daniel Daedalus flying near the nose?†he exclaimed. Several dozens of tourists turned started moving and yelling while trying to get a better view. Saeid used the confusion to get lost in the crowd, without losing sight of the beggar and the professor. Now he stood casually in a large group of tourists listening to an Egyptian guide, staying semi-hidden behind a large fat man, keeping an eye on the professor and one on the beggar, ready to observe what the latter would do.
8. Doktor'd 2/3/2012 Ok, Weaver got bumped! he had 3 free device points in his costume * +1 protection * +1 shield * remove the "Flaw: gliding" from his Flight he also has 4 free points. let's spend 3 of them * +1 to Sidekick, for a total of 15 - which leads to a slight rebuilt of Arug; he is now PL 7 defensively, PL 5 offensively (albeit a great grappler), and has limited immunity to bashing damage as you'd expect from a carpet. * 2 pp spent on transforming Dodge focus 2 into base defense 2 Player Name: Airon Character Name: Weaver Power Level: 11 (161/162PP) Trade-Offs: +1 Toughness, -1 Defense Unspent Power Points: 1 Progress To Bronze Status: 12/30 In Brief: master carpet-weaver with relatively new-found control over fabric and cloth, family man and protector of the neighborhood. Bare-chested, he shows long and thin muscles that wouldn’t be out of place in a middle-distance runner. His hair is black and curly, and he keeps it fairly short to hide the already receding hairline; he also sports a full and well-trimmed beard and moustache. In his civilian persona, he wears standard casual suits, favoring grey and earth-tones, usually with band-collar shirts. He fakes a thick Persian accent, mimicking the way his father talks, though English is his native language. As a professional art retailer he knows very well how to read his interlocutor expression and how to pitch a product; he’s a pretty smooth talker, especially when selling his works. His super-hero costume is composed of several layers of loose, vaguely oriental-looking clothes, with a large cape and several scarves floating around his neck and arms. He wears a cowl, and a scarf covers his mouth and nose. The costume is mostly dark blue, with burgundy and golden inserts. He speaks a perfect, inflection-free English. Arug (pronounced AH-RUG) is a very fancy and thick Persian carpet, with geometric decorations and the same color pattern of his master, about 8’ x 6’. He shouldn't be holding a whip but a scarf... but somehow Herofactory doesn't think a scarf is a plausible hero weapon  Another, more detailed drawing with HeroMachine 3

Power Descriptions: Saeid has total control over fabric and cloth of any kind: he can move them around, imbue a semblance of magic life in clothes and carpets. His hands glow faintly in the color of the object he is controlling in said moment. History: Saeid is a second-generation immigrant from Urmia, western Iran. His parents were one of the few families of Sunni Muslims in a prevalent Shi'ite community, and they moved to Freedom City in 1977. They settled in a very low-rent apartment between Greenbank and the West End. The Ashoubi had a proud tradition as weavers of fine traditional Persian carpets, and it took them little time to find their niche in the growing art and interior design scene of a metropolis like Freedom. They weren’t rich, but managed to give their two children a nice enough childhood and a decent education, and to keep them safe from the criminals of the Greenbank as well as the many crisis that Freedom seems to attract, like the Terminus invasion. The Ashoubis always had a way with looms and fabric, very nimble fingers and a special eye for patterns, but it wasn’t until young Saeid entered the family business, once he completed high-school, that the gift really manifested itself. Where his father could move the threads as he liked with just the tip of his fingers, Saeid could literally make the threads dance just with a gaze. His powers grew with the years, the more he spent weaving, the more his control over fabric and cloth became strong and precise. Any plan he had of joining the many crimefighters of Freedom were put on hold when he fell in love (and after a few years married) Jamina, a smart Egyptian girl who was majoring in Business management with his sister at Freedom College. Saeid had always been involved with the community, helping to resolve disputes between the several minorities of the West End, but it took two very distinct events, between few days of distance, to make a real super-hero out of him. The first was his sister’s wedding to the Irish Jonah Kavanagh. After years spent discussing with her parents to let them accept a marriage outside the Islamic community, a lot of public relations between the two communities, Masoumeh finally got the ceremony she wanted… when the two families started a riot, accusing each other of corrupting their culture. The riot lasted what seemed like hours, and ended only when Siren and Daedalus overcome the Purger aka Will Montgomery, an ignorant and racist man who, in order to impress his idol White Flame, got mind-controlling and hate-spreading powers from Mr. Infamy. By the time Montgomery was sent to Blackgate and the two heroes explained to the families what happened, the ceremony was ruined, three people were dead and Jonah had sustained an injury so dire that he was forced on a wheelchair. Saeid had worked so hard to give her sister a nice life, mediating between the two families, and now everything was ruined because of some idiot with powers. The second event was the “birth†of Arug. When practicing his powers, one night Saeid managed to imbue true life into a wonderful carpet he weaved a few days before. It wasn’t simply animated: it moved and communicated just like a pet. Intentioned to understand his powers and make good use of them, Saeid approached Sallah at the local mosque. The aide of Adrian Eldritch agreed to help him and booked him an appointment with the Master Mage. Under the tutelage Sallah and with occasional help form Eldritch, Saeid learned how to properly use his powers. For a couple of years now he patrolled the neighborhood, but maybe he’s ready to step up and join the major crime-fighters of Freedom… Personality & Motivations: A rational and pacific man at heart, Saeid has the characteristics of a good mediator. He enjoys a good reputation as a successful businessman and artist, and as a man involved with the social issues of his city. A lifetime of selling his products gave him a good understanding of people, and if it wasn’t for the family, the business (and that darn the hero thing) taking up so much time, he could probably become a half-decent political or social figure. He learned in the worst possible way that he must use ALL his gifts to help the community, not only those who he understands and is comfortable with. After two years, he is pretty confident with his magic, though he hasn’t tried to bring true life into another inanimate object. His first priority is to defend his family and neighbors but after every lesson with Sallah and Eldritch he understands his powers a little better and is ready to confront something stronger. Powers & Tactics: So far Saeid has mostly operated keeping his neighborhood safe form criminals, more than fighting super-villains. His modus operandi involves sneaking on his adversaries using Subtle flight and his stealth skill, then flapping scarves around their eyes (Obscure) while he or his magic carpet rescue the victim of the ill-intentioned. If forced into a fight, he takes control of the enemy’s clothes, tightening them around the limbs (Snare) or, if he’s really pissed, around the throat (Suffocating Damage). If the adversaries aren’t wearing suitable clothes (as in: naked or wearing battle-armor or such), Weaver’s costume provides enough scarves and capes to throw at them. He is also well-versed in confounding enemies by moving pieces of his costume where he isn’t (feinting, distract, redirect). He sewed little weights and blades of various metals (silver for demonic creatures, cold iron for faes, etc...) into his costume, and he can hit with them as if using a whip or a flail. Arug's primary role is transportation, with its massive strength it can carry a lot of weight. In combat, Weaver instructs it to take bystanders to safety first, then to tackle minions, by sneaking up on them and starting a grapple. If it has to fight face to face, it usually swooshes close to the ground (Prone Fighting) to enhance his defense. It communicates with Saeid by simple few-words empathic sentences, as in “danger left!†or “all safe, go!â€.

Complications: Secret Identity: Six persons know about Saeid powers and second life: his parents, his sister, his wife, Adrian Eldritch and Sallah. He’s trying really hard not to make this number grow. Family man: both his wife and his parents still work at the carpet store with him, the father helping with the weaving and the women overlooking the economic side; with a baby on the way, a family business relying mostly on him and his efforts in the community, sometimes the super-hero life stretches him too thin. Prejudice: even in the modern and open-minded Freedom, muslims and middle-eastern people find ignorant persecutors… and that’s without counting maniacs like White Knight. How did I do that?: his powers are relatively new. He knows next to nothing about magic, even if Sallah and Eldritch are teaching him. Never in the Big Leagues: Saeid mostly fought common criminals and low-level super-villains. He still has to face one of the terrible menaces that pop up so commonly in Freedom. 9. In a moment Luke went from being alone with a stranger to be surrounded by strangers, however these were smiling and warm strangers. He replied to the greetings in a polite manner, then sat down in the five seat row they had for themselves, choosing rather cockily the middle seat. At least I’ll be forced to talk with someone. "So you guys been going to the Academy for long?†he tried to start a casual conversation, maybe lacking in originality but making up in effort and will to be as social as possible. “Just one question†he asked in a half-whispered voice, so that only the five of them could hear “what is the policy about… you know… talking about powers and stuff?â€
10. to stop Ewoma before she can touch the knife, it is an Initiative Check DC 15. He who gets the highest score in this check should also throw in a Notice check (well, everybody make a Notice check, just to be sure). Also, as an ambassador himself, Steam knows that Mikos West is the number 2 of UNISON, the UN special forces.
11. Ewoma bit her lip at Steam's inquiry "No, I mean... just us, Michelle, Iobatus and me… there was no one else." She abruptly pointed at the knife that Brutus had thrown on the ground and, in the heat of battle, had been half-kicked under the couch. “Is that the King’s present?†Ewoma moved to grab the knife “This… did he used this against you?†she gasped “That’s it. I’m calling Mikos West right now. Brutus should be locked up.†Ewoma started dialing her phone. “Oh, right†Michelle looked at the weapon “he seems to think I brought it with me and used it to kill Diocles. That’s absurd, I thought it was still in its case, downstairs… I didn’t even went downstairs. Iobee… you were in the living room for a while, you didn’t see that it was gone?†“I… I just thought you moved it somewhere else… didn’t seem like the kind of thing to bring up...†Iobatus shrugged as if it was nonimportant.
12. Supercape, no Sense Motive check required, just know that while getting the drinks, the guy will start hitting on Synth, not too blatantly, just flirting a bit. I don't know how much she can understand of that, play it as you wish.
13. Wisp & Glowstar “Am I okay? I’m fantastic, in no small part thanks to you and your stunning companion, young man!†William’s smile, if possible, grew even wider as he grabbed Glowstar and pulled him closer; putting each arm around the shoulder of a hero, he stood winking in the middle, the cameras and recording smartphone going crazy. “So, what do you say? Freedom’s finest deserve the finest show their city can offer and that, all modesty aside, is about to begin, with yours truly! And all these people you saved†he waved in front of himself “will be so excited to share this magical evening with their heroes! Come on, you can’t say no to such an offer!†the crowd cheered loudly at this little speech; William waved some more at them, then turned to the entrance of the casino, gently pushing the heroes with himself, stopping every three steps to smile at a camera or sign an autograph. Synth “Just one name, eh? Like Prince, or Cher… I like it!†the shapeshifting hero and her chaperone got closer to the crowd and caught several glimpses of William a tall man finely dressed with a smile too large to be true. He and two costumed heroes were drowning in camera flashes as the crowd slowly got into the casino. “It’s going to be a while until the shows really starts, he has to get ready and that incident with the superheroes will probably slow down stuff.†he pointed at the bar “What do you say if I buy you a drink in the meantime?â€
14. Weaver Strand of Fate (13) Hot & Cold (2) Presentation! (1 IC post - also GMing) + News (1) total=17 Saiph Bound in Dust (10) Shark Week: flying sharks? (2) total=12 GM The Stars Say That... (5) Presentation! (1 GM post - also playing as Weaver) Something Fishy - part 2 (10) total=16 So, 16 GM posts = 8 PC posts, just enough to bump Weaver to 25. EDIT: so if I understood correctly and 16 GM posts translate into 16 IC posts, I can bump both Weaver to 25 and Saiph to 15.
15. Luke wandered towards the theater a bit nervous, his hands tucked in the pockets of his black jacket: it was his first attempt to bond with other Claremontians outside the campus, and he was very much “the awkward new guyâ€. However some of the cheesiest movie posters exposed above the entrance managed to make him smile a bit, and his mood got better as he entered the large building. The place was swarmed with teens and college students, most of them wearing T-shirts depicting the most improbable monsters. As he inched his way through the seats row, in the shifting light of the pre-movie commercials, he saw the first familiar face of the evening: he had seen her in a couple of classes and noticed her perfectly composed, almost unnatural posture. “Hey.†he gave her a nod, trying to be as casual as possible. “You’re from Claremont, right? We have Chemistry on Tuesdays and Fridays. I’m Luke, I just moved to Freedom City a couple of weeks ago.â€
16. there you go. Notice 1d20+13 → [15,13] = (28) Unfortunately I'm still unable to log in IC - I tried creating a different account with different e-mail, nothing. Bah. Also, I'd rather have Arug - he shares an empathic link with Weaver, so if the teleport is imagination-based, it could work... right now he can be either rolled into a large bag, or following from a distance - taking 10 on Stealth (for a total of 21) to avoid people noticing a flying carpet over the rooftops!
17. I am assuming Arug traveled with us?
18. When Saeid opened his eyes, he turned around his head and squeezed his eyes “Well… I’ve been teleported a few times now, but you never get used to it, do you, professor?†He looked down the street, looking for cars and analyzing the clothing “Your old house… you don’t mean we went back to one or two dozens years ago, do you, right?†he grinned: it was joke, but you could never know with powerful spells – time travel was something to leave for a more experienced hero. “It should be around what, 6 PM?" he asked then looking for a clock "I have to say, this is a lovely place, professor†rather rudely, Saeid started perusing around immersing himself in the old-fashioned surroundings, looking closely to the artifacts on display, though he didn’t dare touch anything. Then his gaze fell upon a drawing of a child on an old manuscript, and it brought back the weight of the situation, cancelling the hype of the magical travel. He rubbed his temples. “So, our mission. What clues did you and Dr. Eldritch have put together to guide our investigation?â€
19. Synth “I’m Lewis. Lewis Beck.†he held out his hand, but before Synth could shake it he realized it was covered in blood and dirt from the street “Sorry.†he cleaned it on a handkerchief. “So, you’ve never even heard of the man? His face is on every poster around here! Oh, he’s great! I swear I’ve seen him do and know things I never believed possible. And 100% human, you know? No crazy mutant-precog genes, he’s like us!†they walked out of the alley and back in the massively neon-lit Boardwalk. “The Calf is just two blocks away. Yeah, you can already see the crowd… I bet William just arrived!†he smiled a crooked smile, meant to be cool but coming off just as trying too hard. “So, I told you mine… what do you call yourself?†Wisp (& Glowstar, if he's listening) A thunderous sound of applause and whistles greeted Wisp’s stunt as the two letters crashed safely far away from the crowd. Superheroing might be mundane in Freedom City, but people were still amazed in front of the most spectacular actions. From the crowd emerged a tall man, in a tailor-made white suit and a burgundy scarf fashionably draped on his shoulders. “Amazing, absolutely amazing.†He had a large smile and kept clapping as he closed the distance between himself and Wisp “We truly are blessed with the most amazing heroes in this city.†As he got close to the heroine, the camera flashes and red dots of recording cameras multiplied “The fine people of Freedom went to see my show, but you surely gave them a tasty appetizer, didn’t you?†He positioned himself so that both him and the heroine were facing the largest amount of cameras possible. He put forward his hand trying to grab Wisp’s in a politician handshake. “I am William. Yes, that William†he pointed at a large billboard publicizing the WILLIAM THE WONDER WIZARDRY SHOW! Illusions, hypnosis and incredible predictions for all the family! with his ten-feet face smiling on the golden background. “I would love to have you and your costumed partner as honor guests tonight! I won’t take no for an answer, you saved my life with your powers, it is only fair that I entertain you with mine!â€
20. “I am afraid I’m going to have to ask you to wait for a few moments, professor.†He stood up from the couch “I’ll go tell Jamila about this predicament, and it might take a while. Please†he pointed to the tray on the table “feel free to serve yourself. There are some delicious spiced pastries in the round tin box.†He left the living room, entered the bedroom and closed the door behind himself. “Hey, honey?†he whispered while caressing her wife shoulder. “Mmmyeah, ‘m awake.†replied her. She lifted herself on an elbow and took a sip from the orange juice on the nightstand “the baby’s been kicking like crazy.†Saeid smiled at her, his heart full with pain and worry. “Listen honey, something came up. Something of the “Eldritch think it’s important and we’re personally involved†variety.†“That is never good, right? Why is it always evil undead sorcerers, and never the king of leprechauns who wants to give us a pot of gold?†“It’s a bit more complicated than that…†*** About twenty minutes later Saeid came back to the living room, accompanied by his wife “Professor Al-Hakim?†asked her “my name is Jamila Ashoubi. Nice to meet you.†she shook his hand “My husband explained the situation to me. Please find out what this is, I don’t want my child to be born during another Terminus Invasion or similar Apocalypse.†She kissed Saeid goodbye, then went back to the bedroom. Saeid adjusted his shirt, a bit stretched over the costume it was covering. Arug, laid down, raised a corner and inched close to his master “Well then, professor. I think I’m ready. I hope we have an urn full of hot dog ashes, essence of capitalism and dirt from the Grand Canyon for the trip back…â€
21. “The notion of Dr. Eldritch being perplexed is almost as troubling as you recognizing my unborn child in those ancient scrolls, professor.†Weaver put up an uncertain smile, trying to hide his preoccupation. “I’ll be glad to help you. I’ll do whatever I can so that you can make sense of this prophecy issue.†He caressed his beard, as he always did when he was thinking “I certainly am motivated, after what you told me, though I don’t think I am the most qualified person to do it – Dr. Eldritch would be more suited, but I’m fairly sure that him being distracted by this matter would lead to Ancient Horrors taking over the planet.†Another worry-covering joke. He hoped his grin wouldn’t get too hysterical and fake. “So, I’ll need to know a little bit more, at least to understand if telling my wife about it – which I plan to do – will put her in real danger.†He glanced at the closed door behind which slept Jamila. “So, what can I do to help?â€
22. At least ten full seconds passed before Saeid was able to talk. In the last days most of his attention had been concentrated on his future child and hearing such a shocking revelation left him stunned. He put the teacup on the table with a slightly trembling hand, then looked back at the professor. “My child. A prophecy. The destiny-the destiny of the world.†He picked up again the teacup, his hand slipped, he dropped most of the tea on the table, and brought to his lips the almost empty cup trying to drink what wasn’t there. “I’m sorry, this must be a misunderstanding of some sort." said then after somehow regaining control "You say Dr. Eldritch is your mystical consultant – what does he have to say about that?†he slapped in the back corner of his mind the mystical message he received from his teacher, hoping the professor hade made a mistake.
