  1. Victory 2007, Edwards Air Force Base "Congratulations again, Lieutenant" "Thank you very much, Commandant Luallen." The massive young man, clad from head to toe in the dress uniform of the United States Air Force, tenses his shoulders back, head snapping straight. Cut off by a pat on the shoulder, the Colonel beside him smiles. "At ease, at ease. You worked hard for today, Lance. You can take a breath." A breath like the release of a pressure valve escapes the young Lieutenant's body, relaxing his tall frame. His mouth has a smile plastered on it, even as his eyes look almost tired. "I know, sir. But I just can't believe I'm here already. It feels like just yesterday when I got the acceptance letter." Behind them, the sounds of men and their families congratulating one another make the two raise their voice a bit more, even as they begin to walk to a quieter corner of the hall. "To be honest, sir, I'm still shocked I even got accepted. I've heard of people spending years on the waiting list in order to get into Test Pilot Academy, if ever. I hadn't even been out of the Academy for very long before getting called up. I was reeling wh-" With a firm pat on the shoulder, the young pilot gets cut off. "Now, now, just take a breath." Slowly, bit by bit, the Commandant begins to inhale through his nose, straightening himself up. Following his lead, the Lieutenant does the same, filling his lungs up. In turn, they both exhale, before speaking once again. "There you go. Much better, right?" The graduate finishes the last bit of air, a smile properly on his face. "Yes, sir. I guess I just had a bout of shock about the whole situation." "Your humility is appreciated, Lieutenant. You wouldn't be here if you didn't have the ability. Just because you're young, doesn't mean you don't have it in you. Now, then..." Cut off by the group back in the room calling over, Commandant Luallen gives the newly-graduated test pilot an encouraging slap on the back, pointing him back towards the other graduates. "Go on. And get a glass of champagne. You told me earlier you haven't even had a drop to drink this whole year. You earned it." Saluting in thanks, Lieutenant Factor goes off to join his fellows, each and every one of them looking forward to a career of pushing the newest technology to their limits. November 2017, Skies Above Freedom City "Dammit!" A streak of silver flies across the hangar bay, before crashing into the far wall. A huge divot embeds itself right where the object aims. A couple mechanics, having taken a duck and cover nearby, carefully approach the embedded object and begin to pry it out. The hangar door howls with the wind from outside, as the winged figure walks in. His left hand tugs momentarily at his matted hair, a grimace of frustration on his face. The sealing door cuts off the rushing air, leaving only the sounds of heavy metal footsteps clanging upon the floor of the bay. Hitting the middle of the room, Victory stops, shutting his eyes and taking deep breath after breath, trying to calm himself. Along his body, a myriad of vents open all at once, exhaling clouds of steam as the staff wait along the edges of the room. When it clears out, the mechanics rush in, attending to their duties. While the workers around Victory work on dismantling piece by piece of outer armor, shuffling them off to cleaning and maintenance, leaving the inner skeleton of the cyborg supporting the remaining flesh inside, an AEGIS official approaches. "You did good out th-" "He's still out there. AGAIN, he managed to slip away." "But those people are safe. That's the most important thing. And nobody else could've gotten there in time except you." Hanging his head still, the hero finally steps out of the designated spot, having the much lighter day-to-day plating put back over the robotic skeleton, looking as close in shape to the rest of what remains of his human body as possible. "But he'll be back again. What happens if I'm busy on a rescue halfway across the world?" A smile crosses the higher official's face, as he stops their walk. Patting Victory on the shoulder, he hands over the tablet carried on his side. "Well....remember the program we had discussed?" Victory begins to read, with his eyes going wide within a few lines. "Well...I finally managed to convince higher-ups to provide funding. We'll be starting up the first round within the next year and a half. And you..." ".....Head Instructor...?" November 2027, Classified Location "...and don't forget, you're here because we know we have what it takes. You've already sacrificed more than anyone could ask. You're extremely bright, and it's clear from how you got here that you've got the guts and character to make it through this program. But..." A flesh-and-blood hand lands on a silver upper arm, belonging to a fresh-faced young soldier. The brown-haired corporal looks down at his own artificial arm, then up to the smiling face of the Colonel. The same face that had been seen all over AEGIS recruitment material for the last decade, with or without a helmet. "...if you really do want to go back to civilian life, you have my word. We'll get you back there." A warm smile, then the Colonel straightens back up. "Now, get back to the rest of the team. You've all got a new drill coming tomorrow." Trading a salute, the office door shuts, with the younger man disappearing in a flash of movement. Shutting the door once he's all alone, Colonel Factor lets out a long breath, walking back to his desk. Dressed in his daily uniform, endowed with a unique patch on the right shoulder showing a pair of metal wings, the massive man steps up to the wall behind the central desk. Nearly a dozen helmets, blue and silver all, adorn places of honor. With one exception: A black helmet, shaped similarly to the others, but with a more menacing edge to its wing-like protrusions, sits out of formation, near the corner. The now middle-aged hero puts a metal hand upon it. It moves and shifts like an arm of flesh, muscles and fibers made of a shimmering metal, one far beyond the sort that make up the walls of room he finds himself in. Removing the helmet from its mounting, Colonel Factor turns it over in his hands, a smirk on his lips as he looks at the faint orange glow that still remains swirling, trapped inside. "Who would've guessed? All it took was seeing things from a teacher's point of view. Guess you were a success after all, V1." As if to cut him off, the alarm throughout the base blares, as the PA system kicks in. "ATTENTION: DIMENSION RIFT OPENING ABOVE FREEDOM CITY. ALL AVAILABLE STEEL SQUADRON MEMBERS REPORT TO THE SITUATION ROOM AND AWAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS FROM VICTORY! REPEAT..." Placing the black helmet back in its spot, the Colonel turns back towards his door. With a loud clang, the entire room shifts. Going downward like an elevator, he stands firm in the very center. The suit covering his body goes from a deep, dark blue to a shining silver, before it seems to melt and spread all over his body. When the only thing left open is his mouth, the vet stands in a broad, winged shape. The Victory that's been patrolling the skies of not just Freedom City, but the world for nearly 2 decades. The room stops, with the door-holding wall retracting entirely. Before him are a cadre of men and women, all with various arrangements of cybernetic parts and bodies. Each of them stands at attention, and all bear the same silver-wing logo upon their shoulders. Victory steps forward, his voice booming out over the PA system within the wide hangar bay. "Alright, everyone! We've got a hole coming in. Here's our plan of approach..."
  2. Victory, being more of the modern marvels kind of fellow, as opposed to ancient magic, kept passive during the debate, but was keeping a close ear on every word. There are two many unknowns about what the object really is, so he'll need as much info as he can absorb first. With each of the mentions of various old gods and religions, a small browser window quickly appeared in his visor, where he'd take a speed-read of important known info, before replacing it with another. Frost's input got victory talking again, as international relations often do. "I'm staying around, as well. If there is an emergency back on home soil, then AEGIS has ways to find me, even out here. Right now, knowing so little about the actual goals of our thieves and what they think they can do with this....device...leaves too many potentially dangerous questions. And, as our Comrade here mentioned, this country is enough of a boiler as is. Whatever this artifact is capable of, I wouldn't be surprised if, at the very least, they may intend to cause an international incident." Victory looks over to frost with a small upturn of a grin, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Besides, think of the headline! East And West Join Together; Middle-East Thanks Both! Would've been history-making 30 years ago, eh?"
  3. What happened to the other pages of posts in the IC thread?
  4. Who have we been waiting on to go next?
  5. As they had transported the vehicle to the destination, Victory had used his scanning software to try and identify as much of the tech Zulfiqar was using as he could. Not surprisingly, at least considering where she's been known to get her tech from, most of it was completely off-the-record. And no small percentage of her gear seemed to have been changed from the last time AEGIS was able to get an updated spec. Granted, the most recent info he has is rather old. Not the easiest group to get info on, to be sure. Upon landing, Victory gave the appropriate salute as the Watchers are introduced. His automatic identification software kicks in, although without as easy a direct link to AEGIS due to the distance, it may take some time to get any info, if there's any to be had. In the meantime, he tries to do a quick assessment of his own. A soldier... a mystic of some kind... a possible bruiser...not sure what the other woman might be...But it seems like a balanced team. "Good to meet you all. I take it you all know more of our parcel than we do?" Cannonade's question gets a very slight smirk out of Victory. "Probably not something you measure in dollars and cents. That wasn't the kind of crew you send just for a highway robbery. And we're not the kind you'd bring in just to prevent it."
  6. Toughness save (1d20+13=28) Phew! Just barely.
  7. "Well, I suppose I could carry everyone, but even I can only hold so much stuff at once. There's just the issue that should anything happen to me and I drop you? Well, that could be bad." Victory sizes up the armor-clad figure, trying to see if there's any specific info he may have on her. He's not terribly familiar with supers in this part of the world, so it's only natural to have at least a little bit of caution. In the meantime, he nods at Frost's suggestion. "Good call. I don't like having magical sources in my hands any longer than I have to. You never know what's going to happen."
  8. Ah, here's a question. Would Victory have anything on this other hero who showed up? Even if it might take a while to search due to being on the other side of the world.
  9. Alright, seems like the only real thing to do is to intercept, if the way to him is through these things. Switching Array to Strike 13, Flight 3 Charge, All Out, Power Attack at the nearest one. All-Out Power Charge (1d20+11=31) Whoooo, buddy! That looks like a crit to me! I believe that should bring the Toughness DC up to 43 (+5 for PA, +5 for Crit)
  10. Oh crap! I haven't even seen this update in a while! Please tell me where I am?
  11. Now finished with his branch of the fight, Victory sees a golden opportunity. Although one of the attackers had gotten their hands on the artifact they were sent to guards, it seems she won't be going much of anywhere with it. Good. He rockets out of the building and swipes right by, grabbing the statue out of her hands before they fully freeze, as well. He gains some height to look down at the rest of the fight, and, seeing it going well, he radios out. "I have the package. You guys finish cleaning up, and we'll see if we can't throw this lot somewhere that we can contain them. We wouldn't want to let them leave without finding out who sent them."
  12. Alright then. I'll switch my array to Flight 5/Super Strength 11 and swing on by with a check 1d20+19=22 Bleh, bad roll. But hey, maybe the bonus will make up for it...?
  13. Well I'm pretty strong. Would it be possible to try and pry it out of her hands?
  14. So it sounds like the one trying to carry off the artifact can't do much with it right now, being frozen and all. Would I be able to just scoop it up and fly it out of harm's way, then?
  15. This foe had been a real pain in the neck. Not to mention he'd seriously jeopardized their entire mission due to his presence. Whatever his powers fully entailed, they had to be shut down NOW. But he's a slippery bugger, and such an enclosed space has proven to be Victory's undoing. However, even though his last few hits whiffed, his targeting computer has been keeping track of his foe's movements. On top of that, Victory, as a soldier, got a better understanding of how to approach this environment. The big swings were a foolish idea. This will require something a bit more clever.... And those last attacks happened to put him in a good position to do so. His opponent had been pushed into a corner, and Victory watched him very carefully. He started to lead in with a hit, as big as before. However, once he saw the slippery little bugger start to move, a sudden jab fromtheother hand shot out, catching his prey mid-dodge. Of course, the jab was more like a shotgun, having been accelerated instantly by the jets in his elbow. The shot was enough, as the villain passed out right on his fist. With this one down, Victory radioed the others. "I got a bogey down in here. What's the situation outside?"
  16. I'm getting real tired of this Kalaa fellow. Here goes... All-Out Power Attack (1d20+9=24) Alright, that's GOT to hit...right? DC 38 Toughness
  17. Before Victory could speak,he heard the doors seal behind him, and glanced back in a bit of irritation. However, he turned back to the robots, raising a hand up as if to say "wait!" "Hold on, we were invited here. Who is in control of your systems currently? Or are you entirely automated...?" Victory kept his hand up, trying to remain calm. "Besides, how are we supposed to go back when the room is sealed up like this?"
  18. Above the city, Victory was caught on his lunchbreak (eating a sandwich while sitting inside a cloud) by the sounds of every PA system in the city going off at once, a phenomenon that his enhanced hearing could not ignore, even from that high up. He raised his finger up to re-activate the broadcast systems in his helmet, when it turns out that home base was already doing the same, overriding the sleep mode he had put his comm system on. "Is this about that massive amount of noise I just heard from down below?" "Right on the money. Here, we'll send the recording over. Take a look." Victory watches the transmission on his helmet-mounted screen, while finishing off the last few bites of his lunch and dusting the crumbs from his hands. "Oh, it's this lug, huh? Wonder if the Grue are still salty about all those landing ships I destroyed during the invasion a while back? Well, I'm sure not Freedom League, so this sounds like an invitation to me. And the moon's not too far. I could probably get up there pretty quick." "So you got this one? We've actually already made a contact on this to get you a ride. We'll send the rendezvous co-ordinates over. Oh, and V? Make sure the people know you're on this one. A lot of people saw this, and I'm sure they'll feel a bit more confident if they see you're on it." "Roger. On my way." Victory put his body into high-speed mode, as his boosters charged up. A couple seconds to chart his trajectory, and Victory blasted....down! He flew down to the level where the people could easily see them without having their ears destroyed by the roar of his engine, streaking right down the city Center, letting the people get a nice, good look at him on his way to stop this dastardly plot! And there was much rejoicing.
