  1. Lesson number one, Trevor reminded himself as he rolled forward toward the man in the armored suit. As he rolled, midnight mist cascaded from his every pore, covering his body, then the entire battlefield, enveloping the gunrunner, his twisted pet and Lukos is pitch black, light consuming darkness. Never let them get a clean shot at you. Observing the street in red-cast clarity thanks to his mask's lenses, Midnight's voice scraped harshly in the battlesuit wearer's ears. "Can't shoot a nightmare, little man," the echoing intonations chastised him coldly.
  2. Alright, let's try this again. Midnight is going to drop his mist over the entire fight, then direct a DC 22 move action Demoralize at the Battle Suit guy.
  3. "Hey, I'm no doctor, but - " At Ace's raucous laughter, Jack of all Blades looked more closely at the still form of his hosts' fallen friend. His eyebrows shot up as he noticed the tiny, earthy tendrils. Instinctively he focused his metahuman senses, and discovered a fragrance of tulips so faint he might have been imagining it. Turning to the older heroes, he opened his mouth to ask a question, then shut it again, looking perplexed. Finally deciding that after everything that had happened that day he really didn't need to worry about sounding crazy, he cocked his head to one side and asked, "So, funny question... is and/or was she, like... a plant or something maybe?" He mimed petals over his head awkwardly "Sorta, y'know, flower... type... thing...?" It did indeed sound as ridiculous out loud as it had sounded in his head.
  4. Hey, Jack paid for that hot dog, he's going to take his time and enjoy it! He tosses out a DC 33 Feint at both Zealot and Emperor, courtesy of Skill Mastery and Fast Talk, then uses Set Up to transfer the benefits to Phalanx.
  5. Jack nimbly stepped out of the way of Zealot's attack. "Kid, chill, it's a hot dog," he told the already enraged teen wryly, calmly continuing to eat with one hand while he placed the other behind his back. "I'm pretty sure they're okay even in the Holy Texts of Cuckoo Crazy Banana Land or whatever your thing is." Still showing no signs of intending to attack, Jack flipped past the would-be witch hunter, taking a final bite of his vendor food midair and placing the now free hand behind his back to join the other. He gave Emperor a critical look. "Although here's a kid who could stand to lay off the sausages, if you know what I'm saying. It's called a morning jog, kid, look into it." Before either could respond he was moving again, bobbing and weaving about the young criminals on the street, frustrating and distracting them with his total lack of concern for them as a threat.
  6. Jack held the pose until the camera flashed. "Freakin' A," he grinned broadly once the picture was taken. Reaching into a pocket inside his greatcoat, he produced a white business card with a single embossed capital letter 'I' centered on it and presented it to Geckoman. "Here. Do me a favour and send a copy of that to the contact info on there." He seemed to pause for a oment in consideration before adding, "And if you ever get into a jam, something you can't call in the Terrific Teen Team of whatever for, give that number a call."

  8. Though he suspected the broad shouldered teen's definition of 'normal' might be skewed, it was the way Mike mentioned getting away with things that raised Trevor's interest, though naturally his expression didn't do much to show it. "So, is there a curfew, or...?" he asked nonchalantly. Is there a casual way to ask if the headmaster is cool with students dressing up in costumes at night and going out to fight dangerous criminals? he wondered ruefully. He assumed that the other students had gifts and powers of their own, but so far they hadn't made any overt demonstration of them, nor inquired as to his own skill set, and so he felt oddly compelled to dance around the topic.
  9. The radioactive blast caught Midnight full on as he dropped to the ground, but the lining in his costume allowed him to shrug it off with no ill effects. Here's to preparation, Trevor mused as he made a beeline for the downed Atomcar. He trusted Erin could keep Gamma busy, and in the meantime, he needed to get the people inside to safety. It's like a giant video game, he reminded himself, stopping Gamma's just one way to achieve the primary goal. Looking at the door to the sealed vehicle, he momentarily stymied by the apparent lack of locking mechanism. Wracking his brain, the answer came to him: a magnetic lock wouldn't be visible from the outside and might be strong enough to have kept the colossal villain out. Acting quickly, he pulled a long, flat rectangular device from one of several zippered pockets inside his jacket. He laid it along side the door where it latched on and proceeded to make whirring and humming noises as it worked to unseal the door. As it went about its business, Midnight shot a furrowed glace over to the continuing battle.
  10. Alright, Midnight ends up blowing his sole HP to figure out just how the heck the Atomcar is locked: Knowledge (technology) check reroll. (1d20.minroll(11)+5=20) Turns out it's a magnetic lock! Crazy! He uses a standard action to put his remaining 5pp of Gadgets into 15 ranks of Disable Device and Skill Mastery (Disable Device). Then as a move action... he'll use it! That's a 27 Disable Device check, with his Intelligence included.
  11. "Enough." To the remaining gunrunner's horror, a figure of blackest night melted from the the shadows, cinder red eyes burning in the darkness. With inky tendrils of smoke wafting from his sleeves and collar, dancing about to give him an inhuman silhouette, Midnight stalked forward. The mist at his feet made it seem almost as though he were floating forward, propelled by some baleful force, as he drew up within inches of the criminal's face. The glowing eye narrowed, the only feature on an unreadable face. "You will tell us everything, and you will do it now.

    IN SPAAAAACE! OOC

'Hawk gets a complication HP 'cause apparently giant, ship-mounted space cannons are just really big handguns. It's worth noting that this makes him markedly more mentally disturbed than Batman, who never had much problem with vehicle mounted missiles and lasers of all kinds. Just sayin'.
  13. The terrifying voice echoed from the mist once again. "Leave one alive," it commanded. Naturally Lukos understood that the masked man meant he wanted one conscious, presumably to interrogate. Whether the werewolf felt inclined to comply and restrain himself was another matter. While the cloud of midnight mist continued to roil menacingly in the alleyway, Trevor used it's cover to sneak away, moving silently through the shadows to stand just behind the remaining gunrunners. Being hidden somewhere in the cloud was good, being somewhere else entirely was better.
  14. Ugh, Midnight is too slow. Nuts. Alright, he's going to leave the cloud there as a big distraction, then sneak over to hide in the shadows behind the gunrunners. 'Cause why not. At least he can interrogate one of them after Lukos is finished.
  15. Myshel nodded to Arrowhawk. "Yes, that lightsign is always red. If its flashblink is syncopated, then it is time for worry," she clarified, indicating the readouts the Khalados native had pointed out. "Zakitajprince is correct, though, that is the shieldstrong monitor. Rest it trueright as well, except that this," the pilot amended gesturing first to a control station and then to a series of inert matching symbols of the panoramic screen, "is not our weaponburn, but incoming attacks. We passed the Flarerider's cannon installments on our waywalk here." Electricity arched briefly between her antennae as she turned back to the grim archer. "You are an aimshotman, yes? I can tellteach you how those work." Meanwhile, Jack of all Blades moved to take a look around the bridge, ending up next to Atlas. "I hear you, big guy. Never know which one of those keys is for releasing all the air into space or something, huh?" He gave the Russian a quizzical look. "Actually, less big than normal. Didn't know you could adjust your size like that."
  16. Trevor's right eyebrow lifted slightly as Eddie answered his question and offered advice for dealing with the headmaster. ...why would you want to call him 'Dunc'?, he wondered. Outwardly he simply inclined his head in acknowledgment. "Any other advice?" he asked the trio of students. The lanky youth still wasn't quite sure what to make of Claremont. Everything seemed normal and friendly enough, but periodically an offhand reference to the Liberty League or underground facilities would remind him that there was a lot more going on than met the eye.
  17. Toughness save vs. DC 21 (1d20+8=25) Pfft, radiation? Whatever. So, how far back did Gamma get knocked? If he's a ways off, Trevor might want to see about getting the passengers of the Atomcar to safety, rather than chasing after him.
  18. As Lukos leapt into the heart of the mobsters' position, the impenetrable cloud of midnight mist inched inexorably closer. A chilling voice rang out from within, grating with an inhuman edge, seeming to come from every part of the shrouded alley at once. It was not filled with rage, nor threat, but coldly devoid of emotion, mercy or compassion. "Midnight comes. Those who wish to live to see dawn... Drop. Your. Weapons."
  19. Midnight Intimidates the remaining mobsters, with a Skill Mastery DC 29.
  20. Initiative (1d20+3=7) Argh. Can't win.
  21. "Got it covered," intoned as Erin charged their simulated opponent. He meant it literally; his costume included a light lead, pliable lining for just such an occasion. The bad news was that Trevor wasn't sure how well it would stand up to actual combat condition, and he doubted it would completely block Gamma's power. Still, it was the edge he needed to get in close. To that end, he fired the grapple already in his hand, latching onto a nearby building and swing into the fray, thin wisps of inky mist trailing behind him. Ignoring the villain's accusations and threats he called gruffly to Erin, "Do you need to see to fight?"
  22. Uh, yeah, okay. Midnight uses 5pp of his Gadgets to come up with Immunity 10 (radiation, Flaw: half-effective) then uses his grapple to swing over to the fight.
  23. Naturally Midnight is putting up a cloud of midnight mist, and using his Stealth to avoid detection; 28 with Skill Mastery.
