  3. Player Name: Geez3r Character Name: Animal Man II Power Level: 10 - 150/153PP Trade-Offs: Variable Unspent Power Points: 3 Progress To Bronze Status: 3/30 In Brief: The next in line of a family of shapeshifters carries on the legacy to help the downtrodden. Alternate Identity: Markus Lupin Identity: Secret Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Private Detective Affiliations: Family: Animal Man I & She Wolf (parents), Emily Lupin (sister) Description: Age: 26 (June 7, 1988) Apparent Age: Same Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 6'2â" Weight: 180 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Light Brown The first word most people use to describe Markus would be burly. He is in tremendous physical health, and looks it, having a defined layer of muscle covering his whole frame. He looks like the type of person you could totally see moving out to the middle of nowhere in Alaska to live off the land, and only wander into town once every couple of months for supplies. He generally sports a full beard that he grooms just enough to not be scruffy. He doesn't really style the hair on top of his head, just keeps it relatively short and lets it fall where it may. This rest of his frame is similarly manicured, that is to say not at all, making him to be a pretty hairy guy. While on patrol, Animal Man is most commonly in the form of an animal, but he does have a costume that he dons all the same. It is in fact the same costume his father wore all those years ago, though tailored a bit to fit Marcus's frame. He wears the split head and pelt of a lion over his bear chest, it's mane forming a collar over his neck and shoulders. He wears a tribal necklace of teeth across his neck, with a family crest at the center, which appears similar in appearance to a small animal skull. He wears a set of brown trousers made out of a sturdy canvas material, held up by a rather thick belt. He completes the ensemble with a pair of heavy leather boots and leather bracelets at the end of each wrist. Markus has had to add a domino mask to the classic costume, as his father had more control of manipulating his physical features than Markus does. Power Descriptions: Animal Man is a shapeshifter. He can transform into any animal that has ever lived on planet earth. This also include extinct animals, like the ones that went extinct over 65 million years ago. Unlike many other shifters, there isn't a drawback or limitation on the colors of the shapes he changes into. However, when he changes form into another species, that is the only form of that species he has. When he transforms himself into a lion, it is always that specific lion. This is why he can technically transform into a human as well, but it won't make much difference as he always transforms into himself as he was born human, which is therefore the only human form he has. Animal Man's powers are magical in nature and can be detected as such when he's in an animal form. He's not detectable as magic in his base human form. Due to the magical nature of his powers, the forms he takes can sometimes exceed the base capabilities of the animals themselves, but they are still grounded by the capabilities of the animal in question. He can't give a bear a poisonous bite, but the bear's claws might be sharp enough to cut through steel, might being the operative word. History: Markus was destined to have an interesting life before he even took his first breath. Markus Lupin actually comes from a long line of sorcerers. Their magical talent is innate, and through study and practice, members of his family can refine their skills. The Lupin family has most commonly expressed these gifts through shapeshifting, though a few members of the family have had a different skill set, and varying degrees of power, as magic can be quite fickle. Markus' father, John Lupin and the first superhero to have the moniker Animal Man, is the source of the majority of the power that Markus has inherited, as John inherited the family's gifts as well. That being said, Markus's mother's bloodline had its own contribution. Markus's mother, Maria Natcheer is a full blooded lycanthrope, and was formerly the villainess She-Wolf. Markus's parents were enemies back in the early 80's, fighting brutal battles at every full moon. At the time, Maria could not control her transformations, and would go on a rampage, being contained only by John's heroic efforts. That was until John finally tracked down who Maria was during the day. He had devised a spell that would rid Maria of her curse, an act that would kindle a relationship between the two, eventually leading to their marriage some years later. It is due to his mother's blood in his veins that Markus is naturally so fit, and also why silvered weapons leave the mark as they do. The two would retire from the super-identities when they were married, which was shortly after the Moore laws were passed. The early years of his life, Markus led a pretty normal life, his parents keeping most of their history secret from him and his younger sister Emily. But when they reached their teenage years, Markus' parents told them the whole truth about who and what they were, and what that would mean for Markus and Emily. Soon after that Markus' magical talent revealed itself, and his father began instructing him in its use, as Markus expressed the desire to take up his father's mantle as the next Animal Man from an early age. In school, Markus also started down the path to being a hero, enrolling in criminal justice classes, and more than a few legal classes as well. After graduating from college, Markus has opened up his own private detective business. He knew of no better way to help people, and also to retain his autonomy on his day to day life. His sister, Emily is still in college, and has exhibited some of the family's natural talent, but has yet to refine it, instead focusing on her schooling. Personality & Motivation: Markus is at his core, a stubborn man who is just trying to do good, but may be just a bit to hot headed for his own good. He can never turn his back on people who need his help. He may certainly grumble about a particularly demanding case, but he'll do it all over again the next time he hears another sob story. He would be a much better detective if he had the patience for the skill, but he usually just gets enough information to find out which door he should be kicking down. His parents have instilled in him a sturdy set of morals, so he never goes off the deep end, even though he might really like thinking about it. The quickest way to set him off is to threaten his sister or parents, whom Markus is extremely protective of. Powers & Tactics: Animal Man's tactics are pretty straight forward at this point, he just transforms into an animal and wades in with claws, teeth and horns. He tends to favor larger animals over smaller ones at this point, his most common forms being that of a bear or a lion. When he does go into smaller forms, it's usually to get into or out of some place, or if it's a bird he's transforming into, it's basically just to get to point A to point B. He has also been known to take on the forms of smaller animals like cats and mice when stealth is important, often times used for trailing a person of interest. Complications: The beast within – Animal Man counts as human, any animal and a lycanthrope regardless of the form he's currently in for the purposes of determining what effects work on him. All those familiar faces: Animal Man can assume 1 and only 1 form per species, people may recognize him if they see him in the same form more than once. Alligators in the sewers: People generally react poorly when they see a wild animal running loose in the streets, and Animal Man can't really explain things in animal form, even less so if animal control shoots him with a tranquilizer in the mean time. Temper: Once he gets riled up, Markus can let his emotions get the better of him. Legacy: Both of Markus's parents led interesting lives back in the day, with their own allies and enemies, which now can be his problem. Lunacy: As Markus's mother is a werewolf, silvered weapons leave quite the impact on him, and coming into contact with silver can make him nauseous. He also acts more feral should he transform on a full moon, which is generally why he stays at home on those days. 5. The immediate crisis having passed, Maxima was able to turn her attention to the next one, and that was of course the fact that one of the other heroes had lost their head in the midst of the battle, quite literally. Maxima jumped high into the air, grabbing the robot's body that was still hanging in the air, and cradled it gently in her arms as she came back to earth. She called out over her comms "If any of you are mechanically inclined, we're going to need your help over here right now. I can set bones and staunch bleeding, but wiring and circuitry is a bit beyond my purview." Maxima was not used to being helpless at the sign of injury. She had quite the history with technology of course, but her training up until this point had always assumed whatever gizmo she was working with was functional. She could tell you how circuits worked, but hand her a soldering iron and asking her to fix one was out of the question. She placed the robot's body down next to its head, before stepping back and looking around anxiously, visibly uncertain of what to do next. "You're going to be alright. Everything's going to be fine." she said aloud to Hronos and partially to herself. She didn't know how repairable the damage was, but imagined "severed head" ranked pretty high on the scale.
  6. Wellllllll #$%^& summarized Cassandra internally as the wall of the lab was broken down before rather unceremoniously slapping her hand down on the big red alarm button. "Everyone out!" shouted Cassandra over the din. "Standard evacuation procedure! File out the nearest exit, and head to the upper levels. Use the stairs! Last one out, lock the security doors." she continued, reciting passages of the employee manual from training. One good thing about being in a conglomerate was that fact that most of the policies were standardized. While Cassandra was focused on getting the civilians out of the way, she shot a look at Cho and Thaelia who were likely about ready to spring into action. She hoped the young heroes would be enough to stall these interlopers long enough to evacuate the scientists, and hopefully give her an opportunity to slink away and Max out.
  7. There was one thing scientists loved seeing more than anything else, and that was progress. Sometimes it was seeing the decreased spread of a bacteria in a culture, sometimes it was finally solving an annoying equation that you had been stumped on for weeks and sometimes, it was when you saw alien wreckage in the midst of a malicious nano-bot swarm. Maxima was relieved to see the computronium breaking underneath her fingers, and was quite overjoyed to see that even though she was starting to build up a gray film on her skin, it was flaking off just as easily. Her dense cells seemed to be more difficult for the nanomachines to break down. "One hunk of space metal coming up." called Maxima to Terrifica as she tore into the ground with renewed vigor.
  8. First off going to use a HP to get rid of that nasty fatigue. Next, rolls for Computronium exposure Fort save vs Computronium, Round 2: 1d20+13 32 That would be a pass, and Impervious will ignore the Toughness bit of it. Then she's going to yank out that hunk of space metal from the computronium, or at least try, if successful she'll plunk it down near Terrifica for her to science! Failing that, smash any computronium that is impeding the progress of removing the space metal. And if Maxima has time to "attack" the mound, she'll do that. And so you don't have to dig for stats, +16 Strength bonus, lifting capacity of 72.
  9. "Hello, this is Dr. Steel. There's a repetitive banging emanating from the west side of the lab. Dr. Derns believes that Dr. Dixon's project may be the source of the commotion, though outside interference is not outside of the question. If we could get a team down here to do a sweep, and possibly contain whatever's going on in Dr. Dixon's lab, that'd be swell." said Cassandra curtly over the phone as if she was ordering take out. "It's first day on site and I'd really appreciate it if the facility had as many walls at the end of the day as it did at the beginning, you know how it goes." continued Cassandra, making a bit of small talk. This hadn't been the first time she had called security and likely wouldn't be the last.
  10. Cassandra jumped about a foot in the air when the banging started, whirling around to check on the behemoth, ensuring it wasn't the one trying to escape or batter down the barrier. She clutched her heart and breathed a heavy sigh of relief. The problem hadn't quite gotten to titanic proportions. Dr. Derns however seemed to think that this wasn't much of an issue. And after a moment, Cassandra agreed with him. Sure the guy was wrapped a little too tight, but when one worked for Grant Conglomerates for long enough, one got used to the idea of ignoring loud bangs if no one else jumped when they went off. "I'll get them on the horn." said Cassandra switching gears and making her way to the nearest telephone, having memorized the internal phone list that was on the receptionist's desk.
  11. "Let's go with the option that is least likely to incurr bodily harm to our interns hrmm? Especially because one of them is Atlantean royalty and while I don't speak as a public relations officier, I do believe they would side with me on that call." replied Cassandra, obviously a little upset that they were even having this conversation to begin with. She was about to continue when Thaelia let out her yelp, and onlookers could tell from the twitches in her brow, Cassandra was desperately fighting the urge to apply her palm directly to her face. "Thaelia, please don't touch the force field containing the kaiju-sized monster underneath the heart of the city without a scientist instructing you to do so." said Cassandra forcing her voice to be as calm as possible while she had to say another sentence she didn't think she would have to say this day. "If you could join us here we can go over the particulars and get the two of you off to work, ok?" as an aside to Cho while Thaelia was out of earshot she added "Please keep an eye on her, I really don't want to know the particulars of the Atlantean judicial system."

Thankfully, while Dr. Simian's experiments have uplifted other apes to sentience, not all of them have shown the hatred for humanity that Dr. Simian himself has shown. The most triumphant example of course being Silverback, one of Freedom City's foremost business men and philanthropists. He stands as an example that man and ape can live in harmony, and together can build a better tomorrow. Well at least that's the public story anyway. In truth, Silverback is a gangster, pure and simple. Each of the different gangs has their own niche in Freedom, and Silverback's claim to fame is arms-dealing. He's been making lots of power plays recently, and military grade weaponry is starting to make its way to the streets. Some of the heroes of Freedom City know he's dirty, but they can't seem to get any charges to stick, at least not yet. But its clear that if everything goes Silverback's way, soon Freedom City will soon have an all out war on its streets.

  16. "INCOMING~!" roared Maxima as she made the last leg of her trip at a rather unhealthy velocity, smashing down in the very heart of the computronium territory. Frankly it wasn't the smartest decision she's ever made, but she had made her bed and now she had to lie in it. But from what she had seen on the jump over, they were rapidly running out of time as the computronium seemed to be ramping up its production of its defenders. Maxima landed with the force of an artillery shell, sending a shockwave through the entire mass of computronium, even as parts of it buckled under the force of her impact. But Maxima wasn't satisfied with that impact alone, and she used the momentum of her fall to slam to her hands into the ground, buckling it with her force of her blows. She acted like a woman possessed, lashing out at pretty much the world itself, hammering on everything with reckless abandon, heedless of the gray film that slowly started to crawl up her boots. "I'm going to try to dig up an access point for you to interface with." called Maxima over the comms between tearing chunks of computronium out of the ground.
  17. Well technically, Maxima doesn't land until the end of this full round action. Since Maxima has Density and has conducted this large leap, she'll likely cause some damage when she lands. Whether or not this damage is purely cinematic or has any mechanical impact, I leave to your discretion Gizmo. Once Maxima land's however she's going to use Extra Effort to get an extra Standard action to try to smash, break, crack open, pummel and/or dismantle either ( A ) the largest amount of real estate she can or ( B ) anything that looks important to the governance of the machinery, prioritizing B over A. Maxima has an effective lifting capacity of 72, and a Strength bonus of +16. She'll take a 10 on Knowledge: Technology for a result of 25 to pick out anything that looks important. If you need any other rolls from me, let me know. Also since she is now in contact with the computronium, she has to roll some saving throws. Reflex save vs Computronium: 1d20+2 13 Close but no cigar Fortitude save vs Computronium: 1d20+13 18 If I remember right, that'll pass, if not let me know.
  18. She does not have Takedown attack, but I think I'll spend a HP to get it for the round.
  19. Then we must kung-fu fight! Well first off, going to use a Hero Point to brush off the fatigue caused by stunting the extra Leaping. All out Attack +/-2 for a total of 18 on the attack roll. DC of 31 Toughness, Maxima will inflict maximum knockback on the jackal, hoping to send it crashing into another jackal and so on and so forth. Let me know if this second part needs any additional rolls from me.
  20. Not touching the ground for a very long time was a very odd sensation. It wasn't flying by any stretch of the imagination, and falling with style was pushing it to be sure. The closest analogy that seemed accurate to the current way of things was that she was being catapulted through the air, her trajectory having been set the instant she was airborne. So seeing some of the computronium defense robots take actual flight towards her in a squadron attack pattern was disconcerting to say the least. Thankfully, her speed and mass made it quite unlikely that they were going to be able to divert her from her current course. The compu-jackals didn't know that of course, so when they got in dog-fighting range, likely expecting some sort of maneuvers from Maxima, she just barreled over top of them, punting the squad leader when it got close enough to her. Given her lack of aerial maneuvers, she hoped this first jackal would be the one to set off a domino effect.
  21. Maxima Slow month for me. - 2 IC posts - 1 IC Post
  22. Things were rapidly going from bad to worse. Cassandra had walked into the lab today expecting a mostly mundane go of it, well mundane for a cutting edge genetics lab anyways. Maybe analyze some protein strands, observe the effects of enzymes on cell structures, that kind of thing. Now she was being expected to allow teenagers, admittedly super-powered ones, collect tissue samples from a giant-four-legged-double-tailed-winged-kaiju-quite-possibly-breaking-international-law-bio-weapon-monster. "Don't worry you'll be totally safe." said Cassandra to Cho. "The specimen will be sedated well before you enter the enclosure. Isn't that right Dr. Derns?" she continued in a tone telling Dr. Derns what was going to happen, rather than asking for reassurance. "And you'll be supervised and instructed on the proper procedures thoroughly to avoid any incidents."
  23. Nope, proceed as scheduled.
  24. There was a time for caution and careful planning, but in every great endeavor, there comes a time where you have to take a great risk and hope it all works out for the best. Maxima had no aversion to those courses of action, working on the cutting edge of science meant always making leaps of faith, she just hated when a leap of faith was plan A. She jogged back a bit to one of the nearby sand dunes before taking a measure of the terrain. A little bit of mental arithmatic later, she had a pretty good idea of where abouts the brain of this contagion was, now it was only a matter of getting there. In truth Maxima could jump a whole heck of a lot farther than she did normally, she just tended to damage whatever she was landing on if she jumped too far, but in this instance, that particular detail was a feature and not a bug. "Here goes nothing." muttered Maxima to herself before she took a few steadying breaths before running back towards the computronium, leaping high into the air... and staying there for quite some time.
