  1. Blackstaff

It was a relief when the professor came around. It tended to be bad for business if your client died in the middle of the job, not always, but most of the time at least.

She gave Professor Armitage a shake of her head.

“I couldn’t tell you. At least not without taking time to examine it and probably call on some ‘outside help’. I’d rather not stick around that long though. Can’t be sure it isn't just napping or playing dead.”

The sound of an outboard caught her attention and Blackstaff stood up. Turning to face the direction of the lights, she moved closer to the mouth of the cave to get a better look at the newcomer.

“Just ‘Blackstaff’ is fine, or Mr. Daye if you feel so inclined.”

    She paused for a moment.

“Though I suppose Miss Daye wouldn’t be inappropriate at the moment.”

She offered, glancing at Golden Star then back towards the lights.

“And you did fine. Not every challenge you face will be easy. Sometimes you’ll fail once or twice before you succeed.”

    Blackstaff added.

“And sometimes you’ll get dirty doing it.”

She joked as the two of them stood there covered in grime and swamp water now.

“It probably would be better to get Professor Armitage to safety. If you need to leave as well, I understand. But I need to find the source of this disruption. And the source of the cursed items.”

  2. Paper

Leon didn’t actually care what Vik and Charlie talked about, he busied himself walking ahead a little. He rolls his eyes at the mention of running them through exercises.

“If you wanted to be a gym teacher, you should have gone back to Claremont.”

He teases. At the mention of the library he snorts, but doesn’t deny his curiosity.

“I could find that on my own, bu-”

‘-but, I don’t wanna break up the group.’

Was what he almost said. Low hanging fruit, but Leon was still bitter. He knew Charlie would ignore it, and it wouldn’t really make him feel any better saying it. He was just angry and had nowhere else to direct it. He really shouldn’t drag everyone else into it either, he liked Berni who was obviously in a relationship with him now. And Vik and Pol who were new to the group, well new-ish. Luke was his best friend, and then there was Muirne…

Damn it, this was just making him feel worse.

And that just made him madder.

“But, all you have is probably school books and encyclopedias.”

    He added with another snort.

  3. Paper

When Neko joined them backstage, Leon happily returned her kiss. He visibly changed when she took his arm in hers. He relaxed more and smiled more naturally.

    “You were amazing, as usual.”

    He grinned and chuckled.

“After this? Pretty sure Bernie is gonna be starving.”

His grin grew a little mischievous.

“But after that, we could ditch red and the square then go find somewhere we aren’t supposed to be.”

He leaned down, he kissed the top of Neko’s head by her ear. He gave the ear a teasing nibble before looking back out at the stage and leaning into her as well.

  4. Predator

Jean glanced at the monitor. She recognised the man on the screen, but her eyes slid over to a second, smaller monitor displaying a series of scans. She nodded to no one.

    “Let him in, Cynthia.”

    “Yes ma’am.”

A pleasant, synthesized woman’s voice responded. The door to her workshop/lab opened with the same synthesized voice greeting him.

    “Welcome, Dr North.”

Jean set aside her soldering tool and stood from her workbench. She wore a short lab coat over blue slacks and a yellow blouse. Her tail swayed behind her as she walked over to greet him herself. She smiled and offered him a hand to shake.

“Dr North, it's a pleasure to meet you.”

She tilted her head thoughtfully as her ears turned towards him.

“To what do I owe this visit? Given the unannounced nature, I would guess it’s something urgent.”

She waves a hand in the direction of a small kitchenette set up across the work space.

“Can I offer you some coffee?”

  5. GM

    “Pathetic!”

The woman sneered at Diamondlight, seemingly unconcerned by the others. That is, until Sea Devil drew a gash across her abdomen with the fightful end of her weapon.

The woman stumbled back under the blow. Perhaps had she seen how quickly the Deep One had dealt with the ‘vampire’, she would not have let her guard down. As it was though, dark ichor ran down the front of her dress mixing with the blood and staining it further. Even as Sea Devil called her challenge, something about the woman changed again.

Her flesh rippled and pulsed, expanding here and there. The limbs lengthened, arms and legs stretching as the fingers grew into knife-like claws. She doubled in size, then doubled again. Her flesh took on a sickly yellow green tinge as her face narrowed and sharpened. When she roared in outrage her maw threatened to split her face, revealing multiple rows of razor sharp teeth dripping with saliva. What remained of the dress was torn and frayed, barely hanging on to the alien frame.

Her scream of rage echoed out across the park and under the young dragon, Nightscale can feel the ‘vampire’ struggling to breach his grasp.

  6. I figure the plan is let SS attempt to take out the truck. See if the ringleader appears, if not, probably the strong girl being controlled will primary target for Predator to attack first.

    Anything to add K?

    initiative: 28

    damn it, wasted a nat 29 😛

She’ll still hold until Star makes her move.

  7. Predator

“Thank you for the clarification, Dr Fields.”

    Predator acknowledged.

“It’s obvious they’re expecting us sooner or later, but they can’t be sure when. Hopefully we can keep things from escalating further and apprehend the thieves quickly.”

Predator was already running towards the site, sure that Shooting Star would be on her way as well. Technically, she could easily build a jet back for the suit, but she just preferred to keep her feet on the ground in combat.

“I’ll signal you once I’m in position, then wait for your signal”

    She spoke as she ran.

“Once you’ve disabled the truck, hopefully their leader will reveal themself. Just  watch out for the strong girl the clown mentioned. She may be able to wield the caster, so don’t attempt to ‘tank’ a shot from it, as they say.”

  8. Blackstaff

For a moment, Blackstaff began to worry as the giant crocodile-snake abomination writhed it’s way out of her earthen chains. She stared it down as it seemed to turn its attention on her.

Suddenly Golden Star cried out and delivered a blow. A blow that finally knocked the beast out. Blackstaff swallowed, realizing her mouth was dry.

    “Well now, nice shot!”

She gave the boy a thumbs up. Licking her lips and exhaled a breath before remembering the professor.

    “Professor!”

She called out as she ran over to the old man. Checking his breathing and pulse, she tried to revive him.

  9. Paper

When Neko had told him that she wanted him to go with her to Tokyo, Leon was ecstatic. When he found out it was for Bernadette’s band to play at a club over there, he was even more excited. He was happy her band was doing so well. Leave it to Neko to get them that kind of exposure.

When he found out Charlie was going too, well, let's just say he held his tongue.

He distracted himself by reading up Tokyo, he wanted to make sure he didn’t embarrass himself or his girlfriend. He had already been learning to speak Japanese with Neko, and he wasn’t bad…

Of course, Charlie is probably already fluent in it, and like, a dozen regional dialects he thought irritability.

On the day they left, Leon had managed to be polite and even a little conversational. At least while the girls were around. When they weren’t, he was hostile anymore, but was still a little cold and distant to Charlie.

On the day of the show he watched from backstage with Charlie, grinning as Neko drew audible awes with her illusions. That was his hime at work.

On 3/2/2024 at 4:21 PM, RocketLord said:

"Neko's got some serious stage skills," Charlie says to Leon, as they watch from backstage.

“You don’t know the half of it.”

He wore blue jeans and a gray American Idiot t-shirt, with a white hoodie. He was still smiling even as the cat-girl vanished and Multiplicity took center stage.

On 3/2/2024 at 4:21 PM, RocketLord said:

"You two seem to be doing alright. So, how did you get together?"

Leon glanced at Charlie for a moment, obviously debating whether or not to answer. Ultimately he looked back at the stage and spoke. He couldn’t think of a good reason not to. Besides, he liked talking about Neko. She was important to him.

“She fell into my lap at a pool party, and I caught her.”

    He chuckled.

“It’s funny. Looking back on it later, I know she staged it. She hardly needed me to catch her. But there she was, all warm and smiling up at me. I was putty in her hands.”

    Leon grinned.

“And I haven’t regretted it yet.”

  10. Blackstaff

With the cavern not about to collapse on them, Blackstaff relaxed a moment. But it was short lived when she realized the Crococanda was still conscious.

    “Shit!”

She cursed as noxious fumes escaped its clenched teeth. She coughed and covered her mouth. For a moment the world swam before her eyes but she fought back and shook it clear.

A glance showed her Golden Star had managed to shake off the effects as well. Professor Armitage on the other hand, had not.

They need to put a stop to the now.

    “Pro’thioso Eshalco!”

Chains of earth and stone erupt out of the ground, attempting to wrap around the monster and bind it.

  11. Predator

Fleur’s suggestion to move to the Tower was a good one, but Paradigm’s desire to return to the Lighthouse and move on was perfectly valid.

“An honor to meet you as well.”

Predator had replied politely with a nod.

    Fleur’s comms unit interrupted pleasantries.

She didn’t recognize the name Dovox, but as Paradigm explained it she understood the seriousness of the situation.

Donning her helmet, it clicked and hissed slightly as it reengaged and sealed itself.

Star Kahn was smart and quick to recognize the possibility of collateral damage and suggest moving the potential battlefield somewhere more remote.

At Paradigm’s suggestion, she had Cynthia pull up the map around the Doomforge and nodded.

“That seems like a good location.”

Predator regards Golden Star for a moment when he offers to join the group, glancing in La Puma’s direction when he obviously looks to her.

“Very well, but if things get too dangerous you may be asked to retreat.”

She looked at Fleur, realizing she may have over stepped a some line of command, as it were. The other hero was a full-fledged member of the Freedom League and she was only a guest at the Tower.

    “Unless you object.”

  12. Paper

Leon paused at Bernadette’s words, glancing back at her over his shoulder. He gave her a grateful nod and started walking again, already digging his phone out and hitting speed dial.

    “Hey love.”

He said into his phone, even as a motorcycle of paper shaped itself. He glanced at Vik as she exited the warehouse, watching her walk off.

“Ya, little birdie told me you had a bad day.”

Paper formed into a helmet in his hand.

“Ya. Sure. Wanna sneak out and meet up at the Nation Pancake House?”

    He mounted the paper bike

    “Cool”

Soundlessly the teen rides off into the remaining night.

  13. Second woman’s opposed Bluff: 12

    That’s a big old nope!

    SD power attack hits.

    Toughness save DC32: 22

Okay, I don’t want to just hand wave away good rolls. So she will suffer the Staggered effect for now, but instead of being Dazed and losing her action you have gone ahead and triggered stage two of the boss fight. 😛

And so, that’s a +1HP for Sea Devil as the woman begins to transform.

Go ahead and IC @Avenger Assembled

  14. Paper

Not the strangest text he’d ever gotten. Leon had debated the text for a moment. It was vague but not stupidly cryptic, so he ruled out Charlie. No one else on the team would be using a blocked number…

    Unless…

Leon shook his head. The text had been sent to him and Luke. It wouldn’t be from his brother or sister.

In the end he grabbed some extra paper and headed out. A blank mask of paper with eye slits over his face and a jacket over his usual shirt. It was a new look he was trying out.

  15. He held his tongue as Owain spoke. His own family issues weren’t something he wanted to talk about.

Instead, he let himself be distracted by his girlfriend. She was tugging at his arm and he smiled at her.

    “Okay, okay.”

He chuckled as the two stood.

“Can I ask what it is, or is it a surprise?”

He smiles as Neko leads him back towards the drugstore.

  16. Chimera

Chimera shivered and squinted through the gloomy night darkened waters of the dock. A silent curse. Seemed to trigger a film to grow over the eyes, protecting it from the harsh contaminants of the water. She was finally able to focus and look around.

She caught a glimpse of something she thought was a figure swimming, and swam awkwardly after it. To her dismay a trick of light cost her the trail and she quickly realized she was going to have to resurface soon.

Moments later, Chimera broke the surface of the water and gasped. She swam back to the dock and climbed out, empty-handed.

Looking around at the bodies scattered around made her shiver for an altogether different reason. She sighed and approached Nightscale.

“It looks like Max got away, again.”

    She shook her head.

    “One of these days…”

    Chimera trailed off.

    “Thank you for your help.”

She looked around noting that Blowfish had indeed gotten away as well.

  17. GM

The ‘vampire’ snarled as she dodged Diamondlight’s flashing blade. Only to once again feel Sea Devil’s might. This time it was the deep one’s deadly weapon as it tore tagged holes through her tattered clothing and pale flesh. Dark blood splattering the ground as the hero leap back.

She released her hold on the man and he slumped to the ground, coughing and wheezing.

A howl of pain escaped her as she stumbled away from the attack. But, before she could react Nightscale seized upon opportunity and tackled the ‘vampire’ to the ground. The two tumbled and the dragon boy easy came out on top, pinning her under him.

    “My master no more.”

She spat red and hissed at the pain.

“No master ever again. He was weak to fall to children.”

Detective Pascal was standing but swaying a little as Detective Ramsey helped to support him. They were still trying to urge the other woman to them, but she seemed to ignore the two. Instead she moved to the side of the man she had been walking the park with.

    “Are you alright?”

She asked him, but there was something old about how she asked it. The man nodded as he gasped.

    “Yes, I think I’m-“

He stopped suddenly and coughed up blood. It run down his chin and covered his the front of his shirt. Looking down he pushed away from the woman and stared in confusion at the gaping hole in his stomach, then up at the bloody had of the woman he had been walking romantically with not so long ago. The man stumbled back into a tree and slid down to the ground and stopped moving altogether.

“Death may die, indeed. Immortality is his goal, and it is within his grasp.”

The blood covered woman stared uncaring at the man, still holding what looked like his liver in her bloody hand.

“The Master would never sink to the level of looking for lost pets himself.”

She lifted the bloody flesh to her mouth and bit into it like a ripe fruit.

“The Master was right. You are flawed. You couldn’t even tell I was using him to cover my scent.”

She tilted her head to regard the heroes her bloody mouth stretched into a far too large grin full of sticky, sharp teeth.

“I guess I‘ll have to deal with these three before I can reclaim you for the Master.”
