  1. He waved that away but chuckled. "Some sure are but I'm not giving it up. Doesn't matter how smart they are. My job is to stop this sort of thing, not let more people figure out how to do it." He shook his head and smiled. "Don't worry about it. We're just trying to help out. As for paying me back, no need. I think this _more_ than covers it." He reached into his jacket and pulled out a card. It was fairly simple with just his name and a number on it. He took out a pen and wrote a few names on the back before handing it to her. "Here are a few people who might have something for you. If it doesn't work out, give me a call and I'll find something else for you."
  2. Dark Star's glowing white eyes blinked once. Then a second time. "Ace?" He clearly seemed both stunned and relieved at the notion. "But...I thought he...er...she..er, well, you know what I mean was..." He shook his head. Now was the time to put aside his confusion. Ace could be in mortal peril! Dark Star quickly turned and focused his senses, scouring the inside of the ruin, the honeycomb, for his friend and the man who had captured him. Her. Whatever! Given that Dark Star had no face really, it was hard to pull off that stunned-beyond-rational-though kind of expression. But he still managed. After a VERY long moment of unblinking shock, he attempted to communicate. "Uh...um...they're...uh...you know..." He tried gesturing to help solve his stuttering mind/mouth. Hands made of energy making 'kissy faces' had little success in that endeavor. "I...uh...think they need another couple minutes."
  3. Have an HP for the less than helpful charges :)
  4. Squall looked like she was about to protest being told what to do but aborted her protest before it left her mouth as she considered Midknight's scary disposition. A look of intense concentration came over her face. A moment later, the clear day became a mostly cloud, but still sunny day. At least over the little village. The 'cloud cover' didn't extend that far nor was it that good. Likewise, Geode wasn't as helpful as expected. He looked around, flummoxed. "But, but...we're in a tree! There's no stone or dirt up here!" However, despite not being able to use his powers, he still began to look around in vain, trying to find materials to make rudimentary barricades like instructed. Halo seemed eager to please. "Right!" He turned and gestured, causing one whole hut to vanish and be replaced by a large group of bushes. He immediately began glowing like a dim light bulb. "Whew," he said, seeming a little winded at such a large (30' across) illusion. Feline and Pixie had the least problems, the pair taking off like a shot without word or complaint!
  5. James just listened patiently. He really had no idea what she was talking about. He could make a guess, in a vague way, but that wouldn't exactly fix anything. "Well, glad to hear she's taken care of them. I never doubted it for a second." He continued to stare at the open panel. "So...what do I need to do here? And how long till we get the ship back in perfect shape?"
  6. He frowned, knowing something was up. They were going to have a serious talk about this later. That and about keeping maintenance checks done early if that's all this really was. Still, he shrugged his shoulder. "Don't worry about it. Just remember to fill me in on the details here. There's no manual for this baby after all," he said with a chuckle. "Yeah, I see it." He moved over and looked the plate over. It took him a second or two to figure out how open the thing up but it came off easily enough once he got the trick of it. He peered inside the panel. "Ok...now what?"
  7. You currently have with you (I took some from the books, made others up): Feline (who is currently jumping around playing, not really working on the 'assignment') Kid Alchemy (who is NOT visible, did come up into the trees you know for sure) Halo (teen with minor illusion and light generation powers; Personality: a happy go-lucky 'choir boy Geode (minor earth/stone contro, can make self little stronger/tougher if touching earth as well; Personality: quiet, stoic, really not too social) Pixie (short before shrinking down to 1"; some mental powers; Minor Mental power: Persuasion, gains winged flight when shrunk; Personality: joker and silly when in crowds but actually quite bright/intellectual) Squall (minor weather control, flight lightning; spoiled rich girl)
  8. Dark Star watched with horror as Stesha seemed to fall for the Keeper's charms. He couldn't believe it! The entire world had gone mad! The Keeper had to be controlling her! That was it! So when the Keeper flew down and into the wreckage, Dark Star was a hair away from tearing off after with dark thoughts and feelings on his mind. Stesha's voice rang through however, pulling him up short. He was next to her in a flash. "You're here! But I...what...how?"
  9. James nodded. "I've got a couple people I can put you in contact with if you like. Make it a bit easier for you," he said. He shrugged his shoulders. "I could take it to a couple genius types to analyze and study. But I think what's more likely is I'll drop it in the Void, someplace nice and secure where it won't ever be found. Part of my job. It's not worth the risk of someone else finding it, using it or even if the damn thing will explode," he said with a shrug.
  10. James was looking around for something, anything that was out of place. He'd been in here several times but that didn't mean he had a clue about what anything in here did. Still, he he did his best, checking everything he could see. "You'd manage to call me and I'd find a way up here to help. No worries," he said with a grin. He couldn't teleport himself up this far, but there were other options. He paused as something she said occurred to him. "Minor asteroid? With the armor and shields on here? That won't be minor. And no real damage? You said you had almost no power. How is that no real damage?" He was rather skeptical...
  11. Trevor's quick fiddling was rather ingenious. And while it was far from perfect, it certainly got the job done well enough to get the point across. He flipped the little switch, activating the combination of gadgets. That's faint thrumming was suddenly articulated through the device's little speakers. ...tion. First. Net. Grounded. Arrival. Flight. Imminent. Attention. Second. Net. Active. Arrival. Imminent... After that, it seemed to repeat it self. The large creature glanced back at Trevor and his little device curiously for a moment before clicking its claws again. Trevor's little speaker flared to life in response: 'Go now. Hide. No safe.' With that the large creature flexed it's legs and launched itself a good 60 feet to the doorway of a hut and moved inside. Even as it jumped, Dark Star arrived before them. "Erin, Trevor. There's a problem. I need you to gather the other students and keep them safe. The Star Kahn has apparently gathered more forces and is here, liking planning on taking what doesn't belong to him," he said shaking his head sadly. "I need to deal with his fleet in orbit. I'll be back shortly. This shouldn't take long but I'm leaving the students' safety in your hands. Take care of them please." Without waiting for a reply, he rocketed upwards and was gone in a blink.
  12. James was all for helping out other realities and whatnot. He even was working on something like that. But transporting evil vampires to an unsuspecting world was just not going to happen. Well...maybe he'd consider transporting them to a empty world. With lots of sunlight. Nah, to risky no matter how tempting. He didn't bother voicing his thought, simply nodding in agreement with his partner. He would have preferred to lie to this other Jack and trick the info out of him but that wasn't an option anymore. "That doesn't mean we can help you if you help us. There's still the Mask, this Melinda and whoever else is in charge. A lot of those problems might go away if you help us out," he said, lying smoothly. "Where are the kids and who's got them again?" He didn't necessarily mean any of what he just said. It might happen of course, but that wasn't why they were here. It also went without saying, at least to him, that they still needed to take out the Taylor of this reality. She was too close to figuring out the dimensional magics. That was a risk/possibility James was just not willing to let leave for a later problem. The rest? Well, he wouldn't object to incinerating a bunch of evil vamps and removing a power magic from their hands if it could be done without jeopardizing the rest of them.
  13. James chuckled lightly and shook his head. "Don't look so glum. It'll be fine. Well, if you're interested in using your powers, there's any number of refrigeration companies, or even the the zoo, who'd be happy to have you. You'd save them a bundle on cooling and ice costs. Or, if you didn't mind a little travel, they'd kill for someone with your powers on the Arctic or Antarctic research stations." He quickly put his hand up. "Don't worry about the travel thing if you're really interested in that one. I've got access to a teleporter that'd send you there and back easy enough. It isn't always available but still." He grinned at the end. "Though don't know that head cracking skill. There's private security firms, police consulting and assistance and things like that. Plus, it's fun!"
  14. He smiled warmly. "Elena, you of all people should know better than that. Just because I disagree with you on something, that does not affect my view on you personally or professionally. I should have come by to check and see how you've been doing but I always seem to be so busy with one thing or another. I'll make time though, I promise." He smiled, just mentioning his fiance enough to provoke that reaction. "Thank you. She is wonderful. She's giving Jack's sister a ride I think; or was anyway. And she is the greatest, yeah. I am the luckiest person in the universe. This one or any one actually!" He smiled widely as the Doctor suddenly appeared and was greeting enthusiastically by Elena. He turned to include the genius as well. "Doctor Archeville, it's great to see you. I swear, this little party is doing more for my social life than everything in the last year combined. I really should get out more," he said half to himself. "How have you been?" He glanced over at Tayla and then back to Scarab and back before shrugging and extending his hand. "It seems Elena has forgotten her manners in her exuberance. I'm Derrick. I know her from, uh, work. And stuff." Smooth. Yeah, that couldn't be anymore suspicious if I tried. I really suck at this.
  15. James slipped it on, not needing it in the least. But if she couldn't tell him what was wrong, it wouldn't matter how great he could see in the dark. Making sure it was working, he pried the door open with his hands and looked/panned around the room. There was still something funny going on here, but that didn't mean there wasn't a problem to be fixed. "Ok, 'Seph. What am I looking for?"
  16. The large being looked down at Trevor curiously as he approached. It blinked large eyes at him and stared. At his name, the creature blinked once more and clicked the claws of one hand together in a series of clicks and clacks, some kind of pattern evident. It took a moment for Trevor to realize there was something else though. An odd scent wafted through the air briefly. He couldn't be positive, but he was smart and clever enough to know that scent had something to do with their communication. Erin however noted something in the pattern of the sounds. It was a progression of some kind. Of course she wasn't she what each pattern and set meant, but she was pretty sure there was one. It was about that time, they both notice an odd thrumming sound, vibrating enough for them to physically feel it along their skin. The effect on the large being in front of Trevor was even more obvious as it ruffled it's green fur. It turned from Trevor and looked upwards into the leafy rooftops but made no other motions.
  17. James was suspicious. Very suspicious. All the things she told him what the ship could do and take care of itself, this seemed a stretch. That said however, he couldn't risk the ship or 'Seph on suspicion. "Ok, 'Seph. it's going to work out. Just tell me what to do. I'm not going to let anything happen to you, promise." He quickly moved forward, looking around. He had zero knowledge on how to fix anything but it wasn't like there were a lot of options.
  18. He grinned. --Of course. Try and keep me away!-- The pair of them quickly headed out of the nice apartment and down the street to the shop. It was a gorgeous day and the boardwalk was quite full. They walked into the store after working through the crowds. The store was pretty big and had clothing and equipment for almost anything they could need. James nodded to the guy at the register, receiving a wide grin and a wave in return. --So, what are we going for or what are you interested in? Scuba diving, jet skis? Beach? I'm sure we could do get a decent volleyball match going too.--
  19. James gave a little nod and a smile. "It's quite alright. I was just spitballing. Let's stick with basics then. What do you like to do? What skills do you have? And, as a corollary to that, what are you good at?" He wasn't too worried; they'd find something. "Doesn't matter how odd or esoteric it is. Just trying to find something you'll enjoy doing."
  20. James muttered to himself. The first time the ship EVER had a problem and it had to happen now of course. He nodded to Erin. "Yeah, they are. Those these are a tad bigger than the normal ones according to record. Be careful. It's back on Deck 9, Section C. Everything's labeled well, follow the signs." Not that he was too worried. Those tigers probably could do more than barely scratch her at best. He turned as soon as she knew where she was going and blinked out, to reappear outside of engineering. He had no idea what it was like in there and didn't want to jump in blind. He checked the door sensors before heading inside. Who knew how the repairs were.... Wait a minute. The ship has self-repairing capabilities and a horde or robots to do it. "'Seph," he said a little suspicious, "what's going on..."
  21. Dark Star watching them... "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" And now we know why Evil Dark Star happened. ;)
  22. James shrugged a little, smiling a little more as the portal began to shrink even faster. A moment later, it vanished with a little 'pop'. He turned to look at her fully. "It doesn't have to have anything to do with your powers, but it can. If you've got any artistic ability, you'd make an awesome ice sculptor." He grinned. "I suppose refrigeration is an option. There's always stuff that needs to be kept cool and on ice. If you know anything about science, maybe we could get you involved in a suspended animation project or something," he said with a shrug.
  23. He nodded with a grin. "Oh, I', sure you could. I've actually got a couple things you might enjoy for that that I've been messing with. Less Playstationy and more hands on. Like MarioKart for real. But yeah, I know. I need to go out a bit more. Which brings me to something I need to tell you." He took a deep breath, getting ready to come clean when the alarm sounded and the ship lurched suddenly. He swore half to himself and took Erin's hand quickly. If he had to run down the hall and up the lifts, it would take time and who knew what was really going on? Time was vital. With Erin in hand and a little concentration, they disappeared. A moment later, they both appeared. James immediately moved forward, searching the screens. "'Seph, report. What's going on?"
  24. oh, make a Notice roll please
