  1. I have noted that a number of characters (mainly heroes) are ones that are potentially part of the high society of Freedom City. My PL 10 heroine Velocity’s father is a rich corporate attorney at Freedom City’s largest law firm, the Freedom Eagle II is the son of Mayor O’Conner, Shinken is the CEO of a major company and very wealthy, the Emissary is a diplomat so also potentially one that would be part of those circles. I also noted that one of the villains, Bael, with his wealth and alternate identity could be part of this social class.

So, I figured that a party at the Midnight Society would serve as a good chance for a bit of socializing and interaction in secret identities (with hopefully some Refs bringing in some of Freedom City’s wealthy NPCs).

  4. Down at the edge of Midtown, directly across from Liberty Park, the cool fall evening was far busier along a stretch of 52nd Avenue that was normally the case. Dozens of luxury cars and limousines were pulling into the mansion of the Midnight Society, dropping off those that were among the richest and most powerful individuals in the city.

The massive mansion was set back from the street, with a stone wall sheltering the grounds from the sidewalk. Just inside the wall were large trees that were starting to shed their leaves and well maintained lawns and hedges. A large circular driveway lead to the front of the old stone mansion that had several towers and peaked roofs. Off to the right of the mansion was an entrance to the gardens, which stretched around to the back of the mansion and continued beyond.

One of the cars pulling into the mansion's driveway was a dark blue Bentley. Megan Howell was sitting the back, her mother and father talking up front as her father pulled the car to a stop and the valets opened the doors. The young blonde had pretty much mentally prepared herself for what the evening likely had in store. While there was bound to be a number of cute young men to dance with, she knew there would also be a great deal of business and politics dominating the conversations that she would have to endure.

Taking the offered hand of one of the valets, the teenager let him help her out of the car. Megan was wearing a sleek red evening gown that left her arms and shoulders completely bare, causing her to shiver slightly in the cool evening air. The dress was perfectly tailored to her lithe and athletic body. Her long blonde hair was fixed back, and went down past her shoulder blades. Around her neck she had a platinum chain with a good sized ruby (her birthstone) hanging from it.

The young blonde moved up near her father and mother as the valets drove their car off to be parked, coming up along side her father as he led them inside.

  5. I second this idea. Referees (or even players) could write the "articles" that would appear in the fictional newspapers published in Freedom City.

Hehe, I actually forgot to say that when I brought it up, EF or another Ref had said that was something they were planning on doing, and, so far, there have been no completed adventures (or even encounters that are part of a longer adventure) to be written up :D

  8. EF and Refs....

Has the group discussed any plans with the Cape and Cowl Club from the Freedom City book? There are two ways it could be used really.

    1) Would be as written, a place for heroes (as heroes) to meet and mingle and interact.

    2) Would be to change it slightly so it is a "neutral" groud, where both heroes and villains can meet and interact without things coming to blows.

I guess it really depends upon the "feel" you want to try to give this world. And if you went with the first choice, I'd say there should probably be a "club" like that for the villains (perhaps run by the mob or something) where they could meet safely.

  11. This just came to me: a way to weave stories together is to reference other threads that have occurred. When my character returns to the Southside, he will notice the burnt houses on his patrols.

That is a good way to tie things together some, and easy to do right now as there are only a few things going on. As this site grows though, that will prove harder for individual players to easily do. That is the sort of thing that people did on the old CoH site I mentioned above, but as that community grew, it became impossible for anyone to read everything going on.

I had suggested early on that there shold be a "News" section where Refs could post about things that have happened (such as the fight in the casino) and give little summaries of adventures that make the news so players can more easily track the happenings going on (maybe even linking to the threads if people want to go read more).

One thing I remember from the early days on that free form site was there were usually Christmas and New Years Parties hosted by one of the supergroups that had formed (and the teen group I lead on that site hosted a Valentines Day party :)). These sorts of interaction threads were pretty fun, and sometimes lead to other things. The first New Year's party on that old site (2001) lead to the largest crossover that ever took place there, involving members of five super teams and dozens of solo heroes and villains. Most of the stuff from that old site is gone, but I saved that crossover thread here. I suspect that is something the Ref's and EF would like to some day see develop here.

And speaking of supergroups, that is something else that is somewhat lacking, right now everyone is an independant (which is fine and understandable), but supergroups give some sense of stability and connection by their nature. I had planned on getting some new people to come over and form a supergroup, but, they limited us to only 1 PL 10 and PL 6 character, so I would not be able to make the character for that group that I wanted and thus have not moved on the idea.

  14. [Edit]To keep this thread tidy and to make it easy to track changes, periodically I will be moving nonessential posts from this thread to the archive. -Barnum[/Edit]

Seeing as the character threads are locked once approved and moved to the proper forum, it would seem we will need a thread to state how players wish to spend any power points they gain from experience (and to get Ref approvals for those changes) or for other edits to the characters (changes to appearance, or adding some background info and the like).

I have a picture I would like added for Velocity…

  17. Well, I personally hope that we are able to make things tie together well with each heroes and villains stories and adventures. I got involved in free form roll playing on the City of Heroes website in late 2001 (yes, well before the game was released), and the group of people we had there (also mainly heroes) was very close knit for about a year, with people keeping track of things others were doing (generally) and crossovers taking place between super groups and the like. It felt like we were making our own comic line. Eventually it fragmented, as the community grew, but, unlike here, we did not have dedicated GMs/Refs that were overseeing everything.

I think that the problem I (and others) were talking about sort of came about that when the thread that several others jumped into was started, there were no sub-forums in “South Freedom†and when the thread “Southside†opened, it might have been viewed as for anything taking place in Southside. With sub-forms, it is easier for individual threads, within the same part of town to run contemporaneously.

The fight going on in the Boardwalk right now I believe was case where the villain started his crime, and the hero PM’ed the villain’s player to see if it was okay to have his hero intervene. While I said I am not a big fan of PvP, I am a big fan of good stories, so I could well get involved in some PvP where the story is good.
