  1. Now that was easier than expected. There hadn’t even been any lyrics yet and the music was already turned off again. Too bad, there were some cool, no, hot songs on there. Either way, at least he’d found who he was looking for. The fact she was actually glowing green herself … possibly a good thing, possibly not. And from the looks of it she’d been down here for a while. Invisibility, off. Bonfire walked a bit closer, so it was easier to see each other even in the low light down in the sewers. At this point most of his body had taken a solid form again, only his head being made of smoke, as was usual. He’d also switched his smoke powers around to creating fake clothes again, standing around in just your underwear was never fun. He lifted up the briefcase, and then looked into Marie’s eyes. “It’s all here, no worries. I’m not quite sure on the not dangerous part however, considering I just had two people be close to dying because they were around this thing for too long. Besides, how did you even know I was going to go to the … Good Spirits, was it? It was a spontaneous decision, so clearly you know something. “ Considering how these past few minutes had went, being a bit cautious probably was a good idea. And considering just how much things just happened to be coincidentally set up, Cass didn’t quite trust Marie just yet.
  2. Yeah, this was totally planned. The door and the manhole both being very suspiciously open. Well, a positive, meant escaping from the police was easier. Now those were thoughts Bonfire did not expect to have. Escaping from the police. With a briefcase of nuclear materials in hand, no less. This could easily be the start of a story about some super-villain. Hopefully it wouldn’t be. Opening the manhole up enough the briefcase fit through was hardly a problem, and it and Cass’ Hand were the only thing that actually had to fit, the rest of the body could just go through as smoke. Ah, the smell of sewers. So nice, flavorful and unique. Fortunately enough, by pumping enough smoke around his body, he wouldn’t smell much more than smoke. Now, how does one find somebody running away from somebody? There were a few possibilities, but it probably was time to be all but subtle. A few clicks, and Bonfire’s phone was blasting out music at maximum volume, all of it themed after smoke and fire, of course. He still was invisible, but this would hopefully mean that this Marie could find him. Then, he walked onwards, careful and slow.
  3. Hey, it's better to have a lot of communication with the GM than to have very little! If I have any suggestions I'll go ahead and post 'em. Also, I'm totally up for having Bonfire be a fugitive, at least until this thread is over. I imagine he knows enough people to get back on the Law's good side if he spends some time doing so between threads, but not while still inside this thread!
  4. Okay, since I'm heading to bed: Using Concealment 2 (Visual Senses) on himself. Then he goes to look for a back-door/other way out. If there are any, he'll go through there, and start looking for ways to get underground, an open sewer hole or something. If there's none, I'll write another post once you've replied!
  5. Well, at least he knew what was going on. Somebody being chased. Good enough. Very questionable methods. Now, the big question. Follow the law, and possibly have somebody die. Don’t listen to the police, get away, and possibly get into a lot of danger himself. Bad option one and bad option two. The choice between possibly getting into trouble, or definitely getting into trouble. Possibly be branded as a villain for a while. He had already shown himself, so there was no reason not to at least tell the police he was going rogue for a bit. “Sorry guys, this is more important right now! Somebody might die if I don't act right now.” No time for waiting, whoever this Marie was, she was in danger. He could deal with the police later, get on their good side again. Maybe he’d have to lay low for a few days, play some connections. There had to be a back-door somewhere. So, he picked up the briefcase, fairly cautious about it, and turned himself invisible, using the smoke and heat to bend the light. Then, he went to look for a back door, and in case there were any, get out. He’d just have to find a way to get underground … the sewers probably? Chances are this Marie was close to here, so there had to be a way down somewhere…
  6. The downward spiral of things getting worse by the second. The police arriving was a positive, probably. It meant the other two would be safe, hopefully. And they weren’t going to come inside. Well, if he’d have to, getting out was always easy for Bonfire. And then, the briefcase flipped open. No idea what exactly that was, but it was radioactive. Well, there was the source of what had happened. Another positive. It being radiated materials, probably high grade, was a pretty major negative. Immediately the briefcase was closed again. And then the phone. Okay, whoever this was, this was creepy. This was a set-up of some degree. Being left a briefcase of radiated materials by some stranger who had no idea Bonfire would even go here? And the bar receiving a call right as things went down? Was there a hidden camera somewhere in here? By now Time-Traveller became more and more of a possibility. Well, no reason not to pick up the phone. At least he’d know what was going on. Walking over to the phone, Bonfire made a quick stop at the window looking out into the street. He made a quick sign of smoke using his skills, spelling out “!!Radiation!!”. He also shouted out, hoping maybe the police could hear him. “There’s Radiation in here! Be careful! “ Then, he walked further to the phone, and gracefully picked it up, as quickly as possible. “Yeah, here I am, Bonfire, the one and only. So, what’cha got for me? Clearly you know what’s going on.”
  7. This was in fact not good. It was bad. Really bad. Terrible even. It was time for a hero. And it was time to act quickly. Whatever was affecting these people, it probably had to do with the heat. Magic probably. It usually was magic. Or some weird future-tech. Either way, evacuating was always the first priority. So Bonfire took action, leaping over the bar and trying to get the Bartender back up. Too heavy to carry. This was even worse. Well, hopefully he wouldn’t mind a few scrape wounds. So Bonfire grabbed the man’s shoulders, dragging him to the door, before sprinting back inside and doing the same thing with the other client. Once both of them were outside the door, he quickly grabbed his phone. By now 911 was in the speed-dial, he’d been using it a lot recently. “Hey, this is Bonfire speaking. I just had two people go unconscious and foaming blood. No idea what they’ve got, send an ambulance ASAP. I’m at the …. Good Spirits Bar.” He quickly told the dispatcher the rest of the address, before walking back inside. This place didn’t look like there were more people in it. Apparently somebody had left him a package. How? It’s not like they would’ve known he’d go here. Time Travellers? Magic? Weird Science? Either way, the best way to get a clue was to open the mysterious briefcase. And hope it wouldn’t blow up in his face. Well, at least the ambulance was already on its way if that were to happen. He kneeled down and opened the Briefcase slowly, while always being cautious about his surroundings. He still hadn't found the source of the heat, and all he knew it was an evil clone or something.
  8. OH WOW, somebody actually knew of Bonfire! Now, this wasn’t the time to freak out, but this definitely was good news. Usually it was just people on the internet, and maybe somebody that had seen him before, not the parent of somebody. Certainly, an accomplishment by itself! Cass quickly took out some of the cash he’d gotten and paid, before starting to pour the whiskey down the smoke, having it instantly evaporate, and having his head grow, both in size and mass. He didn’t really ever taste what he consumed beyond the smell of it evaporating, and this felt like most booze. Another benefit was not getting drunk off of it, so drinking a lot wasn’t really a problem. And then he noticed the temperature rising. Now, he did send out a fair bit of heat, so that was natural. But this very clearly was more than what was usual, unless this whiskey was mixed with rocket fuel. This wasn’t good. Something was going on. No idea what, but it was something. Slowly, Bonfire stood up, while slowly speaking. At this point he readied himself to get attacked again. He’d refuelled a bit so there was that, but still… “Speaking of hot. I know I’m pretty hot, but … did you turn up the heat or something? The temperature's rising much more than it naturally would, even with me around. You sure there’s not a fire or something? “
  9. 1d20 + 10 = 25 Notice Bonfire does not have medicine or life sciences, so no rolls there.
  10. Personal Preference would be B, but if Heri feels C is a better option I'll gladly take a new thread too.
  11. Well, this had been an interesting day already. Hostage situations always were difficult, especially alone. Considering where the criminals lovingly referring to themselves as “Throat Cutters” had set up, even more so. Well, a few illusions, some sneaking, and a whole lot of smoke had saved the day! He also had gotten a number, maybe one to call tomorrow, or some other day. And now it was time to go home. Well, not quite yet. Cass hadn’t planned for this much action, and unless he’d refuel soon, things would go bad. Not enough time to get home safely. Well, finding a bar or gas station usually wasn’t so difficult. And fortunately, he’d gotten a bit of money off the Gang’s unconscious bodies (hey, fair payment and all that, not like they’ll need it where they’ll be going). And so the capnokinetic stepped into the Good Spirits, his smoky head almost getting blown away by the air escaping the room upon opening the door. After the ritual of quickly examining the bar from the entrance, he walked straight ahead, up to the bar itself. This wasn’t exactly the fanciest place he’d ever been to and the music playing in the background was disappointing too, but he was here to refuel and not to enjoy his time. At least it meant drinks were cheap. So Cass sat down on a barstool and turned his attention towards the barkeeper. Hopefully he was still ware enough of his surroundings to even respond. He didn’t really pay attention to the other customer in here, chances were he was close to unconscious anyways. “Yo. I’ll take the most flammable thing you have. Heck, if you have gasoline in the back I’ll gladly take that.”
  12. And there we go: IC: http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/8972-ic-un-organ-ised-crime/ OOC: http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/8973-ooc-un-organ-ised-crime/
  13. http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/8972-ic-un-organ-ised-crime/ And we start off right into combat! The scene is a street, small stores on both sides. All of you are already on scene and have been for a bit, and have already defeated some of the smaller Velociraptor swarms. Since I'm throwing you straight into combat, everybody starts with an extra HP! So: Roll for Initiative!
  14. GM Wednesday The 20th of April, 2016 3:34 PM Southern Parkside It’s an average day, the sky is nice but a few clouds are starting to show themselves, life in Freedom City is progressing as usual. Then, a message far too familiar to those living here flares up on the TV Screens all across the city: “We interrupt this broadcast for urgent information” Just a few seconds later, a middle aged woman, holding a microphone shows up on the screen. She is clearly standing on a roof, a few others can be seen behind her. “This is Joanna Olubunmi, reporting live for Channel 5 and all others tuning in. Please avoid the area around Love Street, Parkside at any cost. If anyhow possible, this extends to all of Southern Parkside as well as bordering areas. It appears there are Dinosaurs rampaging through the street. Skeletal ones. The police have secured the perimeter, and it appears the street has been for the most part evacuated. Various heroes have also been stopped at the scene, and have already engaged the hordes of dinosaurs. “ In the meantime, a pillar of dark smoke rises behind the reporter, then quickly dissipates. Throughout the announcement some unnatural screeching, like the grinding of hard materials, can also be heard. Once Ms. Olubunmi has finished talking, the camera cuts to the view of the street. Cars are overturned, newspaper boxes and fire hydrants broken. Most windows of the street-level stores located here have been smashed in, and there even are cracks in the concrete in some places. Obviously striking out most are the skeletons running around the area, attacking objects seemingly at random. There are about two dozen skeletons resembling Velociraptors, slightly smaller than average humans. They are all grouped up in packs of 5, each pack featuring one bigger, bulkier raptor, quite clearly a leader of some sort. There are also lots of bones, quite clearly belonging to other Raptors, scattered around the area, having been taken out by the heroes on scene beforehand. Standing taller than the raptors are three bulky skeletons, standing slightly higher than a human, and about 10 ft. in length. Standing on all four, they have a thick layer of bone on their back, and a tail that a looks more like a boulder than a bone – Ankylosaurs, as anybody that liked dinosaurs in their childhood could easily tell. They were ramming into cars and striking the concrete with their bulky tails, one of them had even started smashing into a wall, leaving some cracks in there.
  15. Blue Jay sounds good, having somebody powerful on the team will be nice. (And adjusting the difficulty upwards is muhc easier than downwards!) Thread coming in soon!
  16. So I've decided I'll try my hand at GMing, now that I'm not completely new to the system anymore. It's gonna be a fairly straight up combat adventure, to keep it a bit simpler for me. 2 - 4 Characters Preferrably around PL9 to 11, but adjustments can always be made
  17. Bonfire moved his arm towards his head to think better. A few seconds later he turned the smoke into a little lightbulb, even if there was no light there. “I think I have a plan. Well, two to three actually, to have some backup. Pretty simple ones too. TL, your job’s simple. Follow the boat, as you suggested. If anything goes wrong, it’ll probably be loud enough for you to hear it. I’m gonna see whether or not I can’t convince them of bringing me along as a sailor. I should be able to, and then it’s just doing some basic work. Hopefully easy enough. Now, if that doesn’t work I have another idea, but more on that later. Svetlana, you try bribing the captain, or somebody else on the ship, you’re more experienced with this kinda stuff probably. Now, if this doesn’t work, plans B1 and B2. We find a crate, for you, and if they don’t want me to board, for me too. Then, we get in there, and I’ll use my powers to make it so we’re not visible to the naked eye. Then we just hope they don’t check the crates’ weight. Alternatively, we could also both sneak in invisible and hide somewhere, life rafts probably. Might be a good idea, if they find us we can easily just lower the thing and escape. But, that only works if we can hide in those things. Which one of those three would you prefer?” He walked around for a bit, before stepping closer to the group again, and continuing, talking a bit slower and more quiet. “Now, if things go south, we probably should try just escaping on a raft and going the opposite direction of the ship. They’ll probably assume we’re going back home, and if not, we just have to be more careful about getting to the island. Try hiding your powers as much as possible, they’ll be less scared then, hopefully. TL, you’d probably still have to drag or push the raft, considering they’d probably have something to fight us. Alternatively, we could obviously try fighting them immediately, but I feel like that could easily backfire. “ “That sound good enough? “
  18. “Well, depends on how closely they check the crates. Do they just take a quick glance? We’re fine. But, if they decide to check weight, heat signature or something else, we’re in a bad position. I can make sure they don’t see us, but not more. Thinking about it, me pretending to be a sailor might be the safest idea. If they decide to not take me, we won’t have lost anything and can try other plans, and if they do I’m safely on board for the journey. Maybe you should try bribery, Svetlana. If it works, good enough, if it doesn’t … how good are you at hiding? I might be able to help you hide well enough for you not to get spotted." "Obviously, we could always just say no to getting there on boat, find something or somebody else to get us there, and do it that way. But, we might run into a few other problems if we do it like that. TL, if we had a raft or something, how quickly could we get there with you dragging us at a speed that’s still safe? We’d just have to be stealthy once we got there.” Now this was going to get interesting. One minor mistake and chances were there’d be a firefight, on a boat, stuck in the open sea. And that would hardly turn out to be fun.
  19. It was cold. Walking around this late at night wasn’t all that fun. Sure, warming himself wasn’t a problem, but more heat was better. So, Bonfire had arrived at the docks, surprisingly not getting mugged on the way. Red certainly was prepared. Good, at this point anything was a positive. He moved towards the others, still wearing the same, illusionary clothes as back in the Club. “Well, I could try and act like I want a job. But, considering it’s 4 AM, that’d come off as highly suspicious, I feel. I can try, it might work out in our favour, it might not. Would be up to the two of you to decide, I don’t want to make this more difficult for all of us. I could also just turn myself more or less invisible and float onboard, but I highly doubt I’ll be able to keep that up for the entire trip. I’m tempted to say bribery might in fact be the best option, depending on how corrupt these people are. If it goes wrong, it’ll go properly wrong. Same for the cargo plan. I’m not opposed to either however. Speaking of which…” His head, no longer absent but simply made of dense smoke, fixed on Svetlana. His body language did not say anything, standing there as relaxed as ever. “It’s pretty easy to see how TL and I can stay hidden, but what about you? Any plans beyond bribery?”
  20. The capnokinetic spent the next hour enjoying himself and having some fun, without getting dragged into anything that would take too much time. Then, he retired to a more quiet table in the back, still with some view at the band. And so, the Bonfire Investigation Machine had been started! It was time to find out every last thing about every last thing involved in this. First things first, the person he’d be working with. A quick call later, and he had a file on Torpedo Lass in his inbox, nicely organized. Navy soldier, time traveller. Going through all the available info was fairly interesting, as usual with heroes. Her powerset definitely was more suited to this than his. She’d be interesting enough to work with. And then, everything related to the case. He ordered some more drinks to make it through the night, and then began scouring various forums. Always the quickest way to learn about less public information when in a hurry. … 30 HOURS. The carribean. Now this wasn’t mentioned before. This certainly made the journey there more difficult. Staying awake for another 30 hours was rather difficult, even if pumped up on coffee and gasoline. Well, hopefully Svetlana had a plan. There were some things Cass had planned for, but not a quick stay abroad. A few messages later to make sure his apartment wouldn’t burn down or people would think he’s missing, and onwards he went. Nothing noteworthy on the boat, seemed to be pretty standart fare. And wow. This Darwin X stuff was bad. Pretty much nothing, even when digging through some darker places on the net. Whatever this stuff was, somebody made sure nobody learned anything about it. Unfortunately, his connections, at least those that were still aware, didn’t know anything beyond “Hey, this is bad” either. Not good. And then, sesame itself: the stick he’d been handed. Lots of data. This must’ve been how office workers felt. Data on people, data on tides, data on ships, data on the plantlife, some encrypted things. Now that was a trail to follow! Well, not he himself, but rather.. And so Bonfire quickly dialled up Jake, his go-to computer person. Hopefully he’d still be awake. It was Jake, so chances were high enough, but maybe a bit of sweet talking would be needed to have him take a look at this encryption. Well, he picked up his phone, so at least he was awake now. “Hey Jake. It’s me. Long story short, I’ve got some encrypted files here. You up for taking a quick look at them? I don’t need them immediately, and I have no idea what could even be on there, but having a basic idea could help me in this thing I’m dealing with right now.” “Yeah, I’m aware it’s super late, but maybe if I ask real nice? I can get you some stuff for it once I’m back from this job. “ “Cold War-Military grade? Well damn. Thanks for taking a look, if you dig up anything else send it over. I’ll speak to you once I’m done with this. Well, good night I guess.” A few minutes of talking, and the search continued onwards. It was time to cross-reference all these things, figure out what sticks out, who is mentioned more often, and things like that. This wasn’t exactly going through the web to learn things, so it ended up taking a lot more time. By 3 AM Cass really only had learned one thing: He’d never be able to do office work if it was anything like this. He wrote out whatever names came up often, quickly investigating them, usually ending up with very little information and dead ends. So many dead ends. This was surprisingly frustrating. So when the alarm he set went off and it was time to leave, he actually was glad he could do something else. Well, the rain hadn’t gotten worse at least. He couldn’t really fly there considering he was carrying around his bag, so a trip on foot it was! Now he just had to hope he wouldn’t get mugged on the way there. For the mugger’s sakes.
  21. Using Connected to ask for a favour to have somebody take a closer look at the encrypted files: 1d20 + 20 =34
  22. Just a quick question: I imagine the stuff relating to the stick and the things on it will come at a later date? I formatted it a bit weird, just to make sure I didn't accidentally casue you to miss it!
  23. Well, Bonfire has 5 hours of time. I'll say he takes one off to enjoy himself, and will spend the remaining 4 taking a lot of 20s thanks to contacts. Each of those takes 20 minutes, which leads to a total of 12 I can make. Here's a list of stuff he'll look at in that time. All results are a 39, due to me taking 20 and having a +19 on it. -Torpedo Lass -Born Island -Bond 7 -Darwin X And then the remaining 7 on what he can find on the stick : -Names that are mentioned, primary focus the duke -Companies involved -Whereever the trail leads for the remaining 5 As well as a final one on: -A lady wearing red calling herself Svetlana, including all the details about her, to see wheter or not he can find even a single thing
  24. Good enough. He didn’t really know more than before, but also not less. At this point it was probably a good idea to get power-napping. Then again, a bit of gasoline mixed with coffee was also an option. There’d be no sleep for this man after that. Also, 4 AM. No buses. Rain. This was quite the predicament. Patrolling in rain wasn’t fun, so Bonfire would have to kill time otherwise. Well, he had his laptop on him, and he was in a nice, relaxed bar. Finding out just about anything about everybody related in this, at least those he knew the names of, would be easy enough. A few hours in here, a coffee à la Bonfire, and he’d be ready to go, prepared to fight crime! Maybe he’d even get lucky and the rain would stop by the time he had to go. Well, unless his partner in crimefighting had plans that he could help with. Plans which, almost guaranteed, would require going outside. Eeeeh, maybe not. Well, always worth a shot to ask. So, taking more of the great, almost burning drink he had bought, he turned over to Torpedo Lass. “Well, we’ve got 5 hours. Any plans you need help with? Preferably ones which do not require me to stand in the rain that is. Otherwise I'll make myself cosy in here and do some reasearch.”
  25. Ah well, actually, a bit of flirting wouldn’t hurt, right? Maybe he’d get shot down, either his advances or his actual body. The second wasn’t something Bonfire was looking forward to. But hey, trusting people was a good idea, so why not? What could possibly go wrong? Stay cautious and this would all play out fine no matter what. So the Capnokinetic (apparently that was the word describing his powerset) turned his smoky head towards Svetlana, examining her closely, not that anybody would be able to tell considering there were no eyes attached to Cass’s head, or even a proper head attached to his body. He put the stick he was offered into his bag without breaking eye-contact, before switching to a more flirtatious tone and talking some more. “Okay then, in a few hours at the harbor. Anything else we can do for you? And how about a way to contact you?”
