  1. When Mark opened the door, Mike's algebra book fell off his shelf and harmlessly whacked him on the back of the head. Mark winced, an apologetic look on his face, and took a step Mike's way. "Ah, geez, Mike, sorry about that. You okay?" Embarrassed as he was, the moment had briefly given him an opening; a reason to actually talk to his roommate. "I'm working on that."
  2. "Into the sewers," agreed Avenger. "Best spot." He led the way into a nearby alley, bending down and casually lifting up the manhole there, the stone scraping as he pulled it free. "Storm drain. Leads into the entire city system. You can go for miles and no one will spot you." With a look down into the darkness beneath his feet, Avenger stepped down and vanished into the gloom below, a splash marking his landing.
  3. Hope let herself be pulled along by Erin, after shooting a single murderous glare at Eddie. She'd had a rough couple of days too on the spectacular return to her homeworld, and was in evidently no mood to get into yet another violent confrontation. She staggered briefly as she stepped out the door, but kept her feet as she walked away with her head high. The music in Eddie's ears, having briefly returned upon his return to the familiar radio waves of Freedom City, abruptly stopped. Every piece of machinery on his body more complicated than the ties on his shoes was suddenly non-functional. Meanwhile, the fully in-costume, though somewhat grimy Edge, stepped off the platform. "Uh, no Grue, sir, just a lot of Nazis." He shuddered, even Edge's usual cheerfulness dimmed a bit by the grim place they'd just left. "But we did what we could to help those people. And we did. That's what counts."
  4. "Nah, I'll be all right." Mark grinned at her. "Thanks for the talk, Erin. It's given me a lot to think about. About Zoe...and everything else. I gotta run too, I'm late for meeting with Dr. Marquez. See you around."
  5. "Under the circumstances, I think I could tell what was on her mind," said Mark with a tight little smile. "And I'm not even the telepath." He shook his head. "Alex breaking up with me doesn't bother me, Erin, really. We just had a thing, you know?" He chuckled faintly. "And now everyone knows what kind of thing we had, too...anyway, yeah, we didn't have any feelings really extended to be hurt." He seemed to mean it, too. "I will have to talk to Mike sometime. Later."
  6. "I didn't know actually going to Florida was on the list," said Mark with a little laugh. "Have you been upping your distance without telling me, or are we going to ride the Prophet family airways?" He grinned. "Either way, I'm up for it. It'd be nice to be somewhere warm." When their food arrived, he smiled, digging into it with gusto. "I'm up for an evening of living in the moment. Best way to live, I always say."
  7. Always did like that Transformed Bystander! Could you fix the formatting on his Combat section? I have no way of looking at that and reading what his combat stats actually are. What does having no bones do as a disability? (Outside of getting belittled by those mean bone-having bullies. )
  8. Edge is bruised. He spends a standard action to drop his usual DC 20 Reflex/DC 25 Toughness save on every SHADOW agent he can see, as well as on the snare holding him.
  9. "Ach! Ack! Gah!" Edge was hurt, bound up, and really very unhappy. The SHADOW agents had no idea what level of danger they were in. "STOP HITTING ME!" Edge yelled! His fury at being so easily frustrated by these petty thugs came erupting out of him in a sudden rush, the air around him actually glowing for a second or two. He couldn't break his bonds, but he could break the men around him, and as every SHADOW agent within arm's reach of him began to go down amid explosions and screams, it seemed like he just might have done that.
  10. Jack gasped softly at her words, automatically pulling her against his body. "If you can take me for all that I am," he murmured to her, "then I love you, too." He leaned over and kissed her at that, his lips cool on hers again, gradually warming beneath her touch. He held her, and the moment, for what felt like forever. "Stay with me tonight."
  11. Well, can Phantom trace that teleport? :D
  12. Avenger hesitated a long moment, absorbing what everyone else had said while thinking of his own story. The walking dead. I'll have to remember that. He'd put down his share of mindless shamblers in his time; failed vampires who had risen from the grave with only a hunger for blood. The other seemed less threatening, though sometimes that didn't mean a thing on the streets. "Avenger. Clean up the streets. Deal with magical threats. Sneaking, strong, very hardy..." He hesitated, and when he spoke again, his voice had changed a little. "We'll talk about me afterwards. Have to see the work being done first. Easiest thing to do now is find where the necromancers hang out. Happen to be aware of places."
  13. "I don't know," Mark admitted, an almost shocking comment for Erin's friend to make. He remembered the anger on Mike's face, the feel of his hands on him as he pulled him high in the air. Come on, Mark, he chided himself. You've fought actual bad guys and not freaked out about it. Your friend getting mad at you can't be bothering you this much. "I'll be okay. It'll just take a minute."
  14. Mark nodded at that. "Yeah, I can believe they wouldn't want anyone around for that. Thanks for telling me, Erin," he told her seriously. "It...it clears up a lot of things." And makes other things all the more mysterious. He smiled slightly, looking back where they'd come from. "So, Mike and Alex, huh? I guess they'll make a good couple. Wish he'd said something before."
  15. In the interests of sanity, I'm NPCing myself and taking one of the NPCs out of the fight. Arachnos is stunned; can't give you guys too many HP. Doctor Archeville is up.
  16. Phantom's blast sent Arachnos staggering backwards, forcing the dark despot nearly to his knees before he rallied. That left his minions to attend to, Avenger joining Columbia in struggling with Valkyrie, keeping the aerial warrior from bringing her weapons to bear. It was an even match; they were both in for a tough fight.
  17. "There's always a way," Mark insisted with simple surety. "Our lives are not going to end in disaster and death." He didn't seem to doubt himself in the slightest. "Whatever happened in Zoe's timeline, the important thing is making sure it doesn't happen in ours. That must be why she made it back here, to warn us so we can make sure her future doesn't happen to us."
  18. "Oh. Oh, I see." Mark blinked a few times, taking in her story. He looked considerably less surprised by that than a normal person would have been, but then there was nothing normal about Mark. "Well...well, then, we've got to do everything we can to make sure her future doesn't happen. That's what you do when you find out that sort of thing, you do everything you can to stop it. Did she say how it happened?"
  19. Mark covered his mouth, sympathy in his eyes. "Oh, man! Does Eddie know?" He blinked. "That's pretty fast, though. Even if she is a speedster..." He scratched his head. "Was she pregnant on her world, then?"
  20. "Any time, any place," said Jack, his pale skin casting absolutely no reflection on the water beneath him. "Question is, how far can you go?" he asked her, backing her against the water. "Short of flying away, I think I've got you pinned. Shall I move onto demands now, or would you prefer to fight me for it?" He grinned at her.
  21. "Yeah," said Mark with a rueful laugh. "I guess everyone knows just how far we went." Mark was a teenage boy, but he was too well-bred to talk about his sex life where anyone could hear it. "Uh, yeah, I've been here a couple of times," he said as they made the quick transition from the short parking elevator to the big elevator up into the hotel. "It's a little out of my family's price range, and I don't exactly pay for it with mowing lawns. But we had my dad's 60th here last year, and my parents anniversary the year before that." He let James lead the way when they got up to the Starlight Room, trusting to his friend's charisma and good name to get them a table. Sure enough, one had just opened up, one that gave the two young men good seats near the live music, a cheerful Freedom City jazz band, and soon the company of a helpful waiter with a great interest in their welfare. Mark fell back on old patterns, automatically ordering the escargot and a Diet Coke. "What? I like escargot."
  22. Yes, yes you are. I'll post in this thread tonight.
  23. Mark gave Erin a look she wasn't used to seeing from him. "I'm not really in the mood to have someone carry me, actually." Casually, he pulled the grapple gun from his jacket and fired it at the roof, the grabber on the end neatly catching onto a gargoyle on the roof. "Meet you up there," he said as he climbed up the building, his grappler and his muscles pulling him up like a rappeller in reverse.
  24. "Hrm. Have dealt with Samedi before. He recognized me," Avenger added, more for Phantom's benefit than for the others. "Suggest we scout this opening," he added. "Have ways of disguising myself from most forms of detection, even magical. Suggest the rest of you do the same, as convenient." He wasn't at all sure the others could do anything like he could; even among vampires, he stood head and shoulders among the others.
  25. Let's give Shaen a little while to remember the good things about us before we hassle him too much. :D
