  1. Changing Toughness saves into Will saves is a little wonky, but I had an idea which could help give you the flavor that you're looking for without impacting the rest of the system. Here's a custom feat (or Feature, if you wanted to call it a power; either way, it'd be 1 pp). Feat: Strength of Will You can draw upon your inner strength to tough through even powerful blows. Effect: Instead of adding your Constitution modifier to your Toughness save, add your Wisdom modifer. You are still subject to the standard PL limits for your Toughness save, including any applicable tradeoffs. It keeps an attribute affecting two saves (Toughness and Will instead of Toughness and Fortitude), has a clear interaction with powers like Protection, and the slight advantage of getting a better modifier on a few skills that have Wisdom as the key modifier (while no skills have Constitution) is balanced out by not getting a bonus on recovery checks.
  2. Heh. There may not be any people on the street, but I'm guessing a fair number will be watching from buildings. At the least, that possibility can't be ruled out.

  5. Actually, there's something I want to clarify before we go further on. There's no rolling to confirm a critical hit in Mutants and Masterminds. If you roll a 20, you automatically hit, and get a critical hit if you would have hit anyway. If you extend your critical range with Improved Critical, you still only automatically hit on a 20, but you get a critical whenever you hit within your critical range. Now, Shinken, if you don't want the critical (because you already had a DC 30 Toughness save), we can just say that you pulled your blow because, all evidence to the contrary, you weren't trying to kill your sparring partner. But after that, there's a little confusion about when the recovery check takes place. It takes two rounds to make a full-round action while staggered, so Shadowboxer wouldn't get to make the check until after Shinken's gone again. It takes quite a bit to catch your breath after a hit like that.

  8. Yeah, it's not immediately obvious, but radar originally stood for "Radio Detection and Ranging" and that's how his Blindsight works. It's got a single rank of Extended, so it works about a factor of 10 better than sight. That'd give me about a second to see you coming, which would be enough to dodge (especially if you didn't expect me to see you). Also, for what it's worth, my Blast could hurt you... but I need to use Power Attack, and that means I'm less likely to hit than usual. I was making sure I didn't abuse the knowledge that your new form was much more vulnerable to grappling and Gravity Control. My bigger fear there early in the battle was that you'd grab a hold of me and start spanking me in a grapple. It was a good fight, and I think you'll soon be glad that you owe a favor to Heavy. For a villain, he's not ruthless or psychotic, and your owing him a favor also means that he'll protect you to some extent so that you get a chance to pay him back later.

  11. At first, Heavy is still coming off of his adrenalin rush, and his reaction is nothing but elation. "He almost got me there, but I guess his 'mecha' couldn't beat dad's suit... with Talos' upgrades," he thinks. Then, as Nanowire remains still, what he did fully hits him. "Oh man, he's not moving. I know I hit him hard, but..." he trails off as he bends down to look over Nanowire. Pulling off his Roman helmet, he puts his head down to where Nanowire's mouth would be, if the mecha weren't on. "I can't tell if he's breathing... where's the release on his helmet..." he says as he looks for where his had been, before Talos re-engineered it to mimic Daedalus's armor. Presuming he can't find one, he does his best to prop Nanowire up against a wall and wait and hope for him to wake up again.

  14. I only see one thing, and that's that you have one too many points in Immunity. I think that comes from Immunity (suffocation) being 2 points, not one. I'd also ask you to put your Reflex save and Initiative in parentheses, because you won't have that particular spell running all of the time, and I don't want it to grow confusing. Once you finish up with that, I'll be the second approval.

  17. Based on what we heard from Barnum, I have a negative DC for the notice check. For what it's worth, I also have Super-Senses which could actually allow me to sense your approach, so that's what I assumed happened. First, Heavy took his readied action to try to hit you. That missed with a 7, then you had your attack, which also missed. Since he knew you were about to blast away, he attacked as hard as he could again, and hit this time with a 21.

  20. Though he has no way of hearing Nanowire coming, Heavy's radar picks up something moving at supersonic speed, coming straight at him. As soon as it's detected, he moves to the side while swinging his arm out, narrowly dodging Nanowire's attack. Unfortunately, his blow is as wild as it gets, and he can't land it. But Nanowire is here now, and he knows he's got to try to end the fight before the mecha can blast off again. He steps forward, grabbing both hands together and swings at Nanowire with both fists, landing a powerful blow.

  23. I started with Mutants and Masterminds when I picked up a used copy of Mutants and Masterminds, 1st Edition at my local gaming store. 2nd Edition had already come out by then, but hey - a 10 dollar game book vs. a 40 dollar game book - how big could the differences be? As I read through it, I found that this system took just about everything I liked from the D20 system and hacked off the levels. It really felt a lot more like superhero gaming, and when I saw the freelancer fundraiser, I finally decided to order 2nd Edition from Green Ronin. My copy of the core still has the Post-It note from Nikchick, thanking me for supporting them. And come to think of it, I'm still waiting for the other fundraiser limited edition book. I wonder whether they'll send it to the right house when it finally comes out. Something to go check on... :D
