  1. Walking around for a while to find just the right kind of abandoned warehouse might have seemed like a good idea to start with, but now, Renichi found himself lost. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be too bad, but he seemed to have misplaced the very things he was looking for, and instead wandered into the suburbs. The feelings of being very out of place only intensified. Adding to that was the construction differences between Japanese and American buildings. In Japan, everything was much closer together, space being at a premium, whereas here, it seemed everything was too spread out. Differences in architecture aside, Renichi turned around and started back into the warehouse area.

  3. "" Nanowire grumbled in his native Japanese. He'd successfully circumnavigated the globe from space, hacked the GPS network to get exact landing coordinates to the meter, survived the wind shear and plasma heat of reentry, and even escaped the notice of the local populace by landing in an empty lot out behind a warehouse, only to land in a dumpster that seemingly hasn’t been emptied in years. He didn’t even want to think about the filth in which he was now swimming. Straightening up from his trash-encrusted LZ, Nanowire began scanning the area with milliwave radar. Standard construction techniques, no motion contacts – for the moment, anyway. The sound of his landing might send people running, though. Just as well he’d landed in a dumpster. As Nanowire clambered out of the metal bin, he sloughed off the outer layer of his armor. Biphase Carbide and Thermal Superconductive Orbital Crystal turned into so much junk again as the nanomachines that filled his body broke down the materials at the atomic level. By the time he’d climbed out, Nanowire, the bipedal assault platform, had been replaced by Renichi Sonada, ex-high school student. The smells from the surrounding area assailed his sense, making him wish he’d chosen another place to land, even if it had been more visible. Oh well, too late to worry about that now, he thought to himself. Renichi slowly strode off into the alley. Before the night was out, he needed to find a place to lay low. The sooner, the better.

  6. Actually, Southside is a part of Freedom City. Of course, they'll still need to make up the rest of the districts, though.

  9. Black sky. Renichi took a look around the infinite black abyss he currently occupied. The moon seemed big enough to touch from where he was, just a short two hundred thousand miles from where he now floated. He could get there in less than an hour if he so chose. It might be his last chance to do so, considering his ultimate goal was to be rid of the very powers that would enable him to make the journey under his own power. To be honest, Renichi knew he’d miss this more than anything once he became human again. The feeling of drifting without limits or borders, without cares. Total freedom. It was something he’d been decidedly lacking for the past year, what with the turning into a mecha and all. To be sure, there wasn’t much in the way of restrictions on his behavior. There were few people that would be able to stop him if he set his mind to something. No, the problem was that he didn’t have a plan up until recently. Planning was among his greatest skills, and he’d been neglecting that skill, much to his detriment. Constraints he’d placed on himself by… well, drifting, had caught up with him. Odd, that. Feeling entrapped by having too much freedom. But setting goals were what saw him through high school, and that’s what would see him through this. Time to go, Renichi Sonada, aka Nanowire, thought as he mentally directed his gravitic drive to orient him back towards Earth. The blue planet was still a ways off, as he was something like two thousand miles from sea level, out beyond the exosphere, but it was coming up to meet him quickly. Even now, it loomed enormous in his field of vision, nearly so much that it became difficult to see the curvature of the planet. Warning - now entering atmosphere - warning. His HUD chirped helpfully as he blazed into the upper reaches of oxygen-devoid particles. His speed was currently hovering at 40,000 miles per hour, a fraction of his full speed, but Renichi wanted to experience unassisted atmospheric reentry. The shock layer, he knew from class, could heat his external shell to 7800 Kelvin, or 1800 Kelvin hotter than the surface of the sun. His Biphase Carbide plating, however, could withstand heat in excess of 20,000 C, more than enough to keep him safe throughout this endeavor, and it wasn’t like he was coming in at Zero Angle anyway. He blew through the aerobraking process in a brutal 2 minutes, cutting a full minute off NASA’s best time, and reaching a neck-snapping 25 gees at steepest decent angle. Renichi had barely felt anything. The indistinct blues and greens had resolved into separate land and ocean masses, revealing to him his landing zone. The ugly grey blotch on the face of the world, something that could have been mistaken for a cancerous tumor if one personified the Earth as a living thing, now was recognizable as a cityscape. Freedom City, unless that GPS satellite Nanowire sliced had been woefully ill-informed. Altitude 2,000 meters and falling. Suggest velocity correction. Again, Nanowire’s HUD piped up, offering advice that would be clear to anyone with half a brain in their head. With an internal sigh and an equally emphatic mental nudge, Renichi turned off his auto-assist function. It wasn’t like it did anything important anyway, having all the creativity and initiative of a non-sapient AI. Besides, this was the most exiting part. The landing. It had previously occurred to him that radar might be able to track him as he descended through the atmosphere. There was no way to know how accurate the milspec radar stations were at ground zero of the biggest metahuman hotspot in the world, or exactly when he’d read like just one more piece of ground clutter. Therefore, falling on an exact ballistic trajectory was not only fun, but necessary for him to make a point insertion without being detected. Checking his rangefinder, Renichi found himself at 500 meters and falling. He’d long since achieved terminal velocity for his body mass and shape, so instead of a near-suicidal forty thousand mph, he’d only be hitting at a manageable two hundred; barely enough for his leg myomer clusters to hit mid-green line OpSpec. Nanowire might make a mess where he landed, but he wouldn’t feel much beyond a slight thud. Speaking of which… The ground was coming up really quickly now. A quick glance revealed there was only 100 meters to impact. One more nudge with his reactionless thrusters got his feet in line with the ground to better absorb the shock. Renichi could now see his land zone, near the south side of Freedom City. There should be plenty of places he could set up shop once he got there. 50… 25… 10… CRUNCH!!! Touchdown. (OOC: Nanowire's in town. Hide your children. (or at least the ones that work with nanotechnology ) I will expand on his landing, but I figured where I left off would be good enough for now. BTW, Nanowire looks like my avatar in human form. Currently, he looks like... well, think of a suit of seven foot tall powered armor, and you're almost there.)

Mine is Tetsuo Shima, the main antagonist in the glorious anime Akira. Oddly enough, he's also approximately what my current character, Nanowire, looks like without all his add-ons. (Minus the visible cybernetics, though)

  15. Ah, good! I guess he'll go to one of those conveniently-placed abandoned werehouses that dot the landscape of every made up city. :D

  18. Oh, I was unaware it was currently inhabited. I got the feeling from your post it only had people on it when there was a meeting or something of that nature. I'll have to mod my post a bit, but I'll need to do that after I get back from work. And he's not exactly claiming it as his own, either. Nanowire just needs a place to rest while he gathers info on Doc Otaku.

  21. Well, in the interests of kicking things off, villains-wise, Nanowire'll take up residence on the abandoned oil derrick. If any bad 'lil boys or girls would like to join him, he'll be busy making himself at home amongst the unused machinery. EDIT: Er, just to be clear, which board am I posting on if I want to do that? The sewers and subways one, or the waterways one? The waterways seems more likely. EDIT, Take 2: Nevermind, I should have read the above, where EF clearly spelled it out.
