  1. Well, kind of a crap roll, but Bluesman's solid Notice skill covered me. 1d20+11=17
  2. Josh raised his hands in a mock guarding position when Bobby told him off, chuckling. "Hey, I'm just saying. If it's the same girl, I hope I look that young when I'm 70 years older. Not everyone ages like you, old man." Josh leaned back in his chain, scratching the stubble on his chin in thought. "So, what are you thinking, vampire, bride of Frankenstein kind of thing? City's seen weirder in her time." His mind flashed back to the Gorgon Invasion, but he managed to keep a grin on his face. The city certainly had seen weirder. When Bobby mentioned the past, Josh leaned forward in his chain, leaning an elbow on the table. "There's a story there, I'm guessing? You gonna tell it, or should I go get it from her?"
  3. Josh shrugged as he took a seat across from Bobby, chuckling. "You know me, Bobby Jo. I don't get tied down to genre. Just do what you feel, and all that. I was thinking that I'd bring my electric and amp and blow the roof off with the rock, but I'm pretty sure you could take me if I pulled that in your club." He listened to Bobby's story about his great-grandfather. He'd heard it a thousand times, of course. He'd heard them all a thousand times. Still, it was nice to hear about it sometimes. Chester Sr. had died young, long before Josh was born, but Josh would have liked to have met him sometimes. He laughed at Bobby's last comment. "I think it's the other way around, Bobby. You've gotten how many Browns started in this business now? Speaking of, Dad and Grandpa say hi. Grandpa wants to come out sometime, but his heart has been acting up again. And my mom wanted to make sure you were coming for Thanksgiving this year." Josh laughed when Bobby drew his attention to a woman in the corner. "Hey, I'm not the dirty old man here, old man. You want me to chat her up for you, I can do that, though." He looked over to the picture Bobby pointed out, whistling quietly at the resemblance. "Huh, look at that." He glanced over at the pale woman, trying to do so surreptitiously, not wanting to cause a scene or anything. "Looks like everything but that dress jumped right out of the picture. Maybe they're related?"
  4. Four generations of the Brown family had played this club, from the namesake back in the 20s, when old Chester played the blues and made some forays into the jazz sound, to 2011, when the latest scion of the line sat on an old stool in the smoky confines of the club. Bobby was practically a member of their family by this point, all things considered. Jazz wasn't Josh's usual thing, but he had played this place for years now, and is was still one of his favorite spots to play. The crowds weren't huge, but you knew that each and every person out there loved the sound and what you were bringing to the table; when he felt like doing something raw and unplugged, and wanted to know it would be appreciated, this was where he went. Sometimes he roped a couple friends into playing with him when he came up here, but this time it was just him and his guitar. Josh was working through a slow, soulful tune that he had written recently, and the crowd seemed to be into it. Getting to the end of the song, and thus his set, Josh leaned forward in his stool, speaking into the mic. "Thank you. Have a good night." Standing up, Josh turned to begin packing up his stuff and making way for the next act that might be playing that night. Once he was done, and his things were tucked away behind the stage for him to load into his car when he left, he made his way over to where Bobby was sitting, offering a small grin and a shrug. "Not the kind of thing I usually write, but I figure I'm playing this place, I've got to bring the style, right?"
  5. Doktor'd 10/13/2011 Bluesman Quick fluff change; could you change the age line on Bluesman's profile to "21 (born December 1990)"? Doktor'd 10/13/2011
  6. Josh chuckled again, tipping his hat out of his eyes and glancing over. "No idea. Don't watch much TV, usually. But hey, I'm an appreciator of art in all forms, man. Hand-crafting those things takes some work, from what I understand. Too rich for my blood, though. Unless they sell them for a song, literally." Josh's gaze turned towards the well-dressed man. "He doesn't look the tattoo type, man. Besides, I think tattoos are against Islam. So probably not." Josh turned back to the crowd around their booth, taking up his guitar once more. For a change of pace, he began plucking his way through a technically complicated classical piece. Another tip was thrown into his gig bag, where a grey suit jacket, tie, and gloves was bundled up at the bottom. A hidden compartment hid a grapple gun and a domino mask. Josh figured that being prepared was best, after all.
  7. Whenever someone tossed some money Josh's way, he tilted the beat up old fedora he was wearing in thanks before taking the music back up. Once there was a lull and Maxie turned to speak to him, Josh rested his hands for a moment, waving to the crowd and taking off his hat and setting it down on the bench he had co-opted. "Maybe I should have dragged my electric down here, after all." He smiled when Max mentioned moving here on a permanent basis. "Well, there isn't a better town in the world, trust me. Born and raised here, and other places are nice to visit, but you're not going to find anywhere better than Freedom." Looking around, Josh continued. "Well, I saw a flyer when I was picking up strings at the music shop. Said street performers were welcome to come down and play during the Fair they were running here. A bit different from my usual thing, but I decided to come out and see what was up. Good crowds here, and you never know who shows up to these kinds of things, right?" Besides, never hurts to try something new from time to time. Liven up your life and all that, you know? Josh noticed the dour glares they were getting, chuckling to himself. "Well, it won't hurt as long as that guy doesn't come after me with a battle-axe, anyway." Taking up his own axe once more, Josh turned to the crowd, taking requests while Max turned to work on the tattoo requests.
  8. Josh smiled, picking up his gig bag and walking across the way towards Maxie's stand. When he introduced himself, Josh held out a hand to shake before turning and setting his things down. "Name's Josh, Josh Brown. Nice to meet you, man." Josh took a moment to look at Maxie's setup for a moment, taking a note of the design examples that were out. "You draw those yourself? You do good work, man." When Maxie mentioned coming down to his shop to play, Josh chuckled. "I was thinking of dragging my electric and my half stack down here, but I figured it would be bad form. But I might take you up on that offer." Josh turned, grabbing one of the cards and slipping it in his pocket. Settling down on a nearby bench as Maxie began setting up, Josh took up his guitar. He thought for a moment about what to play, before settling in and beginning an old carnival riff that his grandfather had taught him. There was something to be said for the classics, after all. As he got into the sound, he added a few embellishments of his own and going into a bit of noodling on the theme at times, looking to Maxie to synch up with his performance.
  9. If it matters at all, Bluesman will take 10 on his Perform checks, so 29 for the guitar playing and 22 for the singing.
  10. This wasn't exactly Josh's usual gig. Still, it was a fun little diversion, and you never knew who came out to these kinds of things. Josh had breezed into the festival soon after it started with a beat-up old six-string that he had fished out of his grandpa's attic, found an unoccupied bench to set his things down on, before sitting down himself on the back of the headrest and setting to a day of busking. His style ranged from classical guitar pieces to more contemporary works, and he even took a couple requests when the mood struck him, including a particularly rousing acoustic rendition of Pour Some Sugar On Me, though the request for Freebird had been denied and roundly mocked. He had even managed to get a few people to stop and listen, and a few of those even threw a couple bucks into his open gig bag. Josh had set up near the shop stalls. He noticed in particular a stall selling carpets a bit down from him; too rich for his blood, but he appreciated artistry nonetheless, as well as some kind of combination fire-breather/tattoo artist set up across from him. An odd combination, perhaps, but one that was proving to be a fairly popular stop on this stretch of park, at least for getting people to stop, which also helped some people notice Josh across the way. In a free moment, Josh called across the path towards the tattoo artist. "Hey, fire man! If you need some mood music, just shout and let me know!"
  11. I'd be interested in getting Bluesman involved if there's still spots. He's in for beating up baddies or just doing some talking, either or.
  12. September 22, 2011 Lincoln, Freedom City The riots had started pretty soon after the Gorgon had appeared. For some, the feeling was that the world was about to end; people who feel they have nothing to lose are the most dangerous of all. For others, the chaos and confusion was both excuse and cover for acting on hatreds, both old and new. There was a mixture of both in the streets of Lincoln, where the tension of the situation had broken out into a full on race riot, with black and latino gangs and mobs causing damage and looting in the streets. Violence was high as the destruction mounted. On a street in Lincoln, in a scene that was being played out all over the world, two groups were squaring off in the streets. These weren't the gang members, simply people who had gotten swept up into the fear and anger that the times had been causing. They shouted across at each other, and the situation looked to erupt into violence any moment now. Shouts in English and Spanish filled the air as the people leading the two groups began to inch closer. Over the sounds of violence, however, something could be heard. It caught the ears of the people nearest to the source of the sound first, causing them to fall silent and turn towards it. It spread like a ripple through the crowd, and they turned to see what the sound, now clear, was coming from. The sound of an acoustic guitar, playing a mournful blues riff, could be heard over the distant sirens and other chaos in the city. Seated on the hood of a nearby car was a young man, dressed in a slightly crumpled suit and carrying a six string in his hands. A fedora and a small mask obscured most of his features to the crowd as they looked on, either dumbstruck by the figure or seemingly fascinated by the song he was playing. After playing for perhaps a minute more, the figure stood up, straightening his hat and loosening his tie. Another ripple seemed to go through the crowd, as they snapped out of their reverie. A man shouted to the masked guitarist. “What do you think you're doing?†It was hard to tell if he was angry or incredulous. The figure tipped his hat down further on his head, shrugging his shoulders. “Playing a song, by the looks of it. What are you all doing?†There was a small hint of accusation in the words that went unsaid. Some of the group seemed suddenly apologetic, glancing around at the situation around them. Others, however, seemed undeterred. “Don't you see what's going on here, man. We're all going to die!†The masked man sat down his guitar carefully before answering. “I don't know about you all, but if we are going to die, I wouldn't want to go to my maker like this.†He glanced around at the crowd, which began to assemble around him almost unconsciously. He pointed to the people in the front. “What I'm doing is stopping something that you'll regret from happening. No matter what's going on in the world, what's more violence going to do to make it better?†A younger voice sounded from the middle of the crowd. “What else are we going to do, man? There's not going to be anything left after this.†Tipping his hat out of his eyes, the masked man responded. “Some of you all got families, I'm guessing. People you care about. Where are they now, while you're out here? I'm going to tell you what you can do. We're going to stop the violence in Lincoln. We're going to take it to the rest of the city and the whole country if we have to. There's evacuation centers set up, where you all can get to somewhere safe.†The figure took another glance around the crowd, which seemed to be swaying in their thirst for whatever they were here to find, either vengeance or just chaos. “I'm going to tell you what you can do. You can organize, and make this place better, instead of worse. You can help people get to safety. You can protect instead of destroy. That's what I'm going to do. But I can't do it alone.†The crowd stood still for a moment. In the sudden stillness, the sounds of rocks, pipes, and other improvised weapons could be heard hitting the ground. Some of the people dispersed, but many stood there. The masked man nodded, pointing to the men who seemed to be the leaders. “I want you all to start getting people to the evac points. If you run into any violence, I don't want anyone being a hero. I'm going to be helping with the peace keeping. I'll keep in touch with you all. Don't worry, I'll find you.†Reaching into a pocket, he handed out maps showing where the points had been set up. The men nodded, before turning and beginning to give orders. The masked man smiled, taking up his guitar once more and slinging the strap over his shoulder. He pulled out an old grappling gun, pointing to the roofs. He felt a tugging on his coat-tails, looking down to see a little girl, presumably hiding in the chaos. “Hey mister, I've never seen you before, and I know all of the superheroes in this city! Who are you?†The masked man smiled, shaking his head. “Me? I'm just a Bluesman.â€
  13. Sorry, missed that fix. Should be good now. I counted again and got 27 feats. I think I just messed up the summary at the end, but I might have missed something. I should be up to 150/150 now, unless I'm missing something.
  14. Fixed the typos and added the notes requested. I removed a rank of Dodge Focus to get down to my cap, and added the extra two points as skill ranks. Added a laptop to his Equipment.

Alternate Identity: Joshua Brown Identity: Secret Birthplace: Lincoln, Freedom City Occupation: Struggling musician. Affiliations: None Family: Carter Brown, father. Anaya Brown, mother. Charity and Candace Brown, twin younger sisters. Chester Brown Jr., grandfather and trainer Description: Age: 21 (DoB: December 1990) Gender: Male Ethnicity: African-American Height: 6' Weight: 180 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Joshua stands out a bit in a crowd. Standing fairly tall at almost six feet exactly with an athletic build, he looks more like a professional athlete than the struggling musician he is (or at least professes to be). Still, his physical gifts, helped along with a good amount of training, are fairly evident. His hair is kept cropped close to his head in a caesar. His clothes are non-descript most of the time, and might be a little ragged, most of it coming from thrift stores. If given an opportunity, however, he cleans up very well. He is actually quite handsome, and can be charming when he puts his mind to it. However, he doesn't think of it too much, and doesn't always put this to use. Most would not recognize him at night, however. Dressed in a fedora, a (usually slightly wrinkled) sport coat and slacks with loosened tie, and domino mask, the Bluesman's crusade on the criminal element of Freedom City continues in a new era. Inspired by his great-grandfather, he walks the night as a masked man of mystery, using his guile and skill to fight enemies both mundane and super. Or at least survive until the sunrise, as he likes to say from time to time. History: Josh was born into the Brown family, famous among superhero circles as the descendants of the Bluesman, one of the famous "mystery men" of the 20s and 30s. Chester Brown's son and grandson followed in his path as musicians, if not heroes, both becoming fairly famous local musicians. However, when Josh was born, it was both of his great-grandfather's lives that caught his attention. He followed the exploits of modern heroes closely, wanting to be like those heroes as a young child. He especially idolized those heroes without powers, standing up against threats with only wits and guile (and perhaps a bit of high-tech). He shared this dual passion with music, learning to sing and play guitar at a young age as well. This was not unnoticed by his family, however; namely, his grandfather. His grandfather let him in on a little secret that he had not told his son; he had wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, and was trained to do so. However, the original Bluesman's death as well as a leg injury meant that Chester Jr. could not take up the mantle. However, he could train Josh to do so. Josh jumped at the chance. He learned the skills of the mystery men; how to fight, how to investigate crimes, and other useful skills. Once Chester Jr. was satisfied with his grandson's skills, he revealed one more secret; the preserved suit, hat, mask, and gear of the Bluesman. And so, Josh began his own career as the second Bluesman. At the moment, he lives with his grandfather; ostensibly so that he can live in the city rather than the suburbs until he can get an apartment of his own. For now, Josh has managed to stay out of the news enough that he hasn't had to explain anything to his parents. Of course, since he's pretty much the most obvious suspect as the new Bluesman should anyone do any research into it, he tries hard to keep his head down. Still, it won't last forever, he realizes. But he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it, he figures. For now, Josh earns money as a musician to help his grandfather make rent and pay his own bills. He usually can make the bills working either as a session musician or playing bars, but its usually a close thing. Still, he wouldn't have it any other way. He even manages to cobble a little together to help fund his nightly exploits. He might not have all the high tech tools, but he's got a nice suit, a sweet hat, and not enough sense to stop getting himself beat up every night. Life is good. Personality & Motivation: On the whole, Josh is laid-back and mellow in demeanor, and one of his greatest strengths is the ability to keep a cool head even in the most stressful situations. This isn't to say he is completely passive, however. Much to the contrary, he can get pretty competitive and ambitious at times, though it's usually friendly when he does. He has a bit of a sarcastic streak to say the least, and tends towards gallows humor to deal with stress. Despite this he is rather caring and has a bit of a hero complex; he can't stand by when something is going on and he can help. He is a charmer through and through, and is quite unashamed of it. He is a bit of a flirt, and definitely a sucker for a pretty face, but he usually means well. Perhaps the only time he seems completely serious is when composing or playing his music. Josh, despite his almost carefree demeanor, is deceptively smart and cunning, has a great deal of common sense and is very good at thinking on his feet, which has served him well. He can quickly dissect a situation, formulate a plan for solving a problem, and execute it. This makes him tend towards rashness at times, however, trusting his gut rather than taking a second look. While he is self-reliant and at the moment works alone, he enjoys working with others whenever possible; especially other heroes. He is both mentally and physically tough, and is the type to never know when to say quit, which has both served him well and gotten him in trouble in equal measure. Powers & Tactics: Josh is a normal human (for a certain value of normal, anyway), which means that he has to rely on training and a couple gadgets to get the job done. He has a couple of interesting little gadgets that he inherited from his predecessor; not exactly high-tech, but very durable and quite able to perform their functions. He is also a trained boxer and wrestler, able to hold his own in a fist fight. He is also skilled at stealth and misdirection as well. He is also a skilled detective despite his young age, able to dissect a scene and find clues easily. Complications: Secret: While he is proud to carry the mantle of the Bluesman, Josh knows that it wouldn't be too hard to intuit who he is. So, he tries to stay out of the spotlight to keep his secret, and his family safe. Struggling: Josh makes a living as a musician. He can usually keep the bills paid and pay his half of his grandfather's rent. But he doesn't have a lot of spending money. Enemies: Josh has made an enemy of organized crime, though they don't realize the connection between him and the Bluesman. For now, though, anyone wearing a suit and a domino mask is persona non grata to the mob.
