    The Charlston

Johnny stood outside the door leading into the small apartment in little India on Freedom's West Side. For a moment, he hesitated, debating on whether to knock or not. Stalling, he checked over his clothes, a nice lightweight beige slacks and a white cotton button down shirt which hung nicely off his broad athletic shoulders, and decided again for the thousandth time that they would have to do. Which left him staring at the door in front of him. Inside, he hoped, was the girl he had met at the Renascence fair. Who, beyond being very pleasant company for the afternoon, also seemed to do just fine while tangling with dragons. He still was stunned and surprised at how that had all turned out. Which led to him being here, on a Friday afternoon, at the door of a girl he had only met once and only had walked around the fair with. "Well she did offer to teach you the Charleston..." he said quietly to himself. If she was in, and if she hadn't been kidding, he had found a band that could play all sorts of swing pieces. That coincided with a dance hall which didn't mind renting the space for a few hours as long as they could have some of their own students practicing as well. Perhaps it was a little forward, but it had taken a fair amount of work to find Lucy and her small apartment, so he figured why not? Searching archives of the city's papers as well as some internet work had uncovered scant little information on her. Although it narrowed down the areas she seemed to work in. Her home had been harder to find and required both some deduction as well as asking a lot of people in the area if they had seen a "pale, elegant, woman perhaps in her 20's". It had taken a couple of days and some greased palms, but he had a place and here he was. The moment of indecision passed, and he knocked on the door hoping there would be an answer.

    Adventure Time

So if you're down one, and are looking, I wouldn't mind joining. When I saw the thread originally, it looked you had enough... and still might. However, if you are missing one, then I would be happy to fill in for someone.
  3. I have a PP which was heading to wealth: 2, but being a teen, I could understand if he wouldn't fit. Let me know.
  4. ...and I wouldn't mind throwing Johnny in to something like this. He's wealthy and also an altruist.
  5. I just realized I should post here... Wellspring Killing Time (5) Ren Fair (11) GM: Apply to Wellspring Killing Time (10)
  6. Right, since I'm back from the dead, if Arichamus wants me to run, I'd be happy too.

    Killing Time [IC]

GM The guy at the door stared after Zach, but didn't give him any more notice than he would any of the other thousands of teenagers who swarmed the mall like locusts. His gaze, hidden behind sunglasses, shifted back to the crowd, patiently waiting on the outcome of the people inside the store. What caught their attention more was the young hot head whom they had watched with passing interest break up a wonderful distraction from an over exuberant mall cop. As he approached them, they game him little apparent notice until he began trying to convince them that they really should let him know what was going on. While he was very persuasive, it was not really in their nature to pontificate on their scheme and with a curt wave they tried to dismiss him like the last teen.
  8. Appologies, went through a nasty bout of stomach flu. Init: 1d20(3) + 5 = 8 Notice: 1d20(11) + 5 = 16 So slow and clueless is how he rolls into battle!
  9. As Lucy stepped out of the changing booth Johnny had to remind himself to close his mouth. Not only did she look like a princess, he began to understand what people saw in Renascence fashion. He had no doubt she would win many hearts today. "Yes... yes you do," was all he could manage to get out as she was whisked away then collecting his thoughts he called out, "good luck princess. May favor shine on you!" He watched her walk away and then followed the procession as it made its way to the tourney grounds.

    Killing Time [IC]

GM "Hey!" the guy in the overcoat growled incoherently as Zach rammed into him. "I think you need to get scarce if you know what's good for yous." Knocked a little off balance, he clumsily reached to grab Zach's shoulder, doing nothing more than pawing at the youth. Yet Zach found out several things in quick succession. The guy did have some kind of stick like thing, probably a gun, in his jacket. Also, there was another in the store arguing with a clerk. The goon in the store was sticking a finger into the chest of an older man and saying something while the older man looked like he wanted to sink into his shoes. There was a decent amount of cash on the counter and a small till bag where it had come from looked to be ripped open.

Yes I was waiting for Subito since Heritage is in the store, but its been long enough, so go ahead and post. We'll just assume he failed.
  14. Just chiming in that I would be happy to run a kicker or two to help you out after your request in chat/
  15. "You think I will?" he said a little dubiously of the felt tights. However, he had commited to the process, and he never minded a good laugh at his own expense. "Well then, I'll take them. Can we leave our clothes here and pick them up on the way out?" The head of the small shop, smelling a decent sale had come over and relieved the young girl who had somewhat helped them. He was plainly dressed, but like all of the wares in the store, what he wore was hand made, "but of course good Sir. We can have a page even run them to the main gates of the city when you are ready to leave." Thanking the man, Johnny thought about what he knew of the Charleston, which amounted to nothing other than it was a dance. "Hmmm, well then I'll take dance lessons in lieu of payment, if you can provide them..." he said to Lucy with a smile. "I'm sure some where will play the music if you can show the steps. I'll likely even end up in your debt." When he looked at the proffered piece of paper, he realized it made perfect sense. If they were going to have a show, they'd want the players to all be in costume. However, he didn't know a girl that didn't want to be a princess sometime and he didn't know of any princess who wanted to borrow a dress. So turning to the tailor, he said, "anything she wants, charge it to me. I believe she's the daughter of our queen and needs to look the part." Then, whispering to the man he said, "you know that scene in that old movie... Pretty Woman?" The man nodded at him waiting for Johnny to complete what he was saying. "Just that now would be a good time to make that happen. You can take this and check credit just to know that I'm not joking and would be most happy to see it done," he said it very quietly passing his credit card over to the man. With a smile that showed he understood exactly what Johnny was saying he turned to one of his assistants, "apprentice! We have the princess in our establishment, make sure she is treated accordingly and find raiment suitable for her grace!"
  16. Outfit that Johnny is going to end up in. The one for the guy on the left in goldish.
  17. She was right, the suit did fit her very well and she did know how to wear it. It could have been a second skin for her as natural as she made it look. The black tailored clothes seemed to offset her smooth pale skin, which so far as she had stated, showed no effects from the bright sun above. "Oh it does," Johnny agreed readily not needing any encouragement to tell her so. "Still, this is a Renascence fair and while they mean period costume, that's not quite the period they are talking about. Now... if this city has a jazz club well you'd have it spot on! Oh... and just saying, if you ever needed a dance partner, I can swing, mambo and fox trot." The last he finished with a smile. Emily, bless her, had loved to dance, and made him be her partner. While he wasn't really good at them, he did know the steps. "As for the struggling student, no... that's not really me," he replied. Usually people got funny when he told them he had money, somehow he didn't think she would. There was something vibrantly alive about her that transcended simple monetary concerns. "I was paid really well to do sports and I guess my dad is really well off too. Money's not much of a problem for me. Besides, you need to appear before the queen later on and the responsible thing would be to show respect to her majesty by dressing befitting a princess. It's really my treat and I'd be happy for it." As he finished, he held up a pair of what looked like felt tights that completed the outfit the tailor had chosen for him. How people dressed like this he had no clue, but hey, he could play along, "besides, if I have to wear tights, you so need to wear a dress."
  18. Okay, that should be enough to run it. Please give me a yea if you are in and who with. Nit won't be a long thread, but should be amusing.
  19. "Well there's that," he agreed readily. "Although, can I ask why you're wearing a 1920's suit? I mean, you wear it well, but I'm sure she meant that it wasn't period costume. You know, stuff like this and all," he said holding up a corset along with a billowy dress. "You know," he continued, "if I'm going to dress in costume, you really need to join me. It's my treat. Pick out whatever you want. I'm sure they can fit you with no trouble." He was just putting the dress back on the rack when something she said struck him as odd. This fair was celebrating it's 32nd year. There was no way they weren't around when she was growing up. He thought about asking her, but then he'd face the unenviable task of asking her how old she was or correcting her. Maybe later he'd bring it up if it fit what they were talking about.

    Killing time [OOC]

When those of you see this, if you pass a DC20 notice check, you notice two guys standing outside a Wolf Camera. They are looking like they are standing guard for something. This is only enforced by the outline of concealed firearms under jackets. Both are dressed in overcoats and wearing sunglasses inside the relatively bright mall interior. They actually stop a customer from entering and relatively politely direct them elsewhere.

GM Alex looked over at the store and scowled realizing that the girl was long since gone. How had everything gone so terribly wrong. He had a badge... and a pad of citations just itching to be used. Well, okay, the badge wasn't really official, but it added to his demeanor. Rape? He hadn't said anything about rape had he? He glared at the boy in front of him, weighing his options carefully. He didn't really precisely recall what he had said, and some of the crowd behind him didn't look all together happy with anything he had done. Not that he would admit it to this degenerate in front of him, but he did have an issue with anger management and sometimes he said things he couldn't quite recall later. It was possible... He pulled out his pad of citations, scribbled something on the top line and flashed it to the boy. "See! I have you right here. Make any more trouble and this is going right to the department of youth corrections. Now, disperse while I go patrol another area of the mall!" With that, Alex turned and promptly marched away in the opposite direction.

    Killing time [OOC]

Oh my. I'll do the intimidate at lunch when I write up the response. However, in the mean time, could I also get a notice check from everyone not in the store. Now, the question to ponder is whether to give a nice fat +2 for a nice intimidate, or does that get balanced out by the indignation at the false accusation... I think I'll go with the +2 for well said. His check will come in a couple hours.
  24. For just a second Johnny thght she was gong to elbow him; until the social graces drilled into him at multiple prep schools kicked in. Inwardly chiding himself and perhaps a little flustered by Lucy's easy grace, he none the less accepted her arm and began moving through the fair. It was a busy day and getting close to the end of the season. So all of the performers and entertainers were giving it their best. The air seemed to have a pregnant expectation of amazing things to come and Johnny found himself getting drawn into the spiriti of things. Finding him some clothes, sure why not. If they were going to spend the day here, might as well do it right! "Cramping my style?" he said with a little chuckle, "no, not possible. It's not many days I get to escort a princess around now is it? Besides, I just met them as well, and if I might pay a compliment to her grace, they pale before my Lady's beauty," he said with a smile as they passed a pair of jugglers who had occupied a small podium in the center of the thoroughfare. They seemed to have a colorful routine, but priorities being what they were they headed towards some of the vendors buildings. "Although I would offer you the same. I'm sure you came with your boyfriend, or a group. If at any time you want be with them, it's fine. Letting me escort you thus far has already completely made my day." It had been a long time since he had been to a Ren Fair, and he wondered whyhe hadn't as the pagentry flowed all about them. The buildings were amazingly decorated, and he was surprised by the number of costumed particiapants. Even the people who didn't seem to be part of the fair had taken part which he should have guessed given that he was one of the few on the bus who had not been in period attire. Craftspeole of every sort, smiths, potters, glassblowers and more both showed and made their wares calling out in passable accents to the crowd to observe or buy. It didn't take long to find one of the many tailors who called to their attention. "So tell me My Lady Lucy," he said while looking through what looked like white pirate shirts which he would have to pair with a tight fitting colorful vest, "Do you frequent these grounds often? Or were you coming today just to see what it was all about?"
