    Killing time [OOC]

Not too distracting and I had skills on the brain which add the whole bonus. Yes, it was a nine, I knew that there was no way he could move Subuto's arm with that. Just wrote it wrong... editing coming in 3.2.1.done. As for alarms, no problem. I am not going to make people stick to a plot on rails. What you do, is what you do :)

    Killing Time [IC]

GM "Whoah!" Alex shouted as Subito placed a hand on his shoulder. "Time to move along, unless you want more of this!" As if to emphasize, he pushed Subito's arm, intending to fling it off his shoulder in dramatic fashion. What happened in practice, was far less spectacular. In fact, as he pushed, nothing happened at all, much to his consternation. Awkwardly turning to face Subito, he snarled, "this is none of your business punk, unless you want to mess with the law!" Of course, he wasn't really the law, but that was a fact that he was not about admit... even to himself. Johnny meanwhile was looking around wondering what kind of madhouse he had landed in. All he had been doing was wandering the mall, looking at what was here. Why this guy had it out for him he didn't know. Nor did he have any clue who the newcomer was either. "Um... look, I didn't steal anything, and I just need to go buy some clothes. Are you sure you have the right person?"

    Killing time [OOC]

This is for an opposed strength check... not that it will likely matter. Alex the overzealous Community Watch trys to push Subito's arm. Str 12 (+1) + Roll 8 = 9 Invisible Castle doesn't seem to want to let me register. So since the likely hood of this mattering is zero, I just rolled it at home. Subito, I don't think you can fail, so I don't need a roll.

    Killing Time [IC]

GM: As Zach spoke, a pair of girls who had been whispering to each other and checking out both what was happening along with the cute blonde newcomer who stepped up behind them. One turned to Zach, batted her eyes at him and said, "OMG! So like this guy was just walking along, you know? And that creep that comes here to 'patrol' the mall... like we really need that. Anyway, he picked on that guy over there, I totally don't know why. That guard is a total looser."

    Killing Time [IC]

Johnny stepped through the front doors of the Bayview Mall. It looked new; like fresh coat of paint new. Given the places he shopped, wasn't all that unusual. The only really odd part is that it looked more like part was new and part was old. Still, architecture wasn't really on his mind given the funk he was in. "I don't care what you get, but your father did say something respectable. We didn't really pack much for you and figured you'd just buy what you needed when you got here," Emily said with a tone that expressed her disapproval of the wasted spending. "He wanted me gone that quickly?" Johnny replied stuffing his hands into his faded cargo shorts. Emily favored him with a smile, "he did mention that he wanted you here for the start of school, and that he didn't care what it cost. 'Just get the kid there.'" "Yeah," Johnny replied, I guess that kind of figures. "Look, you can either enjoy what and where you are, or not. That choice is yours. You're here for now, so make the best of it." Johnny nodded and smiled, he'd made the best of it before, and he'd do it again. Just why New Jersey? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Alex Johnson fingered his night stick as he looked from one beatnik to another, practically daring them to try something. Technically, he couldn't hit them first, but if they caused trouble. Well they were his. Of course, they must have known this, because he couldn't seem to catch any of the degenerates doing anything wrong. Putting the radio to his mouth he called, "sector seven is quiet, but there are a lot of suspicious types here. Continuing patrol." There was a pause and a sigh that might have been a person or might have been interference, "is that you Alex?" "Captain of the Bayview 21 to you," he snapped back into the radio. "Yeah... well Captain, just keep in mind that these people are really her just to shop. This isn't some kind of war game." "You can shirk your duty and next thing you know you'll be living knee deep is the worst scum of the earth." "Right Alex. Um... maybe next time, you should leave the mall to us." "I'm going to enforce radio silence on you. Discipline! Now turn that comm off!" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Johnny made it over to the opposite side of the mall, kind of grazing past the windows and not really buying anything. His heart wasn't really in it and he didn't really care to shop normally. Still, as it stood he had no clothes so to speak and he might as well make use of the time. Making his way over to some clothing stores he found one that looked acceptable enough. Next to it was a video store which looked at least somewhat well used. He had just about made it to the store when someone grabbed him from behind. "Where do you think you're going?!" came the voice of a guy that sounded like he was amped up on far too much coffee. "Into the store..." Johnny replied a little confused. "I don't think so. I saw you steal that!" the man shouted loud enough that people nearby started to gather. "Steal what?" Johnny said. "I haven't been in a store yet. What could I have..." "Quiet! I have the authority here to take you in for questioning!" the guy shouted raising his already loud voice another step.

    Killing time [OOC]

Okay... well we have two intro's and that will have to do. Assume the stores are next too each other and that both characters can hear the commotion going on outside.

    Killing time [OOC]

Great! Feel free to go ahead and place yourselves at the mall. We'll get people together then a little drama! Ooooooh.
  9. Thanks for the clarification. I probably put in too much info in the OOC thread, but I guess too much information can't be too bad.
  10. Well if you can handle someone who is equally unfamiliar with things, I am your person. I do have patience in abundance and a desire to write. So if you'll have me, Wellspring would be in.
  11. Thread is up: OOC Thread. Killing Time [OOC] IC Thread. Killing Time [iC]

At this point, the thread is open for introductions, and setting to place the characters at the mall. I'll move things along as we are doing those introductions and conversations.

    Killing Time [IC]

Johnny looked out the window of the Bently as it motored through the affluent Bayview neighborhood. He sighed looking at the prim, well cared for lawns and topiary of the many large sprawling estates and homes. Everything was cared for, and the brick houses screamed money and influence with their white picket fences and neatly painted trim. "Don't sigh," the young blonde girl sitting next to him said without barely glancing up from her magazine. "You sound morose when you do." "I feel morose Emily," Johnny replied pressing his head against the window of the car. "We're in New Jersey. This is totally not USC." "No," Emily replied setting down her periodical and looking over at her ward, "it's not. However, your father seemed pretty clear on what he wanted. Private school until you reach an age where you can make... let's see... how did he put it? Oh yes. Responsible decisions." "Great," he said, "another prep school. You know, you'd think that he'd have given up on them by now." "Well like his son, he's very persistent," she replied with a disarming smile. "Besides, I think you are going to like it here. I was able to choose this prep school for you this time. It's not another military academy this time." "Well that's a relief," Johnny said before forcing a smile back to her. "Although after the last time, I'd think they'd chalk it up to a disaster." "Yes, well that is true. Oh, driver, there is a Bayview Mall in the area. We need to do some shopping if you can drop us off there?" - - - - - - - - - - - - Alex Johnson looked across the crowd that seemed to gather in the halls and corridors of the mall. What he saw made him both scared and a little angry. At least half of the people in the upscale shopping center weren't even from the local area. They had been practically bused in from the Southside. Didn't they have their own stores to loiter around? Regardless, he was not about to let a bunch of sneakthiefs and vagabonds ruin this neighborhood. Not on his watch. It wasn't that he disliked those people. It was more that he disliked them being here instead of where they belonged. There.
  14. OOC thread for killing time. Act I: A lazy afternoon. Several heroes from Claremont Academy are spending a lazy afternoon at the Bayview Mall, shopping, hanging out and generally taking a break from school. Setting Bayview Mall, 09/09/2011 Cast Johnny Hladd, Wellspring Subito Sondo, El Heraldo Zachary Vandermol, Covealent Jeena Vandermol, Cubic (possible) Supporting NPC's Alex Johnson, Head of Bayview Community Watch #21 Emily Dawson, Au pair
  15. That would make four, which would be the limit of what I would want to try and deal with. So yes, I'd love to have you both. If I have convention right, I open both a OOC and an IC thread on this, correct? I'll get the threads started in a bit, and we can go with three, or four if Cubic/Heritage is in.
  16. Love to have him. Brash and forward, that's two peas in a pod. Could still use 1 or 2 more to make conversation flow a little better and perhaps flesh out an encounter :)
  17. Since I had a character approved, I was told step 2 is to get into threads. Since none of the ones listed here really apply (or are already going) I thought I might try something kind of simple to see if I can get my feet wet. I'd like to have Wellspring meet some Claremont folks, but not at the university. Perhaps at a mall, or other area which would make an intro thread that's not quite like a "hi I just showed up at school" kind of deal. My thought was Bayview Mall would be ideal. Beyond an introduction, I was thinking something along the lines of a city watch confronting a "shoplifter" which might require a more diplomatic solution to the problem. Also, as I understand it, the mall is none too keen for people from Claremont to hang out there given the properties history with NextGen. Since I am really new at this, unless a GM wants to help out, I would like to keep it to 2 other people to keep it small and flowing. If you're interested, please let me know.
  18. Done, and noted on the post change. I did that on my phone and forgot to put up the other post. Been traveling for the US holiday weekend so was out of touch for a couple of days. His name is Hladd, it's a Czech name although he's several generations removed from his ancestry. As for strength, perhaps that will be for some upgrades... Edit: One other minor change which I don't think will affect anything other than ease of use. It was suggested to me that Area: Burst is more game manageable than Area: Explosion. So I switched that over on the trip attack. No points change, the power doesn't really change, but I can see where it's easier to use in a PbP environment.
  19. Since the powers also have a measure of indirect, I can see where they are not that noticeable. They are bursting from manhole covers and piping, or whatnot. The others are move and create, again allowing them to be operated away from him. Or at least that's my understanding. I like them there as it makes sense to me and fits his story more. Otherwise people would have noticed much longer ago. However, if they can't be then obviously I will pull them.
  20. Okay, shifted a couple of things. (1) Dropped defensive roll, just shifted to +5 def / -5 tough. (2) Added Uncanny dodge in place of Well Known, which is where I got the flat footed of +12 (3) Dropped Maneuverability on flight. Did not replace power. (4) Formatted Skills to standards (5) Edited suffocation so it is water based. (6) Shaen made the array, I just coppied it from the Water Control vs. Move Object thread. I think his reasoning was that subtle was so he wasn't lighting up when he used them. I liked the idea and the array and lifted it wholesale, dropping only one AP.
  21. Player Name: Ozob Character Name: Wellspring Power Level: 10 (150/156PP) Trade-Offs: +5 Defense / -5 Toughness Unspent PP: 6 Progress To Bronze Status: 6/30 In Brief: California surfer turned hero. Sent to Claremont when he'd rather be looking forward to USC, he's unsure of what he is getting into. Alternate Identity: Johnny Hladd Identity: Public Birthplace: San Diego, CA Occupation: Student/Professional Surfer Affiliations: Various sporting bodies Family: Anthony Hladd/Father, Emily/Au Pair Age: 18 born 10/31/1993 Apparent Age: 18 Gender: Male Ethnicity: American Height: 6'1" Weight: 205 lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Blond Description: Johnny looks every inch the Californian surfer, from his long unkempt blond hair, to the toned and nearly always tanned body. He has a vacant, but charming smile which only gets focused when he's surfing. He has a very warm demeanor and is quite congenial and inviting, even around strangers. Often times he looks mischievous, or like he's sharing a joke on the rest of the world. As for facial features, they are strong, but not overbearing. A faint scar on his chin is only noticeable when he hasn't shaved and his stubble makes the slight off colored line more noticeable. He dresses in the classic Californian beach wear whenever possible. The concept of a suit is nearly inconceivable to him. Bermuda shorts and comfortable shirts are all that he seems to want or need to wear. While he occasionally wears sandals or some kind of beach foot wear, it's more likely that he's walking around bare footed. His voice is nothing to remark on, other than he tends to project his voice very well. As for demeanor, he walks with the self assured gait of a professional athlete. He is lean and lanky, and it shows in the way he stands; a casual but very upright pose. Overall, he is a very striking and good looking man, who is both at one with himself and his surroundings. Power Descriptions: Johnny controls water much as he does one of his own limbs, it just happens as he thinks about it. He's never thought to deep about it to question how it works, it just does. When he uses his powers gouts of water burst from sewer mains, pipes, lakes and occasionally pulling humidity from the very air. When there is no water, he has to create his own, pulling moisture from any nearby source, be it lake or aquifer. Finally, when he moves, there is a veritable tidal wave of water that moves with him... propelling himself and others along. Yet to really move he needs his board, orsomething close. History: Johnny's powers manifested themselves at birth, yet he didn't fully grow into them, or realize their potential until much later. His mother died of an infected kidney stone when he was seven leaving his father to raise the Johnny on his own. Anthony Hladd, a vice president for a large insurance corporation, had neither the time nor inclination to care for his son full time. While money can not buy happiness, it can buy an Au Pair, which is exactly what he set out to do. After an extensive search he found Emily Dawson, an Australian Au pair who was willing to make a multi year commitment to work in the states. Within a few weeks of starting as the families caretaker, Anthony realized that Emily was both exactly what was needed, and also what he despised all in one package. She was intelligent, caring, and very good at her job. Yet she also taught Johnny to surf, as well as other "wasted" skills as his father saw it. While Johnny respected his father, he grew to love Emily as the mother he lost and just as his father began to realize what sort of influence this gentle spirit had on his son, it was far to late to dismiss her. So instead he tried his best to groom his son to follow in his footsteps, however the free spirited youth seemed more inclined to idly waste his days away surfing or spending them contemplating the world around him. While his father appreciated art and idle sport, they were certainly something that others, usually homeless and starving, did. There were prep schools, business seminars, motivation coaches, and all other manner of methods he used to try and turn his son from a life of idle waste. He and Emily disagreed on practically everything important and while he couldn't fire his son's new found mother, he could do his best to try and turn his life around. Through it all Johnny accepted this with a Zen like calm not typically seen in an average teenager. While he loved his father, he idolized Emily and had no desire to follow in his foot steps. So he took all the classes, seminars, and prep schools and whenever he could, he found himself on the beach doing what he loved. The irony was that he was very very good at what he did. So much so that he began to get national attention for his surfing skills. By the time he reached high school, Johnny had little need for an Au pair. It was his father who had become used to have having someone care for the house and handle day to day affairs. While he didn't approve of Emily's philosophy, he did appreciate her efficient competence. Hiring her on a permanent retaining basis he gave her the opportunity to remain with them as long as she wanted. Thus their odd family remained intact for far longer than typical for a nanny. She ran the house and some of his domestic affairs, as well as keeping tabs on Johnny. This became more important as his powers began to manifest themselves even stronger. Until recently, most uses of his powers had been relegated to odd freak incidents. Pools of water forming in the oddest places, strong currents being tamed, or even rain when it was most needed. It was a scary prospect when you could lift most of a house into the air. Yet with his gentle demeanor, and Emily's guiding hand, he managed to skate through this troubling transformative period with relative ease. So much so that few even in his immediate neighborhood knew of his potentials. What people did know him for, was his surfing talent. After being sponsored by several companies he had a breakout year in 2009 and became one of the youngest leading money winners on the professional surfing tour. For two years he surfed on the circuit, earning several million dollars and some grudging respect from his father for making the best of a bad situation. He made even more headlines in 2011 when he quit the tour, citing the money and sponsors were conflicting with the spirit of the sport. He finished out his obligations for the year, donating all his winnings to various children's charities. The move strained the growing relation between him and his father, and realizing that he had very little time left as the boy's ward, gave his final try to turn him to the right track enrolling him at Claremont academy in the hopes that he would make something of himself. He has forbidden Emily to change any of these plans and has requested that the school teach him discipline in his powers, but more importantly his mind. Personality & Motivation: Johnny is incredibly laid back and slow to rile. He is easy going, open almost to a fault and very friendly. He'll blindly trust people, assuming that their good nature would not let them burn him. To his credit or luck, that has not happened often. When it did, he is quick to forgive and accept blind strokes of fate. When he does take action, it is decisive and without any of the regret or worry about paths not taken. What he wants in life is to work on his surfing and to find a small place of his own on a beach some where. While he is wealthy, money is not something that motivates him in the least and he is very generous with what he has. He genuinely enjoys helping people and spends a reasonable amount of time with various children's charities and homeless shelters. He loves to be in on a good joke, as long as it's not cruel or mean. Being and extrovert, he likes to be around people and will go very far out of his way to find a beautiful vista or brilliant sunset. When he is not doing something specific, he would spend as much time out doors as possible. Finally, while he has heroic qualities, he has not yet become a hero. He needs to learn what it means to selflessly help people and perhaps polish both his image and powers. Powers & Tactics: Johnny is slow to truly engage people with his powers. Instead, he will start trying to keep them away or hold them off as long as possible. If he has defuse a situation without hurting others, he will. However, when he needs to be decisive, he acts and moves with the assuredness of an athlete. Many times he will try to knock people down, slow them, and frustrate them with jets and steams of water. If things are serious, he will try to find a board to get maneuverable and blast out at anyone who is a threat. He can do amazing things with water, and will often times make free standing structures to provide cover, or to encircle opponents. When in very desperate straits, he will attempt to flood whatever area he is in. Complications: Wave of Destruction When Johnny moves at full speeds on his boards, he generates enough water to potentially cause minor property damage/flooding. Unfortunately, he doesn't always think of the effects that his abilities might have on an urban environment. Dude, that's your mom? Emily is both a close friend and a mother figure to Johnny. Not only will he go to whatever lengths to protect her, but she is often mistaken for his girlfriend with the associated embarrassing moments. That was totally Rad! At least in surfing circles, Johnny is well known and is under reasonably intense media scrutiny. Fans and media tend to show up at the worst possible times for autographs and interviews. Well we talk... sometimes Johnny has a very strained relation with his father, who thinks he is wasting his life. Lately, his fathers decisions have become less and less rational when they pertain to Johnny's future. Is that Blake Kensington? Johnny's sudden departure from the competitive surfing circuit ruffled the feathers of his closest rival, Blake Kensington. Wanting to take the #1 spot by himself, Blake has become obsessed with forcing Johnny to return to the circuit long enough to beat him and legitimately earn his #1 seed. Where does all that come from? Johnny assumes that his water gifts are generated. However, they really come from any of a number of large bodies of water. While this is not an issue, when they do occasionally suck dry a small pond or pool the owner is often times baffled. Right. So here's a revision based on the other thread and shamelessly lifting Shean's ideas into his array. Any thoughts before I migrate it over for attempted approval? 23. Thanks Shaen, that really helps. It will take me a little time to get used to the effects based portion of the game. It seems backwards when building, but I understand the logic.

So I guess I didn't really state what I was looking for in the OP I'm hoping that someone can tell me if I've done the following: (1) Came anywhere close to formatting this right? (2) Stayed in the spirit of characters in the game? (3) Didn't screw up the powers too badly? Thanks all!

Good point. Perhaps I should say sent to Claremont instead. It's not that he's loathing being sent there, just that it would not be his first choice.
