  1. Caresse was glad the Cole was observant of her personal space. "Pleased to me you, Cole Jefferson," the girl said with a polite curtsy, "my name is Caresse Brown." She stood back up quickly, "You can call me Caresse." She thought for a second, and then smirked with a hint of hidden excitement, "Or Lotus. I hear you have to have a code name in these parts." She shrugged, "At least it sounds cool." She looked at her map again and then back to Cole, "The administration office should be obvious. Though I bet the dorms are a maze. "
  2. Another new student was looking for admission today also. Caresse had to park her motorcycle in visitor parking, but she was headed to the same place the other guy was: the front gate. "Albright said my stuff would be in my room," she mumbled while looking at a map, "all I have to do is sign in." She chuckled and spoke up, still talking to herself, "Huh, like a hotel." When she reached the front gate she saw a guy with a duffel bag waiting to get in. Quickening her pace she goes to meet him. When she did meet up with him, she kept her distance, about three feet away. She was close enough to be amiable, but with no weird accidents. "Hello," she said cheerfully, "are you new here too? Or maybe I can ask you for some help finding my way around here. Or both!"
  3. Eve smiled and pulled out her phone when she took Silhouette's number. She snickered when she opened it, the sound it made was like a little robot saying it's name. Maybe she was easily amused but that never got old. She punched in Silhouette's digits and closed the device, leaving it on the table. When the waiter arrived, he was polite and dressed like Star Knight, without the helmet of course. It was very nicely put together. She ordered the Fearmaster Chicken Salad. "It's huge," she said to Silhouette with a wink. The Star Knight expy chuckled and went to place their orders. "Man, this place sure is full of history." She pointed to the wall near the roof. "Like that. A piece of the Freedom League Watchtower." She sighed contently and then perked up, "So, you got any influences? Like anything you see?"
  4. "Hm," Eve thought aloud, "right." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a business card. It was colored jade as her heroic namesake and had her name, codename and phone number in silver writing. "Well, if you ever need some help and no one's around you can call me. Just don't let that phone number out. Very few people have it and it's a direct line. Unless I'm very very busy I'll answer right away any time of the day." She smiled and handed the card to Silhouette, hoping that the gesture would be taken kindly.
  5. Player Name: Godiva Character Name: Lotus Power Level: 7 (105/108PP) Trade-Offs: -1 Attack / +1 Damage, -1 Defense / +1 Toughness Unspent PP: 3 Progress To Bronze Status: 3/30 In Brief: What if Rogue had powers that didn't kill people, just messed with their head? And was in a high school for supers? Alternate Identities: Caresse Brown Identity: Secret Birthplace: Austin, Texas Occupation: High School Student Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Janice Brown (mother) Age: 16 (DoB: July 1995) Apparent Age: (if applicable) Gender: Female Ethnicity: African-American Height: 5'10" Weight: 160 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Description: Caresse is a very tall girl with a lithe figure. There is some muscle behind it, enough to fill her out into an athletic build. Her skin is a darker shade of brown, a light chocolate color. Her hair is long enough that she keeps it in short pony tail most of the time. The costume is the only thing she wears due to the way her powers work. It looks like a solid dark blue seamless bodysuit that covers her entire body up to her neck, barring her hands. Instead, her hands have black fingerless gloves covering and protecting them, while maintaining manual dexterity with her sword. Despite its seamless appearance, she can take it off and on with a quick pull thanks to the morphic molecules that compose the outfit. While her feet are already covered by the costume, she wears a pair of heavy-duty combat boots over them to both add variety to her look, and give extra protection to her feet. Power Descriptions: Her costume protects her from harm due to the science of the morphic molecules. Her sword is a simple unadorned katana with a sheath. She can project emotions on to others and sense everything around her due to the terminus energy infecting her birth. This is amplified emotion. Happiness is straight euphoria. Fear and despair are not pretty sights to look upon. Her projecting emotions is signified by color. Calm is white. Despair is black. Happiness is purple. Hope is Blue. Fear is yellow. Hate is red. She can turn off the colors if she wishes, which she does most of the time. Her sensing everything around her isn't really noticeable at all except to her. History: Janice Brown was born during the Terminus Invasion in 1965. She was infected with Terminus energy in utero, though she came out healthy and devoid of any mutations. Thus, no one noticed Janice was infected. Her parents, having lost most of their life's work, had to move away from Freedom City. They settled in Austin, Texas, secure in the thought that nothing would ever bother them there. Janice eventually returned to Freedom City to finish law school. Afterwards, she eventually found herself an associate with Hartford, Grayson & Cole (the largest firm in Freedom City). She bought a nice place in Port Regal near the water. Though it was a shaky year in 1993. Even though the second Terminus Invasion ended semi-tragically for the world, she found a man who she thought would be her soulmate for the rest of her life. Though it was not meant to be. Peter Thomas was a good, upstanding man in Janice's eyes, but she just didn't happen to see his most glaring flaw. He was a total sponge. It would be a while before she saw his true colors. A year later she told him that they were pregnant. Peter was nervous, but he accepted the responsibility of being a father, that was until he found out an inconvenient truth. After some routine blood work, Janice's tests came back positive for Terminus energy. That was the last straw for Peter. He left her high and dry. They weren't married so he didn't have to do anything. Janice was crushed. She stayed for a bit, enough to get the man to pay child support for the baby he didn't want. She took some vacation time and went to her familial home in Texas for a while to tell her family the badgood news. Eventually they convinced her to stay there until the baby was born, and then to stay home to raise the child. She had to give up her nice job and her nice home for what she thought was the best for her and her baby. A few months later, Caresse was born. Caresse was a very tall child, which lead to much ridicule. On top of that she was not the most social of butterflies and had very few friends. As a young girl, people found it awkward that she was into more "boyish things". She loved physical activity and action movies. Of those, she loved samurai movies the most. They were like the superheroes she saw in the news so much. It was one of her childhood dreams, inasmuch that other children wanted to be princesses or horses, to become a samurai. On her eighth birthday, her mother signed her up for kendo and iaido lessons. She learned about swordsmanship and the touted honor of the samurai from her teachers. Even though she was an awkward bug, she was still amongst people with the same interest and made some friends. Friends she would keep for seemingly a long time. The first time her powers manifested, she was with her friends. It was the last few days of her sophomore year. They were sitting outside, waiting for school to start and then she felt this kind of... nirvana, a feeling of all feelings. Not only that, she began to glow a white aura. And everyone noticed. Everyone who saw it gathered around. She then felt a steady calm, looking to her onlookers. And then a warm happiness washed over her, turning her aura purple. When someone reached out to touch her, they were happy too. But it was magnified ten times as much! The guy was absolutely euphoric. All were awed by Caresse's new powers. Then she got more friends than she could ever dream of. Suddenly everyone was talking about the girl with strange powers. She eventually learned how to turn off the color show, but she could turn it on if she wanted. When Caresse told and showed her mother, Janice was outwardly happy for her daughter, but worrie for her. Janice told her the story of her birth. She left out the part of her father leaving because of it. Caresse never knew her father and never seemed to care about the subject. Her mother was glad she never had to drop that bomb. Later on, she Caresse told one of her friends about her "Terminus birth". The story spread around school like a wildfire. Most people didn't care, but others that knew the severity of the term watched her. Like all good things, they have to come to an end. Caresse was at a party with some friends. Someone asked her to show off her powers. She began to glow again, it was white like the first time, then purple. Someone asked if she could do the "happy trick". She blushed at the thought that she could make someone happy on command. She told them it was not something she gave freely. She reached for her boyfriend's hand and he pulled her closer seemingly euphoric he was and kissed her. Though some wiseass thought it would be funny to sneak up behind her and drop an ice cube down her back. When the joker did, Caresse's aura turned bright yellow. Both the prankster and her boyfriend shrieked in terror, falling to the floor in a fetal state! Caresse was shocked and her aura grew even brighter. Several cameras snapped pictures of the incident causing Caresse to get scared and then her aura turned a horrible black color. She tried to run away, but people tried to stop her. Everone that touched her dropped to the floor in a sobbing mass, instantly. She hopped on her motorcycle and went back home to her mom, making sure not to touch her and telling her the story of what happened. Her mother had been preparing for this. She said it would take a couple of days, but she could get her to a specialist. Unfortunately that meant she had to face the aftermath of what happened. The next day was the day before the last day of school and she had to face what had happened with her peers. Most people avoided her like the plague. There were vicious rumor circulating about what happened at the party. Some said she was a mad villain. Some were scared of her others were angered by her. Hateful words were spat at her. But no one got near her. It was horrible. She just wanted this day to end. When she got home she was in luck, her mother said she could leave that afternoon. She was so happy and sad at the same time. She couldn't embrace her mother for the joy she had in her and it ate inside her. By nightfall Caresse was in Freedom City and the Albright Institute. They ran tests on her and even gave her a spiffy suit. But they couldn't find anyway to control it or turn it off. The only thing Dr. Albright could think of was to send her to Claremont Academy. She was ready for anything, just to keep her emotions and powers in check. Personality & Motivation: Caresse was a quiet girl before the changes in her body. While she is finding herself opening up more, she is reluctant to touch anyone or have anyone touch her. She saw crazy things happen when someone did and she'd rather not relive that moment in her life too much. Other than that, she's a nice girl. Most people are thrown off by her size, but she tries to alieve that if she can. Powers & Tactics: She won't use her Emotion Control offensively unless she absolutely needs to. She'll first try to talk the opposition out of the fight. If that doesn't work she will use her years of sword training to incapacitate, though not harm the opponent. And if it comes down to it, she will protect emotions on to someone if they need stopping. She is a front line fighter none-the-less. It's the only style she knows and does not shy away from that. Complications: Age (Minor): She goes to school and still has to answer to and obey her elders. No "Off" Switch: While she can control what emotion she projects (some of the time) she cannot stop projecting them. Touching her will either subject the toucher to the emotion she's currently feeling or projecting. Secrets: Claremont is a secret school in some regards. Something she has to keep! In this new town, very few people know that Caresse is Lotus. She would like to keep it that way. Skin Contact: In both a blessing and a curse, her Aura works of skin contact. If anyone touches, accidentally or not, her epidermis with their epidermis (or vice versa) the power will manifest. Stress: She is going through a tough time in her life. The whole thing about not being able to touch someone without messing with their mind weighs heavily on her. Terminus Baby: They're not liked by many folks. 6. "An autograph book for heroes?" Eve mused aloud, "Cool." She was not foreign to the concept. She had one herself when she was younger, but it got signed very little. "It's always neat to hear stories about people's hero books." About ten pages into the menu, she found what she wanted: chicken salad. It was comically named after a figure noted for their fear. She chuckled at the Fearmaster Chicken Salad and lightly tapped her finger on it until the waiter would come back. She looked back to Silhouette, "So, you mention you work with other people most of the time. How does that work out for you? Better as a loner or more acclimated to having or giving help?"
  7. "Big hands, big heart," Eve said with a slight smile and a wink as she watched LaMarr work , "or so I have been told." She fished out her own phone and handed him a pin to poke at his screen, "this will help a bit." She quietly let him do his thing. Thoughts ran through her head as quiet moment passed. What could she ask the veteran hero now? There was so much to go over and possibly very little time. That and she was on her sixth caffelatte. "Maybe you can give me some 'on the job training' if you're not busy tonight?" She said seemingly offhanded. "I'm sure there's much more to learn from you 'in media res'."
  8. Eve thought she'd never get tired of LaMarr's voice when she heard him laugh. The old saying, 'he could read the phonebook' rang true. She smirked, "Who knows, man? Thirty something years from now this whole internet thing might turn up a bust." Her faux-Luddite humor was minimally impressive. "Speaking of numbers," she said reaching into her pocket. She pulled out a jade colored card with her hero name, real name and number etched in silver. "It's probably not as professional as yours is or was, then again I'm willing to bet many heroes don't have a card." She smiled and handed it to him. "It's a mockup or prototype, if you will."
  9. Somewhere in the East, 2525 An old man sits alone in a completely dark room. His frail body has seen many things over the ages. And yet they get garbled up in the mishmash of years. Once upon a time, he was called Dr. Sin by his opponents. Now he lives his elderly immortal years in this dark room. If someone finds him and bests his riddle, he will tell them a prophetic tale from the past. Today, a young adventurer name Jade has sought him out. As she opens the door, Dr. Sin hisses and demands she shut out the light immediately. He comments that the door is usually locked during the day. The woman says it was. Dr. Sin smiles, he knows she is here for her tale. First he asks her name, Which she replies is Jade. This sparks a memory in Dr. Sin's mind. A memory of a dragon. A Jade Dragon. He informs her that the price will not be easy or cheap this time.He recalls, from his memory, a place of Freedom. He questions her if she has any knowledge of the land of Freedom. And indeed she does. Dr. Sin then asks her to sit and tell him The value of a hero. Jade is silent, thinking of the question. She finally sits and answers him that the value of a hero is not in their name or recognition or even their known deed, it is in their heart. It is their honor. Their willingness to do good. Dr. Sin smiles and lauds her answer. He tells her that there are too few heroes in this day and age. Most looking like 'cyberpunk rejects'. Jade does not tell him that she has a few implants herself. Dr. Sin does not need her to tell him, that's why he made the comment. Dr. Sin begins his tale. "Long ago, in the ancient days of Freedom, there lived a dragon. The dragon made it's home near the water. All that the dragon surveyed it claimed as it's to protect. The dragon was known for keeping it's word. The regal surrounding area was greatly thankful for the dragon." "Though the dragon was the only one of it's kind and despite the love of the people, it never knew the feeling. That all changed one season when a tiger of pure crimson settled into the area. The dragon was not the only non human there anymore. Though the people greatly feared the tiger and it's sharp claws, they knew the dragon would protect them if need be." "The tiger too wanted to protect the people, but in it's own bloody way. The dragon, though greatful for the help, did not approve of the tiger's methods. Yet the tiger was it's only outlet to talk to. So the dragon had to choose between love and honor. Friendship and duty. With heavy heart the dragon chose it's duty and honor. Forgoing the love and friendship." "The dragon and the tiger now locked in combat for territorial rights, begin to talk about how their relationship would be the end of them. The two fought to a standstill, knowing each other could not take their lives. Yet they knew that the land needed them. And do you know what the moral of this story is?" Jade looks confused. Dr. Sin knew she would be. "I'll give you the cliff notes version. Don't compromise yourself if you can't handle the consequences. Eventually you will know what I am talking about, descendant of Kurosawa."
  10. Keen to learn? Eve thought, What isn't there he can teach me? She looked quizzically, considering her options. She snapped out of it a second later, and sipped her beverage. "Well," she paused for a short time, "I know the basics. Else I would not be where I am." She sighed, "But I am also an unworked piece of clay in some regards." She seemingly got a flash of insight with a raise of her eyebrows, "Like the whole going out thing. I make my way around Port Regal for a few hours during the evening and into the night. I look for things. Yet I feel I'm not doing that right. I guess that's a start." She chuckled and motioned with her hand like a movie marquee, "Superhero Patrolling And You!"
  11. Eve's hand covered her eyes as she smiled, "I guess you're right. We had enough of that in the eighties." Uncovering her face, she chuckled. "Haitian goddess of werewolves, huh," she shook her head while flipping the fourth page of the menu, "That sounds like a story. I've ran into heroes with lots of stories." She thought back to the past month and a half-ish. She grimaced, "The only thing I can say that happened, besides the whole demasking incident, is that a giant monkey showed up in front of my house to challenge it to wrestle. Luckily, Wail showed up and screamed it somewhere into the ocean." She shook her head, "Wail's a good guy. Good teacher too." She lookedto Silhouette, "What about you? Any crazy stuff?"
  12. "Max. Zoom," Eve said wearily, "that's some harsh stuff." She bowed her head for a short moment. She then looked back to Silhouette with a small smile, "And I thank you for your work in that." She sighed and picked up the menu again, looking at it dispassionately, "you know, maybe it's a new hero thing. But I never get over how much stuff there is out there to do. A city full of heroes and yet foul things still happens." She looked to Silhouette, he emotions seemingly held back, "I'm sorry if I seem a bit melodramatic. The whole 'you can only do so much but there will always be something' problem just infuriates me."
  13. Eve raised an eyebrow when Silhouette mentioned that being a hero wasn't her full time job. Also her mask wasn't a helmet. By the time she mentioned the gloves not mattering, Eve covered her own face with the menu out of embarrassment. Great, she thought, I'm a lousy people reader. Some kind of amateur detective I am. When Silhouette stopped talking she peek up from behind the menu, eyes only. "I'm just a misunderstanding machine, aren't I," she said with a small voice. She laid the menu down, trying to smile off her embarrassment. There was a second of awkward silence as she tried to think of something to change the subject. "How long have you been working?" Yes, let's learn something about her before we say anything again.
  14. Eve sipped a few more caffelattes as she listened attentively to LaMarr's history. It was very insightful Full of victory and losses, trials and tribulations. Maybe she learned a bit more than she bargained for. She felt for him a little bit more. She saw the person beneath the voice for the first time. "Thank you, LaMarr," Eve said quietly. There was a bit of introspection, as if she were looking into her own future in the large cup. She cleared her throat and set the cup down. Looking to him, she smiled and spoke up, "Also, the training would be nice, too."
  15. "A hero dedicated to the job twenty-four hours a day, huh," Eve pondered while looking at the extensive menu, "I've always wondered how some heroes do that." She remembered her father barely being there. And when he was it was magic lessons and teachings of code and honor. Though he wasn't a total glacier, he had his moments. And now that he was retired from the suit he was much more accessible. "Another thing I'm wondering," she said looking up from the menu, "This helmet you had on back there. Why? I mean this seems much lighter. You know, for the moving around you do so much. Although the gloves could have stayed. Lots of fingerprints without them" She stopped herself and smiled, "Forgive me, I guess I'm not the one who should be giving costume advice to someone who's probably been in the game longer than me."
  16. Eve agreed with Silhouette and they both met at the front door of Champion's a short while later. It wasn't that busy, but there still was a crowd. It was a Sunday crowd, mostly made of the elderly. They reminisced on the displays of the heroes of their eras, paying tribute to the Liberty League and the Centurion. While the two didn't stick out so much like a sore thumb, the people under thirty noticed the two heroes when they walked in. Eve was happy to oblige small questions, but she was here to eat and talk to someone. The waiter escorted them to their table and they were seated. After giving menus and taking drink orders the waiter left. "Swanky," Eve smiled and chuckled. "I never get to come here as often as I like. What about you? What do you do in your off time? Or would that be too telling?"
  17. Jade Dragon nodded, "Sure, you can consider this whole thing on me. Back in a moment." Jade Dragon quickly tracked back to her merchandise in the bathroom. With a quick yank, the suit came off and folded itself neatly. She dressed in the Freedom Rayguns jersey and shorts she got from the athletics shop she stopped by earlier. The Rayguns were something she had cheered since she was a child, and was fiercely loyal to them. Grabbing her stuff and rushing back out, she met up with Silhouette. "So, ready to go? We can use my car if you wish."
  18. Jade Dragon looked around at the sparse activity picking back up. Good old Freedom City bystanders. A scene of mass destruction wouldn't phase them if even one superhero was around. "Tell you what," she said to Silhouette, "Let me get out of costume really quick and I'll take you where we can sit down and have a conversation and a meal too." She thought for a moment, "unless you're really not into public places at all. We can skip Champions and go sit on a roof top." Jade Dragon really hoped Silhouette wasn't that kind of blackclad hero. She had heard about the Moore era style heroes and the ultraviolence and pouches didn't appeal yo her that much.
  19. "Thanks," Eve chuckled lightly, "though I was thinking of more a hands on training session." She nodded her head to the side and rubbed the back of her neck, "but thank you for your offer. I'll take you up on it." Picking her caffelatte up, it almost reached her lips before something hit her mentally. She looked to LaMarr something sorrowful, "I'm sorry, we've been talking about me this whole time." She folded her hands together and smiled, "I'd like to know more about you." She smirked, "Maybe you can break it down, Aesop-style."
  20. Eve happily nodded, "Oh certainly. Living in the public eye you're bound to find people who will judge you fair or foul." She sat back a bit as if in thought. "But I guess time and experience is a teacher to us all." She smiled at him. "I appreciate your sage advice." She sighed, "LaMarr, I have to ask you," she sat up poised again, "Maybe it would seem awkward after meeting like this. I don't want to seem like a hanger." She was quiet for a moment, collecting how to say it without seeming rash, "Well, I'd like to be trained on the field by someone who knows their stuff." She smiled hopefully, "I know you probably have a busy enough schedule. And I completely understand if you say no."
  21. A shadow named Silhouette. Jade Dragon couldn't help but think of the simpler days of superhero names. She liked Silhouette's indicative name. Silhouette also knew her history, which Jade Dragon nodded to as she spoke. "Yeah," Jade Dragon spoke up after Silhouette was finished, looking at Dr Metropolis in action, "Hero insurance. Hope everything is taken care of there." She he turned her attention to Silhouette, "Nice to meet you, by the way." She said reaching out a hand. "you aren't alone on the night watch. I just so happen to do that myself. But yeah, I learned recently you have to be alert at all times. It was about a week ago I started carrying my costume with me everywhere."
  22. Jade Dragon nodded at the matte black shadow's admonishment, "Thanks. I'll be back in a moment." She went to check on Chloe. She found that she was knocked a bit silly, but conscious. She started to call the cops, but she heard sirens in the distance. Picking up Chloe, she rushed back into the store. Maybe the matte black shadow would be there and they could exchange information. it seemed like a trend: Something goes bad. She and another hero meet to solve the problem. They'd get a little bit of info on each other and talk a bit before parting. Heck, she even had coffee with Wail. It was not a bad set up. When she returned, the matte black shadow was still there and so was the other guy. It was a short quiet time as the heroes watched the would-be criminals. The cops came and did their thing and now all that was left were the green and black heroines. "Hello," Eve said confidently, "I am Jade Dragon. And who might you be?"
  23. Apparently the matte black shadow too orders took well, either that or Miss Chloe here was a mind taker. Jade Dragon wondered though, how she could deal with such a person. Even if the Earth trapped her, she'd still beable to mess with them. The Fire was usually strong in mind takers, enough so not to be worried by her own Fire. The Void would probably swallow her whole. She smirked as she thought, back to square one I guess. Sliding forward, she ran past the mind taker doing an aerial flip before pulling back the bow and yelling, "FÅ«!" before she landed. A shaft of white light shot at the mind taker, blowing her away.
  24. Free: Sustain Fire Move: Acrobatic Bluff Standard: Air Arrow Trip 12 (Extras: Knockback; Feats: Homing 2, Improved Throw, Indirect 2, Knockback 10, Precise) Air Arrow (1d20+8=26) hits without the acrobatic bluff She has =4 for knockback. 22-4=18 She gets knocked back 500,000 feet
  25. Eve frowned, not at LaMarr, at the Crimson Katana comment. She thought about the feud she was taught about. How it started out mildly dangerous in the seventies and then escalated in the eighties and nineties. How she and that woman were fighting on name and face recognition alone. She knew very little about the Crimson Katana of the now other than she was the blue oni to her red oni. The protector to her destroyer. Her thoughts quickly changed when LaMarr started talking about other people. "Yeah," Eve shrugged, "I'm not mad about that though." She poked at her new caffelatte with a straw, making little patterns, "Some people think you're different because you have money. Some people think you're different because you're a superhero." She looked up to LaMarr with a smile, "But in the end you're still the same person, just with different options."
