  1. 7:24 AM Sunday March 16 Eve was still sleeping when Etain got out of the shower, she ran a brush Crow had provided with a warming charm that dried her rather long hair as she ran it through a couple of times. It wasn't practical for consumer use, since a little tampering could turn a warming charm into a fire charm, but it did make the process much easier especially since she was rather iffy about handling hairdryers and how dangerously close they get to burning her ears every time someone else tries does so for her. She booted up her laptop while she braided her hair and pulled up the emails, some junk, an invite from Victoria to some new game beta she was trying out, updates for steam, and huh, an email. She looked at the title for a little bit before opening it. After one or two readthroughs she set down and started a reply, Hello Curtis Wright, I am not actually surprised, programming as I have come to understand is a complex system of syllables and numbers put in a certain order to create a desired effect and is rather similiar to runecraft as you seem to have found out since runecraft is the proper term for what your doing, and artificier would be what you would be called. Anyway, yes, I do like to know about other magic users in the city, it is excellant for cataloging and learning more about different magics. I know someone who uses runecraft as well, but the way you are describing sounds much more complex in structure. Which a lot of runecraft is, the person I know is less about the theory, more about field testing different combinations, I do not suggest this method unless your home is immune to frequent fires, minature lightning storms, gail force winds, and suddenly being hoisted into other dimensions. I do not say such things in jest, having a very durable dimensionally anchored house is highly recommended for field testing rooms to find the combinations. Those books on verbal casting are interesting, though you not being able to figure them out may just be you do not have much talent for those particular type of magics, which is not surprising as few practioners are actually adept in more then one or two forms of magic (though I have met some who are, one of them is a public practioner by the name of Siobhan Drake, she also teaches college level theology classes). You seem somewhat new to this then, is there anything in particular you would like to ask me? -Etain Maher

    Changeling

Changeling 20Q Blog Questions The recording started out and Etain looked at the list in front of her, it was a composite of most common or appropriate questions they didn't nessicarily intercede, but she'd answer them never the less. The button blinked and then she began, "Hello, and welcome to Everyday Magic with Etain Maher, this is a question and answer thing. Over the weeks, I've collected a couple of questions about the blog, I have made a list of about twenty of the most frequent ones, so I will answer." She looked down at the paper and began, "(1) First question, you know a lot about magic, can you do magic? Actually, no, I cannot, I am an illusionist, both personally and semi professionally. (2) Now, next question, what do you think about superheroes that use magic? I think it is very noble of them to do so, but it is not a neccissity, not all magic is practical for something like hero work, in fact a lot is rather more aimed to more mundane needs like cleaning spells yes they exist, I would not try those unless you have a lot of fine control, because accidents happen. I believe there is an animation about such things involving a mouse and some mops." She flicked down the list, "(3) One blogger asked if you could disbelieve magical creatures, no, whether you believe in them or not, they are still real. (4) Now I have also been asked if magic is similiar to some of the things portrayed in video games, the answer is, no, not usually. Magic in general is much too choatic for what is relatively simple in comparison in games. (5) There has been a couple of questions about my qualifications for giving advice, technically I do not have any, but that is only because it is not a field that can be taught at in a community college, or measured in degrees. My knowledge of magic is something I gained through both thorough research and first person observation of magic users and their magics as well as the less common magics I observe and discuss. (6) I have gotten questions about various magical creatures, which I will cover later but here are the basics, dragons are real, werewolves are real, pheonixes are real, centuars are real. (7) Here are some frequent questions I will answer together, usually along the lines can you teach me magic, is there a school that teaches magic, can anybody learn magic, every one of those answers is no. Not everyone can learn magic, and not everyone should. Magic is dangerous, people promising you magic and powers, are more then likely exceptionally dangerous, you should not seek it out, if it has already found you, and you have powers, you should contact the Freedom League. (8) This goes into the next question, is there anything genetically different or special about magic users? That is impossible to determine at this point, it is true for some magic, false for others, it depends on the magic, in some instances magic will choose someone who has no previous history with it, or several other different reasons, as I said, it depends. (9) Now, there have some questions about what I think of magic versus science, I will do a podcast about this, mostly it depends, but I will say most magic does not interfer with technology, poltergeists can but it is usually not intentional. I personally am quite fond of technology, it is very convinient. (10) Lets see, this is a question I have gotten frequently, can you bring the dead back to life, I did not address this in my undead podcast, but no, not really, and you should not try." She skimmed down, "There have been some questions about my age, meetings, societies and the like, those shall remain things, but I will answer other more personal questions, (10) What is your favorite magical creature? Humans (11) Mac or PC? Alienware. (12) I was asked who my favorite pony was and if I thought friendship was magic, I had to think about it for a second, while I am fond of dartmoor ponies, bosnian's are my favorite because of their agreeable nature, as for friendship, if you have to rely on magic for friendship then something is very wrong. (13) Who is your favorite magical superhero? Nick Cimitiere, (14) Who is your favorite Doctor? The eighth one. (15) If you were a bender, which type would you be? Well personal preference for style, I am quite fond of the one for airbending because it is more defensive and good for general evasion. (16) What is your favorite movie/book? Enchanted and I assume you mean a fiction book, in that case, A Wrinkle In Time (17) What is your favorite color? Gold (18) Cats or dogs? Gargoyles (19) What is your favorite type of food? Chinese (20) When is your birthday? I do not know. And I believe that is all the questions I will answer for now. I thank you for listening, this has been Etain Maher, next session I will get more in deph about the creatures I have mentioned before. Goodbye until then."
  3. Note to self, buy search, I'll spend a hero point to get +4 on my search roll, http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3975550/]15, ouch,, spend another hero point to reroll. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3975551/]18, +10 that's 28 Anyway, I take ten on the other two cause I can, making the values both 25.

    Rain Check (IC)

She rolled her eyes, but heard the tone of someone who would not take no for an answer, "One moment," Pushing herself out of the chair she grabbed the coat with one arm and kept herself steady with the other, slinging it over her shoulder like a poncho and grabbing her purse. She paused for a second and looked up the stairs. She pointed absently, "What do you want to do with the three stooges? Toss them out the window and hope for some sun?" It took another thought, "They might not be the only ones in here, maybe some of them are sleeping or something."
  7. It's not required, but it's useful. Besides, grappling is an excellant way for a character to disable someone, if they're built for it.
  8. Look at the the timing of the last edit, the sheet before didn't, he added it after my post.
  9. You're character doesn't have like any non-damaging ways to take someone down.
  10. GM The instructor went through the basics, she eventually got to the climbing. She called up groups of four in no real order to try and climb up to the first green line on the wall. Really it was just whoever was sitting by each other at the time. About three groups completed the task with various speeds before Jasmine, Mali and Kristin were up with one other. The instructor helped each one clip up before starting the timer and letting the go. For those who had experience or in Mali's case a heck of a lot of upper body strength it didn't take long. Jasmine brought up the rear of the group with some difficulty, so by the time she was halfway the others were at or close to the top. It was around this time that things went wrong. About ten feet up from the green line the wall exploded as something flew right through it and two other walls before stopping. The explosion set about screaming and a lot of dust that fell from the drywall that had been on the other side. Jasmine outright fell from her perch but was slowed quickly via the automatically counter weighted cord attached to her harness.
  11. "Perhaps we can do something like that Rene," She sheathed her sword, and looked at the walls of the building. The thoughts forming in her head, where had she heard of something like this before. Something like a spirit host a building, did she not live in a building just like that. It wasn't unheard of, in fact it wasn't uncommon, this was simply, "A haunting, a strange circumstance, but that seems the most apt description for this circumstance. A stranger spirit this is, from creatures usually not thought to have souls but I believe we should treat this as a normal haunting of a possibly malicious spirit." She made the door reappear, "I will go out and keep anybody from trying to re enter the establishment. Also, Nick is there anything you need to perform an excercism?"
  12. BURNED AGAIN BY SUPERCAPE Catalyst Two pp, +1 rank of Equipment, with that I'm buying Masterwork Tools Climbing, Infirmary Feature for her car, and throwing knives (Blast 1 PF: Subtle) Also, buying two ranks of Climb, and adding two ranks to Stealth. Anyway, coded out. [floatr][/floatr]Player Name: Aoiroo Character Name: Catalyst Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: +5 Attack / -5 Damage, +2 Defense / -2 Toughness Unspent PP: 0 Progress To Platinum Status: 30/120 (Gold Status earned with Silhouette) In Brief: Chemical weapon user with a paintball gun and good aim. Alternate Identity: Jasmine Benoit Identity: Secret Birthplace: St. John, New Brunswick, Canada Occupation: Lab Assistant Affiliations: Franklin & Wesler Co. Family: Laurette Benoit (Mother), Jackson Benoit (Father), Hazel Benoit (Sister [Younger]) Age: 27 (DoB: November 2nd 1983) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Haitian / French Canadian Height: 5'8" Weight: 145 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Description: Jasmine is not really skinny or fat, she has a pretty healthy build. She's a little bit above average height taking more from her father's side with a bit of it being from being pretty long waisted. She has dark complexion and dark hair which is kept at only a few inches in lengh if only because longer hair is inconvienent for chemical testing. On her upper arms, shoulders and neck she has several areas of scarring from an accident early in her career as a lab assistant. Her face is a long oval with a rounded nose, similiar oval shaped brown eyes set behind a pair of frameless glasses. Her clothing is generally fuctional and form fitting, mostly for the benefit of her work, though she is fond of long skirts and tanks whenever it's warm enough as well as brighter colors. Her costume is a full body pale yellow hazmat suit with blue gloves and boots that she managed to get fitted for easier movement. She removed the visor glass since it made it hard to line up with the scope, and replaced it with a pair of goggles. Her utility belt has several pouches which contains both her ammo, and her counterammo (paintballs specifically made to counter and reverse the effects of some of her more nasty chemicals). Power Descriptions: She has no powers to speak up, just a paintball gun and some clever chemically altered paintballs the formula for each personally developed to be non-lethal, and exceptionally potent for such a small amount. History: Laurette Quiner was born and raised in St. John, New Brunswick, and when she was twenty, married her high school sweetheart Edwin Samania. It wasn't long after that she was with child, and Jasmine was born. Edwin worked construction, so he kept a stable income while Laurette got a teaching degree and began teaching French classes at the local high schools in the morning, and taking care of her daughter after she got home from preschool/daycare in the afternoon. It was a good life, lots of fun, lots of laughs, until one day, her husband didn't come home. He was killed on site by a piece of fallen equipment after a machinery malfuction. The grieving was immense for the two person household, their was a problem in the fact that her income could not completely support her way of life, even with the insurance money which would only last so long. So, Laurette moved out of NewBrunswick and down to Courtland, New York to live with her cousins while she went back to college and eventually got a doctorate in education and became a professor. It was in this process that four years after her husbands death she fell in love with a linguistics major named Jackson Benoit. Two years later, they married, and not soon after Jasmine's half sister, Hazel was born. Jasmine grew up in a loving household, when her mother was at college she was looked after by her cousins, and when she remarried she was glad to see her happy and that her new father was very kind, and was even willing to pay the additional fees to adopt her so she could share his name. Though, because he was a caucasion French Americans, there were often strange looks when she or her sister called him dad in public. Her step father also eventually got a doctorate, and they both worked as professors at various universities. For the next ten years or so, her parents worked at three different colleges each, and they moved from New York, to Illinois, than finally Freedom, where both her parents got teaching positions at Freedom University in the language department. By than Jasmine had already finished high school, and was looking at schools in the area and was able to get into HIT earning a masters in Chemistry. When she was twenty four, she got an on the spot offer to Franklin and Wesler Co. an industrial equipment and chemical treatment company that had only recently opened a branch in Freedom. Several weeks into the process a lot of which involved move and handling chemicals that had been sent from other branches, Jasmine was handling a mislabeled and mishandled box of chemicals which had been previously sealed, but caused a violent reaction that gave her scarring on her neck and upper arms burning right through her clothes. The person responsible was immediately fired, and she was paid reporations for her injury almost immediately. She personally didn't bare any bad will and continued working as per normal at Franklin and Wesler. It was in early April that Jasmine got news over the phone that her younger sister Hazel (age 16), had gotten shot. It very nearly made her drop the phone right than and there, and drive to the hospital. Instead, she switched to her cell and drove instead. Though her parents and her sister lived in a nice neighborhood in North Freedom, Hazel had recently started dating a boy who she met at a friends party. The boy himself was nice and polite when she met him and seemed to be very protective of her. It happened when he was taking her to dinner, but needed to drop off of his house real quick to grab his wallet. When the boy was inside, apparently a local gang had mistaken his car for someone elses and opened fire. Hazel was in the passenger seat, got hit in the shoulder and chest before dropping to the floor and getting various scratches from the broken glass. The boy she was seeing was quick to call an ambulence and they were timely enough to save her sister who had suffered a punctured lunge and had to have surgery. When she arrived to the hospital Hazel was already in surgery and her mother was crying. Not very far away was the boy her sister was dating. She asked him if he was hungry, and they went down to the lounge where she had a pleasant conversation with him about why someone shoot up his car. He denied it at first, saying it was a mistake, but eventually the truth came out. He had been a member of the Lowercase, a gang inspired by the Southside Cs who worked out of East Lincoln, and was for drug pocession during a police raid. He sold information on them to get out of it and left the gang officially, but this left some bad blood between them so he started living over in West End with some cousins to dodge them. He didn't know they found him until that night. Jasmine left the boy to his quivering after that part, it was mostly him saying he didn't know it would happen, that he didn't want to get her sister involved, that it wasn't his fault. Jasmine didn't believe that part, she knew he was at fault, but he was already being punished. The real people who needed to be punished was the Lowercase. It took some time, finding the information she needed, it was a project she didn't share with anyone, but she got it, names, addresses, popular hang outs, and most of all evidence. All that was left was the delivery, which was far more literal than when she first planned it. A month later, a woman in a flower delivery truck showed up at the leaders doorstep during a sanctioned 'meeting' with a box labeled for as a late valentines gift. Signing for it, he brought it inside. Fifteen minutes later, police cars started coming down the street, twenty gang members started running out of the front door of the house. Twenty minutes after that, ambulences arrived to take the still coughing gang members to the hospital, twenty after that the gas finally clears, and in looking for its sorce, the police find the stores of drugs being distributed by the gangs. The entire thing made the local news, though there was no mention of the flower delivery. Probably because she had walked in through the back and put the gas bomb in the kitchen when the flowers she ordered arrived. The entire thing was a very rewarding sort of revenge. The gas she produced left them bed ridden for weeks, while at the same time the police had a case built around everything they had found in the gang leaders home from unregistered firearms, to drugs, to several pictures of there transaction(those she very proudly planted in a kitchen drawer after setting the gas bomb). Though after all of it was said and done, and her sister made her recovery, she couldn't help but think she could try doing this sort of thing more often, which after some preperations became entirely possible, and a new idenity, Catalyst was born. Personality & Motivation: Jasmine is a generally quiet and pleasant person. She's not very ambitius, and is pretty fond of her life as it is as she has friends and family. She loves classical music, cooking, and firearms. The last one throws people off, but when she was younger her mom's cousins was a cop who both showed and taught her how to shoot. In middle and high school her favorite past time was playing paintball, and for fun, every time she choose the location she would set up a few boomboxes and blast Ride of Valkeryies whenever they'd play. While she herself does not collect guns, she is kept up to date and in contact with the founder of her interest who does. She really loves her family, especially her little sister who's incident got her involved in the first place. She really started doing it for them, but there was a certain thrill in what she was doing that got her taking some time to properly invest into it. Powers & Tactics: Jasmine generally keeps her distance with most fighting, this doesn't mean that she doesn't make herself known. If she has the time to do some research, she usually chooses and stakes out her spots for known places of illecite activities, and much like in high school she will set speakers so she can blast classical music from her playlist while she picks off the baddies one by one. She almost always avoids close range fighting as well as any areas that might have some casualties in her area based chemical attacks. Even so, all of the chemicals have been thoroughly tested by and sometimes on herself to ensure that there is no long term damage inflicted if a civilian or fellow hero is in fact caught in the crossfire. Complications: Can't See Without Them: Jasmine is very far-sighted and has to wear glasses(as a chemist contacts are dangerous). Family: Her parents work as professors at Freedom University, and her sister is in High School, she tries to make time for them as best she can. Nine-To-Five: Jasmine maintains a regular work schedule as a lab assistant, this sometimes takes priority. Secret: Her idenity is secret, as she has taken some steps like tinting the glass on the face mask to insure. Sleep Deprivation: Jasmine has a hard time just saying no, and does have the tendency to spread herself too thin. Snitch: The reporting of the accident and the law settlement about it has not made her popular at work, they can't fire her without an exceptionally good reason (part of the settlement has a clause about her continued employment), but that doesn't mean they have to like her or let her advance in the company. 13. "Who knows, there are other ways for him to know of you, the school is not terribly big after all. I no longer attend myself, I simply like to use the facilities and occasionally spar with John here, which, honestly I would have if you had bothered to answer my texts." Etain shook her left hand a little bit and her phone slipped out of her sleeve. It was a touch screen phone Eve had bought her which she flicked through casually, "Three I believe I sent this time, ohh, Eve sent me a text, one moment," She took a moment to send a message, "She wants to meet for dinner later, you want to come John, we are going for sushi."
  14. Can I take ten arcane lore for what Etain knows about Spirits inhabiting buildings as a whole that'd be 20 with her bonus.
  15. She took the paintball pistol and shot the escaping legs giving a new coat onto the more freed limbs. Leaning forward she looked him in the eyes, "You don't seem to understand, by your logic, we should kill you, right now in cold blood for your crimes. We should stop you permenantly because that's the only way." She held the gun level with his forehead, "But it's not," She pulled back her gun and holstered it, "Don't try to struggle, or I'll just put another layer on it. You're not going anywhere, so if you'd like to say anything useful, now would be the time, otherwise I suggest you hold your tongue cause anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
  16. Catalyst adds another layer to the snare, honestly I don't think I need to roll for this.

"Hate hospitals," She was what she managed as she rummages for a second and pulled out the first aid kit. She didn't bother with the wipes or iodine, she just shrugged off her weater and dress strap on that side and tied the white wrapping around her shoulder as tight as she could manage with on hand pushing down on the wound on hand pulling the bandage on one end and the other end in her teeth. Carrie then decisively plopped down into the chair her purse had been on, grabbed a water bottle and took a long drink. It was a moment before she gathered her thoughts, "This, this is why I don't blame my friend for asking me to come, too many nasties on these streets she wouldn't be able to deal." She leaned back and put a hand on her her head closing her eyes while, "@#*$ing vampires."
  18. "Yes, it is more difficult, but it is better with a shorter blade, like butterfly swords. As for who taught me, that would be my adoptive father, it was a very well sink or swim sort of teaching method, not one easily replicated here," Mostly cause there lacked the magics used commonly to regrow limbs. She turned to the newcomer after Kat did so and smiled in recognition as the other girl confirmed it correct, "Hello Mali," Etain placed one of the training swords under her arm and extended her now free hand to the girl, "I have heard much about you, mostly from Kristin, she has given me a very apt description of you, all very flattering rest assured. Though I did not know about the chakrams, very interesting choice of weapons, not something I have ever used myself."

The bolt sizzled the vampires flesh as it struck him true and he fell to the floor writhing before ultimately blacking out. Carrie herself walked over at the vampire for a second, and after he stopped moving took a moment to given him a kick in the chest. In the light of the hallway, she saw better at her shoulder, and her yellow dress which was now stained and tinted with the blood from the bite that dripped down and onto her dress. "Ohh dangit, I really liked this dress and wow, I am dizzy," She clutched the doorframe with one hand and clamped the other over her still bleeding wound, "We, we should go downstairs, I have some gauze in my purse." She managed to keep herself upright and steady, coordination being second nature to her, but she kept a hand on the wall to keep the world from spinning too much, "But, yeah," She said it a little more weakly this time, "Squatters, very common, that type, not as, but it, it one moment," She gripped the banister for a second, "I may need a shoulder, if you don't mind getting your shirt a little bloody."

Carrie backed away instinctively from the punch as she looked at Amir, "What the hell?" She would of had more time but she caught sight of the younger vampire just in time for him to hit her with a glancing blow. She spun on her heel rolling with the blow and using her momentum to give the vampire a full kick in the head. Unlike the older one he didn't take it standing and fell down like a ton a bricks under it's impact. She let out a breath seething as she looked at the younger one, she wanted very much so to finish the job with a quick decapitation, but one she'd have a lot of explaining to do if she did so without first locating an axe, and two, still the good guy, even if she was just redeading them, not something she needed to be indulging in. Instead she took a step back to get a bit of distance from Amir who had something wrong, though she couldn't quite tell what, she definitely didn't need to be on the end of his punches. The older vampire himself tried to moved towards the door but fell slightly, his concentration slipping for that moment freeing Amir from the spell.
  22. Carrie's turn, so she's gonna punch the TV, 21, that hit, okay, so toughness roll for him, 8, yeah he's out. now non-mind controlled Asad's turn.

Carrie has to roll Sense It's the TV's turn, so he sneaks around, so 22, and 25 Carrie sees him, so no advantage, attacks Carrie, 27, well that hits, it was almost a crit but not quite, DC 21 for Carrie, 27 so she's fine. Top of the round, Vampire has to roll concentration to maintain his control, which, wait, what, the build doesn't have it, that doesn't make a lick of sense. Huh, well it doesn't make sense for the build, so I'm gonna say he has like say, six ranks, that gives him +10, he has to roll base ten (you can't take ten on a concentration roll,, Carrie has to roll sense motive to know Asad's being controlled, DC 20 12, well she didn't make that,. 12, he fails too, so yeah, Asad's no longer under control. But yeah, before we go into that, lets post him doing stuff while under the control.
  24. Kat wasn't bad, she just wasn't nearly good enough to compete with Etain. She was rather agile, and good, but she had trouble using the sword as an extension of her arm rather then just a substitution for her fist, putting far too much force in her stabbing motions which left her open for counter attack. It was this rather blunt forceful motion that gave Etain an easy opening as she redirected the force with her own wooden sword and with a flick of her wrist sent the training sword into the air before taking a step back and catching it without looking at it, "You should not swing so hard, it does not take that much force to use the sword, and your arm will tire quickly loosening your grip like so." She took a step and switched her stance holding the swords in a different position as she put them forward, "Maybe you should try a shorter training sword, you do like to get rather close after all and they are exceptional for dual weilding."
