"And now, time for Action News' own Amy Feng with the latest scoop on the super-powered community.  Amy?"

"Thank you, Jack." Amy Feng said as her image filled the television screen.  Behind her, a restaurant with large pane glass windows could be seen.  Yellow police tape marked over an area just in front of the main entranceway.  A group of gawkers stood  around splitting their attention between the various police officers milling about within the restaurant and the nearby camera crews.

"Here at Madden's Restaurant in the Southside area, an altercation between a small group of would be thieves and a new arrival to the city occurred.  I have with me an eye-witness to the events that unfolded."  

The camera view widen to include a young boy no older than thirteen standing next to Amy.  The wore a gray knit cap that had flaps covering his ears.  Behind him, amongst the gawkers, another boy was gesturing wildly at the camera in the hopes of getting on TV.

"Young man, in your own words, could you explain what transpired here?" Amy asked as she held the microphone lower to catch every word the boy said.

"Yeah, I can do that.  It was totally sick!  You see, I was in Madden's with my friend Toby," the boy took a moment to point out Toby in the crowd of gawkers.  "We were eating when I noticed this bald dude sitting a few tables away from us.  I told Toby that the guy looked familiar and all so I took out my phone and checked HeroHouse.com but he was on there.  That's when these six guys come barging into the place carrying machine guns and telling everybody to, like, get their money and stuff out so's they could take it.  Toby was like really scared and all.  I thought he was going to wet himself."

Amy smiled down at the boy and prompted him, "And then what happened?"

"Oh, that bald guy I thought I recognized stood up and started talking Christmas and stuff like he was some kind of hero or something.  But the guy in charge wasn't having any of it.  He just turned his gun on the bald dude and shot him! I mean, I've never seen nobody get shot before.  It ain't like Call of Duty. Some woman screamed right after the shot and the boss guy told one of his goons to take the bald dude's wallet and stuff.  right before he reached him, the bald dude reached out!  Toby thought he was some kind of zombie or some such, but I knew better.  Only people who could survive getting shot like that is a super!"

Amy tilted her head to the side, a small glint of interest in her eyes. "A super? Are you sure?  Did he identify himself?"

The boy shook his head.  "Yeah, I'm sure.  He stood up and there was, like, no blood or marks or nuthing on him.  Just a hole in his shirt where the bullet hit.  That's when the guy nearest him called that he was a super and five of the guys shot at the bald dude.  Man, they couldn't hit nuthing.  I think only one or two actually hit him, but that was all it took to piss him off.  The bald dude then said, 'Time to knock some sense inta ya -- Hammer Style'.  Just like that. And then I remembered where I knew him.  See, I've always liked watching wrestling and all and one of the wrestler would always say that.  He went by the name Hammer in TNA.  I couldn't believe it!  I thought Hammer was dead or something since he hadn't been around for the past year or so."

Amy blinked in surprise.  "A wrestler?"

"Yeah.  I know cause that's how he took out the goons.  He caught the nearest guy around the waist and flipped him onto his head!  I mean it was the coolest suplex I've ever seen.  The guy was knocked out cold!  Hammer then turned to the guy by the bathroom.  I guess that one was manhandling his woman cause Hammer went ahead and did Hammer Down on him.  That's his finishing move and it sure did finish him!  So two guys were out already.  The last four sure didn't want any part of the beating come for them so they ran.  The boss and the lookout by the door made it out quick enough but the other two weren't so lucky  One of them got HKO, Hammer's knock out move.  That's why the one table got busted up.  Hammer slammed him into it!  The last guy wet his pants after seeing that.  Hammer came over, grabbed his arm and put him in a Figure-four armlock.  All the while, Hammer was talking to him all calm and stuff.  It didn't take long before the goon was begging for the cops to arrest him."

"And when the police arrived?  Where was Hammer?" Amy asked taking a moment to look around for the hero.

"Aw, he was gone by then.  I got him to give me a autograph before he left though."  The boy held up a napkin with a short message written on it:

A true fan!

Hammer

Pete lowered the napkin and said, "Hammer even told me to keep an eye out for him since he was going to wrestling in the UWL!"

Amy raised the and smiled down at Pete. "Thank you.  You've heard him, Jack, it looks like Freedom's got a new hero in town and unlike most, this one has a public day job."

Just as the gun went off, Jenny was being led back into the main area.  She screamed as she saw Kwame drop motionless to the ground.  The thug who had been forcing her forward , pushed Jenny into a booth.  "Shut your trap or you'll end up like your boyfriend."

The leader gestured at the man behind the counter.  "Go empty out his pockets," he said.  "It's not like he'll need his money any longer!"

The goon nodded and moved quickly over to Kwame.  Just when he was a few steps away, Kwame reached out at the man's leg only to grasp air.  "Damn!  I thought you were closer!" Kwame said as he stood up.

The thugs all stared, dumbfounded to see a supposedly dead man come back to life.  Their surprise only lasted a moment as the nearest man shouted, "He's a super!" before five of the men fired at Kwame.  Only one bullet managed to find Kwame and it was unable to cause any damage.

Kwame looked down at the two holes in his shirt and frowned.  "I liked this shirt!  Looks like you boys have just volunteered to be my first attempt at being a hero."  Kwame cracked his neck and smiled with an evil glint in his eyes.  "Time to knock some sense inta ya -- Hammer style!"

Kwame watched as the men began to spread throughout the restaurant. One stayed by the entrance, a second went towards the restrooms, a third began moving behind the counter.  Two more began walking from table to table, gathering wallets and jewelry from the diners.  The leader remained near the center of the room, overseeing the men's movements.  

Kwame took a moment to size up the leader. What's wrong with these clowns?  Don't they know they're in Freedom City?  Only a fool would try to rob a place in the middle of a city full of supers. 

"Five minutes!" the leader called out.

Kwame shook his head in disbelief before standing up.  "Hey, you!  Sit down!" called the leader as he noted Kwame.   He pointed his machine gun at Kwame.

"Look, fellas," Kwame said as he slowly raised his arms in a non threatening way.  "Why don't you guys stop all this nonsense and head hold.  It's almost Christmas.  Continue like this and you'll get on Santa's naughty list."

"Trying to be hero is going to get you killed!  Now sit down!" returned the thug.

"Or what?  You going to shot me?" Kwame asked.

"Yeah, I am," the thug replied as he pulled back the trigger and unleashed a bullet.  The bullet easily found its mark and Kwame gave a short cry of pain before falling to the ground.

11:15 am

Kwame saw the waiter moving towards their table and he waved him down.  "Hey, can I get another plate of flapjacks?  Oh, and another cup of coffee."  Kwame took the remaining morsel of food  from his plate and stuffed it into his face.  Jenny, sitting across from him giggled at the sight.

"You sure do eat a lot," she said as she took a sip of her coffee.  She looked down at the five empty plates stacked in front of Kwame and shook her head.  "Where do you put it all?  There doesn't seem to be a bit of fat on you!"

Kwame looked down and the empty plates and smiled sheepishly.  "It takes a lot of fuel to keep me in top shape.  I've always had a good appetite but it seems to have gone into overdrive once my abilities manifested."  Kwame lifted his right arm and flexed, showing the largeness of his bicep.  "I'm hoping I'll be able to advance to the top tier in the League."

Jenny reached out and lightly stroked the muscle.  "I'm sure you will.  Have you decided what name you're going to use in the ring, Kwame?"

Kwame noted a pair of young boys a few tables away talking heatedly amongst themselves.  He could just make out enough of the conversation to realize that they were debating his identity.  He smiled at the boys which surprised them.   "Well, I was thinking about that on the flight here from Chicago. I figure why change.  Hammer did me well enough in the normal wrestling world, it will do me well here.  Besides, keeping the name means I have access to a ready made fan base."  

Jenny put her cup down and looked deeply into Kwame's eyes.  "True.  I guess Hammer would be a good name for someone in the Ultimate Wrestling League."

The Ultimate Wrestling League or UWL as it was more commonly known, was still relatively new to Freedom City.  Kwame had only learned of its existence a few years ago.  He was intrigued by the notion that people of power would continue the sport of wrestling.  So many people looked down on the sport believing that it was all staged.  For the most part, there was a script for the matches and some of the drama outside of the ring was also planned down tot he wire, but no plan survived engagement.  Kwame was sure that the matches were just as staged with the UWL, but there was something about seeing super-powered opponents facing each other as to be thrilling.  Soon, he would get his chance to show off just what he could do.

The waiter arrived with a tall order of pancakes for Kwame.  He deftly placed the platter down while refilling Kwame's cup.  He picked up the empty platters and smiled.  "If you need anything else, just give me a holler."

Kwame returned the smile.  "I'll be sure to do that, Stan."

Jenny stood up.  "I'll be back.  I've got to use the restroom."  Kwame watched as Jenny walked to the restrooms in the back of the restaurant.  Her path took her passed the entrance so Kwame got a good look at the six men, armed with machine pistols, rushing into the restaurant.

The first man in raised his weapon and fired off a volley of bullets into the air.  "This is a stick up!  Don't nobody move!"

Kwame slowly put his cup of coffee down.  Looks like I'll be making my debut sooner than I thought.

Kwame opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling for a short moment as he mentally went over the various things he had to do today.  He had already overslept and he knew he would have to shorten his usual morning workout just to make sure that he could finish his other tasks.  A small smile crossed his lips and he heard Jenny's soft breathing beside him. 

Kwame quietly slipped from the bed and rubbed his bald head, a habit he had ever since his powers had appear and the hair had fallen out.  Though he didn't mind the look, he had usually worn his hair cut very low, it still took him a while to get over the change.  He stood up and looked at himself in the mirror.  The changes to his body were very pronounced since he wore only a pair of boxing briefs.  Even if he were fully clothed, it would have done little to hide his chiseled physique.  Kwame ran his hand over his abs and smiled.  He always had kept his body in good condition; it was a prerequisite of being a professional wrestler.  Only those wrestlers that had kept their body in great shape managed to continue wrestling passed their prime.  At thirty-five, Kwame was well passed that prime.  Now, after the change, muscles that were slowly losing the definition of young, had regained their youthful vigor.  Though his muscles were in exquisite shape, he still could see the various imperfections that showed his age in his milk chocolate colored skin.  I see that scar from when I was six hadn't gone away.  Nor has that scar right above my knee.  I thought all metas got all those marks removed when they got their powers.  Maybe it's the method.  If I had tried one of those established power brokers, I would have perfect skin.

Kwame turned, got down on the floor, and began his daily morning exercise.  Since the change, he knew the routine needed to be adjusted.  His newfound strength ensured that the sit-ups and push-ups would do little in the way of strengthen him, but Kwame was a person of habit.  I'll have to ask Mr. Norman about a gym where I can work out.  Since he's the head honcho of the Ultimate Wrestling League, I'm sure he'll be able to point me in the right direction.   That meeting's at three in the afternoon so I've got time to do some sightseeing of the city.

Kwame moved over to the bed and gently shook Jenny away.  "Hey, think you're up for some sightseeing today?  I've got some time before my meeting."  Jenny blinked as she stretched lazily in the bed.  She smiled up at Kwame and nodded.  "Good.  We can grab some breakfast as well.  But first," he said as he easily lifted Jenny with one arm, "come join me in the shower.  No need to waste water."  Kwame smile widen mischievously as he proceeded to carry her to the shower.

"Ladies and gentlemen," began the slightly garbled voice over the speakers, "we'll be beginning our descent to Jordan International Airport in just a few minutes.  Please stow your trays and bring your seat to the upright position."

Kwame yawned and stretched before proceeding to follow the instructions. First, he put the tray before him away.  Then he reached over and pulled the empty chair to his left up.  The late night flight from O'Hare airport in Chicago to Jordan International in Freedom city was practically empty.  Kwame took a moment to look around at the other passengers. 

Looks like there's only six others here in business class with me.  A little more than I would have expected on such a late flight.  I wonder why they're going to Freedom.  Kwame gave a wide smile at the woman sitting in the same aisle when their eyes met.  The gesture was quickly ignored as she turned away to fiddle with her belongings.  That one must be a lawyer.  With a briefcase like that, she must be a pretty good one. Still, there's no reason why she should be so rude.  It was just a smile.

"Damn it!" The exclamation drew Kwame's attention.  He turned around to get a better look at the man four rows behind him.  From the awkward position, Kwame figured the guy was some big honcho of a mid-sized company.  The gray business suit and his pushy attitude towards the flight attendants were big  indicators that his guess was correct.  One of the flight attendants hurried passed Kwame to deal with the man.  She was one of the older attendants on the flight.  Kwame smiled inwardly as he remembered the private conversation they had earlier during the flight.  I'm going to have to get her number.  Maybe she'll be willing to show me around the city.  Perhaps even stay a night or two.  If we had more room, I'm sure I could convince Jenny to try some more interesting positions.

"I said I bring me another bottle of wine!  I don't care that we're about to land.  I've paid good money for this flight!"  Kwame frowned as the man began berating Jenny.  She spoke in a softer voice in an attempt to calm the man but it didn't seem to be working.  The man began swinging his arm about causing the attendant to flinch in fear.  

Kwame grabbed a magazine from the chair pocket, unbuckled his belt, and proceeded to move over towards them.  Jenny caught his approach in the corner of her eye and shook her head slightly as if to get him to return to his seat.  Kwame ignored the gesture and stopped next to her.  He then dropped the magazine into the man's lap and smiled.  "Excuse me, but I thought I'd bring over some reading material for you."

The man looked up at Kwame's muscular frame and frowned.  "What the hell are you talking about?" he asked as he lifted up the magazine to look at the front cover.  His eyes widened slightly as he recognized Kwame's face on the cover.  "Yeah, that's me.  They call me Hammer when I'm in the ring.  That was before I became a meta.  If you keep up with this noise, you'll get a chance to learn first hand why I decided to keep the name."  Kwame reached down for the magazine and flexed.  The color quickly drained from the man's face as he watched the muscle seem to grow larger than any normal human's would. 

"Now, if you'd be so kind as to apologize to Jenny here, I'll let you prepare for our landing.  We wouldn't want you getting hurt before we land now, would we?"  The man shook his head quickly.  "I'm sorry," he said in a subdued voice as he hastily stowed his tray and straighten his chair.  Jenny simply nodded and gave Kwame a thankful look.

Kwame returned the nod, took back his magazine, and returned to his chair.  I think I'm going to like it here.

Thanks for waiting.  I've completed the initial work on the character.  I think my vision of his use of powers is clearer now.  

If a ref can take a look it would be great.

If it is a drain save you'd lower the save by one for every point they fail the save by.  It would apply only to the save (So lower reflex save but they would retain dex bonus to initiative, skills, trip etc in your example.)  The source of the save bonus doesn't matter.  The Ability drain would lower the characters ability (dex in the example) by one per point they fail by which will reduce the ability bonus to saves, skills, etc based on the new ability modifier after the reduction.  

 

So drain(save) would affect both targets the same way, and Drain(ability) would also affect both targets the same way but drain(save) and drain(ability) would not each have the same effect as the other.  

 

 

So overall, Drain (ability) has greater reach as it might affect various traits but also might have a lessor effect due to the cost for ability scores.

Okay, I've hit a slight brick wall here.  I'm working on a character at the moment and want to give him the Drain power.  I just can't decide if I should focus on Ability stat or save.

Here is the Power build that I'm thinking of:

Drain (Any one Save[2pp/rank]) 6 (Various submission holds;Feat: Slow Fade 1;Flaw: Requires Grapple) [7pp]

or

Drain (Any one Ability[2pp.rank]) 6 (Various submission holds;Feat: Slow Fade 1;Flaw: Requires Grapple) [7pp]

I know Drain lowers the PP of the item by the difference on the save roll up to a max of the power's rank.  With that in mind, how does the power affect saves?  Would it lower the PPs used to buy up the save?

For example:

Hero A has added 6pp to his Reflex save. Reflex: +7 (+1 dex, +6).

Hero B has only a high dex due to Enhanced Dexterity. Reflex: +7 (+7 dex)

Each hero fail their Fortitude save against the Drain Power by 6.  Would the drain effect both heroes the same way, reducing both to only a +1 bonus?

Since I had time to think more about the character, I've decided to make some changes.  I think I want to flesh out his wrestling a little more with his powers.  Could the moderators hold of on looking over the character?  Once I finish fleshing things out, I'll let you know.

Corrections made!  Also, I was unsure of his Heavy Load total.  At 70 strength, it would be 200 tons, but with 69 strength, it's not very clear.  I simply took off 10 ton as a work around.  

EDIT: Figured out the heavy load for 69 strength (179.2 tons). Added to the information to the sheet.

 Kwame is pure muscle. Unlike most powerhouse heroes, Hammer still looks relatively normal.  If anything, he seems like a very dedicated bodybuilder, which he is.

Power Descriptions:
Hammer’s powers are manifested by pure muscles.  He uses his superior strength to augment his wrestling fighting style.  Having just recently gained his powers, Hammer has yet to learn how to use his powers in the traditional "powerhouse" fighting style.  Instead, he uses his strength to power his devastating wrestling moves to great effect. It won't be long before life in Freedom city teaches him how to more effectively apply his great strength to helping the citizens of the city.

History:

Kwame Harris always wanted to become a wrestler.  He grew up watching various wrestlers both in person and on TV.  To fulfill his dream, he began working out to get his body into peak shape.  He slowly began to gain a following in the wrestling world, but then Freedom City announced the newly formed Ultimate Wrestling League.  Kwame saw the league as the next evolution to his dream.  There was only the simple problem that he lacked any superpowers to allow him to compete in the league.

Kwame didn't let that stop him.  He began looking for ways to gain powers.  Through his studies, he learned that some meta-humans gained their powers from manipulation of their basic genetic makeup.  Kwame learned there were a number of drugs in the city that could enhance him.  After a few months of fruitless pursuit, Kwame came across a shady dealer offering a drug guaranteed to give him enhanced powers.  Kwame paid the large sum of money for the drug and returned home.  Since he was unsure of the effects of the drug, Kwame made sure to take a leave of absence from his wrestling duties. 

Kwame took the drug and it had an immediate effect upon him.  Unfortunately, it was not the intended effect as his hair fell out and he experienced constant pain.  For months Kwame found himself restricted to his apartment as his body began to adapt itself.  Now that his body has adapted to the changes, Kwame has moved to Freedom city to join the Ultimate Wrestling League.
 

Personality & Motivation:

Kwame sees Freedom City as the biggest stage to perform upon.  With the large number of heroes and villains, the city has become a larger version of the Wrestling federation he once was a member of.  Since his powers placed him in a league above the other wrestlers, he has turned his sights to becoming the greatest hero in the city.  Now he can strive to become a star in the world of Heroes.

Hammer is loud and friendly.  He usually has a smile upon his face.  Outwardly, his whole persona is way over the top but when he’s alone, a lot of his bravado disappears.  Kwame is always acting in front of people.  The act along with his powers tends to lull his adversaries into underestimating just how devious he could be when it counted.

Powers & Tactics:

Hammer is first and foremost, a showman.  He likes to build up tension when he finds himself in a fight going so far as to fake the results of a blow.  He starts by weakening his opponents with standard punches and kicks.  From time to time, he places his foe into a submission hold.  These holds vary depending on the area he wishes to weaken; leg locks are used to weaken a foe's ability to avoid attacks (vs Reflex), body locks to weaken a foe's ability to resist damage by applying pressure to nerve points (vs Toughness), arm locks and shoulder stretches are used to soften up the foe's ability to resist physical pain (vs Fortitude), and headlocks are used to rattle a foe's mental stability by inflicting pain directly on the head (vs Will).  When he has his opponents on the ropes, he often uses that time to strut around getting any witnesses hyped up before delivering his finishing move, Hammer Down, a modified version of the Superman Punch.  Hammer also likes to taunt his opponents throughout fights, treating his encounters as a typical wrestling match.

Hammer uses his Eye rake as a means to further weaken his opponent as well as a way to escape grapples of other fighters.

Hammer has taken his skills at wrestling to the streets.   His punches and kicks are all signature wrestling moves.  A suplex here, a drop kick there, are all ways that Hammer damages his opponents.  It's when he goes for his special moves that things get interesting.

Eye Rake: Hammer drags his fingers across an opponent's eyes, blinding them. [Dazzle visual]

Hammer Down: Hammer's finishing move.  After weakening his opponent, he poses slightly before performing a leaping attack.  As he comes down, he he hits with his hands clenched together.  His momentum and excessive strength increases the changes of a critical hit. [Damage (PF:Improved Critical 2)]

HKO: aka Hammer Knockout is a modified version of RKO. Hammer leaps towards the opponent and grabs the opponent's head in a ¾ facelock while parallel to the ground, and then slams the opponent's face to the ground in a cutter. [Stun]

Submission Move: Hammer likes to toy with his opponents.  He quickly grapples whomever he is fighting and  using his superior strength, weaken their ability to resist his attacks. [Drain any one save]

Complications:　

Got to keep the fans happy: Hammer is always putting on a show. He likes to get bystanders involved and would easily allow for an opponent to regain their senses instead of quickly finishing them off.

The World’s a stage: Hammer tends to make sure that any possible witnesses know that he is around.  This has lend to situations where deliberately announce his presence instead of using stealth.

Secret: As a role-model for young kids, Hammer has to keep the true origin of his powers a secret.

I’m no chicken: Hammer can’t back away from a challenge.
