Now, my personal idea of UWL (which doesn't mean anything just yet, as we're still working this out), would be

    Some Traditional

    Some Mainstream

    Some Comedy

    A little Cult

    No Risque

    Key Focus on Modern

Small amount of Realism and Hyper Realism

    Small amount of Hardcore

    Some Lucha

    No Pure

    Key Focus on Daredevil

Which to me would lead to a product with lots of flashy matches and high-octane action, but also engaging storylines behind them. The average match would be one of flashy moves (as you'd expect from superpowers), but occasionally there would be matches appealing to different crowds (like the various hardcore matches, or more MMA-like matches between people with similar powersets).

I'd have to agree for the most part with your thoughts here.  The UWL matches should be filled with a variety of styles to match the very different types of players we have here on the site.

One thing to keep in mind though, whenever discussing the UWL, we must keep in mind that The Circuit-Maximus is also present.  This is the underground fight club that is held to entertain the rich and famous.  For the Circuit, I would expect things to be turned up to eleven!  A more focused look at matches that are filled with brutality.  So for the Circuit, my opinion of the type of matches would be as followed:

    Some Modern

    Some Hardcore

Small amount of Realism and Hyper-Realism [focusing on the more painful aspects]

    Some Daredevil

The Circuit-Maximus would also be a way for characters of the Bedlam setting to have a gritty adventure in Freedom city.  Of course, there is no "drama" or "script" for the Circuit as the fights should seem like a true fight club.

It looks like you guys have cast more than just big, strong types, and included more agile wrestlers.

One key question: Do you have gender-segregated matches (meaning men only wrestle men, women only wrestle women), or do they mix?

I really don't see why there was be gender segregated matches.  We are talking about super powered beings where each person is different.  I would like to see mixed matches as an option.  Everyone would love to see Superman and Wonder Woman in a brawl to see who is the best.

I envision the UWL to being like the Street Fighter games of the early nineties, it doesn'T matter if you're male or female, as long as you're able to fight.

  3. The large elevator was actually pretty impressive.  Kwame figured that at least 30 to forty normal people people could fit inside with room to spare.  The large rings in the cardio room could easily fit within the elevator as well.  Contemplating the size of the elevator got Kwame looking at the other recruits again.

Jesse, "The Spur", who could turn his body into iron, was a powerhouse like himself.  His power however came from his transformed condition.  As a wrestler, Jesse's style was more of the direct punishment variety which fit his new powers.  Kwame recalled how they would often team up during their days together in TNA.  Kwame's mastery of submission holds coupled with Jesse's straight damaging style worked well.  Hopefully the two would get the chance to work together again here.  Kwame was sad when Jesse left TNA due to his powers appearing but glad that his friend had some experience with powers when he gained his own.  Jesse had been the first person Kwame had turned to for help.  Together, they managed to work through the basics of his powers as well as help him adjust to his new life.

Standing next to Jesse was Sharon "Vixen" Nelson.  Kwame remember working with her during his early career with the PCW out of Chicago.  He didn't know that she was a metahuman and had no ideas what her abilities were now, but back in the day, she was one of the more agile fighters he had the pleasure of working with.  They even had a few dates before she suddenly left the circuit.  Kwame didn't recall hearing anything about her since he last saw her.  Vixen's toned body hinted that she had continued wrestling after leaving the PCW.

Kwame blinked as he recognized the tall man standing in the group.  Standing at an impressive 7 feet tall was none other than The Big Cactus, one of the tallest wrestlers coming out of the WWE!  The Big Cactus was one of the greats that Kwame had fashioned his own style upon.  He was a submissive type that used his long limbs to force his opponents to literally beg to be released.  Kwame was surprised to see such a famous wrestler was now with the UWL and wondered exactly what kind of powers the star now had.

The others were still a mystery to him.  Veronica Sellers,  the shortest member of the group.  She resembled a child in a candy store for th first time.  Her head swiveled from side to side as she tried to take in everything all at once.  I remember when I was like that.  I thought everything was magical back then.  That was before I started getting thrown around like a rag doll.

At least Veronica had the body type of a wrestler.  The lanky man standing next to her wasn't as lucky.   He had given the name of Thomas Barr which Kwame figured was a stage name like Jesse.  Thomas looked more suited to the life of a runway model than as a wrestler.  He also showed signs of having little knowledge of the wrestling world.

The twins, Mike and Paul, were a strange duo.  They had introduced themselves as having experience and fighting under the tag team name, The MPs.  Kwame hadn't heard of the duo as they worked mostly in the indie groups located in Mexico.  though they were both on the heavy side, neither gave the appearance of being powerhouse style fighters.  Instead, Mike's sudden interest in the cardio room and the speedster treadmill implied he was a speedster while Paul's interests remained a mystery.

Hannah Taylor, a beautiful Scottish red head, stood the tallest in the group.  At 7 feet 3 inches, she was even taller than The Big Cactus.  However, her frame was covered in very powerful muscles that rivaled Jesse's when he was in iron form.  Her unusual size was obviously due to her powers and Kwame suspected that she would take a name that included mention of the fact.

The remaining two recruits in the group were Canadian brothers.  The older brother, Zayn Lee, had experience wrestling in Europe.  He had the frame of an agile wrestler.  His younger brother, Aiden Lee, was harder to learn anything about.  Kwame found it hard to focus on the young wrestler.  After a few moments, he simply decided to give up.  I'll have to watch out for that one.  If he learns how to wrestle, he might cause a me a lot of problems in the ring.

Kwame took a moment to let his eyes readjust tot eh group in a whole just as the doors opened to reveal the newest level.  He nodded in appreciation of the work space and knew he would need to use it quite a lot once he learned more about his new coworkers.

  4. NEW RECRUITS

Ten other new wrestlers joined the UWL with Hammer.  Here is the listing of the eleven recruits

Hammer (PC) - Powerhouse. Style of fighting is mixture of submission holds and power wrestling.

Jesse "The Spur" Cassidy -  a Canadian with the ability to turn into iron (His real name actually was Lawrie Stott, but that didn’t matter). powerhouse type

Sharon "Vixen" Nelson - agile fighter type(?), some experience

The Big Cactus - 7 ft, submission type fighter, Very experienced fighter.  Famous outside of the UWL

Veronica Sellers - shortest member of the recruits [5'5"?], unexperienced

Thomas Barr - lanky, runway model style, unexperienced

The MPs - twin brothers, Mike and Paul.  Heavy set body types, experienced, possible gestalt powers?

    -Mike most likely a speedster

    -Paul most likely ?

    Hannah Taylor - beautiful Scottish red head; Very tall, 7'3" and muscular both of which due to her powers. [growth, enhanced str?] unexperienced;

    The Lee brothers -

-Zayn older experience wrestling in Europe.  Agile style

-Aiden younger unexperience, difficult to focus on [concealment type powers?]

  5. I just wanted to open a thread where I can put some ideas for the Ultimate Wrestling guide page.  I know Olopi is helping me set some things up, but here are some ideas that I've come up with about the organization.  If anyone else have ideas for the UWL, please fill free to add to the thread.  I'll link the contents to this first post for quick access.

    Content

New Recruits - Group of new wrestlers to join the organization.

Possible categories of matches - Break down of the 12 possible categories of the UWL

Jobbers - List of fighters of inferior skill or power that loses most of their bouts

Notable Figures - List of important people within the organization

The Palace of Practice - training facility

  6. Kwame's head was spinning form the show of power from the heroes.  The sudden disappearance and reappearance of Warp plus Grimalkin's continued display of magic was causing Kwame a small fit of jealousy.

"I'm not that freak out by magic. More like I'm surprised it's real.  My life, up till this point, has been fairly grounded.  I can understand things of science but magic is something that's going to take some time to get my head around."  Kwame downed the last of the eggnog and crushed the cup in his hand.  "To me, it seems that if you have magic on your side, you'll be able to keep the heavy hitters from actually hitting you.  Well, someone like me at least.  No idea how you could stop someone like Warp here."

Kwame moved over to a nearby trash can and emptied his hand.  "Since you ladies have decided to show off a bit, I can't be undone.  It's my job to be in the limelight and what better way to introduce the great people of Freedom to my presence than to show off a little."

He looked at the two castles for a moment.  Having made his decision, he bent over and gathered some snow in his hands.  As he straightened up, his powerful legs launched him into the air towards the newly formed 'monster' castle.  He landed on the roof, near one of the gargoyles.  He smiled down at the small group of heroes and held his arms out above his head.

"I am Hammer and claim this castle and it's occupants as mine.  Together, we shall conquer all!  Minions!  Prepare for battle!" he yelled loudly to be heard by most of the people in the area.  He turned to the children that had joined him in the castle and said to them, "You see that group of heroes down there?  Yeah, the ones next to Elsa.  They're the enemy.  We must use snowballs to slay them.  If we hit them three times, they're out.  If we get them all, you'll all get tickets to my debut match with the Ultimate Wrestling League!  Are you with me?"  The small group of children screamed out in agreement and started scooping up snow.

Kwame turned back towards the 'enemy' and launched the snowball he had already held in his hands right at Gargoyle!  The snowball sailed through the air and though it moved quickly towards its target, Kwame had but no strength behind it.  The idea was to have fun, not cause any harm.    Kwame smiled down at the heroes, wondering how they would react.

they come from, and what causes them? Do other people notice and remark on

    History

    Spoiler

    Where do you come from?
    Chicago

Have you made any major moves, or do you live in your hometown?
Moved from Chicago to Freedom City

Do you feel loyal to your country of citizenship? Do you consider yourself
patriotic? How do you feel about the government of your country?

Yes, I feel loyal to America, but I don't consider myself a patriot.  These days, the government is going to hell.

How do you feel about the place you come from?
    Chicago will always be home.

Where is your home town? What was/is it like?
Chicago.  It was nice enough place when I was growing up.  Now, the area has decayed.

Growing up, were most of the people you knew similar to you, or were you
somehow a minority? How did that affect you?

Yes, though they weren't into body building like me.  When my muscles started showing, most people stopped picking on me.

Is there something you've always been really good at or really bad at? How
    has that affected your life?

I've always been good at wrestling so much that I made it my life's work.

Were there any traumatic experiences in your early years (death of a family
member, abandonment, orphaned at an early age)?

My mom passed away when I was in high school.  I still regret not having see the man I've become.

Briefly describe a defining moment in your childhood and how it influenced
    your life.

I caught an old video of Hulk Hogan wrestling against Andre the Giant at Wrestle Mania.  Seeing how the crowds reacted to the fight, I knew I wanted to become a wrestler.

What stupid things did you do when you were younger?

I tried to do a DDT on my little brother.  He was in the hospital for a week afterwards.
Where did you go to school? How much school did you have, and did you enjoy
    it?

I went to Whitney Young High school in Chicago.  After graduating, I spent four years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
For the most part it was fun.  I guess that's where I managed to pick up my love of wrestling.

Do you have any mementos of your childhood? What are they, and why did you
keep them? If you have none, why not?

No mementos from childhood.  Just never thought they were all that important. From my early twenties, however, I've kept
a few of the wrestling awards I won in the PCW.

When did you decide to become a hero? Why? Did anyone influence you one way
    or another in the decision?

This is a hard question to answer.  I guess I decided to become a hero once my powers were activated.  My brother kind of helped me head in that direction, but I think he was just yanking my chain.  Man, did I surprise him!

Is the reason you give people for becoming a hero different than your real
    reason? If so, why?

Yes, because no one wants a hero to be human like them.

Do you have any deep, dark secrets in the past that may come back to haunt
    you?

Yeah.  I try to avoid explaining exactly how I got my abilities.

Do you represent yourself as being different from who you really are? Why?
Not at all.  The world's a stage and I aim to conquer it.

If you do have these secrets, what do you fear would happen if the truth
became known? How far would you go to protect those secrets?

If my secret were to come out, I would lose my fan base and that is the death of every wrestler in this business.  If they can't trust me, then I have no place doing the job.  I guess the limit is
intimidation but that's about as far as I would go.

Do you have any sort of criminal record? If so, is it public knowledge?
    No criminal record.

    Family

    Spoiler

What are your biological parents' names?

    Vicki and Fredrick
Were you raised by them? If not, please explain and describe who raised you.
    Yes.

What was their standing in the community? What did/do they do for a living?
Mom was a house wife,  Dad worked as technician.

    Where are your parents now?
    Both have passed away.

Did your family stay in one area or move around a lot?
Stayed in the city though they did live in a few different neighborhoods.

How did you get along with their parents? How do you get along with them now
    (if applicable).

I got along well with them.  They encouraged me to follow my dreams.

How do your parents view you now, or how would they?
I think they would be proud of what I have become.

Do you have any siblings? If so how many and what are their names? Describe
    your relationship with them.

Yes, an older sister, Camile, and a younger brother, Jerome.  For the most part we're good,
though they never really understood why I decided to go into wrestling.

What was your birth order in the family?
    I was the middle child.

Where are your siblings now (if applicable)? Do they have families of their
    own? What do they do?

Both are in Chicago. Jerome has a wife and two boys.  He's a teacher at the University of Chicago.
Camile is divorced, no kids.  Right now, she's working for an advertising agency.

Do you stay in touch with them or have you become estranged?
Yeah, I make sure to call them on their birthdays.  When we have time, we meet up during the holidays.

Do you love or hate one member of the family in particular?
Not really.  They both have their good and bad parts.  Tends to change over the years as to loving or hating more.

Is any member of the family special to you in any way (perhaps, as a
    confidant, mentor, or arch-rival)?

    No.

Are there any black (or white) sheep in the family (including you)? If so,
    please explain.

    No.

Do you have a notorious or celebrated ancestor? If so, please explain,
including how it has affected your life.

    No.

Do you have a partner and children currently? If so, please describe them.
I hope not.  Seriously though, I'm still single.

If you do not have a partner or children, do you want them someday? How firm
are you in your opinion on this, and what might change your mind?

I guess I would like to have a few kids to call my own.   It really depends on how this new Hero business
    turns out.

What type of person would be your ideal mate?
Someone who understands that physical fitness is very important to me.  They would have to love and understand wrestling at least a little.  I can't be with someone who's worried about my safety.

    Relationships

    Spoiler

Do you have any close friends? If so, please describe them, and how you came
    to be close to them.

I have a few good friends. There's Jesse "The Spur" Cassidy who I've had the pleasure of wrestling against on numerous occasions.  He's the closes friend I have right now.
Do you have a best friend? If so, how did they become your best friend? How
close are you to your best friend?

    No.
If you were to go missing, who would worry about you?
I guess my brother and sister would miss me.

Have you lost any loves? If so, how did it happen, and what did you do?
Once.  She didn't understand that wrestling was taking a big part of my life.
She couldn't handle that so we parted ways.  It was the hardest time in my life.

Do you have any bitter enemies? If so, please describe them and their
    history with you.

    Not that I know of.

If you have enemies, how do you think they might attempt to work against you
    in the future?

If I had any enemies, I guess that would try to discredit me.  Again, losing the trust of
my fan base is like getting shot multiple times.  It really hurts!

What is the worst thing someone has done to you?

    Someone stole my car.
Where do your loyalties lie? In what order?

My family first, then my friends.  After that, everything is pretty much the same.
Who or what do you trust the most? Why?

I trust my family the most because they will always be real with me.  They will never let my fame or abilities cloud their ability to call me out for doing something wrong.
Who or what do you despise? Why?

I despise quitters.  Something about them just turns my stomach.  I think it's because I've always tried to do my best and believe that if you try, you should be rewarded.
What qualities do you admire most in other people? Are these qualities you
    possess?

I admire people who never give up.  It is a trait that I share.
What qualities do you hate most in other people? Do you have any of those
    qualities?

I hate seeing people who don't want to try.  No, I'm not like that.
Do you have a secret identity? If so, who knows it? Do you hide it from
people who are close to you? Why?

    No.

Do you work well on teams and in groups? Are you a leader or a follower?
Depends.  For the most part, I've always been a solo act in the ring.  Occasionally, when it's needed I can step up into the leader role, but I perfer being a follower.  More fun that way.

Are you on a super team? If so, how do you get along with your comrades? Do
you trust them, or do you have secrets from them?

    No.

Are you a member of any church, fraternal organization, club, committee,
political party, or other group? How much time do you spend on that?

If the Ultimate Wrestling League counts, then I spend a lot of my time with them.  It's my job.

    Personality & Beliefs

    Spoiler

    Who are your heroes?

    My parents.
Did you ever become disillusioned with former heroes or idols? If so, why
    and what were the circumstances?

    No.
Do you like being a hero? If so, what is the most rewarding part? If not,
what makes you keep doing it?

Not sure yet.  I've just started out in the business.
Is there anything that would make you give up hero work, or even switch
    sides?

well, I guess I would give up being a wrestler or hero if I could make in in Hollywood.  Acting is a passion of mine.
What are your short term goals (what would you like to be doing within a
    year)?

To get everyone in Freedom to know about the UWL as well as my name.
What are your long term goals (what would you like to be doing twenty years
    from now)?

Haven't really thought that far ahead.  I guess to leave a great impression on the youths of today.
What is your greatest fear? Why? What do you do when something triggers this
    fear?

My greatest fear is giving up because if I give up, it means my life was meaningless.  I think of the strength my mom had when she was sick.  She managed to continue working even though she was in great pain.  I could do no less.
Is there anything you would give your life for?

I would gladly give my life for my family.  I would do anything for them.
How do you feel about money and material wealth? Do you desire it or disdain
it? Are you miserly with what you have, or do you like to share? Is it a
mark of success, or a means to an end?

Money isn't important to me at all.  As long as I have enough to live comfortably, I'm good.  Excess funds I usually give to fans or to charity.  Another way to bust my popularity.
How do you generally treat others?

With respect and courtesy.  It's how I like to be treated.
Are you a trusting person? Has your trust ever been abused?

I trust everyone until they've proven themselves not to be.  In the past it's caused some grief, but that's all a part of growing.
Are you introverted (shy and withdrawn) or extroverted (outgoing)? Do you
    have a lot of self-confidence?

I am very outgoing.  I drip self-confidence even in my sleep.

How do you act around attractive, available members of your preferred sex?
As charming as is needed to get them to come to my room.

What are your most annoying habits?
Got to stick to the routine.  Workout in the morning and evenings.  It takes work to look this good.

Do you feel contempt for any general category of people? Who are they, and
    why?

People who fail to even try to help themselves disgust me.  Why should I work to help someone unwilling to help themselves?

What is your favorite food? Do you prefer any particular type of food? Do
you take the time to enjoy your food, or do you eat as fast as you can?

Pizza.  Chicago stuffed. And I take my time to eat.

What is your favorite drink (alcoholic or otherwise)?

    Really love flavored tea.

What is your favorite treat (dessert)?

    Cheese cake
Are there any specific foodstuffs that you find disgusting or refuse to eat?

I can't stand fermented beans.  Don'T even ask me to try them.
What is your favorite color? Are there any colors you dislike?

Purple is my favorite.  I really don't like white.
What sort of music do you like? Is there any that you hate?

I enjoy R&B.  I like all types of music, trance however, I can't stand.
If you have a favorite scent, what is it?

    Freshly baked cookies
Do you have a favorite animal?

    Yes, wolves.  They're really cool.
What is your most treasured possession? Why?

    I don't really have one.
Do you enjoy "roughing it", or do you prefer your creature comforts?

I like my comforts, but as long as I have my music and books, I'm good.
Is there a job or a task you would absolutely refuse to do?

I would never burn books.  Couldn't do it even if the world was at stake.
Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, how do your beliefs
affect your life? How important is it to you?

Yes, I do.  I make sure to treat others the way I wish to be treated; with respect and courtesy.
Was your faith influenced or molded by anyone special?

No.  I just came to to that way of thinking.
If you belong to a religious organization, how often do you attend? Do you
have a specific place of worship, or friends within the organization? How
much do you agree with the beliefs of your organization?

I don't really practice these days.  Occasionally, I'll head to a church for service.
Could you kill? Have you killed?
I don't know.  I haven't killed anyone and there hasn't been a situation where I needed to make that choice.   For now, I'm just grateful that the situation hasn't come up.

What circumstances led to you forming that conviction, or taking that
    action?

It was just the way I was raised.  My parents weren't violent, so I guess deep down, neither am I.

Are there circumstances under which you believe it is permissible to kill?
    What are they?

I'm not really sure.  I try not to dwell on such a dark topic.  Life is too short to worry about such
    dreary things.

How would you react to watching someone kill another person? Would your
reaction be different if the killer was a friend or an enemy of yours?

Again, I'm not sure.  I would like to think I would be horrified, but I can imagine a time when it might be the only way.
How would you react if something important was stolen from you?

I would be upset and hurt.
How would you react to public humiliation?

I would try to find a way to turn things around.  You know, make lemonade from lemons.
How would you react if a good friend or relative were purposely or
accidentally killed? Has it happened to you?

I would be angry and hut.  Luckily, I haven't had that experience.
What do you consider to be the worst crime someone could commit and why?

The worst crime would be to harm a child.  Children are important for our future.  They do no t have the power to protect themselves.  Hurting a child is just wrong.
If your life were to end in 24 hours, what five things would you do in those
    remaining hours?

I would eat a Chicago Stuffed Pizza, tell someone that I love them, give my things away, visit the planetarium, and make a goodbye video for all of my friends and family.

    Career & Training

    Spoiler

Do you have any special training in your hero skills? If so, where and how
    did you get it?

Well, I guess my time in the wrestling world has given me most of my training.  I'm hoping to get someone to show me how to be a superhero though.
Who taught you the most about your heroing abilities? What was your
    relationship with that person?

I don't have someone like that yet.  I hope to find someone willing to do it for me.
Do you have any particularly unusual skills? How did you acquire them?

My great acting ability? Constant practice in the wrestling ring.  YOu ahve to sell the hits to the crowd.
Do you do something besides hero work for a living? Have you ever done
anything else, or do you plan to?

Yeah.  I'm a professional wrestler.  Was one before I even got my powers.  I'll be one
    until the day I die.

What is your preferred combat style?
Wrestling of course.  Get up close and personal.

Have you ever received any awards or honours?

I won the PCW championship belt in my third year with them.  Does that count?
What skill areas would you like most to improve in? Is there anything you
can't do that you wish desperately you could?

I would like to improve my tactics.  Right now, I'm a one trick pony.  Close quarters combat won't stop every crime.
How do you act around people who are more skilled than you in areas you'd
like to improve? Are you jealous, or do you try and learn?

I'm a little jealous, but I try to watch and learn from them.  If I think they might actually teach me, I'll ask for their help.

    Spoiler

What is a normal day for you? How do you feel when something interrupts this

What do you do for fun?

I try to catch a play or musical when I can.
Do you have a costume? What does it look like?

Yes, it's a black short sleeve t-shirt, with red shoulders, black calf high pants with a red star on the side, black high laced boots, and black fingerless gloves connected to forearm covers that have a red intricate design on them.
How do you normally dress when not in costume?

Jeans and shirts.  Occasionally, I wear suits when the need arises.
What do you wear to bed most nights?

    Boxer briefs.

    No, I haven't.
If your features were to be destroyed beyond recognition, is there any other
    way of identifying your body?

    The scar above my knee.
What would you like to be remembered for after your death?

    Having entertained everyone.
Do you believe you pose a threat to the public? Why or why not?

No.  I'm a simple wrestler.  Nothing special or dangerous about that.
What do you perceive as your greatest strength?

    My acting ability.
What do you perceive as your greatest weakness?

My lack of training.  I need to always improve my skills.
As a player, if you could, what advice would you give your character? Speak
as if he/she were sitting right here in front of you. Use proper tone so
    they might heed your advice...

"Kwame, sometimes being a showoff isn't the right way to handle a situation.  Sometimes it's okay to admit that you can't do something.  Never think that your actions aren't enough."

  8. Kwame's mouth dropped open in awe as he watched Grimalkin first changed her appearance before creating an ice castle.  Did she just make an ice castle?  Powers, I always knew was around, but magic as well?  How am I going ot be even effective as a hero if there's abilities like that out there?  I really need to rethink this whole hero business.

Slowly, he closed his mouth and stared a little longer at Grimalkin.  "Wa...was that magic?  Hell, are you even real?"  He twisted his head around towards the others to see if they were a shocked to see magic being used but when he noticed their indifference, he choked and straightened his jacket, Picard style.

"Um, could you make a second one?  You can't have a snowball battle without two forts.  Well, the kids could just play king of the castle, but I always enjoyed the teamwork needed for snowball fights."

  9. Kwame looked around the room.  Cardio wasn't something he was really into since he preferred to gain muscle mass.  Still, cardio had its place in a workout.  Especially for the life of a wrestler, cardio was needed to ensure that everyone had the stamina to last a match.

So they do have stuff for the different types of powers.  that's good to know.  I'll have to be careful with the ones I use.   "Hey, Jesse, it looks like you'll finally get a chance to show me just how fast you really are.  We'll just put you on the speedster treadmill and and figure out just how far you can get thrown!  Actually, that would be a pretty good gimmick in the ring.  I can see it now."  Kwame spread his arms as if pointing out the headlines of a billboard.  "Ring Toss Match!  First person thrown from the treadmill loses."

He jabbed an elbow into Jesse's side as he finished.  A few of the recruits laughed at the joke and even Jesse gave a half-hearted smirk in response.  Kwame and Jesse, had their share of rivalry but it was inflated by the publicity aspect of the matches.  In reality, the two were fairly good friends.

"Me, getting tossed?  I believe you're referring about yourself.  Hey it's called Hammer toss for a reason!" Jesse jabbed back which got a few louder laughs than Kwame's line.  Kwame laughed with the others.  "Good one, Jesse.  Good one."

  10. Kwame smiled at Sakurako's enthusiasm.  I like her! A good head on her shoulder and easy to talk to.  I hope the other heroes I run into can be as interesting.

"My powers are pretty simple, actually.  I'm strong.  No flying but I can leap a good distance."  He slaps his legs to draw Sakurako's attention.  "The muscles on these babies can get me some good distance.  but other than that, that's about it.  Oh, I can take a punch or two; even a few rounds from a machine gun can't faze me.  Found that out just recently.  Can you believe some punks tried to rob a restaurant in Freedom city and only brought machine pistols?  I tell you, an idiot is born everyday!  Ruined a perfectly good shirt in the process."

  11. Agent? Lawyer? Inevitable lawsuits?  Is the heroic business one I really want to get into? Kwame looked a little worried.  "Um, thanks for the advice.  I'll make sure to look into all of that."

Kwame looked down at his clothes and smiled broadly.  He spread his arms to give everyone a better look.  "Actually, I'm a member of the Ultimate Wrestling League.  They gave me the suit so I'm sure it can take licking but the design was actually from my nephew.  I've been wearing his designs in the ring since 2010.  He's perhaps my biggest fan.  He hasn't seen this one yet. I haven't had the chance to get any real exposure with it on.  that'll change of course come next month.  I'll be having my debut match with UWL and expect that's when I'll get to show people what I can do as a superhero as well."

  12. Kwame searched his memory about Alejandro but didn't recall much about the wrestler.  He must have been pretty good for people to know who he is.  I'll have to look him up once I get a chance.  Perhaps I can get Endeavor to help me out.  She's pretty good with searching the net.  Endeavor, or Sakurako Hina, was one of the young heroes he met the other day at the Christmas block party.  She was pretty handy with computers and gadgets.  She had agreed to help Kwame set up his superhero profile.

Kwame stepped in line with the others, following the old wrestler into the next section of the gym.  He stared in awe at the huge rings centered in the room.  Not only were they wider than what he was used it, they were also taller.  Falling out of the ring is going to hurt a lot more now.  Glad I got the tough package.  What would I have done if that stuff had turned me into a speedster or worst yet one of those blasters?  I'd have a much harder time adjusting to the Ultimates.  Thank God for small miracles.

Kwame turned his attention back to the lecture on the facilities. He wanted to ask about the fitness equipment and whether it was adjusted to their more powerful abilities but decided not to.  It only made sense that the equipment would be able to push all the athletes to their limits.  If not, then there must be some place nearby that could.  Instead, he simply nodded his head in understanding.  Glad I won't have to sit in on those classes again.  It was a pain in the rear the first time through.  No need to suffer a second time.

  13. Kwame beamed broadly.  "Thanks! Though there's nothing secretive about my identity.  Anybody with knowledge of the wrestling world would already know who I was.  I decided to keep my wrestling name as I start dabbling in the world of heroes.  I would hate to lose all my fan base.  Do you know how hard it was just to get popular in the wrestling world?"  Kwame shivered from the memory of the grueling experience.  "Let me tell you, it's not something I don't want to go through a second time!"

Kwame took a sip from the steaming hot eggnog.  The drink was smooth and light with just a taste of brandy.  Not bad.  Not as good as Grandma Harris' , but a decent substitute.  I'll have to contact Camille about getting her recipe.  Should have gotten it years ago.

"Maybe we can get that all set up before the new year?  It shouldn't take long.  What would I need to get things sorted out?"

  14. Kwame watches as Endeavor rattles over fact after fact about the history of Freedom.  This kid's got skills with the net.  Perhaps I could get her to help me set up my superhero account.  Not really sure what site to do that with.

He nods at her request for eggnog.  "That's one for you, Endeavor and one for....I'm sorry, I didn't get your name," he says looking at the stone creature.

Once he gets Gargoyle's name, he heads over tot eh eggnog booth and orders one alcoholic and two nonalcoholic eggnogs.  While in line, he buys drinks for the couple standing behind him as well.  "Courtesy of Hammer.  Make sure you catch my debut match with the Ultimate Wrestling League next month.  I promise to give you a show you'll never forget!"  The couple graciously accept the eggnog and promise to try to make the match.

Kwame returns to the small group of heroes, the eggnog in a carrying tray.  "Okay. The ones with the blue wrapping on the side are the nonalcoholic ones.  The red one has alcohol."  He passes a cup first to Endeavor and then to Gargoyle.

"By the way, Endeavor.  If you have time, I'd like your help getting my superhero profile set up online.  It could be pretty useful to get in touch with other heroes if needed."

  15. Kwame nodded slightly as Warp gave her age.  That explains a lot about her reaction to this whole situation.  Old enough to have had a bad experience, but still young enough to believe she could stop it from happening again.  Ah, youth.

He looked back at Gargoyle and Endeavor to see if they wanted to partake in the offer.  While he waited for an answer, he looked around at the various people enjoying the festivities.  He watched as one of the police officers coming down the hill almost hit a young boy who was running to one of the food booths.  Hmm, maybe Warp is on to something.  Could this all be related to that freak storm the other day?

  16. Kwame couldn't believe his ears.  17? 16?  These are kids!  Is this all that Freedom has to offer? He shook his head ruefully.  Stop thinking like that.  It's not like I'm full of experience.  For all I know, they've had their powers their whole lives which is longer than I have.  Well, maybe the stone guy and I are more on even terms.  Still, Grandma Harris always said it's best not to judge a book by its cover.  Who knows, these kids could surprise me.

The wrestler looked over at the mentioned booth and smiled.  "Thanks, kid. I owe ya one."  He took off his glove and reached into his pocket for his wallet.  "Anyone else want a cup?  I'm buying."  He looked at the small group to include everyone present in the offer, even Warp who seemed hell bent on suspecting the worst to happen.  His gaze lingered on Grimalkin, not sure whether she was interested in eggnog or not.  Her stance and festive Santa hat were at odds with each other, making it hard for Kwame to read her.

  17. Winter Memories

    December, 2016
    Theater district

Kwame had just recently arrived in Freedom City.  The apartment that he managed to get overlooked the South River.  He had just woken up to perform his daily morning workout. He turned on the TV as he took his shower.

It seems, life in Freedom City is going to be extremely difficult today.  An unusual snow storm has just hit the city.  Authorities are urging everyone to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.  The heavy snowfall has dropped visibility to a mere few feet distance.  Public transportation has been stopped due to the poor driving conditions.  All schools in the city have closed for the day.

Kwame moved to the window and looked out.  Snow was coming down so strongly that he was unable to see the river.  If it wasn't for the fact that he had a clock nearby, he would have thought it was still night.  Even the sunlight could not penetrate the heavy downfall.  He turned around and started flipping through channels on the television.  Each station showed scenes around the city.  Snow was piling up blocking streets as well as doors to homes.  Reports of water pipes bursting from the sudden drop in temperature filled another portion of the airwaves.

This is bad.  Real bad.  I wonder how the city handles weather like this?  Chicago would have had the salt trucks out and about already.  If they didn't, the mayor would be out of a job.  It’s happened before.

Kwame thought of the winter storms that had hit Chicago during his childhood.  He still remember the blizzard of 1999 where 21.6 inches of snow fell upon the city.  Schools and businesses were forced to close.  He was caught at the local youth center and unable to get home for a few hours.  While he waited, Kwame had started wrestling with the other kids who were also stranded.  He smiled inwardly as the memory reminded him of his first taste of wrestling.

Kwame moved over to the dresser and grabbed a shirt.  Might as well check on the neighbors.  See if everyone is okay.  It’s not like I can go jogging in that mess.  Kwame opened the door and went across the short hall.  Carefully, he knocked on the door.  “Mrs. Dawson?  It’s Kwame, from across the hall. I just want to make sure you’re okay.

The door opened allowing the smell of freshly baked cookies to enter the hallway.  “Oh! I was going to ask if you wanted some cookies.  Why don’t you come on in?  You could tell me all about yourself.”  Standing in the doorway was a woman with gray hair pulled back in a bun.  She wore glasses that hung slightly too low on her nose.  Red earrings seemed to pull her head lower due to their weight.  Mrs. Dawson smiled up at Kwame and he saw in that smile a familiar face.  It wasn't until that moment that he realized just how much he missed his own grandmother.  The delicious aroma of cookies in the air simply added to the feeling of warmth and home.

Kwame smiled widely as he stepped inside.  It’s not Chicago, but it does feel like I've found another place to call home.

  18. Kwame listened to Warp's explanation and was caught by surprise when Endeavor landed near them.  The wrestler twisted his upper torso to avoid most of the snow that fell atop of Warp.  Turning back to the young hero, Kwame laughed aloud.  "Looks like the snowy weather is having its intended effect upon you!"

Kwame turned to the newcomer and held out his hand to help the spacesuit clad youngster to her feet.  "I think you need to work on your landings.  If you have twisted slightly to the left, you could have landed on Warp's shoulders.  Now that would have been impressive!" He gave a playful wink towards Warp before turning his attention back to Endeavor.  "As for the eggnog, it can be made both with or without alcohol.  Grandma Harris had a recipe that tasted great both ways.  Of course, now, I prefer the alcohol version a tad bit more."

He stopped and took a moment to look at the newcomer and the stone creature.  He then took a moment to look Warp over carefully.  Too young to drink alcohol? Wait a minute, are these kids?  There are kids protecting this city?  "Hang on a second, how old are you guys?"

  19. Kwame watched the display and nodded his head at the maneuver.  He had performed the same move during his bouts with the PCW and TNA wrestling groups but that was normal wrestling.  He was interested how well a punch could be pulled when both fighters had the ability to destroy buildings.

Kwame shook his head showing that he had no further questions.  He was getting more interested in seeing the rest of the workings of the league.  So far, it was just what he wanted.

  20. Kwame took a  moment to look at the other new recruits.  Some of them were very interesting but it did get him wondering how things were going to play out.

"Yeah, I've got a quick question.  I know this is wrestling, so I assume it's pretty much the same as the mundane leagues, but I've got to ask, with this being the superpowered league, how real do we get?"  He gesture over at one of the petite new members as he continued.  "I mean, I'm pretty strong and Jesse's pretty much invulnerable. We're going to need to be pretty careful with someone as small as him.  I'm assuming your one of those agility type wrestlers, always jumping around the ring, showing off how quick you are?"

"I don't want to hurt anyone, but to make this look impressive, we'll need to know just how far we can go."  Kwame looked back at DeShaek as he finished.

  21. Kwame took the offered hand in a firm but careful grip.  "The pleasure is all mine."  He smiled broadly as he released the hand.  "Warp, huh?  That's an interesting name.  Reminds me of a fella I used to wrestle back in the PCW.  Oh, that's Pro Championship Wrestling, an independent wrestling group out of Chicago that I used to wrestle for.  His signature move was to fling his opponents into the ropes and as they bounced back, clothesline them.  He did it so fast that it was like warp speed!"

He adjusted his scarf slightly as he added.  "You wouldn't be a speedster would?  That's how you made the cup disappear?"  At the mention of the cup, his eyes widen and he slaps his forehead.  "That's right!  I almost forgot. That's why I came over in the first place!  I was looking for some real eggnog and thought you guys might be able to point me in the right direction."

  22. Kwame took a moment to look around at everyone enjoying themselves and shrugged.  "Does it really matter?  I'd rather people would have some fun than trying to hurt each other.  It is the holiday season after all."

He raised his hands in a waiting gesture before continuing.  "I admit, it is a little strange.  Nothing like this would every happen in Chicago, but then again, this is Freedom we're talking about.  Where pretty much anything could happen or appear."  Kwame looks towards the stone creature standing next to the woman.  "I mean, where else are you going to see," he gestures to include Gargoyle, Warp, a space suit with a large inner tube running toward the snow hill, and all the people having fun, "all of this in one place?  As long as there are people like yourself willing to watch out for everyone, let them enjoy themselves."

Kwame smiled at the pair and removed his knit cap. revealing his bald head.  He quickly took a bow and said, "Forgive my lack of manners.  The name's Kwame or as most people are used to calling me, Hammer.  I'm new in town and enjoying the festivities before getting to work."  He replaced the cap and adjusted the edge to ensure that the red H was slightly off centered.

  23. Kwame stepped out into the street and stopped for a moment to take in the sights.  Look at all of this craziness!  Even the cops are getting into the swing of things.  I guess even Christmas gets people to relax. He lifted his head and shifted the air.  Cinnamon!  I wonder if they have some real eggnog for sell.

With a smile on his face, he adjusted the knit black hat upon his head and tighten the red scarf around his neck.  He moved deeper in the crowds looking for a stall that was selling eggnog when he noticed the young lady  in costume and the ... stone creature?!

Kwame shook his head and moved over towards them.  Perhaps they can point me in the right direction.  Kwame raised his hand to get their attention just when dark lines of power moved about her arms.  Seeing the cup disintegrate in her hand caused Kwame to voice his surprise.  "Holy sh--" he began but quickly caught himself as a young girl ran by.  "--akes!  That was some wicked display of power!"

His voice was loud enough for the young woman and stone creature to easily hear.  Kwame seemed quite normal.  He wore his black knit cap with a red H embossed on the edge, a red knit scarf, a thick down felt winter jacket, blue jeans, and brown construction boots.  The clothes, though bulky, did little to disguise the muscular shape on his five eleven frame.  He smiled warmly at the pair.
