  1. "Busking can work out if you have a guy working the crowd while you're drawing attention- I mean, yeah , you can make good money from busking. I've not done it, but I've got friends who have." She said with an awkward laugh. Pickpocketing was not a normal topic of lunchtime conversation with the sane, after all. Or with the superhero community. The armour probably didn't like it that much either. She took a drink to hide her embarrassment before refocusing on the conversation. She thought for a second about her own personal hobbies, the Star-Squire thinking for a moment. "I'd say one of my hobbies is hitting the gym. I like to stay in shape, like to work out a lot. But I'm busy a lot with study and work, so. I guess I also like playing bass. I also surf, or I used to, haven't been out to the beach in a while. I also did boxing for a while, that was fun. But like, I mostly focus on my studies and training. I wanna go to law school or something, help out the community. You know how it is, right?" She said with a chuckle, before shooting a glare at a louder table nearby. "You gotta do what's right, or whatever. Help people out." She shrugged when Neko confirmed she was a streamer. "Cool. I don't really use social media so I don't follow a lot of streamers. Is it fun?"
  2. "Hey, even I'll admit that Freedom City is pretty cool, ese. I'm from New York, yeah? And this place kinda rocks, though mi abuela would be furious with me for admitting that." Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez chuckled as she sipped a milkshake and wondered internally how she'd wound up here. She had a vague memory of being dragged along the second it was discovered she had a vanishingly rare day off. She didn't mind too much, while the others could be kind of annoying, she was letting them grow on her. Miri was nothing if not the kind of girl who liked to make friends as soon as she could, and well, nothing like making some friends. She was wearing cutoffs and an oversized Mets jersey along with a beanie containing as much of her hair as possible. She was also wearing her trusty sneakers and a pair of tights under the cutoffs. Sure it was winter, but she wasn't gonna not wear her shorts, not her style not her speed. "I don't know anything about Kami, but Doc Metropolis is kinda sick. So, huh, one of you is a streamer or whatever, what's your deal, Ryan? Hobbies or whatever." She took another sip of her milkshake, drumming her fingers on the table. She had trouble focusing on the conversation completely, since her armour had been chirping since they got here and it was driving her just a smidge crazy. She was specifically armouring and dearmouring her palm, trying to avoid exposing her secret on her first mall trip. "Can anyone here hear that pinging sound?"
  3. "No danger, huh? I dunno about that, we're going to be doing 'survival'. But hey, what do I know, I willingly moved to Jersey." The young hero groused, folding her arms as she realised that Karza was looking at her funny, and given the essential nature of Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez, she didn't immediately clock it as anything but an attempt to figure out if Miri was strong. She floated a bit off the ground, looking down at the others. The twins were alright, she'd met them already, and Lawrence seemed like he wanted to be more charming than he was, which, whatever. Neko was the one she couldn't get much of a read on, was she just the iron-clad b that she was fronting as or was there something else going on? She didn't especially care, because she wasn't gonna take orders if she could help it, but she was gonna figure it out when she had time. "Who hikes? I can fly, so just tell me where I gotta go and I'll be there."
  4. Star-Squire Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez, Miri to her friends, Miriam to everyone else, and Star-Squire when it was necessary, emerged from the plane with a bag over her shoulder and a somewhat annoyed expression on her face. Though, on closer inspection, she wasn't annoyed so much as she was squinting in the bright light before the armour emerged from her back and wrapped around her body, the climate controlled suit giving her a delightfully perfect environment. She floated up, looking around, the armour moving seamlessly like another skin as she tried to get a sight of the place they were jumping dimensions through. She shook her head as she didn't see anything, instead floating back down, her red and gold armour glowing faintly as she landed on the ground "Well, we're just waiting I guess, huh!" She said before finding a rock and sliding down against it, looking out at the horizon and pulling out a gatorade from her stuff, her helmet retracting to let her drink it. "You know, this camping stuff isn't all that bad when you think about it. Or when you got climate control in your armour. Six of one."
  5. Miriam didn't relax specifically, because she was built in a lab to be more tense than a coiled spring, but she did visibly shift to be more at ease as she heard Multi-Girl's story. It was, well, not quite the same as hers, but immigrant parents, working part time, yada yada, she'd clearly made an effort to meet Miri where she lived and that was only something she could appreciate. "Yeah...I was pretty surprised I qualified, considering...anyway. You play lacrosse? You kinda seem the type, yeah. I was in track for a bit before I got kicked for fighting with the other girls. It was a whole thing, they were talking trash about a friend of mine so I decided to, you know, have a chat about it." She winced as she realised what she was saying. But, hey, it was gonna spread eventually that she was miss delinquent, she might as well be honest about it. However, honesty could wait because she was distracted by the appearance of several people and ingrained reflexes had the young superhero activate the Star-Squire armour, her body suddenly enclosed in her armour before she very abashedly had it retract "Ay, dios mio. I'm sorry, reflex. Still getting used to wearing this, uh, Starshine. I'm Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez, but, uh, Miri or Star-Squire is fine." She offered a hand to shake before double taking as the twins showed up, speaking in unison. She hadn't seen much freaky stuff so far, beyond the aliens and the weird space armour, but still, twins with brain themed names wasn't super common as experiences went. "Uh, hola. I'm Miriam Francesca Luisa...you probably heard that already! I'm gonna be real with you, guys, those are some cool names. Parts of the brain, right?"
  6. "Sure, I just prefer to hang onto it. It's no big, if I need to I'll just Get Strong about it. Which I can do. I've got stuff. I mean pretty much everyone here has Stuff, right? Powers, or whatever. I mean, obviously you do, you've got your duplicate. And I've been talking for a while." She ducked her head and rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly, trying not to blush. She had to not be a total freak day one, she had to figure out the street rules here. She let out a quiet sigh, trying to relax. It sure wasn't easy, especially not in a place where she felt so...well, out of place. She didn't feel like she belonged here, and that was hard to shake. "It's nice to meet you too, Bernadette. Sorry that I'm acting weird, just, you know, a little overwhelmed." She gestured around the campus, an expansive and somehow nervous gesture. "Last week I was bussing tables and couch surfing, you know? But, uh...so the athletic fields! There a basketball court?"
  7. There was a lot going on with Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez at this present moment. There had been a lot going on over the last few days, really, the events of her life had gotten much more interesting and complicated in even measure. She was a Star-Squire now, which was awesome! Having to spend her summers on an alien planet wasn't really unawesome, but like, it wasn't going to be a holiday, yeah? She was incredibly grateful that Ms Montoya (who she was going to not call anything else, she was cool but scary) had managed to keep her on earth for nine months. After all, she had stuff to do. "Adios, Ms Montoya, I'll do my best to make the Order proud." She said with a nervous smile before her mentor (not Mentor) left She sat as demurely as possible, which wasn't really very demure as possible, fidgeting in her seat as she looked around the office, paying attention but still just incredibly nervous. She was glad she'd managed to shower before this meeting, because jeez she wouldn't wanna stink around these private school kids. She nodded as she listened to the principal, her fingers tapping out the beat to Ain't It Fun, though she'd be loathe to admit she was a Paramore girlie. "My guide? Okay, yeah, gotta understand the lay of the land, that makes sense, it works for me, love that." She said with a nervous grin, before looking up and feeling her stomach drop as she saw an incredibly gorgeous girl standing above her and once again, Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez bemoaned the fact that she was short. "Hi! I'm, uh, Miri. Miriam. Or Miri, whatever you want to use? Uh, it's good to meet you!" She thrust her hand forward to shake before realising that Bernadette said something about bags "Oh, uh, no, I've really only got the one and it's fine, really." She picked up the bag containing everything she possessed in the world and gave a tight smile. "I appreciate the offer though."
  8. Star Squire Power Level: 8/10 (150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Teen delinquent turned newest member of the Star-Knights! Catchphrase: For Justice, Truth, Honour and, uh...Something! Theme: The Chain (Fleetwood Mac) Alternate Identity: Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez (Secret) Birthplace: The Bronx, New York, USA Residence: Claremont Academy Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Occupation: Student, Superhero Affiliations: The Star Knights Family: None she’d consider close, but her father is still alive. Description: Miriam is very wiry and quite strong, built like a runner and fairly muscular in a lithe way. She’s compacT, given her smaller frame, and has an overall sense of having more energy than she knows what to do with. She also has a scar over her eyebrow from when she fell off a trampoline and kissed pavement and one on her cheek from when she got thrown through a window before she got her sick alien space armour. Her hands and knuckles are pretty callused from being a street fighter. And a delinquent. Miriam has a contralto, and has a fairly strong Brooklyn accent. Her voice is a little raspy, but overall pretty easy to listen to and understand. She has long dark brown hair, almost black. It's usually tied into a ponytail and she's probably going to cut it off soon. She’s considered dying it, but she likes her natural colour a lot so she hasn’t gotten around to it yet. Age: 16 (DoB 8/1/2007) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Latina Height: 5’0” Weight: I dunno Eyes: Brown Hair: Black History: Miriam was always a bit of a problem child. Her mom passed when she was little and her dad was often too drunk to keep track of her, hoping she was at school, but she was more often roaming the streets and getting into trouble. Not fun trouble, but more shoplifting and fights kind of trouble. She did it for people she knew, mostly. “Friends” who’d talk her into using her muscles and lack of personal regard to help them out. She felt bad that she wasn't doing more for her family, especially her little brother, who she wanted to not end up on the streets, but she didn't know what she could do to help him. The fights got worse and the run-ins with the cops got worse, building to a head that she felt would eventually boil over. But, her “friends” needed her and she also kinda liked getting into street fights and stuff. Then she got the armour, and everything changed. Or, nothing did, depending on who you asked. Got wasn't even the right word for it. The Star-Knight armour saved her life. The city had been set ablaze and Miriam had been trapped under rubble, her legs broken and the fire creeping towards her. The Armour had rescued her, healed her legs and explained what the Mentor was, what had befallen her. And most importantly, it took her to meet another Star-Knight. Miri was starstruck, overawed and terrified in equal measure. Miriam had never seen someone like her before. They gave a crap. They’d asked about Miriam’s like and they’d cared about her story. They hadn’t written her off, or taken the armour back, saying they had the wrong girl. People didn’t think that about Miriam, or anything about her. Sure you saw the Freedom League on TV, and you heard the stories, but girls like her? No one cared about them. But the Star-Knight cared. They listened, and they were incredible. They were a real superhero. The kind of person that really truly thought the world would get better, that people like Miriam could make it better if they just tried. And the crazy part was that Miri had started to believe them. That she might be important, she might even matter to other people. That the armour hadn’t made a mistake in picking her. Personality & Motivation: Miriam is a punk, all things considered. She’s impulsive, quick-tempered, gets in over her head far too easily and never thinks things through. Ever. She’s the kind of person who gets attached easily and gets angry over stuff far easier than she should. However, she is kind at her core, wanting to do things to make people she cares about happy, which can leave her open to being used by people who know this about her. She wants to make the world a better place, to protect the innocent and not let the little guy get stepped on. She desperately wants to be more than just a punk teen with a mutation, and she wants to live up to the legacy she's taken on herself. She’s chatty and hard-working, never giving up on something once she gets her teeth sunk into it, and she is good at picking stuff up quickly. She makes enemies as easily as she makes friends, but despite her temper flaring up easily, she forgives just as swiftly. She’s more terrified of being alone than anything else, a trait she tries to keep to herself, but again, she can be the kind of person who often ends up as muscle or a lookout for someone cunning enough to exploit her impulsive heart. She’s fairly clever, however, with a quick wit and the ability to learn stuff pretty quickly. She’s not superhumanly so, of course, but she knows what she’s about. She’s pretty handy with tools and knows how to draw pretty well, mostly doing portraits and sketches of people she sees wandering around and she is very proud of her still lifes. Very proud. She rarely shows her art to anyone but her most close, dear friends. Her deepest wish is that she wants, more than anything, to be special. She wants to deserve the armour she got, and she needs to be the person who is worthy of being a Star-Knight. Whatever the armour saw in her, she doesn’t see it in herself. Powers & Tactics: Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez is in possession of the Star-Knight armour, alien armour connected to the Star-Stone, and a fledgling member of the Order. She is a complete novice with the armour, and as such fights without really tapping into its full potential. She throws energy blasts, she turned the sword into energy gauntlets and still fights like she’s in a street fight. She fights dirty, and hasn’t quite understood why she shouldn’t, what the hell “setting an example” even means. She throws herself into fights wholeheartedly and with immense gusto, relying on the fact that the armour hasn’t let her get hurt yet However, she isn’t dumb. She simply has never had this kind of power before, and it has thrown off her usual tactics quite a bit. She is adapting to the rush, but needs to get the kind of basic training one needs to really get the armour. Hence, Claremont. She loves to taunt and throw quips in fights, knowing that if she gets her enemies angry, they’ll get sloppy and she’ll be able to go for the eyes or other vulnerable spots before they can figure out she’s pissing them off deliberately. Power Descriptions: She wears the Star-Knight armour, set to Squire format, though she has managed to change some of the appearance settings, adding an external coating that resembles a black, metallic leather jacket to her aesthetic. Her armour itself is red and gold, the symbol on her chest glowing with iridescent light, though it seems to fluctuate with her mood. Her energy blasts and gauntlets are gold and red, respectively, and she leaves a white trail behind as she flies through the air. Flight is her favourite benefit from the suit, the freedom it provides something she’s craved, and it is probably the ability she’s best with. Complications: Everyone Deserves A Second Chance: Miriam believes in everyone's better nature, even if it would be more prudent to be wary. If she could be more than a delinquent, anyone can. The GM can rule that Miri fails Sense Motive checks against people convincing her of their better nature You Talkin’ To Me?: Miriam takes insults very poorly, and is easily baited into fights by people belittling or mocking her. She’s from a place where you don’t take disrespect, and that’s hard to unlearn. I’m Not Worthy: Miriam has deep seated self esteem issues, born from her terrible home life and delinquent past. She can freeze up when everything’s riding on her, and she hates it. The GM can require a Will save from Miri when acting under pressure. If she fails, she freezes and cannot act that round No Armour, No Hero: If, by some horror, she wasn’t able to activate her armour, Miriam is a powerless teenager. Chronic Hero Syndrome: If someone’s in need, Star-Squire’s there. No questions asked, she’ll help. Secret Identity: The world, and especially her family, cannot know that Miriam Francesca Luisa Juarez is the hero known as Star-Squire. I Miss Mom: Miriam occasionally falls into a depression when she is acutely missing her mother. Teenage Headache Dreams: Miriam is a hopeless romantic, and falls in feelings easily. She has been unlucky in love so far, and odds are she's gonna stay that way if she doesn't calm down. Three Lines, No Waiting: Miriam has a focus so split it might rival the Star Wars fanbase. She is attending Claremont Academy to learn how to be a hero, performing her duties as a Star-Squire and working part-time at a Chinese restaurant that didn't ask too many questions. She is putting herself under a lot of pressure. Let's hope nothing breaks! 9. The Thaumaturge Power Level: 10 (Built as 8, 150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: A burgeoning arcanist and warrior, Cassandra seeks to find herself and fight evil as the Thaumaturge! Catchphrase: By the Powers of Earth and Sky! Theme: Alternate Identity: Cassandra Anne Rose (Secret), Birthplace: Unknown Residence: Claremont Academy Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Occupation: Student Affiliations: N/A Family: Adoptive mothers and one sibling. Age: 16 DoB: 08/01/2005 Apparent Age: Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’6 Weight: Eyes: Green Hair: Red Description: Cassandra is a tallish girl who has a decent physique from running all over the place, but despite that always gives the impression of someone who is an inch longer than she expects to be at any given time and is about half an inch thinner than she originally thinks. She’s got green eyes that are always darting around a room, the curiosity bleeding out of them. Cass has auburn hair cut into a bob cut that she ties back when she’s thinking or on the run. It’s usually pretty messy, and she likes to stick fun hairclips into it. Her costume is a purple shirt, black pants, a shoulder-cloak with a hood and a longcoat. She wears a mask to obscure her eyes and leaves her mouth free for spellcasting without getting all muffled and whatnot. In her civilian identity, Cass wears a brown trench-coat everywhere. Every-freakin-where. It’s got a million pockets and is covered in pins. Well, there’s a few pins. Gay pride, lesbian pride, X-Files and a Sonic Youth pin. She wears a button down shirt beneath it, tucked into either jeans or slacks, depending on what she’s doing that day. She wears boots or sneakers for similar reasons. She does own a dress or two, but those are for formal occasions, not for work. History: Cassandra was orphaned at a young age and adopted by Esterion, an otherdimensional wizard of some power and little kindness. She was trained by her for several years, gaining the basics of her knowledge through intense training and education. She ran Cassandra ragged for years, teaching her how to control magic, the lore of the arcane world and never giving her a word of praise, simply continuing to train her in line with her strange, cryptic goals. Esterion never explained them to her, no matter how much she begged or pleaded for answers. The mage rarely called Cassandra by name, calling her apprentice more than anything else. Cassandra had not finished her training before Esterion passed away, leaving her apprentice on a street corner with very little to her name except for her magical paraphenalia and clothes on her back. A kindly stranger took her to a shelter and she was shuffled through the foster system, ending up in a very nice adoptive family who didn’t entirely have the methods to properly help Cassandra get a lid on all the magical energy she has amassed when she was training. She was enrolled in Claremont Academy, Personality & Motivation: Cassandra is a rather stern and serious girl, who keeps her mind on the task at hand and tries to remain on topic at all times. She is often called grumpy, which is accurate and quite fair, impatient is also very fair. However, she does have a sense of fun, and when she has spare time, she's often found reading and meditating.. On some level, she does want to make friends in this bizarre school, but finds herself somewhat out of touch with those around her and struggles to make connections due to her having been educated in a house far from other human contact, raised by an occultist who was divorced from human concerns at the best of times. She also just generally finds people quite annoying sometimes, liking solitude to examine her thoughts and desires and general vibes for the world. However, she is very hungry for some friendship and if she finds it, she will be undyingly loyal to the person who cares for her. Despite her stoic exterior, however, she has a raging temper bubbling under the surface, something she has spent her life trying to control. This wrath is her greatest weakness, she is aware of this, but she still hasn't managed to control it. She is a smart, strategic fighter and a talented mage, but her unstable temper bubbles away, mangling her magic and being a dangerous hindrance in every sense. Besides this, she is a very practical and pragmatic girl, often looking for the most direct approach to a problem rather than making highly complicated plans, though she is capable of doing both. She tries to understand entirely how powerful she and how powerful she isn't, but despite this is often overly confident in her abilities. She really likes to sew and secretly likes to write poetry. At her core, however, Cassandra just wants to matter. She wants to be loved, to be respected and she wants to be regarded as more than just someone’s apprentice. She wants to be essential to a group, she wants to be seen as wise and clever and useful. She definitely doesn’t want to *just* be a scholar of arcane lore, though she really does love it, she wants to be a philosopher and a costume designer and a superhero. She kind of wants to create her own style of magic and a philosophy around it, and she is scared to admit that to people, since she’s worried she’ll be mocked or treated like an idiot for that ambition. Besides all this, she does have a good sense of humour and isn’t all angst all the time. She’s usually quite focused on her goals, trying to ignore her sense of loneliness and trying to get a grip on her temper, trying to become more self-controlled and able to keep her head in a fight without completely losing her mind Powers & Tactics: The Thaumaturge powers her magical spells through the contracts she has made with local spirits of land and sky, through the magical talent she has mastered herself and through her master’s intense training She tends to open with an attempt to discern the motives of her enemy, never moving against them until she’s got all the pieces of the puzzle, but once she does, she goes all out to take them down quickly Power Descriptions: Cassandra’s spells are always met with a rush of wind and a whisper of the spirit agreeing to lend her power. Her sorcerous blasts are usually spirits striking her foes, or focused blasts of magical energy, when she binds an opponent in place, roots rise up and hold them in place. Her spells are also often met with circles of arcane sigils appearing in the air around her hand as the spell is cast. Complications: Hot-Blooded: Cassandra’s temper runs hot and she loses her cool in the heat of battle easily, getting in over her head or using too much force in a situation. Manners Maketh Mage: Cassandra’s contracts are often with mercurial entities who prefer to be asked nicely about what she needs from them, and impoliteness can lead to her spells simply not functioning when she needs them. Part-Time Bookslinger: Cassandra works at a bookstore on weekends and after school, and it has gotten in the way of heroics more than once. Something's gotta give, and soon.
