  1. "...Wow, that was kinda dark, sorry about that," The creature acknowledged as he decided to liven things up a bit by resuming a more humanoid form and taking a seat again, "I get a little caught up in the past when I start going off on my tangents. It's really something I need to work on. I do want to be the writer of my own story but it can be kinda tricky at times...then again, I suppose nothing in life worth doing is ever meant to be easy," At this, he actually managed a little chuckle before getting an idea, "Hey, mind showing me what you got drawn so far? Actually, any suggestions for what you might like to see? Cute and cuddly or big and scary?"

    Quantum Shift

20 Question Interview Good day to you, Mr Quantum Shift. Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule to give us some insight as to the person behind the...mask, I guess?....Uh, Quantum, sir? You know we're on the air, right? Hmm? *looks up from where he's rehearsing with a pair of puppets morphed from his hands* Oh! So we are! Sorry about that! *changes his hands back* I'm performing at a hospital for sick children later today so I figured I'd get in some last minute practice. That's perfectly fine, Mr Shift. Now then, Question One. Can you give us some information on where exactly you're from? Ah, of course. I'm not from around these parts. In fact, I'm not even from Earth...well, THIS Earth to be more exact. I come from an Alternate Earth which is honestly similar to this one in many ways, except there's no Freedom City, no superheroes or villains...as far as I know anyways, and our technology is around the same level as what you guys got here too. Another Earth? I gotta say, that's fascinating to hear! Now, Question Two, what is it you want to do with your powers? Well, I mainly want to use what I been given to protect people. Growing up, I read a lot of comics about superheroes and I learned they weren't just "super" cause of their powers, but because of what kind of people they were. They stood up for what was right and believed in using what they had to do good. I felt like I should follow in their footsteps and be an example for those whom are born in the future. Very admirable of you. Alright, Question Three. What would you say are some of your favorite things about being a hero? And your least favorite? Oh, man...*chuckles nervously as he scratches the back of his neck* Uh...this is a little embarrassing but I guess it's a mix of between being able to help people and having powers. I mean, I always found abilities like shapeshifting to be really cool since if you weren't satisfied with how you looked one minute, you could change it. It's also amazing the ways you can help others by being able to morph your body. As for downsides...*sighs* Well...I've had a few run-ins with people whom are still paranoid that I'm some sort of Grue spy that's setting things up for another invasion...though I guess I can't really fault them considering shapeshifters tend to create all kinds of paranoia no matter where you go. Another is that I don't always get as much gratitude as I might like to get. I'm not a glory hound but I was always taught to say "thank you" when someone does something nice for me. Hmm, true, true...ok, Question Four, what are a few things you've used your powers for outside of stopping crime? Ah. Well, stopping evildoers and solving problems don't pay the bills so I've had to get a bit creative. As you saw at the start, I sometimes perform at hospitals for sick children by turning into their favorite mascots or I fish items people lose in the sewer out for them, one of the benefits of being able to turn into a liquid, or I help with construction work on big projects. Things like that...a friend of mine actually mentioned that shapeshifters can do pretty well for themselves in the public sector and I guess they were right. Indeed. Alright, Question Five, what are some things you love or hate? Hmm...well, I like pizza...and cake...and pie...oh, other than food? Well, I love my family very much. In fact, one of the reasons I'm still here is in the hopes I'm protecting them from...well, the things that did this to me...*causes his hand to transform into various shapes before returning to normal* I also love video games and meeting people, and reading books. Oh, word of advice? Play Undertale. That game is amazing. Things I hate?...I hate racism, and certain mindsets such as "might makes right" or "ends justify the means" or people who have too high an opinion of themselves and hold it over the heads of others. Also...I REALLY don't like see food getting wasted! You...don't like seeing food get wasted? Of course not! Seriously, do you know how much food we throw away every day? I don't know the exact amount but...well, I'm pretty sure it's a lot! ...Is that why I saw you eating trash out in the corridor before you came in?...You know what, nevermind. Question Six, What is it you fear most? ...Getting a little personal now, aren't we?...Eh, whatever...I guess my greatest fear is being left alone all over again...I can't really tell you all the details but I was in a really bad place at one point in my life and just when I thought I was done for, I got saved by the kindness of complete strangers...so the thought of going back in that dark place scares me above all else. I see....I'm sorry about that, Mister Shift, and thank you for sharing that. I'm sure many of our listeners can relate to how you feel. Do you want to go on? Sure, sure. Ok, Question Seven. How do you feel about the state of the world and your place in it? Well, the world could be better...but then again, it could be a lot worse. I mean, no matter where you come from there's always gonna be difficulties and stuff. My place is trying to make things a little better...but I'm not dumb enough to think that it's my responsibility alone to change the world. Everybody should have a hand in deciding its future. Me and every other hero out there will fight for your rights and freedom...but we need your help too to make sure those efforts don't go to waste. Alright then, very good. Question Eight....what would you say are some of your strengths and weaknesses? Hmm, I'd probably say that one of my main strengths is my transformations mean I'm never short on ways to attack or defend myself. This is especially the case if I'm allowed to get up close and personal to my targets since...well, *chuckles* Let's just say that the chances of them getting away unscathed are slim to none...if they're lucky. I've also found that I'm pretty frekkin durable so I can be relied on to be a meat shield in certain situations. Weaknesses...they tend to lean towards things like range in that the further away my target is, the harder it is for me to take them on. So someone who flies or is really, really fast or is really, really good with arrows and ballistics could have an advantage over me. Another is that I don't really have the professional training other heroes have which could leave me at a disadvantage when facing opponents whom...well, do have training and stuff. I see, I see...Question Nine...do you have a special someone in your life? *smirks* *goes red in the face somehow*...You're serious...well, I don't...I've had a couple of female friends I'm close to but no. I am in no relationship at the moment. Next question, please! Hehe...sure you aren't...Question Ten...how would you describe your emotional and mental state? Eh, I'd like to think of myself as a pretty nice guy as long you don't push my buttons. I'm aware that I got incredible powers but I'm not fond of using violence as a solution to a situation. I'd much rather talk things out then let matters spiral into chaos. I like to listen to people's problems and offer advice where I can...that said, I can be a bit hypocritical in that I sometimes end up being a closed book on my own feelings, put on a smile and pretend nothing is wrong. Also, as you've probably seen, I'm not too excited about being the center of attention and when there's a large crowd of people I'll tend to get nervous and drift off to be by myself for a little while. So, I guess in that regard I'm not much different than most people. *chuckles* Heh, indeed. Now, Question Eleven. If you could travel anywhere you wanted, where would you like to go and why? Hmm, good question...well, I've always wanted to try visiting other countries like France and Italy...and I am not just saying Italy cause of wanting to try authentic Italian Food. I'd also like to see Atlantis at least once...as long as it's not the Atlantis from Tentacolino... Tentacolino? Trust me, you will lead a long, happy life without knowing the first thing about that travesty of a film...anyways, seeing space would also be nice. Visiting other species that live out there in the stars and seeing what our own world looks like from space...it sounds like it would be a great experience. I think most of us would like to see space at least once in our lives. Now, Question Twelve, what are your feelings on the concept of life and death? In the words of a certain character..."I am beyond life and death". Ooooohhh!! *does spooky noises and waves hands like a ghost before laughing* S-Sorry, I couldn't resist!...I guess what I would say is...well, with all the gods and demons I've seen running around, there has to be some sort of afterlife, right? It only makes sense..but at the same time, I feel you should try living and making the best of this life first before you think of what comes after. ...Losing someone you love can be difficult and I know that better than a lot of people...but you can't let that stop you from leading your life. Things can be sad and difficult at times...but I don't think you should sit there and take it. You gotta stand up, reach out your hand to those who need it...I think that's how you build a better world....sorry, I have a habit of going off on a tangent on times... That's fine, Mr Shift. It's good to be passionate about these types of things. Now, Question Thirteen, have you ever worked with any teams? And what's your feelings on possibly joining one? ...I do remember working with a few other heroes whenever there was a crisis of sorts, like a hostage situation or a gang of robots attacking. They seemed like a nice bunch and I have pondered the benefits of joining a team, if only to get some professional training in, so I'm not gonna turn it down right away but...eh, at the same time I kinda like having my space. So, we'll say "Maybe" on that front. Alright, Question 14, would you consider yourself a role model? *can't help himself but starts laughing while nearly choking on his grape soda* Pffftt!! Oh man....hehe...that's a good one...me? A role model? Look, as much I appreciate the thought, I'm doing what I can to be like the rest of you...but I will say this...no matter where you come from or what's happened to you...you've always got a choice...to be better than those who tormented and hurt you...remember that, guys. Hmm, for someone whom don't see themselves as a role model you certainly give out some insightful advice. Ok, Question 15, how difficult would you say it has been getting settled in to your new role? Well, it definitely wasn't a total hassle, but it wasn't a walk in the park either. When I first stepped out into the spotlight, I felt kinda nervous, especially with all the attention I got from the League. Thankfully, things calmed down after a while and I was treated more or less like one of their own. I see. Alright, Question 16. If you could do one thing in your life differently, what would you want that to be? ...There are times I wonder if I could've kept my biological parents from separating and we could've lived happily...but I gotta remind myself if that were the case I would've never met my REAL family and became the kind of person I am today. Thank you for that, Mr Shift. This question should be a little easier to answer. Question Seven, do you have any favorite bands? Oh, I'm particular towards groups like Queen. I really love anything they got. Rush is also quite good...and I guess I do like the occasional J-Pop... Heh, I see, I see...ok, we're getting close to done. Question Eighteen, are you on any Chat Messengers like Skype, Discord, etc? *tilts head*...If it's alright with you, I'd like to have just a LITTLE bit of privacy, please? For all I know, some super genius villain will hear this and use it to hack my accounts. O-Of course, Mr Shift, sir. My apologies. Question 19, what are your feelings on aliens and metahumans and their place on Earth? *shrugs* Live and let live is my philosophy. Politics was never something I got too involved with but I like to judge based on "character" rather than race. If you're a decent individual or at least keep to yourself, I see no reason why they shouldn't get the same rights other humans do. Alright, final question. Do you have any advice for up and coming heroes? Certainly. Guys, make sure you weigh the pros and cons of what you're doing before you take up the mantle...but at the same time, if you want to see real change in the world, you gotta go out and BE the change you want to see in it. Well, that's all we have. Thank you for your time, Mr Shift. The pleasure was all mine.
  3. "Luck, huh.." Shift morphed back into a more humanoid shape as he pondered over what he was hearing. In some ways, it reminded him of himself, of looking up to people who seemed larger than life and could accomplish impossible feats with little effort. He had always hoped that one of them would swoop in some day and save him from his problems...but none ever came. Banishing those dark thoughts, he turned back to his professor, "And then you discovered you were basically a probability manipulator. The kind of person whose power is only one level...below...warping...reality...itself..." He trailed off as it finally hit him just what kind of power the man before him was carrying around. It was at that moment he decided he would avoid ever making this fella angry. The goo-like substance that made up his body morphed again to resemble something with a great many eyes and tentacles yet somehow managed to still speak to him, "I apologize if this gets a little too personal...but I guess you eventually learned heroism isn't all fun and games." It was more of a gentle statement than a question.
  4. The creature tilted its "head" in curiosity yet again at this new information. "Distributed anatomy...?" He stared down at his body...or the gelatinous mess he had for one, "...That would explain quite a bit but...I don't really know..." The creature's head lowered a little, "However, I do recall when the virus was injecting into my veins...it was...well, let's just say that if rubber had feelings...I would now know how it feels when someone pulls it in a million directions..." Despite his appearance, a sigh could be heard, "I'm sorry for the lack of detail. I think whatever happened on that ship messed with my head in more ways than one," Wanting any excuse to get away from this topic, he seemed to brighten up at hearing Edge's offer, "Huh? Oh no, I don't mind. Go ahead," The man's body shifted again into what looked like a large dog-like creature with a bunch of tendrils around its neck in the shape of a lion's mane and maybe a few too many teeth. "So, sir, mind telling me how you first discovered your powers?"
  5. Once again, the young man had to take a few seconds to get his bearings. Once he did though...well, a part of him wished he hadn't. All around him were signs of a fearsome battle. Despite the cold weather, fires were raging, wreckage was strewn everywhere and men in armor were fighting off what looked like some type of hulking monstrosities. In some ways, it looked like a scene from one of those Alien Invasion films. He groaned and saw the gun lying next to him. Perhaps he could use that to forge a lockpick and undo the cuffs, letting him get a quick getaway...however, almost immediately he banished that idea from his mind. These so-called "patriots" may have been idiots, and they had indeed ruined any chance of a happy new year for him...but they didn't deserve to die for that. His strength now having mostly returned, he called out to one of the men in uniform, "Hey, you!" He cleared his throat, "Yeah, you...mind letting me out of these cuffs, please?" He held out his wrists, "Look, I know what you're thinking...and I got no intentions of killing you or running away...let me prove my "humanity" to you by helping you stop your friends over there..." He gestured to the transformed soldiers, "You got two choices here...either leave me like this and risk letting everyone here die...or take off these cuffs and maybe, just maybe...you guys can go back home to your families alive...I mean, at least some of you must have people who would be devastated if you didn't come home..." "Please...don't let fear stop you from doing what is right..."
  6. Quantum Shift uses Diplomacy to try and convince one of the MJ-20 agents to break him free to let him help: Use Diplomacy to get free.: 1d20+10 24
  7. The young man stopped himself right as he was about to dig into another bite of pie at hearing the professor mention a certain name,"...Grue?" He frowned while looking downwards, "Strange....I feel like I know that name from somewhere..." He closed his eyes as he thought back. Grue, Grue...it was almost as if the answer was right there, just out of his reach...that ship he had been trapped on...it was the key somehow...yet his memories of that place were still muddy at best. He was once more brought out of his mental wandering by Edge's voice, "Huh? Me?" This was the part that would likely end up being a tad embarrassing. He looked down at the pie and took a bite out of it before getting up to set it on a table and stretching his legs, "Well...to say I can...do a lot...would be an understatement..." One more look around to make sure nobody was nearby...and his whole body then took on an inky blue and grey substance which caused him to collapse into a puddle...that quickly reformed into a humanoid creature made from the goop. A pair of blue orbs lit up in its "head" as if acting like eyes before looking over at Edge, "Relax, it's still me in here," It spoke before beginning to morph its limbs into various appendages and weapons, spikes sprouting along its spine, and various other transformations. At one point, an entire section of his blob-like form turned into a serpent-like creature before reverting back, "You'd be surprised how easy it is to get back stuff people drop down sewer drains when you are literally a walking pile of primordial goop," Despite his appearance, there was quite a bit of humor in his voice, "That and, you know, doing construction work, baking cakes...sometimes I work at a hospital as a giant teddy bear for sick kids, or a one-man puppet show...that kind of thing...and as far as I can tell the only limits on all this is my imagination." The creature glanced down at its mass before tilting its "head" at Edge, "Question, you got any ideas where my brain goes?" He sounded genuinely curious.
  8. TRANSFORMED by Fox This is Gamer making a request to see my Quantum Shift sheet get edited. Namely the Powers section. I request the removal of Improved Initiative 2, Move-by Action, and Set Up along with Super Senses. I would like the points from this to be used to bring Morph to its highest rank possible. One of the remaining points to be used to retain the Immunity To Aging. I bring this up cause I made a mistake while calculating the PP for my Powers and ended up with 58, not 57 since I had left out Immunity. My apologies. If those changes were made, I would be grateful. The last point may need to be dropped.
  9. "Wait, a genie?" Needless to say, this caught the young man's attention, "As in, you can just snap your fingers and cause whatever to ha-" Before he could even finish that question, the professor caused an actual pecan pie to materialize from what seemed like thin air. The sight of this was enough shock to make him fall silent. When Edge offered the pie, the shapeshifter looked at it for several seconds like he was worried it would explode if he took it...finally, he realized just how stupid that sounded and graciously took the pie, "Thanks...I had a rather light lunch so this will tide me over till supper..." The pie was still warm so he knew for a fact it was real. He listened to the rest of the professor's explanation and nodded in acknowledgment, "Even being able to do just that can give you a crazy amount of power, indeed..." The fact that Edge was able to make the pie with hardly any effort showed that such a feat didn't even scratch the surface of what he could potentially do, "It's good to see it being used responsibly..." He blinked and looked up at hearing himself become the topic of conversation, "Oh me? Morpher? Yeah, I guess the name I got was a pretty big hint, huh?" He chuckled at this before looking around to make sure no one was nearby before lifting up his hand and letting his index finger morph into a small serrated black knife which he then used to cut a piece of the pie. That same finger than turned into a fork-like appendage which he then used to pick up said piece and eat it. It was melt in your mouth delicious, "As you can tell, my body's been changed by that virus...what I have now changes based on my will..." He held up his hand as it formed into a blue-silver claw-like appendage before becoming a spiked mace then changing back, "Think Venom or better yet Alex Mercer for an idea of what I am now," He let that thought sink into the professor's head before shrugging, "So far, I think I've only scratched the surface of what I can do now, but I like to think even what I got so far has let me help a lot of people." He managed a small smile at this.
  10. The human-turned-alien host looked up at hearing the professor talking to him. For some reason, he found himself hanging on to every word and letting what was being said sink in. "I...I suppose you have a point...I mean, growing up I had a love of comic books and superheroes...so my current situation should be a dream come true for me...I just hope I can prove myself worthy of what I been given," He tilted his head at hearing about Mark's friend, "Really? Huh, that's actually great...I guess she's a prime example of how it's not where you're from that matters, it's what you do that counts," He gave out an empty chuckle, "Now if only I could bother actually following through with that philosophy myself," The alien host leered over at what the professor was doing, "What would you say have been some of the stranger ones you been to?...For that matter, I don't think I've even asked what your powers are, have I?"
  11. Just from a glance, the shapeshifter could tell his professor didn't look much older than himself, and yet he spoke in a way that said he had wisdom well beyond his years. He let himself relax a little and sit down in his own chair and listen to his advice, "Yeah, I guess that's part of the problem. When I paint I guess I try a little too hard to focus on what's concrete instead of what's in my mind...." It was his turn to scratch his own chin, "Even beginning art can reveal what's on your mind, huh...well, I guess I do have some stuff I been thinking about..." He looked his painting over more closely and felt a brief sense of nostalgia well up inside him, "...Sir, I come from an alternate Earth and as far as I know superhumans and aliens aren't exactly a part of everyday life there..." "If I were to go back home right now...I don't know, I guess i just feel that would cause way too much trouble...the thought of being the only person in your world with actual superpowers...a scenario like that seems great in some ways but I just get this feeling it could lead you down a very slippery slope very fast. I guess a part of me feels I can do more good here than back there, but..."
  12. Off in his own corner, a certain alien host sighed to himself as he finally put down his paint brush and pushed his chair back to better inspect his painting. In all honesty, he knew he could've done a lot worse, but than again, he could've done a lot better too. He'd used a little too much blue in the skyline and the buildings looked rather slanted too. At the very least he felt he had gotten the water and the lighting right. All and all, it was definitely one of his better works. He couldn't help but be just a little envious of those around him, whom seemed to have a much easier time getting into the flow when it came to painting than he did. As the professor packed up, he stood to go and head back to his apartment, hoping to spend some time catching up on a few video games....only to stop himself. Mr Lucas seemed to know what he was doing...maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask for some help. As such, he headed over and cleared his throat, "Ahem...um...Mr Lucas, sir? I was wondering if you could perhaps give me a few pointers in improving my painting skills, please?"
  13. It took the captive a few moments for what he was hearing to actually sink in. "...Seriously? That's what this is all about?" The young man didn't even bother to hide his growing annoyance, "You drugged me, put a bag over my head, somehow managed to seal my powers, stuffed me in what I'm sure is a moving vehicle that's likely dragging me off somewhere to get dissected, totally ruined my New Year's Eve...all because you got a little spooked of me and cause of your so-called "patriotism"?" He put air quotes around that last word to show just how little he was buying their excuses. "Well, I got news for you guys, despite how it may look I am NOT an alien!" He managed to shout through the sack covering his face. "I was experimented on by aliens, yes. I have an alien virus in my veins, yes....but I am NOT an alien!" The young man took a deep breath to compose himself, "Ok, let's pretend for a moment that you guys are right...so what? Even if I am, you have no right to treat me like this. I have rights...besides, I haven't hurt anybody...at least anybody who didn't deserve it...and I save people's lives on an almost daily basis! Tell me, when was the last time any of you got someone's cat out of a tree or helped an old lady across the street?" He looked side to side before sighing, "You know what? Forget it...just...let me off here...and I'll see to it that the League goes easy on yo-" However, he had no time to finish that line as he suddenly heard one of the men gurgling. "...Uh...is something the matter?" All of a sudden, he heard screaming and the sound of metal being seared through as something smashed out the wall behind him, sending him sprawling to the ground. It appeared this night had just gotten worst...for not just him but everyone involved. The young man somehow knew he didn't have a lot of time so he needed to act quick. He reached up to the bag and started fumbling with it to try and remove it....
  14. "Owww...my head..." The young man wearing the sack groaned as he finally awoke and returned to the waking world. Almost immediately though, he could feel himself wincing as a sharp pain went through his noggin. His thoughts were all in a mess, but the last thing he recalled was being at a tavern to celebrate New Year's Eve. He wondered if somebody had spiked the punch...but then his mind shifted to how that would knock him out considering what the virus had done to his biology. No, it would have to be pretty strong stuff to be able to knock him out for any period of time...which meant whomever had done it, had done so intentionally...not helping matters was the fact that there seemed to be something obscuring his vision and as he listened, it seemed that he was in some sort of moving vehicle, and the clanking of metal meant whomever had taken him was armed...and dangerous. He stayed quiet for a bit longer, both to get his bearings and to overhear what his captors were up to.John Adams. He would have to file that name away for later. Apparently, they had kidnapped him...for some reason, our hero wasn't really that perturbed about it. If anything, he was more annoyed than anything else. Chalk it up to that whole ordeal involving him being a captive on an alien ship and being experimented on but after an event like that this was actually more on the mild side. Finally, he decided it was time to say something. As such, he used what strength he had to lift his head up, "Umm...excuse me?...Who are you lot and...why did you kidnap me?" Keep calm. In situations like this it was important to maintain a level head and not let on they were getting to you.
  15. So far, the day had gone like normal for the displaced resident from the alternate Earth. Well, as normal as things could be when you were currently living on an version of your home planet where super-powered individuals were an everyday occurrence. Get up, get dressed, wash, eat breakfast, then get to his job. Grab a lunch break while reading the local newspaper. Work for a couple more hours and, if business was slow, take some time and go on patrol or make some meal runs. Hey, protecting an entire city was a tough job and, as amazing as many of this city's Heroes were, everybody needed a good meal to keep themselves fueled. After closing up for the evening, the young man had made his way down to the part of the city known as the Fens. From the rumors he had overheard, that place was usually a hive of trouble so he couldn't just stand by and do nothing. He may've been given these powers originally to be a weapon of mass destruction...but he alone would decide how to use it, and right now...there were people who needed his help. He walked down the sidewalk, hood up so as to not attract attention to himself and...well, being in this form helped keep him human. Just when he turned another corner though, police sirens wailed not far away making him stop...and then suddenly stumble as a loud explosion briefly shook the ground under his feet, "What the?!" Deciding this was a time to act and not stand around debating with himself, the man disappeared into a nearby alley and let his powers go to work. His entire body became covered in black with insectoid armour. A pair of optic lenses styled like a bug's were where his human eyes once were. Taking a running leap, he cleared several stories and landed on the roof of the building before taking off at high speeds towards the source of the noise.
  16. Player Name: GamerXZ Character Name: Quantum Shift Power Level: (10) (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: +/-0 Attack / +/-0 Damage, +/-0 Defense / +/-0 Toughness (or "None") Unspent Power Points: 0 Progress To Bronze Status: 0/30 In Brief: Once a normal comic book geek, now living the dream and trying his best to live up to his new responsibilities. Residence: An apartment building somewhere in Freedom City Catchphrase: "It's Hero Time" Alternate Identity: James White Birthplace: Alternate Earth Occupation: Cafe Worker Affiliations: None, except for possibly the other Heroes of Freedom City Family: His birth parents are deceased and he is uncertain of meeting his foster family's counterparts in this universe. Description: Age: 22 Years Old Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5 foot, 11 inches Weight: 210 Pounds Eyes: Brown Hair: Dark Brown Physical Description: James White is not what you would call a supermodel, but he isn't bad-looking by any means either. Standing about 5 foot, 11 inches, he has a certain blockiness to him with broad shoulders and a bit of chunkiness to his facial features. He is definitely a good example of a "Gentle Giant" despite being so young. He typically goes for casual wear, namely a blue short-sleeved shirt, black cargo pants, shoes, and a black and grey hoodie. As Quantum Shift, he is not truly limited to any one form and has the potential to take whatever shape he wishes. However, perhaps his most common form seems to be a black humanoid creature that wears a skin-tight suit of navy blue armor that blends aspects of insectoids and a dragon, along with more alien features. Power Descriptions: Being infected with a powerful Nanite Virus has altered the entire genetic makeup of Quantum Shift's body, granting him a range of superhuman abilities and assorted symbiote-based powers. This includes superhuman strength, agility, and endurance, which allow him to pull off physical feats not even conceivable for a human in peak physical condition. He also owns powerful regenerative capabilities and heightened sight and hearing, along with surviving extreme temperatures, immunity to aging, among other things. He also has incredibly potent and versatile morphing capabilities, being able to transform limbs into various types of weaponry like blades, claws, hammers, giant mechanized gauntlets, power drills, whip chains, maces, and more. He can also sprout wings for flight, transform his skin into a suit of armor for additional protection, among other feats that involve the warping of biomass. History: 22 years ago on one of the Alternate Earths, one mostly untouched by any presence of super-beings, James White was born. From an early age, it became apparent his childhood would not be an easy one. Growing up in a rundown and somewhat lawless neighbourhood was no picnic. Many folks distrusting one another and being paranoid too, even when nothing bad was happening. His parents were usually too busy fighting, arguing, going behind one another's backs, taking advantage of their son, to properly look after either their home or James. On top of this, Mr White was a frequent victim of bullying and harassment both around his home and throughout his school years.. Being the victim of such circumstances taught the young man some very harsh lessons about life. Namely he would have to learn to fend for himself, and that trust and respect was not something to be handed out to just anybody. However, the young lad also learned to appreciate what little he had and he gained a strong empathy for the suffering of others. As a result, he would typically go out of his way to stand up to bulles and other oppressors, defending those smaller and weaker than him. Although this made him very respectable in the eyes of some kids, many adults saw him as a troublemaker and a bad influence. Not everything about his childhood though was sad, as he was a bright student and excelled in school, and was admired for having a keen imagination and insight into how things worked. He also had a deep love of anything related to comics and superheroes. Those stories of heroics and daring rescues inspired the young man to do well in his own life, to live up to the examples set by his favorite heroes. Of protecting the innocent, fighting for a cause you believe in, and to make lives better, even if his idealism and values weren't always supported by reality. When he was around 10, his parents through a VERY messy divorce, which left quite a few mental scars on the boy, although after his father died in an accident, he was sent to live with a foster family and began to heal from the scars his childhood had left on him. Graduating with full honours and a scholarship, Mr White's next step in life was college, where he hoped he would eventually graduate and follow a career where his stories would be able to help people...of course, that's when destiny reared its head one summer night. While out camping with a few people from college, James was about to turn in for the night, when he heard noises coming from the woods. An inspection revealed it to be what looked like actual Aliens hoarding humans on board some sort of spacecraft. One of James buddies got the brilliant idea to whip out a camcorder and record the event. Before James had a chance to stop him though, the creatures spotted them and several gave chase. The gang split up and James, not able to see where he was going, was eventually caught and dragged inside the ship. When he tried to resist, one of the creatures knocked him out. Once he came to, he found himself in a room on what appeared to be an operating table along with dozens of other abducted individuals. A voice came over the intercoms, explaining that the humans had been selected for a "special project" that would transform them into powerful bio-weapons to fight for the aliens in Multi-Dimensional War Games. The aliens sought humans for their supposed unending potential for destruction and lust for killing that exceeded many other species, and thus having the best chance of drawing out the full potential of "The Project". One by one, each person was injected with a serum full of Alien Nanites. The results were...not pretty, to say the least. Most were mutated into all sorts of horrific beasts, or turned completely feral. What made James heart sink was hearing the cries of pain and despair as each one transformed and then was carted off, presumably to be sold off to the highest bidders. When it came time for his injection though, something different happened. James felt the nanite virus surge through his systems, bonding with his genetic structure, trying to overtake him, force him to give in to his animalistic urges...but he refused, he resisted. He tolerated the pain as his body became flushed with the virus, and leaving him barely conscious once complete but still himself. Surprised by this, his captors opted to keep him for further study. However, he would not have that. The host broke free of his restraints, knocked out his captors, and made a break for it, getting a first-hand experience with his new superhuman abilities along with powerful regeneration. Along with his shapeshifting abilities, James quickly realized that he had become exactly what his captors had hoped for: An immortal bio-weapon capable of mass destruction...the only setback? They hadn't had time to brainwash him into being their servant. Not wanting anyone else to suffer this kind of fate, James destroyed the core of the ship and left in an escape pod before being knocked unconscious on entering what looked like an unstable wormhole.... When he came to, he did so in time to be surrounded by what looked like human doctors who'd found his crash site. He fled...only to quickly realize he wasn't in his home dimension anymore. At least...not the same Earth he knew before. Some snooping around quickly revealed to him he had travelled to an Alternate Earth and within a place known as Freedom City. A place known for its large populace of superheroes. Needless to say, the poor man was quite overwhelmed by this, but also felt he'd been given a chance to do what he'd always dreamed of doing. But also to make up to those people he had been too powerless to save from the experiments. After getting in touch with the Freedom League, he struck a deal with them. Housing and a cover for his identity, and in exchange he would provide all the knowledge he had on his inter dimensional kidnappers, and agreed to mainly use his powers for helping people. Also, he agreed to pitch in if a major crisis occurred. After seeing the extent of his powers, the League labeled him with the hero name, Quantum Shift. Now he fights to help keep the city and Earth Prime safe, acknowledging he won't be getting home anytime soon for two reasons: Namely his new form means he will never live a quiet, peaceful life on his Earth as he will, supposedly, be one of the few superhumans in a world full of mostly ordinary people. Secondly, he feels he can do more to protect his home by staying..at least for the time being... Although in his heart, he knows that the invaders are still out there...and they'll be coming to take back what is theirs someday... Personality & Motivation: James White is not the kind of guy who likes being the center of attention, being rather modest and easily embarassed when given praise of any sort. He comes off as rather quiet and contemplative, even a little on the introverted side. Sometimes, this gives off the impression he shuns company or does not wish to connect with others. However, this is the furthest thing from the truth. In reality, those who talk to him quickly learn Mr White is kind-hearted and selfless to a fault, can carry a conversation and usually has something intelligent to say or discuss. Having grown up with a rather difficult childhood, Mr White has a strong sense of justice and responsibility, along with a powerful empathy for the suffering of others. He believes in doing the right thing, no matter the consequences and does not believe in EVER taking innocent lives for any reason. Despite his idealism and optimistic attitude, he is not entirely blind to the realities of the world, and will use whatever he must to protect the populace, even though he detests the very idea that "the ends justify the means". He does not give out his trust to just anybody either, usually needing a good reason to do so and knowing how easily it can be abused. He also has a powerful imagination which helps him with controlling his powers. He grew up with a love of comics and heroes, and wishes to live up to those ideals and values. Driven by a desire to ensure events like in his own past don't happen again, he uses his intellligence, wisdom, and his new virus friend to help protect Freedom City... Powers & Tactics: Thanks to his Virus-infused body, Quantum is quite versatile and can adapt to many situations, although his preference is more hand-to-hand combat. Being able to alter his shape freely means he is never short on options for battle or for doing his job. Even without his transformation abilities though, he is strong enough, fast enough, and durable enough to go toe-to-toe with other superhumans. He possesses a more rugged form of fighting but makes up for it by applying his intelligence and what he reads in books to the situation. Even with his powers and abilities though, he is far from invincible. For one thing, Quantum's regeneration is not instant, and for more severe wounds requires time to repair meaning a sustained assault of heavy artillery and powerful superhuman attacks should be enough to keep him down at least for a while. Also, certain applications of his powers require much concentration, meaning he is a bit of a sitting duck. Complications: Survivor's Guilt: Although he doesn't show it, Mr White still feels remarkably guilty over the fact that he survived the alien's experiments when so many others are as good as dead or will never see their home again. He also has the occasional nightmare of the victims crying out for salvation, asking why he never saved them, or of ones where he turns against his fellow heroes. Home Away From Home: Even if this is Earth, it is not HIS Earth, and as such James has some feelings of isolation when it comes to simply existing here. Even the prospect of meeting alternate counterparts to his foster parents unnerves him, partially due to how he feels they might react and if he even has the right to meet them. Acceptance: James has quickly learned that individuals wielding power over nanites have an, at best, lukewarm to cold reception. Although not met with fear, quite a few individuals are at least suspicious of him and whether he is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off at the worst possible moment. However, one of the reasons he became a hero was to prove that your powers don't determine whether you're a hero or not. It's your character and who you are as a person that determines that. As Quantum Shift, he is not truly limited to any one form and can take whatever shape he wishes. He also has incredibly potent and versatile Shapeshifting capabilities, being able to transform limbs into various types of weaponry like blades, claws, hammers, giant mechanized gauntlets, power drills, whip chains, maces, and more. He can also sprout wings for flight, transform his skin into a suit of armor for additional protection, among other feats that involve the warping of biomass. Entire body imitations are possible too but this uses up considerable energy to maintain. He tolerated the pain as his body became flushedwith the virus, and leaving him barely conscious once complete but still himself. Surprised by this, his captors opted to keep him for further study. However, he would not have that. The host broke free of his restraints, knocked out his captors, and made a break for it, getting a first-hand experience withhis new abilities including superhuman strength, agility, and endurance along with powerful regeneration. Along with his shapeshifting abilities, James quicklyrealized that he had become exactly what his captors had hoped for: An immortal bio-weapon capable of mass destruction...the only setback? They hadn't hadtime to brainwash him into being their servant. Not wanting anyone else to suffer this kind of fate, James destroyed the core of the ship and left in an escape pod before being knocked unconscious onentering what looked like an unstable wormhole.... When he came to, he did so in time to be surrounded by what looked like human doctors who'd found his crash site. He fled...only to quickly realize he wasn'tin his home dimension anymore. Now he fights to help keep the city and Earth Prime safe, acknowledging he won't be getting home anytime soon for two reasons: Namely his new form means he will never live a quiet, peaceful life on his Earth. Sometimes, this gives off the impression he shuns company or does not wish to connectwith others. However, this is the furthest thing from the truth. In reality, those who talk to him quickly learn Mr White is kind-hearted and selfless to a fault, can carry a conversation and usually has something intelligent to say or discuss. Having grown up with a rather difficult childhood, James has a strong sense of justice and responsibility, along with a powerful empathy for the suffering of others. He believes in doing the right thing, no matter the consequences and does not believe in EVER taking innocent lives for any reason. Despite his idealism andoptimistic attitude, he is not entirely blind to the realities of the world, and will use whatever he must to protect the populace, even though he detests the very idea that "the ends justify the means". He does not give out his trust to just anybody either, usually needing a good reason to do so and knowing how easily it can be abused. He also has a powerful imagination which helps him with controlling his powers. He grew up with a love of comics and heroes, and wishes to live up to those ideals and values. Driven by a desire to ensure events like in his own past don't happen again, he uses his intellligence, wisdom, and his new nanite friends to help protect Freedom City... Powers & Tactics: Thanks to his Nanite-infused body, Quantum is quite versatile and can adapt to many situations, although his preference is more hand-to-hand combat. Complications: Survivor's Guilt: Although he doesn't show it, James still feels remarkably guilty over the fact that he survived the alien's experiments when so many others are as good as dead or will never see their home again. He also has the occasional nightmare of the victims crying out for salvation, asking why he never saved them, or of ones where he turns against his fellow heroes. Home Away From Home: Even if this is Earth, it is not HIS Earth, and as such James has some feelings of isolation when it comes to simply existing here.Even the prospect of meeting alternate counterparts to his foster parents unnerves him, partially due to how he feels they might react and if he even has theright to meet them. Acceptance: James has quickly learned that individuals wielding power over nanites have an, at best, lukewarm to cold reception. Although not met with fear, quite a few individuals are at least suspicious of him and whether he is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off at the worst possible moment. However, one of thereasons he became a hero was to prove that your powers don't determine whether you're a hero or not. It's your character and who you are as a person that determines that. Abilities: 18 + 12 + 16 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 54 PP Strength: 28 (+9) Dexterity: 22 (+6) Constitution: 26 (+8) Intelligence: 14 (+2) Wisdom: 12 (+1) Charisma: 12 (+1) Powers (All Powers: Nanites) All of Quantum's powers are as a result of the alien nanites running through him, and as a result he falls into the Technological Descriptor.
