Mysteries Infinite: Under a Crimson Glow [IC]

Cannonade took a look at the burning building around him. He could try putting out the flames... but with the others in here, that might be even more of a security risk. As long as the elemental stood, targeting the fires with a gust of breath would have more risk than reward.

So he did what he could. He picked up a desk and brought it down on the thing's head. "Just go out already, will ya?" he shouted.

The Fire Elemental raises both of its arms into the air, angered at both Momentum and Cannonade as they repeatedly enter the elemental's range. You can feel the area get physically hotter as it gathers its rage for an unstoppable attack.

The gathering power, however daunting, gives you all an opening. The desk, combined with the gravitational power of Dyne's attack, slam down full force on the elemental, who hisses as the fire again gets smothered. Immediately, the air cools down and the motionless form of the living, solid flame lies on the floor, completely unconscious. You are victorious!

...But the problem isn't over. Even as it lies on the floor, its fire does not extinguish, and where it lays, new flames grow. The entirety of the fifth and sixth floor are ablaze!

Sputtering even in the wake of the flaming fiend's collapse as smoke and fire fill the office building again, Momentum can't help but struggle to stifle some sort of corny one-liner given the apparent victory over the jerk who'd socked him good only moments prior. Now this new inferno was in danger of engulfing the building the group had so valiantly fought to preserve! Besides, Noah didn't particularly care for the idea of having a building collapse on top of him due to structural compromise.

"Someone do something!" Momentum cries to the crew of assembled superheroes, a hand covering his mouth as he coughs lightly through the smoke. Even as the teen hero inquired for aid, he was already fumbling about in search of his lost fire extinguisher, perhaps the only worthwhile tool Noah had been sharp enough to pick up before getting himself wrecked upstairs. If nothing else, he could at least help.

The fire extinguisher was indeed still there, sitting on the Fifth floor where the battle with the fire elemental had taken place. The metal parts of the extinguisher were quite hot to the touch, but the fire has not had a chance to render the device inoperable.

With the protective powers that the heroes command and a little creative use with the fabrics at hand, Momentum is armed once again against the fire. Unfortunately, unlike the massive sprinkler system that has since been destroyed, there may not be enough material left in the previously-used extinguisher to thwart two whole floors of flames!

Cannonade stepped forward. "Everyone get back!" he said. "I don't wanna see anyone get blown out of the building."

He quickly scanned the fire, trying to determine the source of the blaze. Once he did, he ran to the exposed side of the building, poked his head out, and drew a deep breath of fresh air -- the last thing he wanted for what he was about to try was lungs full of smoke. Then, he turned back, locked eyes on the fire, and exhaled with the force of a hurricane.

So, snuffed him out at last! Supercape breathed out with relief. He desperately wanted to see what on earth that creature was, and floated nearer the... thing .... but the building was now ablaze and the heat was unbearable, despite his forcefield.

Damn.

At least there were no people in there. Looking at the building, there didn't seem to be an awful lot to save, but fires could spread. It was out of his league anyway. He sped off to the crowd and hovered above them.

"Careful, citizens. Fire hazard over there. We need emergency services to do their job. Should be safe now, but keep your distance, the building could come down at any time!"

As the fires grow larger, Dyne floats nearby. Dangit, fire is one of the few threats I'm unable to handle directly. Not even gravity can halt the reaction of extreme heat plus flammable substance... Thinking for a moment, Dyne suddenly gets an idea. He quickly scans for anything that could either contain water, or be used to carry water.

Cannonade's efforts are met with a lot of success, as the entirety of the fifth floor is blown out. With no floors below it on fire, its likely the fifth floor will not catch fire again. Furthermore, the Fire elemental's flame burns out, leaving nothing but an orb where once a giant, living inferno once laid. With the creature incapable of sustaining the flame will unconscious, the fire does not spring anew!

The Sixth floor is still ablaze, however. This floor will be much more difficult to access, as the hole in the side of the building only exposes a little of the floor. There are holes in the floor, of course, but they won't be much use for using one's super-breath.

Supercape meets with less success. Where a lively crowd should be, the mass of people stand and simply stare at the crimson dome. They do not run away from the blaze for their life. They do not celebrate the fire's inevitable defeat. They do not even watch the proceedings. With the exception of your colleagues, everyone seems to be in a horrid, unshakable trance.

You do not yet hear sirens either. It's difficult to say if emergency services has been summoned yet or not.

Supercape looked at the crowd with an open jaw. They seemed to be hypnotised by the pretty flames, like cave men who had just discovered the nice hot orange light. He hoped they still knew fire hot.

Flying back to the blazing building, that miraculously still stood (for how much longer was anybodies guess), he called out to the other heroes.

"Any one feeling Strong? we need to get the river onto these flames!"

With a moments concentration, a shimmering crystal lattice of quantum matter had formed in the river, a huge tank with a flumed end. In effect, it was a massive watering can, slopping full of the cities water.

"Just don't ask me to move it!"

The newly-created vessel fills itself with water and sits a stone's throw away from the building. Unfortunately, the water-filled tank is extremely heavy - too heavy for any normal person to carry - coming close to 2000 pounds of sheer watery weight. Between Dyne's water tank and this new resource, there should be more than enough water to extinguish the last of the fires... if they can be utilized properly!

Cannonade lunged towards the crystalline structure. After searching for some sort of purchase, he slipped his hands under it... then, with great care, managed to lift it up off the ground. He perched it on his shoulders, for a second looking like Atlas holding aloft the earth -- if the earth were an overgrown watering can.

"Just give me the directions!" he said, looking downwards. "I think I'd send this stuff out onto the street if I tried to get a good look!"

Even looking down on the street, the general direction wasn't too hard to figure out, as the heat from the flames was radiating out of the building dramatically, even after the stalwart amount of firefighting your team members have done. The real trick will be getting the water to the right height when Cannonade arrives at the scene. Too low, and the water will miss the fire completely. too high, and the water will splash off the side of the building rather than going for the fire's core, wasting your efforts!
