1. Right next to the bowling alley on the first floor they found what was probably one of the few remaining arcades in the city. There were still some coin-up games and four amazingly detailed flippers, but the bulk of the room hosted six pool tables. Only two were occupied, so Serge and Subito took up the sticks and started playing. But they had barely begun the game that a series of loud crashes took their attention. Two boys about the same age of the Claremont duo were pounding at the screens of two powered-down coin-up videogames, their fists starting to get bruised and bloodied against the slick black screen. “F@#£ you, I’ll kill you! who do you think you are?†they were screaming nonsensical menaces at the screens, which were starting to crack. At the same time a cleaning lady started screaming and backing away from a pool of water she made on the polished floor “She’s in there! Help, she’s there! It can’t be!†she was pointing at the pool of water. The patron of the arcade, instead of helping his customers deal with those nutcases, was too busy looking at his own reflection in the mirror behind the counter, combing his hair and actively, and loudly, complimenting himself on his good looks. Security was coming in, but something definitely wasn’t right… Stuart was pretty pleased at the big sale he just made with Subito, and was going back to his section of the store when the short man who quarreled with his own image in the mirror snapped and attacked his own reflection. He slammed a dumbbell into the mirror, destroying it and screaming threats at his own image. Security escorted him out, but Stuart was worried: this is Freedom City, and behind weird behaviors usually there was danger…
2. Wow this guy knows more than I do! Stuart was left a bit startled by the the young client's display of fitness equipment knowledge. "S-sure, man." he stuttered "Just-just let me check what we have in storage." At least the punching bag was in his usual area of competence. "You can see our bags right there, we have the 100-pound, we also have the floor-locked one." Then he typed into the desk computer what he could remember from the sequence of products and acronyms that he was supposed to check. "Was it a PVLP 140... no, 156X, right? Yes, we still have a couple left. And those other products too, it seems." he checked every item, always fearing to get a name wrong. He was distracted for just a second by a short man who, apparently, was arguing with his reflected image in a full-body mirror. But another clerk offered to help him and the man gave a puzzled look at the mirror before asking for shoes. Stuart's and Subito's looks crossed and Stuart nodded towards the eccentric man, smiling as to say "oh those crazy crazy customers...". "How would you like to procede for the payment and the delivery of the machines?" asked instead. Serge had finished his beverage and was growing a bit restless. The twenty minutes were pretty much up and Subito was probably still stuck in the store. Even people-watching was getting stale: the couple passing by now had already crossed the court a while ago. That old guy in the blue jacket had been trying on glasses, continuosly, for the last ten minutes at least: he put on the first pair, turned to the mirror mechanically, barely even checking his reflection, than put the glasses back and proceeded with the next pair. He was almost done with the second display case. The cleaning lady was staring at the same pool of water as five minutes ago, as if she was trying to make it evaporate. All in all, different mall, same weirdos.
3. Ok, I'll need a Notice check. DC 20 for Heraldo and G-Stunt, DC 15 for Net Fly who's less busy. 1d20+9 → [9,9] = (18) aaand G-Stunt fails his first roll ever. Good.
4. Of course! Why ask the fitness guys about fitenss equipment when you can ask the martial arts guy! thought a mildly annoyed Stuart at the young man's question. He tried to mantain his smile, but it probably shifted towards a tired grin There's Jeffrey and Tina, but he asks m... he looked towards the fitness section. Jeffrey was nowhere to be seen while Tina was juggling the questions of no less than four beefcakes trying to hit on her while asking questions about dumbells. Smooth. "Ok, man, let's go see some machines." at least he could drop the "sir": the customer wasn't probably even twenty years old. He navigated Subito in the crowd, landing a couple of free square feet near a benchpress. "So, I guess you'd like to see some benches and maybe barbells? Or would you like to see actual machines for home fitness? We have everything, from legpresses to pilates machines..." the young man looked positively buff for his age, maybe was going for an even more imposing look. Serge was expecting the twenty minutes Subito promised to get amplified by the crowd. Even to get a beverage he had to wait several minutes. In the food court! He was tempted for a second to go into the Hi-Tech store, but the people crammed together in the hallway made him rethink that move. He sipped his orangeade slightly bored, trying to cross gazes with one of the many girls hanging around.
5. OOC for this thread G-Stunt, Heraldo and Net Fly have to stop a heist in the Millenium Mall.
6. Friday, November 5th, 2011 6:50 PM The twilight had already give in to the night and the Millenium Mall shone covered in neon and lightbulbs. The speakers played pop hits of the last summer separated by the occasional promotion and annoying corny radio commercials. The Halloween decorations of three-story high atrium in the middle of the building had already been removed, but the ropes to held them in place were still there, hanging sadly while waiting to be filled with giant cardboard turkeys or pilgrim hats. Plenty of customers were still hurrying from store to store in the 9-block shopping complex: the hallways were packed full of people holding shopping bags, pressed against the railings, clearly trying to profit from the last minutes of opening time before the crowd of the weekend. Apparently half of those customers were at Triathlon, or so it seemed to Stuart. He was making his fair share of commissions, but his head was about to explode. The large sports and martial arts store occupied almost a third of the second floor in the Starbase building and it seemed that all of the sports fans were making their Christmas shopping early. He just sold a pair of tacky yellow boxing shoes that combined with decent footwork were likely to turn the opponent blind. Now this girl was complaining because the white judogi didn’t make her figure “popâ€. To hell with patrolling the rooftops tonight he thought my head is pounding so hard I’ll probably get my butt handed to me by a Max junkie! He turned to the next customer “Hello! I’m Stuart. How may I help you sir?â€
7. This new information lowers the DC of Current Events at 15, and since Steam can proably take 10, I'd say it's passed. You may now look at the spoiler half a dozen posts above.

"What... yeah, 't was Friday night, 'f course I was here. Wouldn't be that good for PR 'f I didn't show up for the big night of the week, don't you think?" she kept rubbing her eyes, trying to make them stay open. Her corneas were rapidaly growing red. She gave Steam an oblique look that probably meant who the hell are this fre...colorful characters?, took another sip of coffee, shrugged and kept talking. "The bouncers... yeah, I'll have to look up the sheet, but on Friday 'nd Saturday they 're pretty much all here. 'Nd thank Heavens, y'know, because there was some ruckus, I think with one super-powered folk... they keep popping up where there's trouble! Some guy wearing a vest of some sort of shell, I don't remember... he was bothering the 'mbassador 'nd her date, 'f I recall correctly. Got 'im thrown out. We don't get people like the 'mbassador that often, y'know? Gotta treat them well, good for the PR." Hearing the word "ambassador" moved something in Lord Steam's mind, something that had been bothering him since the ritual ended.

Presentation! [IC]

Weaver smiled under the scarf that covered his mouth another potential ally lost to air sickness... sigh! he scouted the scene, making sure there was nothing else to be done in the next few moments. The police would certainly clean up the scene, but he and the two other heroes should definitely go after the last man-beast. "No problem, my friend! Just hang on tight and I'll get you back in a second." He gave Arug the mental impulse and the carpet sprinted towards the van. "I shall take the sky to locate the path of our fugitive and avoid losing sight of him," said Weaver while they landed "should we keep a communication channel open, or do you have a way of following me without?" he waved his cellphone at her with an interrogative look.
10. Ok, in case you guys were a bit uncertain about what happens next: the Feral thug is running away, and chasing him is certainly an option. The combat per se is over, unless Asad wants to do somke overkill on the goons in the van. Police is securing the bridge and arresting all the subdued criminals you left in your path. I'd say we can abandon the Initiative order (again, only if Asad is done with the gunmen), so if you want to do a couple of social posts (remember that Talking is a free action, so the Thug won't get too far). Otherwise ON with the chase!
11. spending Weaver's 3 points from october * +1 to his Fort save, now it's +7 [+3 con, +4] (1 pp) * gained Quick Change as an Enhanced feat under Powers (which I'm ashamed he didn't have from the start, given the concept)(1 pp) * gained one more rank of Sidekick, 13 to 14 (1 pp) so Arug gains 5 points, from 65 to 70 * +2 to Strength; already adjusted the Loads entries under Super-strength, the Grapple bonus and the DC block (2 pp) * +2 each to Notice and Stealth (1 pp) and so now Arug is at 68/70 pp spent. Also I corrected a typo in Weaver's DC block: the Fort-based damage has a DC of 25, not 20, becuase the Alternate Save Extra keeps 15 as base DC. Bare-chested, he shows long and thin muscles that wouldn’t be out of place in a middle-distance runner. His hair is black and curly, and he keeps it fairly short to hide the already receding hairline; he also sports a full and well-trimmed beard and moustache. In his civilian persona, he wears standard casual suits, favoring grey and earth-tones, usually with band-collar shirts. He fakes a thick Persian accent, mimicking the way his father talks, though English is his native language. As a professional art retailer he knows very well how to read his interlocutor expression and how to pitch a product; he’s a pretty smooth talker, especially when selling his works. His super-hero costume is composed of several layers of loose, vaguely oriental-looking clothes, with a large cape and several scarves floating around his neck and arms. He wears a cowl, and a scarf covers his mouth and nose. The costume is mostly dark blue, with burgundy and golden inserts. He speaks a perfect, inflection-free English. Arug (pronounced AH-RUG) is a very fancy and thick Persian carpet, with geometric decorations and the same color pattern of his master, about 8’ x 6’. He shouldn't be holding a whip but a scarf... but somehow Herofactory doesn't think a scarf is a plausible hero weapon  Another, more detailed drawing with HeroMachine 3

Power Descriptions: Saeid has total control over fabric and cloth of any kind: he can move them around, imbue a semblance of magic life in clothes and carpets. His hands glow faintly in the color of the object he is controlling in said moment. History: Saeid is a second-generation immigrant from Urmia, western Iran. His parents were one of the few families of Sunni Muslims in a prevalent Shi'ite community, and they moved to Freedom City in 1977. They settled in a very low-rent apartment between Greenbank and the West End. The Ashoubi had a proud tradition as weavers of fine traditional Persian carpets, and it took them little time to find their niche in the growing art and interior design scene of a metropolis like Freedom. They weren’t rich, but managed to give their two children a nice enough childhood and a decent education, and to keep them safe from the criminals of the Greenbank as well as the many crisis that Freedom seems to attract, like the Terminus invasion. The Ashoubis always had a way with looms and fabric, very nimble fingers and a special eye for patterns, but it wasn’t until young Saeid entered the family business, once he completed high-school, that the gift really manifested itself. Where his father could move the threads as he liked with just the tip of his fingers, Saeid could literally make the threads dance just with a gaze. His powers grew with the years, the more he spent weaving, the more his control over fabric and cloth became strong and precise. Any plan he had of joining the many crimefighters of Freedom were put on hold when he fell in love (and after a few years married) Jamina, a smart Egyptian girl who was majoring in Business management with his sister at Freedom College. Saeid had always been involved with the community, helping to resolve disputes between the several minorities of the West End, but it took two very distinct events, between few days of distance, to make a real super-hero out of him. The first was his sister’s wedding to the Irish Jonah Kavanagh. After years spent discussing with her parents to let them accept a marriage outside the Islamic community, a lot of public relations between the two communities, Masoumeh finally got the ceremony she wanted… when the two families started a riot, accusing each other of corrupting their culture. The riot lasted what seemed like hours, and ended only when Siren and Daedalus overcome the Purger aka Will Montgomery, an ignorant and racist man who, in order to impress his idol White Flame, got mind-controlling and hate-spreading powers from Mr. Infamy. By the time Montgomery was sent to Blackgate and the two heroes explained to the families what happened, the ceremony was ruined, three people were dead and Jonah had sustained an injury so dire that he was forced on a wheelchair. Saeid had worked so hard to give her sister a nice life, mediating between the two families, and now everything was ruined because of some idiot with powers. The second event was the “birth†of Arug. When practicing his powers, one night Saeid managed to imbue true life into a wonderful carpet he weaved a few days before. It wasn’t simply animated: it moved and communicated just like a pet. Intentioned to understand his powers and make good use of them, Saeid approached Sallah at the local mosque. The aide of Adrian Eldritch agreed to help him and booked him an appointment with the Master Mage. Under the tutelage Sallah and with occasional help form Eldritch, Saeid learned how to properly use his powers. For a couple of years now he patrolled the neighborhood, but maybe he’s ready to step up and join the major crime-fighters of Freedom… Personality & Motivations: A rational and pacific man at heart, Saeid has the characteristics of a good mediator. He enjoys a good reputation as a successful businessman and artist, and as a man involved with the social issues of his city. A lifetime of selling his products gave him a good understanding of people, and if it wasn’t for the family, the business (and that darn the hero thing) taking up so much time, he could probably become a half-decent political or social figure. He learned in the worst possible way that he must use ALL his gifts to help the community, not only those who he understands and is comfortable with. After two years, he is pretty confident with his magic, though he hasn’t tried to bring true life into another inanimate object. His first priority is to defend his family and neighbors but after every lesson with Sallah and Eldritch he understands his powers a little better and is ready to confront something stronger. Powers & Tactics: So far Saeid has mostly operated keeping his neighborhood safe form criminals, more than fighting super-villains. His modus operandi involves sneaking on his adversaries using Subtle flight and his stealth skill, then flapping scarves around their eyes (Obscure) while he or his magic carpet rescue the victim of the ill-intentioned. If forced into a fight, he takes control of the enemy’s clothes, tightening them around the limbs (Snare) or, if he’s really pissed, around the throat (Suffocating Damage). If the adversaries aren’t wearing suitable clothes (as in: naked or wearing battle-armor or such), Weaver’s costume provides enough scarves and capes to throw at them. He is also well-versed in confounding enemies by moving pieces of his costume where he isn’t (feinting, distract, redirect). Arug's primary role is transportation, with its massive strength it can carry a lot of weight. In combat, Weaver instructs it to take bystanders to safety first, then to tackle minions, by sneaking up on them and starting a grapple. If it has to fight face to face, it usually swooshes close to the ground (Prone Fighting) to enhance his defense. It communicates with Saeid by simple few-words empathic sentences, as in “danger left!†or “all safe, go!â€.

Complications: Secret Identity: Six persons know about Saeid powers and second life: his parents, his sister, his wife, Adrian Eldritch and Sallah. He’s trying really hard not to make this number grow. Family man: both his wife and his parents still work at the carpet store with him, the father helping with the weaving and the women overlooking the economic side; with a baby on the way, a family business relying mostly on him and his efforts in the community, sometimes the super-hero life stretches him too thin. Prejudice: even in the modern and open-minded Freedom, muslims and middle-eastern people find ignorant persecutors… and that’s without counting maniacs like White Knight. How did I do that?: his powers are relatively new. He knows next to nothing about magic, even if Sallah and Eldritch are teaching him. Never in the Big Leagues: Saeid mostly fought common criminals and low-level super-villains. He still has to face one of the terrible menaces that pop up so commonly in Freedom. Whiplash [PL10]

Hi! you messed up a bit the formatting in the powers section. The AP goes inside the device, not outside. It is a feat for the powers the device gives you, not a feat for the device itself. The device costs 9 pp, and it should read something like this: Device 3 (whip; 15 pp of powers; easy to lose) [9 pp] Whip attacks array (PF: alternate power) BP: Snare AP: Strike The base DC for saves other than Toughness is 10, not 15. So the DC for her Snare is 17, not 22. Also, I don't get it, where does the Drain Strength come from? her saving throws (Toughness aside) are unbelievably high. Seriously, those are the ST of a PL 15 character. Most characters have ST that average out between PL -2 and PL -1, so in this case 8 or 9. Hers average out at 13.6! I don't think that's frowned upon, but it is a bit wasteful: you can take easily away 8 or 10 points and use them elsewhere, and still have amazing saves. You may want to look into the Acrobatic bluff feat and the Skill mastery feat, those seem like good fit to the character. also, but this is just a consideration of personal taste: a costumed adventurer needs a grapple-gun! or some other kind of super-movement, or a rank of Speed and Leap (with the Training descriptor, of course)... just something to make her move faster than the average bystander. The motorcycle is cool, but what about a struggle on the rooftops?

A uniformed cop arrived and whispered something in the ear of a still embarrassed Detective Beck. He nodded, then talked to the trio. “We called the club’s owner, she is on her way. If you’d like to lead her interrogation, she may be able to direct us towards the bouncers or the client you saw.†He had just finished talking that a navy blue Ford sedan stopped by the yellow tape. A tall woman in her forties, with long, messy black hair and fair skin got out of the car, sipping from a large cup of coffee. Her heavy frame was dressed in jeans and loose-fitting white sweater; huge bags under her eyes and trailed steps bore witness of heavy lack of sleep. “Here I am, detective.†She mumbled while massaging her temples “I just left this place two hours ago. What is it?â€

Something Fishy

The doubts and questions were cut short when Leviathan pronounced the last word of his litany. What just a second before was a quiet alley where the earliest sunlight insinuated itself to provide a relaxing illumination suddenly changed. It was night again, and the thin clouds illuminated from the back by an almost full moon created eerie grey spots in the black sky. Light got into the alley from the main street, full of lampposts and neon insignias from the clubs. Now people were passing by the main street, and if one of them threw a glance into the alley he saw it empty. The air filled with sounds: chatter and laughter echoed as if they were underwater, an off-tone acoustic guitar trying to produce Oasis’ Wonderwall deprived of most of its charm, the occasional shattering of glass, loud and sudden. All three pair of eyes had a bit of a hard time adjusting to the situation: whatever was at the borders of their visual field appeared covered in pearly smoke, but no matter how much they turned around, the smoke seemed to elude them and hide behind their backs. They stood in front of the door of the nightclub, besides the pile of garbage bags, and it was open: the sound of Celtic music was pouring out. No less than five bouncers, all bearing the marks of a fight with an Atlantean war prince, stood near the frame of the door, looking at the Atlantean on the ground. Their voices were almost incomprehensible, but their body language clearly indicated rage and spite for the man. The door shut, and the Atlantean rose from the ground, cleaning the dirt from his breastplate and cursing in his native tongue. “I’m sorry…†a female voice made the Atlantean turn. The door opened and closed once more and a woman in her early forties came out. She had made an effort to look good: freshly dyed hair and casual but expensive clothes. “We asked youuuussshhsslsewhere.†The voices weren’t easily understandable with the distortion caused by the spell. “I’m the heir of Ahdahr. I’ll do assshhhssease.†The anger was clear in the eyes of the man “This matter isn’t oveeeeehhhr.†The woman got closer, reaching out with her arm as to touch the Atlantean “I’m sorry…†she kept saying. When she got near him, she touched his arm. He yanked it out of her grasp and turned her back on her. In the weird light, the three investigators could only see a flash of metal: then, without a word, the man fell to the ground, blood gushing out of his pierced breastplate. The woman quickly hid a shining blade in her purse and hurried back into the door. “AAAAACHOOO!†Suddenly it was day again, the sounds disappeared, the eyes of the three heroes were sore. Leviathan turned his gaze to detective Beck, holding a Kleenex to his nose “Ah’m soddy…†the policeman said.
19. sorry. I just made her say a sentence: it had the goal of putting IC the idea of the GM fiat/hero point, when you should hit but unexplicably don't. If it's out of character for her to talk to Weaver, I'll edit right now. Again, I'm sorry, but I'm trying to write IC posts organically and I thought that line could fit. No intention whatsoever of puppetting.
20. ok, so, the Thug is running All-Out, and he arrives at the end of the bridge... where exciting new action awaits! the two foamed thugs you can forget, they are firmly in the hands of the police. Asad is still holding the remaining 3 Catalyst, unharmed, 3 HP (the van has -1 TOU) Asad, unharmed, 1 HP, still kind of in the middle of something Weaver, unharmed, 1 HP Tiger truck Bound helplessly; 1 Feral Thug, unharmed, on the run 3 Soldiers with Cover in the Bear truck, unharmed (truck has -1 tou), but Slowed due to feeling akin to dices in the cupped hands of a player.

The last remaining thug tightened his grasp around the precious cargo dangling below his mouth and kept running. When Catalyst shot at him, the pepper filled up his nostrils and eyes, and it took all his concentration not to yell in pain and keep his jaw serrated on the object. “I was certain one of us got him!†lamented Weaver “And rarely these scumbags possess such steely nerves to rip off so fast my attacksâ€. He avoided acrobatically Asad’s mass between him and the highway, then gained even more speed as he ran in a straight line to the end of the bridge.

"Gentlemen, I suppose you'll be able to deal with those grotesque criminals" Weaver said to the police who just now caught up with the battle, indicating at the two foamed up criminals "My teammates and I shall stop the others too! My friend, hold on tight!" he yelled at Catalyst before bending a knee and grasping the border of the carpet. He made sure that the paintball gun sniper did the same and gave Arug the mental command. The carpet flew quick above the scene of the showdown, and when they were right above Asad and the thug, Weaver threw one of his scarves at the man-beast. The scarf wrapped itself perfectly around the target's neck, but just when the hero was starting to tighten it to apply a chokehold, the thug clawed at the fabric and tore it off, leaving rags behind him as he continued his run.
23. ok, so Weaver is gonna fly above the Thug and try to suffocate him with his Suffocating damage 1d20+10 →[12,10] = (22) it's a hit! Toughness DC 25 1d20+8 → [17,8] = (25) wow, it's a tough tiger thug! he is unharmed.
24. ok, the Thug in the previous round used his move action to get away 250 feet, so it's a -8 for Catalyst. 24-8=16 the Thug's defense is only 12 so hit! Stun: fortitude DC 17 1d20+8 → [3,8] = (11) ok, the Thug would be out, but I'm gonna use a Fiat to let him get away. Catalyst gains a HP. Asad is up.

The roof window of the tiger truck opened before the foam could reach it, and not with some difficulty, the last thug climbed out. He held something under his arm, an irregular object slightly bigger than a basketball. He flexed his powerful leg muscles and jumped over the foam cloud still expanding. He bit one of the handles on the strange object, went down on four legs and started running quicker than a cat, jumping acrobatically left and right in the traffic to avoid cars, claws gripping the asphalt, moving fast towards the end of the bridge. As Asad kept the truck on his shoulders, he could hear the thugs screaming through a radio “compromisekzzsh… one of those… yeah, towards you! Sendkzschh… soon or she won’tzzzsch!†Only one of the thugs was in condition of shooting, and his bullets were once again wasted on the bulletproof chest of the billionaire hero. The two poor beast-men entrapped in the foam kept struggling to no result.
