20 Questions 1. Where is your hero from? Quintessence is originally from Connecticut. He moved to Freedom City soon after acquiring his powers. 2. How would your hero physically describe himself? Is this different from how others would? Quintessence is a large man. He has an extremely muscled physique. He has pale white skin which never seems to tan, light brown hair that is cut close to his scalp. Even though Quintessence is such a large man he still moves with the grace of a dancer or gymnast. 3. Does your hero have distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms? Quintessence has a New England accent. He has no other speech anomalies. 4. What is your hero's motivation? Quintessence feels he has a responsibility to use his powers to help others. Even without powers he had been planning on a career where he could help people. He could not see himself doing anything else after growing up with his father as an example. 5. What are your hero's greatest strengths and weaknesses? Quintessence’s greatest strength is his sense of purpose. He is determined and does not let anything stand in his way. His greatest weakness is inexperience. He is young and does not have much experience. 6. What does your hero love? What does your hero hate? Quintessence loves the people he protects. Always in his mind is what he can do to help the people that he lives and works with. Quintessence hates a bully. Whether it be an opportunistic thug preying on the weak, of a super villain attacking a crowd of innocents he cannot stand the sight of a bully. 7. How would you describe your character's mental and emotional state? Quintessence has had some trauma and sadness in the past. The death of his parents made him angry and driven to find out everything he could about Aliens. He is fast to anger, but he does not lose his temper easily. 8. What does your hero fear the most? Quintessence’s greatest fear is the inability to protect those close to him. He is terrified that he will fail to protect his sister, because his sister is all the family he has left. 9. What is your character's greatest ambition? Quintessence hopes to become an example of his moral ideals. He wants to inspire people to become more than they think they can be. 10. How does your hero feel about the state of the world and his/her place in it? Quintessence thinks the world has problem, but there is only so much he can do about it. No matter how powerful a single person is he cannot save the world by himself. The most he can hope to do is help whenever he can. 11. Does your hero have any prejudices? How does he/she get along with others? Quintessence has two prejudices. He has a small obsession with aliens, since the death of his parents during the crash of an alien space ship. He also goes hard on bullies. He cannot stand people who pick on the week. 12. Where do your heroes loyalties lie? In what order? Quintessence’s loyalty is as follows. His sister Jennifer is his top priority, Followed by any innocents. Then his team members come after innocents and then any villains. Evryone needs to be protected, even if it is from themselves. 13. Does your hero have a lover or partner? How do they feel about the hero now? Quintessence has never had a serious girlfriend, and since he has acquired his powers he has been reluctant to become involved with anyone. 14. Does your hero have a family? What is the relationship there like? Quintessence has a sister. She is his only remaining family. Their relationship is on good terms. Jennifer is only one year younger them him, they live together in a small two bedroom apartment in The Fens. They are very close, but she does not know about his secret identity. 15. How would the people closest to your hero describe him or her? Most people would say James is a quiet man. He tries not to draw attention to himself. His alternate identity has a different personality. He feels less restrained when in costume. He is more outgoing and does not feel the need to restrain himself. 16. Is your hero a role model? Yes, everything he does he does in mind of the message it sends. He tries to uphold the highest moral standards, even if he does not always succeed. When he fails he picks himself up and tries to do better next time. 17. How spiritual is your hero? Does your hero follow a religious tradition? Quintessence was raised catholic, but he is currently lapsed. He does not follow any particular religion. 18. Is your hero part of a team, or would he/she like to be? Why? Quintessence is not currently part of a team, but he would be interested in a membership. He feels he would have a lot to offer in a team that can complement his abilities. 19. How does your hero feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth? Quintessence believes that metahumans are people. They have the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else. Aliens are a harder topic for Quintessence. He has to take each one as they come. He is angry for the role an alien had in the death of his parents, but he does not hold all aliens responsible. 20. If you could give one piece of advice to your hero, what would it be? Do not hold yourself responsible for everything that you fail to stop. Do what you can, but don’t put too much on yourself.

Gather Information DC 10: Quintessence is a Hero who works mostly in the Downtown area of Freedom City. DC 15: Quintessence is invulnerable to physical damage, super strong and can fly. DC 20: Quintessence has an obsession with information about Aliens. DC 30: Quintessence has been see flying out of various locations in the Fens before responding to emergencies. Streetwise DC 10: Quintessence operates most often between the North End and the Fens. DC 15: Quintessence is especially hard on criminals who hurt or endanger law enforcement personnel. DC 25: Quintessence is rumored to be a student at FCU.

What the heck I am feeling quite heroic at the moment. My very heroic effort fives me a stunning...19! Gasp!

Looking around for threats and seeing only Mr. Mist standing Quintessence Fly's over to the big lamp the mist came out of. Taking a grasp of the bottom edge of the lamp Quintessence heaves it up and slams it down in the direction of Mr. Mist with all his strength. "Take that you wind bag! No evil can stand before the forces of good. God what a lame line! I need to get better at this witty banter. Get it together man. " Quintessence says. After attacking Quintessence moves to stand between Mr. Mist and the departing crowd.

Well since I am virtually useless against an insubstantial character, I will fly over to the Lamp Mr. Mist is near, then I will smash it down on top of r. Mists head. Not that it will probably have any effect on him but It may shed some light on what is happening and why. Hopefully there is something inside besides a hiding place for Mr. Mist. My attack to hit Mr. Mist with a giant lamp. 13! If that happens to hit by some miracle, the toughness DC is 25.

I am a new Hero who is currently in my first thread. I am having a lot of fun. I do not think I am up to running my own thread yet, but I would like to get a bit more experience. I was hoping someone was thinking about trying about starting a thread. If you have never GMed a thread before but have been thinking about it, or If you have an idea for something that I would fit into please PM me or post here. I am very patient if you want to try and GM for the first time, especially since I am still learning myself. My Character Quintessence is a PL 10 Paragon. If you have any suggestions or questions please feel free to give me a shout.

Quintessence is a Sophomore at FCU studying Astronomy. His name is James Roderick. Quintessence He is always looking for some heroing to do.

I will take a set of bleachers and through them at Mike and the Mist Man. Ranged attack roll 1d20+4=10 A sad showing indead. Ranged combat is not my strong suit. Neither are Clouds of mist either. If I happen to hit something, which I find doubtful My damage roll will be 1d20+10=12 Wlee at least I got some oor rolls out of the way fast.

"Oh mother of god that smells horrid! I need to remember not to go into a strange mist if I can avoid it. Now should I go after the guys robbing the crowd or should I go after the big bad? Not even a hard choice there. The only problem I see is that he looks like he is not solid. I should kill two birds with one stone. Quintessence thinks as he looks around for something to through at the pair. He finally settles on one of the sets of bleachers the crowd was sitting on a few moments ago. Quintessence flies over to the nearest set of benches picks it up and heaves it in the direction of the villains. "Lets see if you can both dodge this!

"That was a smart move on your part sir. I don't want to see anyone get hurt. Does someone happen to have a phone on them to call the police with? Quintessence says as he picks up the gun and breaks it in half. He then says to The Lads "Ok all of you, Put your hands on your heads and come over here. The police will be here soon. " Turning his head slightly to the side Quintessence smile and says "Hi, guys thanks for the assistance. My name is Quintessence you all want to see what we can do about that weird fog over by the lamp?"

If The Lads surrender I will take their weapons from them and break them. If you want me to roll a strength check let me know. If the make any other move at all I will jump into action and attack Mike. Attack roll 11+10=21 Unarmed attack. Damage roll 12+10=22 Unarmed Attack It is getting obvious that Mike is stalling for time to have his boss make a move. The longer I wait the more chance that something will happen to endanger the public.

Quintessence says as he drops the smile from his face"I would do as my friend said boys. I don't care what hardware you got under those coats I don't think you have a chance against three capes. On the other hand if you try for it and an innocent gets hurt you will not like what happens. " Quintessence tenses for action in case Mike or one of his thugs does something stupid. "We need to take care of these thugs before whatever is controlling that mist makes it's move. No more games, If he does not surrender I'll have to take him and his gang out before the Mist can more. I just hope these two guys are capable of backing me up so nobody gets hurt." Quintessence thinks an he gets ready to make a move on Make and his gang.

Like I said If he pulls a weapon I wanted to give you the info. I'll be quite happy if he backs down. Intimidate Check 18+1=19 I'm not the best at intimidate, but it's a nice roll. If he happens to notice my voice oh well. Those are the breaks, I'll laugh and deny it.

Well I assume I will need an initiative roll at some point here, so I rolled it for whenever you need it. Initiative roll 15+5 =20 If possible I want to ready an action to try and disarm Mike if he pulls a weapon. My attack roll is Attack roll for disarm 5+10=15 If that happens to hit my damage roll is Opposed damage roll for disarm 19+12=31 Of course if he does not pull a weapon of some kind I will just wait for his reaction.

Flying over the lake where the strange self propelled fog is Quintessence thinks"The strange fog is heading over to the stage area where Mike and those other sketchy guys were going. I wonder what the chances are that those two things aren't connected. I wouldn't bet on it. I better head over there and confront those men before they can pull off whatever plan they have." Quintessence turns around to head over to the stage area and find the man calling himself Mike in the crowd of people. When he sees him he lands in front of him and with a smile on his face in a normal tone of voice"I know you and your friends here are up to something, give up now and come quietly and nobody has to get hurt. Your other choice is to not give up and you and your friends are going to get hurt. The choice is yours."

As I am searching the lake for a cause of the mist I make a search check and get a 21. If I am able to do that, since I saw this post after I made my IC post. " I should go do a flyover that area of strange mist. If there is nothing to see I can always come back to keep an eye on Mike and his cronies. If there is anything strange going on in that mist I can hopefully put a stop to it before there is any danger to the public. " Quintessence thought as he took flight and headed towards the strange mist on the lake. Flying low near the surface of that water Quintessence looks for anything out of place as he approaches the mist.

With a smile on his James says" Well does not look like the fog is going to ruin the day. I hope your back feels better Mike. Have a good one." After taking a look over at my sister to make sure she is not in any danger, I will look for the best place to change and try and keep my eye on Mike and the person he is watching. "I need to watch this guy. He is lying through his teeth. I need to change into my costume and be ready to act as soon as I know what the threat is. I can't believe I take my sister out and something happens! I'm going to pound that guy into the ground." Quintessence thinks determination to stop this guy before things get out of hand growing. He moves into the spot he thinks is best for his needs as soon as an opportunity presents itself.

Turning around after bumping into the man James takes the offered hand shaking it. He smiles and says " No need to be sorry, It is a crowded day, and there was no harm done. What do you think that strange mist could be? It is a bit warm out for fog to be coming up." Thinking quickly "This guy is wearing a heavy coat, and it's not that cold out. I felt something under the coat. He has a weapon. I need to keep my eye on this guy, he could be dangerous. He could also be a cop or another hero. I need to find somewhere I'll be able to get into costume fast if something goes down. I also need to keep an eye on that mist. It is too warm for fog. " As the man looks over to the mist James takes a look around to see if there is somewhere he can change into the costume he keeps in his backpack. He wears the Body suit under his cloths, but the jerkin, cape and visor have to be hidden away.

After complimenting the artist on his work and taking a few minutes to look at his books, James looked for his sister. She was still at the booth selling rugs. Seeing that his sister was in no trouble James decided to look around the crowd. Looking at each individual in the crowd as a potential threat. Is that guy in the hoodie carrying a gun, could there be a super villain walking among the crowd or could there be a crazed terrorist looking to make a statement? "I have to stop this. I cannot be on alert every moment of every day. I'm out with my sister, it's a nice day out. Nothing crazy is going to happen. I should find a cute girl and go flirt a bit. I just need to relax." James thinks with a smile. James moves off into the crowd to do just that, with a smile on his face and a swagger in his step, keeping his eyes pealed for a likely target.

Watching his sister run ahead and look at a booth selling rugs hoping to find something new for the apartment James could not help but smile. "It's nice to see her excited about something. I worry about her sometimes. She seems very withdrawn and antisocial. I need to find a way to get her out more often. " James thought as he walked up to a fire breathing display. The man in the booth definitely stood out in a crowd. James wanders over to get a better look at the tattoos all over the mans body. While James likes a good display of art, he could never get a tattoo. The needle would never pierce his skin. "Those tattoos are some beautiful work, and the fire breathing is just plain Awesome man. Looks like you picked a great spot to set up for the day." James says to the artist with a smile on his face.

"I'm glad we were able to get away today, since you started school at at HIT last month we have barley seen each other." James says while he gives his sister a light hug. "We live together bro, it's not like we never see each other. We eat breakfast together like every other day." Jennifer grumbles while texting on her cell phone. "Mumbling good morning while you drink a cup of coffee before running out the door is not sharing breakfast. Put the phone away and lets do a little bit of shopping for the new place, it's a beautiful day out." James pleads. "Ok, it's away. Now do you think we will be able to find a table for the living room, or maybe even a nice trough rug?" She says while scanning the booth around her.

They currently live together in a two bedroom apartment in the Fens. They are at the Harvestfair to spend the day out and maybe get a few things for their new apartment.
