  1. I would like if Voltage would be able to join the Lab. I can contribute up to 3 PP towards it if necessary. Voltage's specialties are electronics and computers. Link is in my signature. Thoughts?
  2. "Jenny!" a woman, presumably Jenny's mother, ran up to her and picked her up. "Oh, I am so glad to see you." she said, hugging her daughter tightly. "Thank you, young man, thank you so much. What's your name?" "Voltage, Ma'am." He said, nodding. "Well, Voltage, thanks, I'm glad you were there." "Voltage?" Jenny said, turning. "Thank you." Voltage grinned down at her, glad to see her safe and sound. Voltage nodded and turned away. "Always glad to be of help, but I really must be going." With that, he was in the air. He couldn't help but grin as he flew high into the air. He'd done it. He'd saved a little girl, stopped a pair of criminals, and nobody could tell he was a rookie. Well, at least it wasn't obvious to him. "Hahaha!" He laughed in amazement at what he could do. When the moment came, he was prepared to do what needed to be done. No hesitation, no worry, no concern. He acted with a confidence and strength he never knew he had. Later that night, as he prepared to go to bed, he heard something coming from his parents' television in their room. "Some of you may recall that, earlier this evening, a young girl was kidnapped following a failed robbery attempt in the Kingston area. We are glad to report that that little girl is now safely in the hands of her mother. The police report indicates that a young hero, by the name of Voltage, rescued her." After that, the reporter drifted off to different subjects. Thomas grinned as he lay down and gazed up at the ceiling. This had been an interesting night, but one thing had been proven. When push came to shove, he acted like a hero should.
  3. It wasn't hard spotting them again, he lowered himself to the ground and stared at them. The driver instantly recognized that he was in trouble. Voltage folded his arms in a disapproving pose and just glared at the men. He waited for them to get a little closer. He calculated everything in a second, a silver lightning bolt streaked through the engine and the alternator was overwhelmed. The car stopped functioning and began spinning out of control as the two men screamed in panic. They slid across the ice before stopping right in front of Voltage, exactly where he'd calculated they would be. The two men stared out at him, eyes wide with fear. They threw their guns out of the car in surrender and raised their hands, they knew it was over. Voltage just kept his arms folded and watched as the police approached the scene. "We could have hit you." one of the men said, suddenly. "Why didn't you move out of the way?" "I calculated the weight on your car, determined your velocity and the exact reaction it would have to my attack. In other words, I knew your car would stop exactly where it did." They stared at one another in disbelief and shock. At that moment, the driver was prepared to believe whatever Voltage said. The police pulled up moments later, and Voltage took off to retrieve the young girl. He teleported her downto the street and walked her towards the waiting police. The thugs were in custody already by the time he got there, too scared and shocked to put up any resistance.
  4. Voltage reappeared on top of a nearby building with a very scared little girl next to him. She cried out loud and pulled away from him, before turning and realizing he was wearing a mask and costume. "You're a superhero!" She said, suddenly recognizing the situation she was in. Voltage couldn't help but grin. He'd been recognized. She no longer looked scared. "Yes." He said, smiling. "Yes I am." "What's you're name?" She asked. "Mine's Jenny." "Voltage." He said, nodding to her. He couldn't take much more time. He wanted to capture both men before they caused even more trouble. "Stay right here, Jenny, I'll be right back." He stood and turned towards the car that was now speeding away even faster. "Where are you going?" "I'm going to stop those guys." He said, taking off into the air. He knew exactly where they were, and had already calculated a plan of action. This would take a little finesse.
  5. He knew where they were headed, it was all over the internet. He took to the skies instantly and flew towards an intersection. Stopping the car mid-drive would be a terrible idea. He spotted it, with several police cars trailing. They were probably worried about hurting the child. Voltage was going to make her a non-issue. He knew this intersection had a camera, and it was a simple move to hack into the camera and take a peek into it. They'd shoved the girl into the back seat. Within less than a second, he was in the backseat of the car with his hand on the girl's wrist. He positioned himself right in front of her and, before the man could react, was gone. The man immediately realized that something had happened, and cursed loudly. The situation had just gotten worse for him.
  6. He scanned the internet for news. The police were doing their best, but a hostage made it much harder to catch them. They looked desperate, she might be in immediate harm. If he didn't act, he was afraid the girl would die without help. Thomas Morgan teleported to his bedroom and changed into his costume, transforming into Voltage. He flew out the window without a second thought. If he had taken time to think it over, he might have thought about the risks. He might have considered the problems with trying to stop criminals as a rookie hero. He also might have realized that if he failed to stop them, he would hang up his costume and abort his superheroic career before it even really began. He didn't think about any of that. He thought of a scared little girl in the clutches of two desperate criminals. He thought of the best, most efficient way to stop them.
  7. "A hero must always be ready." Thomas said to himself, leaning against the wall. "Am I really a hero though?" He'd worked through every possible scenario in his head a thousand times. He could imagine exactly how to do this thing, or that thing. In theory, he had fought dozens of villains and thugs, considering every angle. He had researched the capabilities of every commonly wielded firearm, all standard equipment, and had even researched hostage search and rescue protocols. Why was he so scared? Because all of the theory in the real world is nothing if you make the wrong mistake. People die, hostages get shot, innocents are hurt. Those are things every superhero must deal with. That's not counting potential property damage. "This just in..." He heard coming from the living room. Thomas's heart beat faster. Two armed thugs had grabbed a little girl during a botched convenience store robbery, only a few block away from his house.
  8. Mali grinned from under her mask, and the helmet that covered it. It was a cold night, but a great night for riding. Her costume protecting her from the chill, she was out on patrol. It felt great to be out at night. As the red and black motorcycle roared beneath her, she had to stop herself from laughing out loud. As she rode along, Pyramid Plaza stretched above her. Even at night, it looked impressive. She pulled off to the side and parked her bike for a moment. There was something on the building. She stared up at them, they were clearly up there. Three stupid looking teenagers trying to climb the side of a building. They definitely looked up to no good. Mali grinned to herself, and cracked her knuckles. "Seems I'm gonna have to put food off for a bit..." She said, before taking off running towards the young men.
  9. "Oh, there won't be an issue, Sir." Voltage nodded. "That number will work if you need to contact me later. For now, I have responsibilities to get to. Nice meeting you!" He turned and, nodding respectfully, flew off.
  10. "Yes, I'm over eighteen." Voltage replied. "I have a job, and I really can't quit it. I wouldn't mind doing freelance work for you, a third party contract job or two. For now, I don't want to be an employee, merely a hero that is part of your group. Still, if you need any computer help, we can probably reach an understanding."
  11. Added source of money to History. Her father is a financial adviser who works to help others invest their money (and makes a sizable money off of it), he spoils his little girl and gives her ample spending money. Oops, forgot to add that part.
  12. I noted a native language, but technically she's bilingual from an early age. As a descendant of people from Thailand, her parents have taught her both languages. She's more comfortable speaking English, so that's listed as native. Added proper flat-footed Defense Added Flat-footed toughness Changed based defense to 4, bought up Dodge Focus by 1, bought Assessment to make up the difference Hopefully that's it
  13. Voltage had to hide his enthusiasm. He only allowed a small, satisfied smirk. "Glad to be on board, Sir." He said, taking the older man's hand and shaking it firmly. Just like his dad taught him. Always give a firm handshake, it leaves a good impression. As he did so, he wondered exactly what sort of things the Summit would be up to. Oh, well, he guessed his life would get a lot more interesting from now on. Just before he turned to fly away, he turned to his new employer. "Oh, and Sir, if you need any tech support, don't hesitate to call. Your security is good, I could make it better."
  14. He was a bit nervous. This interview was going to be very interesting. A journalist on the internet had asked him, by discreet email, to do a short podcast interview. He had never talked to the press before. Host: Alright, everyone, welcome to the HeroCast Podcast! Tonight's special guest is the new, up and coming superhero, Voltage! Voltage: Erm, hi everyone. Sorry, never done anything like this before. Host: Now, I'll avoid any personal questions. If a question is too personal, go ahead and pass on it. I don't want you to accidentally give something away. Voltage: *Sigh* okay, that sounds good. Host: Alright, first question, where were you born? Voltage: I was born in Freedom City, actually. Can't say where, of course, but yeah. Host: Alright, then a native. For all the people at home, who obviously can't see you, what do you look like? Voltage: Well, I'm kinda skinny, and a little tall. About six feet or so. I have gray hair. Too young for that. Host: Interesting, gray hair you say? How did that happen? Voltage: I have no idea. It happened around when I got my powers. Host: So why did you become a superhero? Voltage: I want to help people. It seems weird, but that's it. I like helping people and doing good things, I guess. Host: Boy scout type, huh? Oh well, what sort of powers do you have? Voltage: Well, I can control electricity. Oh, and I'm super smart now. I have this theory on how my brain functions have been enhanced by increased electrical activity, and...yeah, you guys don't want to hear all of that, do you. *laughs* Host: So, what do you really like, and what do you really hate. Voltage: I really like to solve problems. I've always been good with computers, so I like to fix them. I don't care for rude, ignorant, or mean people. They get on my nerves. Host: So how has it been being a new hero? Voltage: It's honestly been nerve wracking. I'm still learning, and my powers are still growing. It's really crazy. Host: Are you afraid of anything? Voltage: Mostly the usual fears. I'm afraid I'm not good enough, or that I'll let someone down when they need me. Host: So what do you really want to do with your life? Voltage: Get rich! *laughs* honestly, I want to have enough money to live a comfortable life. I want to come by it honestly. I want to help people along the way. Host: So what do you think of Freedom City, piece of junk or a great place to live? VOltage: Eh, it's a balance. There are muggers and murderers, but there are also heroes. I mean, it's not perfect, but I like it here. Host: So, have any close friends? how do you get along with people? Voltage: Eh, not too many close friends. I don't like being pushed around, but I tend to get along with people fine. I guess I'm just too normal for most people. Host: What are you most loyal to? Voltage: Doing the right thing. I don't like to compromise doing what's right. I hope I never have to make a big call that might hurt anyone. Host: So, the girls are going to want to know, do you have a significant other? Voltage: *Nervous laugh* uh, no, no I don't. I haven't really thought about it with becoming a super hero and all. I mean, maybe one day, but not right now. Host: So, what do the people around you think of you? VOltage: They probably think I'm a decent guy. I don't hurt anyone, I try to help people. I know my mind gets me in trouble lately. I talk too fast sometimes. Host: So, do you think of yourself as a role model? Voltage: I...don't know. I mean, I try to be a good hero, lead by example, etcetera. If you put a kid in front of me that was asking for advice, I don't know what I'd say. I'm not far removed from being a kid myself. Host: A bit more personal, but are you religious? Voltage: I used to be blah about religion. I just didn't get it. My powers have opened my eyes to new possibilities, so I'm looking around and seeing what suits me. Host: Are you part of a team? Voltage: Eh, not as of this moment. I want to be, though. It'd be nice to have someone tough that can take hits I can't *laughs*. Seriously though, I'd love to belong to a team. I think that I can do a lot more for the world if I had allies to balance my strengths and weaknesses with. Host: How do you feel about the place of metahumans and other supers in the world? Voltage: I think we're well respected, but have to toe the line. Ordinary, regular folk have good reason to fear us. We can do some serious damage with our powers and training if we're not careful. With that said, I deeply respect my fellow heroes, and am honored whenever I meet one. Host: Last but not least, is there anything you'd like to say to the public? Voltage: The world is still a pretty cool place. You can do good in the world if you try. Host: Well, that's all we have for today. Thank you, Voltage. Voltage: Thank you for having me. Host: Alright, this is HeroCast, signing off.
  15. Player Name: Thunder King Character Name: Crimson Tiger Power Level: 10/12 (156/194) Trade-Offs: +3 Attack / -3 Damage, +2 Defense / -2 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 38 In Brief: Muay Thai fighting legacy hero Alternate Identity: Mali Benjawan Identity: Secret Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Lives with parents, does chores and responsibilities around the house Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Father Annan, mother Apsari Description: Age: 20 DoB: August 5th, 1995 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Thai Height: 5'6" Weight: 150 Eyes: brown Hair: black Mali has a pretty, if unremarkable face, with bright eyes and a wide smile. She carries the attitude of a fun loving, sweet young woman. If she's happy, her eyes are like a clear sky. When she's angry or spoiling for a fight, her eyes narrow and become more like a thunderstorm. She has a sinister-looking grin that she adopts when enjoying a fight. She stands at a little over five and a half feet tall, and packs far more muscle onto her slender frame than most would suspect. She favors comfortable, stylish clothing in the latest brands, no longer caring how people react to her physique. She keeps her hair short and often slightly spiky. Since graduating Claremont, she has gotten a lip stud in the middle of her bottom lip, and a tattoo of a tiger on her back near her shoulder. Mali's costume is red and black, designed to resemble a stylized tiger. Her mask covers most of her face. She wears black boots and gloves. The costume is form fitting yet flexible, to allow her to take advantage of her natural agility. History: Mali has walked two paths for her entire life. Her father believes that she should be allowed to choose her own path, and has for her entire life. She likes the taste of Thai cooking (and asian cooking in general), is a Buddhist, and adheres to many Thai traditions. Still, she listens to American music, watches American movies, and embraces her home country. Her family is well off due to her grandfather having invested his money well in the stock market years ago. Her father took that to heart and became an accountant. Now he makes money advising people on how to invest their funds, and invests his own funds wisely. One night, when she was twelve years old, her father sat her next to him and told her a story, the story of Black Tiger, her great-grandfather. Black Tiger had likely been Thailand's first true super hero. He told her stories that his father had told him, how Black Tiger fought against the oppressive government. How he was a champion Thai boxer. Mali sat beside him, eyes wide with wonder. Her great grandfather sounded like an unparalleled warrior. He sounded like the kind of man who's legacy could be followed. Mali did not tell her father, but it was on that day that she resolved to follow in his footsteps. Over the next few years, Mali began taking her Muay Thai training seriously. Her father had been teaching her for exercise and self defense purposes for a few years, but she barely paid attention. Now a fierce fire burned within her that he both admired and worried about. At fourteen, she handily beat her father in a spar. On that day, he abandoned his nickname for her 'little kitten', and changed it to 'little tiger'. She grinned in triumph, knowing she was closer to her goal. She resolved that by her twenty first birthday, she would debut as a superhero. On a cool autumn evening, Benjawan Mali put on her costume and became the Crimson Tiger. She did not, however, anticipate that her father would discover her new double life. He was upset, but, was willing to forgive her. It was decided; she would enroll at Claremont. Mali vanished over the summer for over a month. As far as anyone at home knew, she was visiting family in Thailand. It was only a partial truth. In truth, she was in Thailand. She found an old trainer, one of the true masters. By day she studied under him. It took time to convince him to train a girl, but her skill impressed him enough to pass his techniques on to her. By night, she cut her teeth on Bangkok. She and her cousin Tarrin worked in conjunction, enabling her to sharpen her skills to greater heights. Upon her return to Freedom City towards the end of the summer, she refocused on her crime fighting. Personality & Motivation: Benjawan Mali has no great tragedies in her life. Her parents and both sets of grandparents are alive, and prosperous. No great pain drives her to heroics. She has no guilt, and no angst. What drives her is a burning desire for justice, and a love for a good fight. She is dutiful and respectful to her family and friends, and they love her for it. When in costume, however, she is a different person. She hides a wild streak that loves adventure, action, and a good fight. She tends to be unflappable in a crisis and keeps a level head. Overall, Mali is driven by an inner fire that makes her go out and do things in the world. Powers & Tactics: Mali, the Crimson Tiger, is a Muay Thai fighter. She uses a brutal, efficient, and painful martial art. Against ordinary humans and thugs, she emphasizes fast and efficient take downs. When she's against a superhuman foe, however, she lays on the hurt the best she can. She is a pragmatic combatant that knows that some foes are too strong to fight fair. She wil fight dirty if she feels she needs to. She will never kill, but she knows her enemies might try. Complications: Secret: Very few people know she is the Crimson Tiger, and she prefers to keep it that way. Family: As yet, Mali is not on her own, so she has duties to her family she must fufill Body Image: Mali is a muscular woman. She fears that this might put people off. Enemies in Low Places: Crimson Tiger's tendency to hit the streets means some criminals will know her by reputation. The New Girl: Mali is pretty new to Claremont, and exposure to super powers in general. Never Again: She hates the thought of hurting people, despite her love of fighting. These two concepts inevitably clash. Punching Drug Dealers: Mali has a special distaste for the drug trade which could be exploited by the right people. Violence is never the answer (but it sure is fun): Mali loves a good scrap, and unless her foe is clearly beyond her, she'd rather settle things with a fight than with words. 16. Thomas was a bit nervous. He couldn't be sure if the man was mad or not. He was pretty sure that it was a good thing he wanted to meet, but couldn't be sure. He put his costume and mask on, before flying upward towards the construction site. He saw it from a distance and noticed the figure standing. "I apologize for interrupting your day. I'm sure you're a busy man. He started as soon as he was sure the other man could hear him. "I understand you're looking for people to put on a team. My power is that I can generate electricity. I won't go into the specifics, but they can be very powerful. He didn't waste time explaining himself. He was worried he would talk too much, but wanted to make his statement before the other man dismissed him out of hand.
  17. The press conference was days ago, and now it was finally time to do something. His name was Thomas Morgan, and he was about to hack the personal files of a famous, wealthy man in an attempt to join a superhero team. He was either crazy, or very good. Luckily for Thomas, he was a bit of both. He sat down in his living room chair and pressed his hands together. He didn't need to do it, his powers were purely mental. Still, it was a gesture that helped him cope. He used his home internet connection as a starting point, visualizing the internet as a series of tubes or tunnels. He used the tubes and tunnels as a visualization to help him filter the abstract data into something more tangible. He'd already learned to focus his thoughts better, and soon would not need the visualizations at all. As soon as he sat down, he found the website for al-Misri's corporation. The defenses were decently robust, but not sufficient to stop his keen mind and powers. Within less than a second, he had every piece of data he needed on al-Misri. He didn't bother looking at any of his truly personal information. It was dishonest to know, and could get him in major trouble if anyone ever caught him anyway. "There you are..." He mumbled to himself as a cocky grin spread across his face. "Let's see...". Seconds later, the text was formed in his mind. Mr. al-Misri, I am Voltage. I am a super hero, like you. I'm interested in joining your new team. I apologize for doing it this way, but I wanted to show you what I can do. I can do more than just hack computers, much more. If you want to find out, contact me at this number, we can arrange to meet.. He read it aloud, and was satisfied. He leaned back in his chair and sighed. The next move was his potential employers. He wasn't afraid of retaliation or tracing the number, but he was afraid that his reputation as a superhero would fall apart before it was even established.
  18. This is the OOC thread for Voltage Volunteers
  19. Doktor'd 10/30/2011 Voltage: *Change his age from 16 to 18 *Under History, erase the phrase "Some days later, he enrolled at the Claremont Academy" and replace with "Some time later, he constructed his costume and debuted as the new hero Voltage". EDIT: Also, sorry, but change his birth year to 1993. Thank you Doktor'd 10/30/2011
  20. Corrected armor notation, teleport, and Feat/Extra problems.
  21. Player Name: Thunder King Character Name: Voltage Power Level: 12 (177/189) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 12 Progress To Silver Status: 36/60 (Bronze Status earned with Crimson Tiger) In Brief: Super smart electricity controller Alternate Identity: Thomas Morgan Identity: Secret Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Computer Tech/Student Affiliations: Fellow employees, classmates Family: Father James, mother Laura, brother Samuel Description: Age: 18 (DoB: April 9, 1993) Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'11" Weight: 155 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: White (side effect of mutation) Voltage is nearly six feet tall and slim but fit. His face is sharp and somewhat hardened by isolation. His now-white hair is kept short in a neat if nondescript cut. His costume is all black. There are silver accents on each glove and on his boots that look like lightning. Across his chest streaks a silver lightning bolt. Power Descriptions: Voltage's electricity powers manifest as a silver color. When he teleports, his teleportation has an electric effect. If it's short range, the electricity flows to the spot he's teleporting to. If it's long range, it just vanishes. In both cases he reassembles from the energy at destination. History: His parents, James and Laura Morgan, lived in California where James was a researcher at a corporation. James was diagnosed with cancer, and after doing research discovered that the company was experimenting on it's employees illegally. James was treated for cancer successfully and they sued the company along with other employees. The company went under, and James and Laura moved to Freedom City. After moving to Freedom City, they had their first child, Thomas. He lived an ordinary life as an ordinary child until shortly before his 18th birthday, when he accidentally electrocuted himself trying to fix a computer. It was a severe shock, but put him in a coma for reasons doctors did not understand. The coma lasted only four days. On the fourth day, the nurses entered the room and discovered that the walls had been scorched with black marks all over the wall. Thomas was standing in the room, seemingly unharmed. It was at this point that he discovered his powers. Some time later, he constructed his costume and debuted as the new hero Voltage. In 2013, Voltage formally retired from heroics to focus on his career. He went to work for Katastroff and got some serious education under his belt. Within four years, he was Dr Thomas Morgan, three times over. He continued to work for Katastroff. In mid-2017, he received research funds and opened his own facility in an isolated location in the upper atmosphere. He was the sole researcher, and within a few weeks, he was in total isolation. He powered the facility and received deliveries of food, but after a while he broke contact off completely. He did not see a single, living human in person from June 2018 until March 5th, 2020. On March 5th, 2020, he voluntarily left his facility and closed it down. He had done as much as he could locked in a facility by himself, and he's decided to rejoin the world as a whole. He has, as well, decided to dust off his old costume and resume the identity of Voltage. Personality & Motivation: Voltage is a bit arrogant and cocky, but that's more from age than anything. He's not quite used to the mental affects of his new powers, so he has trouble expressing himself sometimes. He used to only be a bit bright, but his new genius is staggering to him. He reacts to strange situations by trying to take control. He's okay with following others so long as they have an idea of what to do. He cannot stand being talked down to and struggles to bite his tongue if anyone does so. He's far more likely to act than react. Still, his heart is in the right place, and he wants to be a hero to protect the world. He defers to more experienced heroes and authority figures out of respect, so long as they don't treat him like a child. He tries to handle every situation with maturity, logic and intelligence. Sometimes this works in his favor, other times it doesn't. He does not hesitate and uses his new-found intelligence to assess every situation as best he can. Powers & Tactics: Voltage is acutely aware of his strengths and limitations. He knows he hits the hardest from a range, and doesn't bother fighting up close and personal unless necessary. He retreats from melee whenever he can. He takes advantage of his ability to control electricity from any angle to hit people in unexpected ways. He uses his intellect and radio detection to plan fights out ahead of time, gaining any information on his foes that he can. This gives him the ability to assess foes with speed and efficiency. Complications: Big Brain, Small Head: Voltage's mind works like a supercomputer, incredibly complex and fast.
