  1. Corbin blinked at the raw enthusiasm Mark displayed. "It's, uh, nice to meet you, Mark. And no worries; I was just getting settled in in here. Though most of the "settling" was done for me. This is actually a fine time. It doesn't look like they have me joining classes until tomorrow; something about processing paperwork and such. I've got a couple of class summaries to skim, but I guess the teachers know the drill." He waved towards the hall. "So yeah, tour on. I'd enjoy a bit more familiarity with the grounds, maybe meet a few people. I think almost everyone was in class when I came in. I met another new kid, a gal named Etain, and some guy who was leaving, named Eddie. Otherwise, I feel like a complete stranger here."
  2. Because I'm a sucker for this thought exercise... First, my one created NPC. Tranquility Tyrant would be a Yellow Lantern. Even though he has the whole "angry at the world" thing going on, his baser motivation is to make the world "right" through the application of force (and thus the inducement of fear). Thus, Yellow Lantern. He'd primarily use it to augment his protections further, give him slightly better movement, and add in TK and Create Object (to herd his victims). I doubt he'd use it more directly offensively, but he might create an energy-sword to fence with or some big knuckledusters to punch with. Next, my very first character here. Gabriel is a Blue Lantern so much it hurts. He's got the skills for inspiring hope, and his whole motivation is "I have hope this city can be better, so I'm going to help it along". While he's got plenty of compassion, it's not quite the focus that his Hope is. That said, it'd be a "patch job" to give it a few more abilities without the necessary presence of a Green Lantern. First and foremost, the ring would drastically increase his survivability, giving him much better defensive measures. As well, he'd have great team-boosting abilities, using a combination of natural Charisma, Inspiration, and of course a Boost. Likely use it to make constructs to defend civilians while he uses his natural powers to beat down bad guys. Might be able to use ring constructs to extend his range on some abilities. Finally, my newer hero. Cobalt Templar, despite his name, would be a Green Lantern. Well, eventually. He still has to work through some motivation and confidence issues, but when he does, determination is the name of the game. His sense of duty and (eventual!) fearlessness would combine to make him an implacable foe for evil. One day he'll be standing the line against the worst nightmares the multiverse can offer. Of course, the GL ring can't really do anything more than what his current ring can. I suppose they'd feed off of each other, and let him do more things at once. There. Sorry for "thread necro", but this brain bug wouldn't leave well enough alone. :P
  3. Corbin nodded, waving to her as she wandered towards the Kim Conrad Dormitory, and he towards the Jon Carter Dormitory. "I suppose I'll see you around later, Etain. Take care. I need to go drop my stuff off, and try to do a bit of unpacking." With that, he entered the aforementioned dormitory. The morning hour meant that the halls were oddly empty, most kids off at class, or perhaps out and about the city, or the library, or basically anywhere but the dorm building. Corbin decided a quick jog up the stairs was better than a ride in the elevator. On the third floor, he pulled out the paper with his room assignment. "Let's see....317....Ah, there it is." He opened the door, and found that his parents had arranged for everything to be arranged already. His clothes were placed in the dresser or the closet, the furniture in a fairly standard one-person arrangement, and everything perfectly clean. "I suppose I can't count on housekeeping from here on out. Meh. I'm sure I'll be fine. Hm. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the setup...Wait." Setting his bags down, the young man gestured with his right hand. Blue energy surrounded the couch, which he subtly shifted about 6 inches to one side. This small act of "personalization" left a smile on the aspiring archeologist's face. "There. Now it's perfect." He then busied himself with unpacking the belongings he had carried with him, familiarizing himself with the room, and then sitting on the couch, studying his schedule.
  4. Corbin examined the schedule, then nodded. "Looks like we have the same basics. I have an art elective you don't, but I don't have any classes related to mystic history. Still, it's nice to know I'll have at least one familiar face in my classes. Maybe I can get to know a few more students..." He looked to the Jon Carter dorm, and sure enough, the roof was a nice blue. He let out a deep belly laugh. "I wonder if whoever is in charge of assigning our rooms knows the irony of that roof's color for me."
  5. Gabriel listened to Red Bolt's ravings while he examined the...modified...Bible. Certainly, there were references to a shephard. Sometimes, they even referred to God. But he couldn't help but feel the man was trying to make something that wasn't there. There were still too many questions. Did this "Shephard" have any other names? How had Red Bolt met him? These and other questions spun through his mind. Things didn't feel quite like they were meshing. He looked up to speak with the man again. "Well, I can-" And then there were explosions. Gabriel tossed the book back to Red Bolt as he turned to face the direction of their source. "We won't be far behind, Grim." He turned to look at his two remaining companions. "Wonder if they're here for him...or someone else. Or even something...don't they keep some of the gear from the villains around here?" He waited to start moving until one of the other, somewhat more experienced heroes took the lead. He wasn't sure if it was better to follow Grim, or to stay put so she could know where to report to them.
  6. Corbin turned to face Etain, a small smile coming to his face. <I'm in the Jon Carter dormitory, third floor. Looks like I don't have a roommate at the moment. A perk of my age and grade, I suppose. What about yourself.> While still giving her his attention, Corbin turned back to examine the surrounding school buildings. <Do you know which classes you'll have? My course load is pretty standard; there's not really much in the way of a history & archeology study course here. Something for college, I suppose.>
  7. Corbin thanked the Headmaster for his advice, and for his open door policy. He hefted his bag back onto his shoulder, and walked out onto the green lawn in the midst of the school. He took a moment to close his eyes, breath deep, and just listen to the sound of the whole place. Very faintly, he could just catch people moving and talking all through the buildings. He opened his eyes again slowly. "I guess this is home for now..."
  8. Right, with the meetings done... Any and all Claremont characters are welcome to pop into this thread. Meet and greets are more fun with lots of people! :)
  9. Gabriel briefly succombed to the demon's attack on his senses, but gritted his teeth and beat back the mental attack through a combination of determination and faith. When he next spoke, his voice had a deep, otherworldly aspect to it; it was a voice that would frighten many criminals "I say thee nay, demon! We shall not thank thee for thy evil deeds! But you shall not have the chance! This day we shall strike you down! I say thee again, begone! Begone! In the name of the Lord, I cast you away! I claim victory even now, through He that is greater than us all! Tremble, demon! Feel the barest taste of the Wrath of the Lord! Once more, I say:" His hands pulled back for a moment...before thrusting forwarding, the air rippling violently as a concentrated blast of intense sound ripped from Gabriel's clenched fists and screaming right for the center of the demon's torso. "BEGONE!"
  10. Right then. Attacking with a Blast. Attack Roll: 20+10=30. Normal Toughness Save DC is 26. Critical DC is 31. :D
  11. Gabriel's will is unquenchable! He does not fear your magic- Will Save: 1+8=9... *Headdesk* Dang it Invisible Castle! EDIT: Spending a Hero Point. Rerolling. Will Save Reroll: 13+7=20. Ha! Much better. :D
  12. Corbin sat in thought for over a minute. He stared at the ring on his hand. Mr. Summers could almost hear the gears turning in his head. Finally, the young man looked back up at the headmaster. "I want them to help people. And I want to make sure I have control over them. Right now, I only know what it can do, not what it might do. I want help stretching the limits, so that I know those limits when I go help people. I realize it's not an easy life, but I might as well do something useful with the thing since I have it already. I realize that's not a universal opinion with those with power, but it's what I believe. I may not be sure of a lot of things about this world, this ring, and even my own beliefs some days, but I do know that right down to my core. That with this power, comes a responsibility to use it to help. One way or another."
  13. Right, after gnawing a bit of scenery, time for initiatives... Initiative Roll: 4+2=6. .... :? I guess Gabriel was delayed by the scene-chewing.
  14. For a brief moment, Gabriel felt relief. He'd gotten through to the real Jermaine! "Jermaine, I'm glad you came to your-" And then the boy is thrown over the counter, the creature reveals its true self, and Muse is attacked. For several seemingly infinite moments, Gabriel feels fear. But then, this fear morphs into resolve. And anger. The air begins to waver around the young sound controller. His jacket lifts on invisible waves of sound, the ground underneath him cracking slightly in the sheer force of it. A few cracks spider across the windows of the store, and a couple items shake out of their place on the shelves. And Gabriel rises a few inches into the air, clenched fists held at his side, near-visible waves of sound beneath his feet and wavering around his hands. His face was like stone, the resolve in his eyes almost palpable. "You shall not cause me fear, demon. For I fear neither you, nor your master! Begone, now! Begone, seducer! Your place is in solitude; your abode is in the nest of serpents; get down and crawl with them. This matter brooks no delay; for see, the Lord, the ruler comes quickly, kindling fire before Him, and it will run on ahead of Him and encompass His enemies in flames. You might delude man, but God you cannot mock. It is He who casts you out, from whose sight nothing is hidden. It is He who repels you, to whose might all things are subject. It is He who expels you, He who has prepared everlasting hellfire for you and your angels, from whose mouth shall come a sharp sword, who is coming to judge both the living and the dead and the world by fire! " The man in white pauses to take a deep breath. When he speaks again, his voice shakes the store. And the building. And echoes into the street. Loose dust trickles down from the ceiling. "BEGONE!"
  15. Corbin spent several moments examining the escalating situation, before coming to a decision. "I'll protect the hostages! You work on the sumo reject here!" He stepped to one side, raising his right hand with a look of concentration on his face... And a dome of blue, firey light sprung up over the hostages, before it seemed to "harden" into a bright blue construct. It had the appearance of steel, and scattered along the top and the side away from the crazy woman were a series of 1inch holes all the way through.
  16. Okay. I'm going to use Create Object to put up a wall between the hostages and everything else. I can make up to 5 10ft cubes of material. Since they seem to be grouped inside that design on the floor, I'm just going to put a rough dome of material around them. It'll be the equivalent of Steel, with some air holes scattered around so they don't suffocate. Free Action: Talk Standard Action: Create Object Move Action: Step to one side so others can do stuff.
  17. Corbin sits there politely, listening as the headmaster spoke. "Well sir, I have been able to at least glance at everything. The academic side really isn't my worry, though." He leans forward a bit and lifts his right hand to around head level, the palm facing Corbin's back, leaving the jeweled ring easily visible. "I realize I wasn't born with power, and they're not necessarily "innate". But this ring is rather clingy and picky, so I might as well have been. So my question to you is "How can you help me with this?". I do not consider it a problem; sometimes a burden, but never a problem. I want to help people. Can you help me learn how to do that? It's not exactly why my parents sent me here, though...I think they'll adjust to the idea in time." He lowers his hand to again rest on one of the arms of the chair, leaning back into said chair with a slight creak. His face was earnest and questioning, the very picture of a young man searching for a solid path to walk.
  18. Sorry about that, folks. Here's my roll. Initiative: 18+2=20. :D
  19. Sorry, was out gaming this afternoon/evening. Will roll and post and such after I sleep. :?
  20. Corbin found the path the criminals took odd, to say the least. He blinked in surprise at the scent of incense, then frowned. He turned back to Kid Cthulu, a determined look set on his face, his shoulders held high. "We need to get down there. There's no telling what they're going to try doing." With that, he turned and flew down the passage, hoping to quickly come upon the hostages and their captors. And perhaps stop what might be going on...
  21. CT is flying around the mall, looking for hostages. Notice: 8+7=15 Search: 3+5=8 :?
  22. Corbin frowned. Information was good, but they needed to rescue the rest of the hostages! "I'm going to go try to find the other hostages. We can't let these whackos get away with them." With that, he took off, attempting to quickly search the mall from the air, keeping his senses alert for a large group, or several groups.
  23. Right. Move action to get to the group. Free to talk. Standard to use TK to attempt a grapple on the thug. TK Grapple: 9+14=23.
  24. Cobalt Templar recognizes at least one person here: Kid Cthulu. He tries to keep as formal of a bearing as possible, not wanting to hint at identities or anything, as he starts to land. "Glad to see everyone's okay here. Where is everyone else, though? Shouldn't there be...Hold that thought." This was about the time Corbin registered seeing the thug trying to exit the security door. He frowned slightly, then raised his right hand to point at the man. A band of blue, fiery energy raced out, quickly reaching the man and attempting to entangle him in something that vaguely resembled a human hand. Oddly, despite the fire-like appearance of the energy, nothing it touched burned. Corbin attempted to use the hand to grab hold of the thug, hoping to bring him up to the rest of the group and ask him questions. "Let's see what this one knows."
