  1. Pompadour missed Donar again, but his attempted strike was enough to get the attention of the Lord of Thunder! Just as Donar wheeled on Pompadour, his hammer glowing with another energy discharge, suddenly Donar's head cocked. With a look of fury on his face, he pointed right at Pompadour and boomed, "When He comes, you and your friend will be the first to fall before my might!" With another sudden eruption of glowing energy, Donar vanished in a spectacular burst of light! This time, though, his departure was spectacular enough to completely unbalance the room! Huge chunks of masonry, then earth, began to fall as Da Bomb began completely collapsing. "RUN!" Avenger called to Pompadour, heading for the door himself. "HIT THE STAIRS!"
  2. When Avenger spoke, it was with purring, roiling vehemence. "The man at the top of your penthouse may be walking around, Grimalkin, but he died years ago. He doesn't have many more days in him. Let him have what he has, and let your people choose whether or not they want to live under his rule."" He hesitated a moment. "And you're wrong about me." Avenger was flanking Grim and Wesley now, having gotten there with near-impossible speed and stealth. Crouching on the building rail, he stared at Wesley and Grimalkin, emotion roiling in his eyes. There was a long pause and then Avenger spoke dramatically, "I'm not from the North End. I'm from...the suburbs!"
  3. Character X (ooh, there's a name) has Transform 10 (inanimate, Continous). He can transform a thousand pounds of any inanimate matter in any other inanimate matter. He's a big gun, not great at doing anything else, and can only do direct damage by using his Create Object AP and dropping solidified air on people's heads.
  4. "Can ensure financial support for all Imperator residents sufficient to meet their needs. Will provide money for special assistance housing, for modifications of existing dwelling. Whatever they require. Requires only one small deception on your part. And the use of Wesley's powers." Avenger looked levelly at Grimalkin. "Have worked with me. Have socialized with Wesley. How much trust?"
  5. "He said your mother and father died fighting Omega," replied Columbia, her eyes wide as she stared at her daughter. "I know they were real heroes, honey. I'm sorry, but I don't have any answers." Tears shone sharply in her eyes as she spoke, her voice suddenly cracking into a scream, her hands rising up to pull at her black bouffant hair. "I was a good mother too! I saved my children! Wanting to live with your babies isn't so bad, is it?! IS IT!?!"
  6. The sight of Victoria Atom stopped the bizarrely warped version of Andrea Atom dead in her tracks, a look of dawning horror in her eyes. "Vicky? No, you..." She tensed her massive legs as if ready to leap right at "Victoria", then took a step back as if struck. "No. No, you're this Victoria Atom." Her voice was writ with horror deeper than the angst in her voice earlier. "Victoria" obviously meant far more to her than the monuments she'd been smashing. "I'm sorry, child, but I'm not your mother. Go home now, this is no place for you."
  7. There was no sign of Avenger at first as Wesley and Grim landed on the roof of the Hunter Building, the rooftop seeming deserted even after the fifteen minute period he'd set out for them was up. Just when they were starting to think he'd ditched them, a familiar gravely voice echoed from the shadows and the hockey-masked avenger of the night stepped into view. "Glad you made it. Situation has developed. Have option for Imperator residents." "
  8. Any issues with Continuous inanimate Transform as a character's main power?
  9. How would you guys like to deal with an intruder from another dimension? A technological powerhouse able to challenge you both, striking right in the heart of Hanover? We need to get all the Knights in on the Invasion.
  10. "So many have said," Avenger taunted, showing a confidence he didn't necessarily feel at the sight of this awesome demigod. "And yet here we are. Don't even need the Freedom League to take you on. Knights'll beat you like the tinpot god you are." Avenger's fast movement and stealth were all that was saving him from Donar. A good thing, too, as Donar was showing remarkable aim with that incredible weapon of his!Still, he didn't quite hit Avenger, who was invisible even to Pompadour as he taunted and moved, keeping the shadows between himself and Donar. The room had survived the initial devastation done by Donar's attack, but his repeated lightning bolts were ripping through the foundation and making the steel beams inside the central concrete core groan and strain. A little more punishment like this and the whole room would come collapsing down on all of them. But not on the civilians; between the two of them, Avenger and Pompadour had gotten them all out!
  11. Donar's hammer is in his hand; it returned to him as a free action.
  12. We need you fine gentleman for a Knights thread, oh yes.
  13. "Bring our friend to the roof of the Hunter Building. It's the red and green condo to your immediate right." Jack opted not to mention how exactly he knew where Wesley and Grim were right then. It seemed...declasse. "Will meet you there in fifteen minutes. Hope you have established an atmosphere of trust. Not a strength of mine."
  14. Aw, what the heck. You recognize Columbia from a recent documentary on superhero history. That's not Lady Liberty in that costume (which, anyway, isn't an exact copy), that's Andrea Atom!
  15. At that precise moment, as if by some monstrous happenstance, Wesley's cellphone rang with the dulcet ringtones he'd come to associate with Avenger: "Don't Fear the Reaper." "Wesley. Progress." came Avenger's voice at its flattest and calmest when the life-controlling tattoo artist answered the phone.
  16. Coming Summer 2009 to Freedom City Play By Post! [dramatic opening music plays] In the dead of night, Avenger perches on a rooftop overlooking a deserted alley as thunder roars behind him. A woman's husky voice, full of anger "You knew this couldn't last forever!" sf/x: explosions, bloodied faces screaming A minister's voice, full of passion, "Drive the Devil out!" Jack's voice, full of fury "I gave you everything and this is how you treat me?!" A moment later, his voice wrapped in horror, "My God, what have I done?" A cold rain begins to fall, cascading down over Avenger A man's voice, professional and worried. "We have to accept the reality that we've let a monster run loose on the streets." Melinda's voice "KILL HIM!" Jack shouting, "We can be better than this!" Pyre shouts in surprise and fear, "No man could survive a hit like that!" Avenger turns and looks dramatically into the camera as rock chords swell. When he speaks, though, there is nothing but his cold, flat voice. "I. AM. NO. MAN!" Coming Summer 2009: Avenger's Fall Just remember. Previews Always Lie. ;)
  17. Power Level: 12 Trade-Offs: +2 Attack for -2 Damage, +2 Defense for -2 Toughness Unspent PP: Characters Name: Melinda Elizabeth Ailey Alternate Identity: "M", "Miss Melinda," Height: 5'5" Weight: 120 lbs Hair: Black Eyes: Brown Description: Tall in her own era, Melinda is of average height and build today. But there is nothing average about her impossibly gorgeous face, cascading black hair, beautiful eyes, or long, wicked fangs. (She keeps those reserved for special occasions, however.) She prefers old-fashioned, Victorian-style dresses, but has had them all specially modified to allow ease of movement in for combat and pleasure both. History: Most of Melinda's history can be found in the Green Ronin PDF _Iron Age Vigilantes and Villans_ and in the "Thoughts on Vampire Culture" thread right here in our Campaign Discussion forum. Melinda has learned much in the nearly two decades since the destruction of her hated child Nightrage; she's a better fighter, a better leader, and a true queen of the city's damned. But like so many vampires, ultimately she is still the young woman who learned so painfully that love is unable to master the horrors of the world. Only lust matters, and will, and power. Those are the things Melinda cares about. She will allow no one, and nothing else, to stand in her way. Personality & Motivation: Melinda is a spoiled temptress turned queen, a monster in the guise of an incredibly beautiful woman. She cares about maintaining her power and satisfying her lusts, however the twains shall meet. She acts as a mysterious patron and businesswoman in Freedom City's highest and lowest corridors; answering to no one save herself and the demands of vampire society. Many people know her face. Only a very, very few mortals know what she is. Powers & Tactics: Melinda prefers to avoid fighting superhumans; that's what minions are for. But she's no coward, and will fight to the death if cornered in her lair or if it looks like all might be lost. Melinda's primary source of power comes from her social connections and networking, but she's no shabby fighter herself. She prefers to use her looks and stealth in a fight, sucker-punching men and backstabbing women, showing no mercy. If she thinks she can seduce or toy with an opponent in a fight, she'll try and knock them out. If they fail to amuse her, though, she will simply rip their heads off and lick up their sweet, sweet blood. She's done it many, many times before. 18. OK, make a History check and a Pop Culture check.
  19. The star-spangled powerhouse in the cemetery was walking from monument to monument, casually driving her massive fist through every single headstone and memorial, shattering marble and concrete to so much powder. Grimalkin could hear police sirens, but the local cops weren't likely to rush to stop a super-criminal in the Fens. That was a job for superheroes, something the Fens had in few numbers...especially in a holiday weekend. "Your flags won't save you!" called the voice of the muscular woman in the cemetary, "don't you see? Your nation can't stop him! Your heroes can't stop him! Just like they can't stop Columbia!"
  20. On March 30, 2009, Melinda and Lord Samedi have a meeting in Lincoln.
  21. Have an HP for your clever strategizing! Now make a Reflex save.
  22. Pompadour's charismatic leadership and heroic hair-slinging easily protected the civilians from the falling debris, his efforts visibly saving dozens of lives as they turned and fled up the emergency stairs behind the bar rather than towards the emergency exit on the other side of the club that was already collapsing. Never had an underground room seemed so blasted claustrophobic. On the other side of the room, it was all Avenger could do to distract the living god before him. "Miserable failure. Attacking the helpless to show your power. Pathetic. You are the god of thunder?" Avenger was blindingly fast, moving with a speed and stealth far beyond the abilities of the god of thunder to detect. There was something terribly thrilling in all of this, the knowledge that his skills were superior to the powers of the being before him. But he knew it couldn't last long. "FOOL!" Donar shrugged off a chunk of debris as it shattered against his back, the debris sizzling as it bounced off his hammer. "YOUR WORLD WILL FALL BEFORE OUR MIGHT!" And with that, he smashed his hammer into the ground, sending waves of electricity through the floor that burned the carpet, scorched the hair, and reached out hungrily to grab at everyone still in the room! Avenger dodged by the skin of his teeth, feeling part of his costume catch fire briefly as he vaulted the stream of energy.
  23. On Memorial Day Weekend, 2009 Scarab and Wesley fight 'Raven' and...something else at the Pyramid Plaza Grimalkin confronts a mysteriously familiar powerhouse in the Fens
  24. It was a beautiful Memorial Day in the Fens, a time for everyone in the neighborhood to relax and enjoy themselves. There were barbecues and parades, kids playing in the streets, and for a little while the troubled community came together to forget their poverty and celebrate those who had gone before to help build Freedom City and the nation that had fostered it. That made it all the worse when the woman appeared, right in the heart of the Stoneman Veteran's Cemetery near the edge of the Fens. The hulking figure in a strange version of Lady Liberty's uniform stood nearly seven feet tall, her platinum-blonde hair cascading down over a red, white, and blue costume shaped like a bathing suit that looked tight enough to be painted on. The flash of light that signaled her arrival was nearly blinding, bright enough that no one could say for sure exactly when she'd appeared out of nothingness. "Fools!" she yelled at the horrified family members and veterans gathered to lay a wreath at the tomb of Sergeant Nicholas Stoneman, the Fens native and WWII veteran who had won a Medal of Honor in the Pacific in the Second World War. "There is no nation but his!" She flexed a hugely muscled arm and scooped up a headstone, hurling it at the big statue of Sergeant Stoneman. "Run now!" Something in her eyes, in the costume that was a bizarre parody of Lady Liberty, was enough to send even hardened combat veterans running and screaming.
