  1. I had actually intended to have Raven have this from the beginning; somehow I let it slip through the cracks. Basically, I want her to have a Comprehend Languages spell. Two potential issues: the effect is Continuous, and I know that can create some problems as an Alternate Power (this would be part of Magic). My intention is that it would not be in effect if Raven was using or used any other Magic effect as per the rules for an Array, but I'm certainly open to taking the duration down to Sustained if that will make it easier. Also, I would like the spell to allow Raven to read any language as well; does that require a different effect, does it not exist, or can I just do it for a 5th rank of Comprehend languages? Thanks
  2. Raven walks over to inspect the figure on the ground. "He does not look to be seriously injured. However, perhaps we should wait on informing the authorities, Are you sure he was working alone? And what was his purpose here?" After finishing this sentence, she begins muttering, almost as if to herself, and her hands fly out from under her cloak a few times as she gestures. After a few seconds she says, "Raven Omniscience." A faint purple glow can be seen from under her hood. "I'll check the building."
  3. I'm in, though when making my notice roll I erroneously thought the thread was called "Chance Encounters" and, thus, my abbreviation is wrong.
  4. Megan was walking home after another disappointing day. One would think, in a town this big and with this many governments operating out of it, that someone would need the services of a universal translator. Maybe I'll try the courthouse tomorrow. She was walking into her building, preparing mentally for another night of scrying, when she heard a loud BOOM above her. Well that's... unusual. Suppose I had better check it out. She slips into the entryway, out of view of the street, and takes a quick look around, sighing as she does so. I hate this skulking around stuff, but I'd rather not have maniacs at my door constantly. Raven changes quickly, covered completely by her cloak within seconds. She mutters strange words, seemingly only with meaning to her, before whispering, "Fly Through the Night." Instantly, she appears on the roof near the back side edge, just in time to see a figure try to struggle to his or her feet before falling back to the roof. She takes a quick look around and notices the figure in the yellow jumpsuit, still standing. Raven readies herself to take a defensive position, if necessary. She calls out, "What has happened here?"
  5. Raven frowns from within her hood, quite certain that the man is front of her is hiding something. Nevertheless, she spun quickly as he walked away from her and discovered that someone else did in fact join them in the sewers. Well well; looks like he wasn't feeding me a complete fabrication. It's time I found out exactly what I'm dealing with here; or what I'm not, as the case may be. Raven's cloak bulges in a few places as she makes some quick gestures and mutters some unintelligible words. At the end, she whispers, "Detect Magic." She searches for the magical auras in the area with her extra sense as she says, in the same almost sexless voice she used with the young man upon arriving, "Hello, stranger. I ask that you state your purpose down here in the sewers with this young man." She stands still, cloak closed and covering her, only the light glinting off the silver runes betraying her presence once she stops speaking.
  6. Sorry about that; it's dark and Raven can be... condescending. Also, I'm assuming you could tell from the IC post, but I activated my ESP 12 power
  7. Yes I know that, but Raven doesn't. And I will indeed let you know, if it occurs
  8. I think this is something Mystic Raven would want to participate in, but it may be less with eyes on membership and more so they know about her in case she needs help with the disaster she's been told is coming. Of course, she wouldn't tell them the latter part. If that's acceptable, I'm in.
  9. I an familiar with Naruto, and that looks a lot like Haku. If I'm wrong tell me, but, as a flavor issue, I remember Haku being able to do several of those things at once, which you can't do without Dynamic on the Array. Just something to think about.
  10. Raven's eyebrows fly up, unseen within the confines of her hood. Her surprise causes her to drop the affectation of her voice, and a much more feminine-sounding one issues from her lips. "I am afraid I'm not familiar with the name Centurion, but I am certainly not a killer. I find it curious that one would follow you here without cause, however. I expect a homicidal maniac, whom I have not yet seen, would simply stay above ground and find easier prey. So, though I do not know if you have done anything wrong, I must ask if you might know what you may have done to cause someone with murderous intent to follow you into such a place." Raven turns her head quickly to glance behind her, trying to see what the boy in front of her is looking at before turning back to him and setting her piercing gaze on his face. What could this poor boy have done to drive someone to murder?
  11. Mystic Raven has appeared on the scene, curious as to why someone bleeding has slipped into the sewers but knowing nothing else about the situation, including the involvement of a vigilante. She is at full health and in costume.
  12. Raven sits in her apartment, in a room with no windows, levitating a few feet off the ground in an "indian style" position. Her eyes glow a deep purple as she scrys around the city, looking for signs of disaster. Although, she thinks, at this point I'd settle for dissonance. It's been a while since I've done anything. She had been looking around the city for hours and was about to give up when, at the edge of her extra-sensory vision, she caught a glimpse of something sliding into the sewers. Well, that's unusual, she thinks as she shifts her scrying to the area of sewer just below that street. There, she spies a young man, slightly laboring for breath and bleeding from his arm. She sighs to herself. Not my usual sort of thing, but it'll do tonight. She stretches her legs to the ground and sets herself on the ground lightly. She throws her cloak over her shoulders, keeping her hood low so that her face will not be seen. She bring the image of the sewer she saw to mind as her hands go through complex motions and patterns quickly. She smirks as she finishes and whispers "Fly Through the Night." The shape of a large, black bird appears where she was, and she is gone. She reappears about 5 feet behind the young man she saw, thankful for the force field keeping the muck of the sewer off her. Only what little light there is glinting off the strange runes stitched into the hood of her cloak belie her presence. She takes a moment, glancing around to asses the situation, before saying quietly, in a tone and quality of voice that makes it hard to discern her sex, "What is someone like you doing in the sewers?"
  13. Alright; that's the sort of thing I'm looking for; as such, I believe Raven is now fully fixed and complete.
  14. Thanks for the advice on the Power Feats; they're in now. Actually, I was looking at my ESP and I wanted to confirm that it works like a true Scrying spell; i.e. I can activate and just basically "look around". Thanks
  15. Sorry about that. I lowered it to Blast 10 to saty within the caps. I also lowered Dazzle to 10 in case it is subject to the same caps. If it is not subject to those caps, please raise it back up to 12.
  16. I have to say, being new here with a character just approved, I'm not sure about this. How recently created should a thread be before I try and join? Is there some point in the development of a thread (in terms of length) after which I should stay out? Any advice would be appreciated; thanks
  17. Sorry about that; I swear I saw somewhere that Magic Power Loss was -3 points, but looking at it again I see that was a mistake. So I'll make some minor changes. Flight will be restricted in the way you suggest; Raven will need to be able to speak and gesture to invoke her Flight. However, the way I think of her force field is something she can control freely, almost like breathing. Essentially, she activates her innate force magic, and her tattoo shapes it into a force field. Therefore, I'm adding the Reduced Load drawback to Flight in addition to Power Loss. That should even things up. Thanks for the catch on that.
  18. Ok, I think the Detect Magic AP is now fully correct, which means I believe the character is now fully ready. I hope I am right.
  19. Thanks for the answer on the Equipment and the catch on ESP. I had changed it from before; I forgot why it was so low. Also, I like the Rapid suggestion, though I think I need to look at that Detect Magic calculation more. Let me know on that, if you would please, if you get to it before me. Otherwise, I think Raven is ready. Again, thanks for the help!
  20. Oh; in addition, I think I'm going to keep the same name if that's not a problem, simply because it's what the character would choose, and she doesn;t know about The Raven.
  21. Thanks for the help. I changed the magic sense AP so I think it's right and not over-bought. I also added Cancels Concealment to my Scrying. I think I can do that, but let me know if I can't. I also combined my 2 Concealment spells into one that conceals from all senses. My only remaining question is about my Equipment feat; I'm still not sure if I need it to have those things. Thanks!
  22. I'm a 22 year old living in Illinois. I'm currrently working a temporary job with the Census Bureau, and I'll be looking for a new job after that. I'll be going to law school next year. Most of my gaming experience is in D&D and Modern D20. I played a little Mutants and Masterminds while at college, but we didn't really like the way the system was put together. The new system looks much better, so I thought I'd give it a try here. Other things I enjoy doing are a lot of reading, mostly fantasy books, and playing video games. Favorite shows at this point are pretty much any show (as opposed to movie) played regularly on USA and Heroes. Here's to hoping fun is had by all!
  23. Hey everybody! I'm new here, so suggestions are welcome. Specifically, I want to know if Equipment is needed, as I don't really see any of those items coming in on Hero business. Thanks! Players Name: Aragon1888 Power Level: 10 (156pp) Unspent PP: 5 Characters Name: Mystic Raven (Raven) Alternate Identity: Megan Williams (Order Name: Anemone) Height: 5' 7" Weight: 150 lbs Hair: Black Eyes: Deep Purple Description: Raven is fairly slight, but lithe. She is quite pretty, though only those who see her in her alternate identity get a good enough look at her to see it. Her hair hangs down to about her chin, and she tucks it behind her ears to keep her vision clear. She dresses conservatively out of costume, but her costume is a form-fitting black leotard with sleeves that come all the way to her wrists. Over this, she wears a black velvet cloak with impressive-looking sliver runes that have no power embroidered around the rim of its deep hood. Her gaze, when she actually looks at someone with her hood down, is piercing, as if she's looking through you. She has a large tattoo of a raven across her back that she attempts to conceal at nearly all costs. She appears to be in her mid-20s (she is 24). History: Megan was orphaned before she could have any memory of her parents. She was left with nothing then, not even a name. Being so young, she was placed with a family in an adoption. Unfortunately for Megan (the name they gave her), her father was quite abusive, taking out his frustrations at not being able to have a child of his own on his adoptive daughter. It was just after she turned 10 that everything changed. Her father was putting her through a particularly savage beating for having spilled something on the carpet when her innate power awakened in her anger. A great wave of force burst out away from her and sent her father through the wall. Unbeknownst to her, the Order of the Mystic Raven knew why she was an orphan. It was for this reason that they had a member watching her at all times. When her power activated, the monk watching her, Dunstan, swept in while her father was unconscious and explained who he was. Megan went with him willingly, simply wanting to get away. Thus began her time at the secret headquarters of the Order of the Mystic Raven. She was soon given the name Anemone. This was because her natural power was much like a strong wind. She was also very prickly in personality, like an anemone with its spines. Her monastic training was rigorous, believing, as most do, in the training of mind, body, and spirit. That spirit training comes in the order of magical ability training. Their philosophy is that while all should exist in harmony, conflict perpetually exists; as such, one must possess the skills and power it takes to turn that conflict into harmony. Part of this is combat training, to be used against those cannot be reasoned with. This, Anemone excelled at. The other part was to learn to use language to solve conflicts. This side of things Anemone was not interested in at all, except in the part involving reading people. She saw how well words worked with her father. And she simply couldn’t empathize with other people. Her early years had left her quite damaged. Dunstan was the only one who could get her to open up at all. In fact, she was really coming out of her shell due to Dunstan’s influence. He was the only one she could trust, as he carried her out of Hell. The Order was even considering retrying her “social†training when Dunstan was killed on a mission for the Order. Anemone retreated back into her shell deeper than ever. It seemed she would lose anyone who ever cared about her. It will probably take quite a bit of coaxing to bring her out of that shell. The Order was unsure what to do with a monk who had not finished training but who was unreceptive to anything they had left to teach. Fortunately for them, an opportunity presented itself when a clairvoyant of the Order sensed that a disaster, of unknown origin and at an unknown time, would strike Freedom City and that a monk, skilled in combat, would be needed to stop it. So they decided to send Anemone to the far-off Freedom City on her Final Test, cut off from the Order, to watch and wait and avert the disaster, whenever it may try and strike. Her codename? Mystic Raven. She arrived in Freedom City only a short time ago but has learned much. She feels she will be here for a very long time. She now knows she cannot exist as Mystic Raven, or Raven, as she prefers to use in case anyone knows about the Order, at all times and has assumed the identity Megan Williams as a tribute to the adoptive mother that did her best for her. No one outside the Order could know her Order name. She learned she had to find a way to live here and so hopes to use her talents to find a job as a translator. And she learned she needed a flashier costume than the loose black sleeveless top and the black pants held up by a white belt those of her status always wore at the monastery. She has also learned the value of being mysterious, especially for one as aloof as her. As such, she has adopted a black, form-fitting leotard with a dark velvet cloak with a deep hood over it. The hood is rimmed in impressive-looking sliver runes that are just that. She typically keeps the hood drawn up. And so she waits in Freedom City, bringing harmony where she can and waiting for the signs of the disaster she is there to prevent… Complications: Secret: Order fo the Mystic Raven and True Identity. Raven has learned she must protect her alternate identity if she is to complete her mission. Also, the Order of the Mystic Raven is not well-known, and they want to keep it that way. She must be careful to protect this secret as well. The tattoo is part of this. Temper Raven will not abide torture of or violence against the truly helpless (those without powers). This is true of most heroes, of course, but Raven files into a rage of one such person or a small group is singled out specifically for such treatment by one with powers. It is also helpful if someone tries to interrupt one of her spells. The Acrobatics comes from her physical training, the others from her mental training. Feats: 12pp Ambidexterity Assessment Dodge Focus 4 Equipment 1 (laptop, cell phone, camera, flashlight, GPS receiver) Evasion 2 Quick Change Uncanny Dodge 2 (sight, hearing) These all come out of the physical and mental training of a monk of the Order of the Black Raven except Equipment, which is for maintenance of Raven's Alternate Identity. Powers: 60pp Magic 12 (Discipline of the Mystic Raven; PFs: 7 Alternate Powers) [31] Main Power: Blast 10 (Cry of the Raven; PF: Affects Insubstantial 2) AP: Blast 8 (Fireball; Extra: Explosion) AP: Concealment 10 (all senses, Cloak of the Raven) AP: Dazzle 10 (Dark light blinds targets, Curse of the Raven; PFs: Reversible, Split Attack 1) AP: ESP 6 (full-sensory, Raven Omniscience) AP: ESP 12 (one sense type [mental]) and Super-Senses 12 (Accurate, Counters Concealment, Extended, Penetrates Concealment, Ranged, Rapid, Detect Magic [mental]) AP: Move Object 12 (Strength of the Raven) AP: Teleport 8 (Fly Through the Night; Extra: Accurate) AP: Comprehend Languages 6 (Speak, understand, read, and write all languages; Tongue of the Raven; PF: Subtle 2; Duration: Sustained) Her special combat training comes in with the use of both single target and area effect spells, as well as the Dazzle effect. The Concealment effects are things she learned mostly on her own to stay hidden when she did not want attention. The other spells are standard for the Order. Force Field 8 (Body of the Raven, Extra: Impervious) [16] Each monk of the Order has an effect called Body of the Raven; it is different for each monk. Each monk was brought in because they had innate magical power. This part of the raven tattoo is limned with special inks and runes to give shaping and control to the monk's natural ability. In Raven's case, this takes the form of a force field. Flight 3 (Wings of the Raven) [6] Each monk also has Wings of the Raven, but this is identical on each. Special inks and runes are again limned into the raven tattoo, this time in its wings. These somehow use the monk's natural ability to allow for, at the very least, levitation during meditation. Raven's natural force power allowed for development slightly beyond that so she can use Flight to get around some, though she uses Fly Through the Night for long distances. Strike 6 (Harmonybringer) [6] These are simply unarmed strikes. Monks of the Order of the Mystic Raven are taught to strike precisely and with power as part of their physical training. Drawbacks: 3pp Power Loss (Magic): Raven must be able to speak and gesture to cast her spells. [-1] Power Loss (Flight): Raven must be able to speak and gesture to invoke her flight. [-1] Reduced Load (Flight): Raven is not strong to begin with, and since everyone in the Order is expected to have the ability to fly, or at least levitate, carrying capacity while flying is not a major concern. Thus, the ability to carry up to a heavy load was sacrificed for speed. [-1] DC Block: ATTACKS: SAVE DC: DAMAGE TYPE: Strike 6 --- 21/Toughness --- Bruise (Staged) Blast 10 --- 25/Toughness --- Bruise (Staged) Blast 8 --- 23/Toughness --- Bruise (Staged) Dazzle 10 --- 20/Fortitude --- Blindness Costs: Abilities (22) + Combat (32) + Saves (15) + Skills (13) + Feats (12) + Powers (60) - Drawbacks (3) = 151 / 156
  24. Hey everybody, I'm new here and working on my first character. What I'm looking for is a way to increase damage slightly on a melee attack without raising Strength. The weapon is an unarmed strike. It's really more of a flavor iseeu, I guess, but I'd like to have it. Thanks for the help.
